Pamela Geller: A Military Coup Forced Obama to Act

Harpy goes berserk
Wingnuts • Views: 38,648

DERPAccording to Pamela “Shrieking Harpy” Geller, President Obama only acted against Osama bin Laden because there was a military coup.

Yes, she really did write that: SKULKING TOWARDS BIN LADEN: OBAMA OVERRIDDEN BY MILITARY AND INTEL OFFICIALS IN TAKEOUT OF OBL????!!

Featuring this doozy of a crazed run-on sentence:

It is the height of hypocrisy and crass opportunism to draw out the release of the death photos so as to prolong the news cycle on the story and neglect the tornado ravaged parts of the country to instead campaign at Ground Zero on Thursday for an “O-victory lap” when it appears Obama had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the OBL operation.

I wouldn’t have thought it possible, but Geller has outdone herself with this idiotic post. She actually thinks the military “overrode” the President.

There’s a word for this sort of thing: “treason.” But in Geller’s fractured fantasy world, she hates President Obama far more than she ever hated Osama bin Laden, so she doesn’t even blink at the outrageous illogic.

Her source for this ridiculous rant? A site called “NewsFlavor” (it has the flavor of news without all those fattening facts), featuring unprofessional “articles” written by anonymous Internet non-entities. This article is credited only to “Ulsterman.”

Stay tuned, because the killing of Osama bin Laden has motivated Geller to plumb new depths of bad craziness. I have a feeling she’s just getting warmed up.

Stunning jackassery no longer is stunning. Conspiracy mongers can anonymously post their rants and get picked up as "news" - spread to many more, and repeated as truth. Geller is knowingly spreading this crap as fact - and does a grave disservice to the men and women in uniform, claiming that they somehow engaged in treason. That's breathtaking in her illogic and venomous hatred of Obama.

This calls for the dreaded triple *facepalm*

As I suggested, perhaps we need to submit a story to Newsflavor about accusing the military of high treason by over ruling the POTUS as Pam suggests.

I disagree. It should be on the front page precisely because of what the message is, and who's spreading it.

Geller has been a darling on the right wing circuit for some time now, and she's now spreading a patently bogus story about Obama for no other reason than she hates Obama. This is the kind of thing that should shred what little credibility she has remaining on this or any other issue that she opines about.

Expose this to the disinfectant of light. Ridicule her for clearly picking up a bogus news source and holding it up as truth.

Then ridicule her some more.

I doubt she gets what she is saying, and the scope of it, really.

"As Glenn Beck says, look at what the other hand is doing. The raid was designed to distract from Donald Trump's expected announcement that his Hawaiian investigators have learned that most probably Obama played a key roll in the death of Vince Foster. Fresh from their birth certificate triumph, Trump's team will now be helping O.J. Simpson find "the real killers.""

I really think that somebody should do a serious study on how come we have more and more knowledge available to us at literally the touch of a few buttons, and some people still keep reverting to cave-man ignorance even with this available wealth.

Case and point: a few older people I know RL email me stuff all the time about things that are clearly debunked on Snopes and Factcheck. The emails are outlandish beyond belief and so easily verified to be false, but they don't check them at all; they simply forward and tell others how real it must be.

I don't know why, even after I point out to them time and time again the truth behind these stupid stories and show them where they can always check at a moment's notice, but my advice never appears to register. They are so set in their ways that I suppose they don't want to ever verify their philosophy with the truth of things.

There must be some sort of sociological study on this phenomenon with the internet, or perhaps even some sort of societal movement which can be started to counter it because I'm getting quite tired of it.

But in Gellers world Obama is a muslim sympathizer and usurper who is the ultimate expression of a plot more than 40 years old to get a muslim terrorist supporter elected in order to destroy the U.S. from within.

Of course she questions Obama sending troops after Osama with a kill order, it totally contradicts everything that she believes in.

The rather clear fact that she is clinically insane on this point has never been on display more clearly than it is now with her posting. ODS does not even begin to cover it, the woman has slipped into rabid pathology. :(

84 mp11  Tue, May 3, 2011 11:41:41am

Pamela Geller is not crazy as much as she, like Robert Spencer, understands that her readers/fans are unhinged, ignorant hatemongers with the attention span of three year olds who will believe anything confirming their pre-existing prejudices.

In a way, it had to be a military coup since the sekrit muslim president would never willingly kill a fellow jihadist. It was simply too much for the hatemongers to handle and Pam knew it.

It was either a 1. military coup or 2. A sekrit Muslim meeting was held in Kenya between OBL and HUSSEIN obama where the former agreed to sacrifice himself so that the latter can convince the naive americans that he's not a Sekrit Muslim in league with the global jihad (super taqqiya)

I really think that somebody should do a serious study on how come we have more and more knowledge available to us at literally the touch of a few buttons, and some people still keep reverting to cave-man ignorance even with this available wealth.

Two words: confirmation bias. Here's a good explanation of it (albeit in a more specific context):

Climate Change and Well-Informed Denial

“People increasingly choose news sources that match their own views,” Hamilton writes. “Moreover, they tend to selectively absorb information even from this biased flow, fitting it into their pre-existing beliefs.” In other words, we’re twice biased—based on our views and information sources—and moreover, twice biased in different directions.

104 lawhawk  Tue, May 3, 2011 11:47:20am

Look - it's the military's job to come up with missions in conjunction with the intel services to obtain the targeting data. It's up to them to convince the president that this is a worthwhile mission and that they have solid intel to risk a mission into the heart of a nominal US ally.

That's how it's often done. An overall goal is set. The President tells subordinates to provide him with various options. They're discussed at PDBs. They argue and weigh the risks/rewards of a course of action. Ultimately, the President has to be convinced that a certain course of action is warranted and should be taken. Here, the President made the call to initiate the Panetta team to carry out the planning for the mission, and then to carry it out. That isn't grounds for a coup - that's how the chain of command works.

Geller takes the kernel of how the chain of command works and throws it into pretzel logic to claim that the military would engage in some kind of coup unless Obama acted here. That's just flat out insane.

George W. Bush released this statement earlier tonight:

Earlier this evening, President Obama called to inform me that American forces killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of the al Qaeda network that attacked America on September 11, 2001. I congratulated him and the men and women of our military and intelligence communities who devoted their lives to this mission. They have our everlasting gratitude. This momentous achievement marks a victory for America, for people who seek peace around the world, and for all those who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001. The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done.

re: #98 publicityStunted

Two words: confirmation bias. Here's a good explanation of it (albeit in a more specific context):

Climate Change and Well-Informed Denial

I'd say yes I agree except that I've changed my views on lots of things - even since I first showed up here. Like Charles, I too voted for McCain and distrusted Obama at first, and also was somewhat of a climate change skeptic. However, like Charles, I completely changed my mind in many ways and admitted where I was wrong or misinformed after looking into things.

BTW, before anyone says that it just means that I've been "following Charles", it doesn't. I actually am more in line with Sam Harris and Hitchens on the subject of Islam (I'm very much an anti-Theist, as many here know), and I didn't want the Islamic Community Center built on principle for my atheist philosophy and my general revulsion of what religion is currently doing to the world. However, I did write many times here that given the people leading the charge against it being built, and given the fact that it is legal to build it, I would not oppose it.

I don't always see eye to eye with some here, but I do try to comment about why it is, and I am open to many arguments. Again, I have changed my mind even while here during the last few years, and I am glad to have done so. So maybe you can throw me in the "doesn't filter like others" category or something, because that phenomenon definitely does not apply to me. At least, I think that I've given enough evidence since I've been commenting here that I have been open to change, and have changed based on more legitimate and truthful information. =)

re: #100 HappyWarrior

GWB was quite gracious in his remarks - and that should have been the tone from the right wing. But it isn't. They've gone unhinged - where politics and a personal dislike for Obama overrides logic, reasoning, and satisfaction that a goal of the USA for the better part of the past 15 years has been carried out (to get OBL).

Under Clinton, the US tried to get him in cruise missile strikes. We missed.
Under Bush, the US tried to get him at Tora Bora. We missed.
Under Obama, the US got him in Abbotabad, Pakistan. Third time was the charm.

It took the right set of circumstances to make this raid successful. By claiming these kinds of conspiracies and nonsense, Geller and her ilk are smearing the men and women of the US military who planned the mission and who risk their lives so that Geller and the rest of us can stay safe.

Bin Laden Death Sparks Online Scams, AG Warns
Malware, Viruses Abound; Be Careful Where You Click

SALEM,. Ore. -- The death of Osama bin Laden is undeniably one of the biggest stories of the last decade. Attorney General John Kroger, however, warned Oregonians Tuesday to be careful when searching the Internet for footage or news about bin Laden’s death.

As seen with the Japan earthquake and tsunami, cybercriminals exploit top stories by creating fake videos, photos, Google ads, and news reports that contain malware and viruses.

Already, some highly trafficked blogs have been infiltrated by cybercriminals. For instance, a man who lived near bin Laden’s compound inadvertently “tweeted” the raid. People flocked to his website to read his account of events. Unfortunately, so did cyberthieves and his blog was compromised. Those who visited his site are likely to have unknowingly downloaded viruses or malware onto their computers.

Read it...

It was reported that Obama feared collateral damage despite being assured that the walls of the complex were high enough that no civilians would be killed. Instead he risked losing Americans in a mano-a-mano raid."

and I had to laugh. Because after all, 10 ft high walls would clearly stop collateral damage from 32 bombs dropped from many thousands of feet by Stealth bombers - even assuming that a bomb dropped from a couple of miles up in the sky would never miss.

Since that was so silly, I just had to wonder, why would anyone ever believe this person? It almost makes me question the validity of evolution.

Case and point: a few older people I know RL email me stuff all the time about things that are clearly debunked on Snopes and Factcheck. The emails are outlandish beyond belief and so easily verified to be false, but they don't check them at all; they simply forward and tell others how real it must be.

Myths are as old as time itself. Urban myths are just an update, and internet myths are Urban myths on steroids.

South Carolina presidential debate still on, with or without candidates

The first debate of the 2012 Republican presidential primary contest appears set to go forward Thursday – even if there is just one major candidate on stage.

Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty is the only top-tier candidate expected to participate in the forum at the Peace Center in Greenville, S.C.

Fox News, which is producing the debate with the South Carolina Republican Party, said the other anticipated participants are former Sen. Rick Santorum, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, restaurant executive Herman Cain and former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson.

it's helpful not to even think of people like Geller as political, they're more like pranksters, they're just personalities who will do anything for attention. Her "art" is this madness she spews.

If you think of it terms of "art", it becomes easier to take. Like any maniac performance artist who has himself crucified atop a VW beetle (anyone? anyone?)

the Veyron is both - the fastest and most expensive production car on the planet. Top speed 253. It will finish off its gas tank in about the time it takes me to write my average blog post. Its so blazing fast that there's really no place that you can officially test its top end speed.

Growing up, I had a thing for the Porsche 911 Carerra. Then along came the Dodge Viper and Plymouth Prowler - gorgeous cars the lot of 'em, and the Viper had bark with that bite. The Prowler was a looker, but it was underpowered to be charitable.

Wouldn't want to own any of 'em though. I've got my Corolla and Accord, and that's fine by me. Replacements would probably be a Subaru Outback, something by Mazda or a Honda. Nothing flashy really - just want something dependable and gets me where I need to go and gets to highway speed in a proficient manner.

On second thought, that Veyron does fit the bill. /

Gee, what a surprise...

Sarah Palin had a Katie Couric moment over the weekend during the White House Correspondents Dinner festivities.

At the MSNBC after party, NBC's blog NBCU Direct asked several party attendees the following question: Who do you think is the most influential journalist today?

But while most of the attendees had no problem coming up with answers (Eliot Spitzer said Brian Williams, as did Andrea Mitchell, while SNL's Bill Hader went for The New Yorker's David Grann), Palin fumbled when asked.

"Oh my goodness, that's a great question," she said, before turning to her husband Todd and asking for his input.

When Todd also balked, Palin came back and said, "Um, gosh, that's a great question, I have to think about it, OK? Because there are many."

As Palin walked away from the camera, she ran into her Fox News pal Greta Van Susteren, and then turned back to the NBC cameras to shout, "Greta Van Susteren is the most influential journalist!"

I've been wondering about this.....

Pakistan has bin Laden wife, children in custody

A senior Pakistani intelligence official said one of Osama bin Laden's daughters had seen her father being shot dead by U.S. forces, and was one of about 10 relatives of the al Qaeda leader in custody pending interrogation.

The relatives -- one of bin Laden's wives and up to eight children -- will be interrogated and then probably turned over to their countries of origin, and not the United States, in accordance with Pakistani law, he said.

The official said the wife and children were left behind after an American transport helicopter, possibly an MH-60 Sea Hawk, was abandoned because of mechanical problems.

He said there was not enough room for the group on the other helicopters, which were transporting bin Laden's body, other male captives and the commandos.

The wives and kids probably don't have much intel value but we did pick up some prisoners.

For the past several weeks, a writer who goes only by "Ulsterman" has produced a series of interviews with a nameless "White House Insider," who he claims has close access to the inner workings of the Obama Administration. Since the first appearance of the "Insider" in September, "Ulsterman" has published more than a dozen supposed interviews with his own personal Deep Throat.

Some people have completely bought into these stories, while others have been more skeptical.

And for good reason. "Ulsterman" offers no evidence that he's an actual reporter, or that he has any legitimate contacts. The websites that he submits articles to, such as Newsflavor, are for user-submitted content, and have no editorial oversight. He is an anonymous person claiming to interview a second anonymous person. And as time has gone on, more people have begun to believe that the "Insider" is nothing but an attempt at a hoax, as the "interviews" have become increasingly conversational and unprofessional, resembling bad fiction more than actual conversations with a valued asset."

Update on how OBL's compound didn't attract much attention. They Paid very well.

The Khans were rich compared to the shopkeepers, farm laborers and Afghan refugees who live around them, which is why the neighbors called them Khan, which means lord.

They were generous too and paid 200 Rupees, double the daily wage, to laborers who worked on the construction of the house, and gave a donation towards the construction of the neighborhood mosque, said Naheed Abassi, 21, and driver and farm laborer who said he worked on the construction of the foundations.

....

When children playing in the fields let a ball fly into the compound by mistake, the owners never let them retrieve it but gave them 50 rupees to buy a new one, said one of the neighbors, a woman with a small boy on her hip. Reluctant to be quoted in the media, she gave her name as only Bibi, which translates as Miss or Mrs. Even when the children began to throw balls in on purpose to gain more money, the owners still kept paying, she said laughing.

"I'm sorry Ahmed, we can't afford to buy you a plane ticket to America, the kid next door keeps sending soccer balls into our yard."

Think how much those OBL funded soccer balls are gonna be worth now? They'll make a killing on Ebay

If that’s the case, his burial at sea might not have been within 24 hours after all. It seems to me Mr. Obamawaited until May Day, Sunday, May 1 to make his announcement to signal his communist comrades that he is still on their track to a one world government. Meanwhile he thought he’d get the birth certificate gnat off his neck before his big announcment.

Man, I really do love freepers. Its like a Joe McCarthy Mad Lib over there.

Nicol Williamson?

Correct. Also known as the actor who played Merlin in Boorman's Excalibur.

Fun Fact: Originally meant to the film version of Lord of the Rings, but the rights deal fell thru, the joust set was originally meant to be Elrond's court.

Also, in order to focus more on the story, Boorman chose relatively unknown actors to play key roles, picking actors like Liam Neeson, Patrick Stewart, and Gabriel Bryne.

Here's an interesting piece from the Asia Times Online, dated March 25, 2011, "Bin Laden sets alarm bells ringing" by Syed Saleem Shahzad:

[Link: www.atimes.com...]

(Note: Syed is a Pakistani journalist who has well-placed sources in the Taliban and ties to Pakistani military and ISI as well.)

"ISLAMABAD - After a prolonged lull, the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has launched a series of covert operations in the rugged Hindu Kush mountains of Pakistan and Afghanistan following strong tip-offs that al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has been criss-crossing the area in the past few weeks for high-profile meetings in militant redoubts.

"Officials are said to be "stunned" by the visibility of Bin Laden's movements, and their frequency, in a matter of a few weeks in the outlawed terrain of Pakistan and Afghanistan, the most unprecedented reports about him since he evaded the US in the Tora Bora mountains in Afghanistan in 2001."

There's more in the article and it's worth reading, but remember that CIA contractor Raymond Davis, who was arrested in February, was supposedly there to track "Islamic extremists" in Eastern Pakistan. Lahore is about 200 miles SE from Abbottabad, so it raises the question of whether Davis was really part of the CIA's operation targeting/scouting bin Laden's couriers. I just find this to be very curious.
