Oklahoma GOP Attacks Planned Parenthood by Taking Food Away From Babies

Sick, sick, sick
Wingnuts • Views: 23,900

A new front has opened up in the right wing’s deranged vendetta against Planned Parenthood.

Republicans in Oklahoma are now taking food out of the mouths of babies.

Unbelievably, something like that occurred last week in the Oklahoma House. Rep. Jason Murphey, R-Guthrie, moved to amend a senior nutrition bill so that it prohibits independent contractors from distributing federal funds for a program that feeds mothers, babies and small children.

Why would Murphey do such a thing? Because Planned Parenthood of Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma, based in Tulsa, is among the nine independent contractors that administer the federal Women, Infants and Children feeding program.

Debate over the amendment made it clear Planned Parenthood was the target, observers say. Planned Parenthood has become a favorite target of the right wing lately over the abortion issue, even though Planned Parenthood in Tulsa doesn’t perform abortions.

Proving once again that if you want a Republican to care about you, remain a fetus.

Wait, why does the post title say “Utah” when the article references Oklahoma?

Brain fart.

But there’s not much difference between Oklahoma and Utah, as far as stuff like this.

The modern GOP is about ideology, and ideology is about abstract concepts: motherhood, marriage, fertility, family. Real people do not play a role in their thinking.

I think they’ve got Pres. Johnson’s war on poverty hopelessly confused with that other one.

Is it better that some guilty should escape lest any innocent be harmed, or better that some innocents be harmed lest any guilty escape?

More and more I come to believe that is the core question. How you answer it determines where you stand in the modern American political arena.

I’m confused. The article linked to mentions Oklahoma, not Utah.

Not that I wouldn’t put it past some of the right-wing nuts here in Utah to do it. As a Utahn, I am rarely surprised by some of the nutty things our legislature does in the name of “conservatism”

Obviously, if the women couldn’t feed the babies on their own, they shouldn’t have been following God’s Plan to begin with.

Wait a sec…

IN Gov. Mitch Daniels is put on the spot after GOP legislature moves to defund Planned Parenthood.

Indiana’s GOP-led legislature this week passed a bill to make Indiana’s abortion restrictions among the strictest in the nation while also eliminating most government funding for Planned Parenthood. Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels, a potential 2012 contender, said this morning that he hasn’t decided yet whether or not to sign it into law, the Indianapolis Star reports.

Daniels, who has positioned himself as a fiscal conservative focused on the deficit, created some controversy in 2010 when he called for a “truce” within the Republican party over social issues such as abortion. Whether the governor decides to embrace this conservative bill could signal if he’s attempting to get back in the good graces of social conservatives and make a serious bid for the White House.

Daniels has said he would announce whether he was running for president after the Indiana legislative session. The session ends tomorrow, but the governor told the Star he has yet to make up his mind, so he “absolutely” won’t be making any announcement this weekend.

The bill that’s now heading to Daniels’ desk would eliminate $2 million in federal funding that Planned Parenthood receives, funneled through the state (the legislature has no control over an additional $1 million Planned Parenthood in Indiana receives from the federal government). About $1.3 million of that money comes from Medicaid funds allocated for family planning.

No other state bans the use of Medicaid at Planned Parenthood clinics — in fact, federal law say states cannot pick and choose which health providers receive those Medicaid funds. The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration has expressed concern that if the bill passes, it could lose all of its $4 million in Medicaid family-planning funds, the Indianapolis Star reports, since the bill violates that rule.

Daniels, who has positioned himself as a fiscal conservative focused on the deficit….

Daniels is full of crap. How is encouraging people to create more unwanted children (via closing PP) qualify as being “financially conservative”? Won’t the resulting increase in primarily low-income children increase the welfare roles and eventually the crime rate? How is that work to save money for the taxpayers?

Did I mention that I think Daniels is full of crap?

“better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer”. Not the GOP philosophy, unfortunately. They are more along the lines of “kill them all, let the Devil sort it out”.

To the GOP and Christian™ America, it’s a lot more fun to plead for donations and food for other countries, where missionaries distribute food, services, and convert the unwashed.

Actually feeding needy mothers and children here, without the fanfare, opportunity to convert, or earning a merit badge… well that just sucks major dick in comparison.

This is how fucking counterfeit they are. No, they absolutely do not care.

IN Gov. Mitch Daniels is put on the spot after GOP legislature moves to defund Planned Parenthood.

This bill also defines life as beginning at conception, and narrows the timeframe in which a woman can have an abortion to 20 weeks. For this as well as the Planned Parenthood issue, the bill is going to have wide ramifications and could include lawsuits, which Daniels would have to back. He’s in a really nasty position.

The vote passed in the legislature by a very wide margin. It was Mike Pence who pushed for it. He, I gather, intends to run for governor as a more true Republican than Daniels.
