What i've learned during this affair is the callous attitude that so many in the Pakistani gov't must have about the deaths of innocent Pakistani civilians. Willful ignorance and/or active aid of extremist a-holes like OBL is getting a lot of Pakistanis killed.

The Juan Williams 'Muslim Garb' test strikes again:
[Link: www.cnn.com...]
The incident occurred Friday on an Atlantic Southeast Airlines flight from Tennessee to North Carolina and it involved Masudur Rahman and Mohamed Zaghloul were wearing traditional Muslim dress, CNN affiliate WCNC reported. The two -- who hold high religious positions in the Muslim community -- were headed to North Carolina for a conference on prejudice against Muslims, or Islamaphobia. The meeting is sponsored by the North American Imams Federation.
Rahman, who is a professor at the University of Memphis, told the affiliate that the incident reminded him of the prejudice Rosa Parks faced during the civil rights movement.
[Link: www.wcnc.com...]
Rahman said he and Zaghloul were screened in the security line and again at the gate Friday before they were allowed to board their Delta Connection flight to Charlotte. After the plane started taxiing, he said the pilot announced the flight was headed back to the gate. Both men were removed from the plane, and screened again.
"We were very cooperative," he said Friday. "I say, 'It is okay.' They checked our luggage. They checked our everything."
"Every person--not only me--every person, should allow to check his luggage," Rahman said. "We are living in America. We want the security of America."
After that security check, he said a Delta employee at the gate informed him that the pilot of the flight would not allow him on board. He says the employees in the airport were very apologetic--even angry--and said they tried repeatedly to convince the pilot that he was wrong.
Rahman said he was even told that the gate agents asked the passengers if they felt uncomfortable about the two Muslim men, and reported back to the pilot that the people on board the plane were not concerned.

I think I saw a bag of pork rinds on the floor
70 | Stanghazi Sat, May 7, 2011 12:26:28pm |
Here's the breakdown of the videos released:
Video 1: A complete, unreleased message to the American people. U.S. intelligence said it was dated some time between October 9 to Nov. 5, 2010. Bin Laden is shown sitting down, dressed in a gold robe, his beard is dyed black and the background is blue. There is no audio but the official said bin Laden is giving his standard message of condemning U.S. policy and capitalism.
Video 2: Bin Laden is sitting on the floor watching a television with video of his own images playing. First you see the TV screen with a menu of channels and then he selects a channel. A video of bin Laden appears on the screen. Then the camera pans over to bin Laden sitting on the floor. He has a gray beard and a black hat on, and is wrapped in a blanket. He is holding the remote control and pointing it at the television, which is sitting on a small, simple wooden table.
Video 3: A practice video. He has a dyed black beard and a wooden background, which was described as armoire. The official said they have concluded that the armoire in this video is the same one that was found on the compound. There is no date on the video.
Video 4: Another practice clip. He has a brown background and is wearing a white shirt with a T-shirt underneath. There is no date on this video on this short video.
Video 5: Another practice video. He is in front of a wrinkled sheet, wearing a gold covering or robe and white shirt. He is wearing a white hat and his beard is dyed black. There is no date on this video.

Angela Merkel has been charged by a Hamburg judge with the crime of "celebrating a crime", for having remarked that she was glad we'd killed UBL.
When in Europe, you can't be too careful what you say. Anything can be a thought crime.
Is it OK to say I'm glad he didn't have central heating and plasma TV?
For the record, I never said I was glad he'd been killed. /

Looks like grandstanding judges are an international phenomenon.
The chancellor has declined to withdraw her statement, but the outcry prompted government press spokesman Steffen Seibert to defend her on Thursday. "The reason for her happiness was the thought that this man would no longer pose any danger," he said, adding that her statement had been reported out of context.Seibert added that Merkel "appreciates that those who heard only this sentence ... might have found the combination of the words 'death' and 'glad' in one phrase to be inappropriate." What I always liked about her - she was beautiful, of course - but that she always seemed to be to be comfortable in her skin, no pretensions to being anything other than what she was - a decent actress but not great, not stupid but no genius either, spouting off opinions about this or that . . .

agreed. I was surprised how short she was as she always appeared statuesque on TV and the big screen. She appeared to be 5'3" at most. But she had the most perfect features and absolutely beautiful skin. A goddess for sure ..... and as I said .... she was in her 50s by then!

Did you ever watch that show 30 Days with Morgan Spurlock? One of the episodes was a guy who became Muslim for 30 days. His biggest freak out was dealing in airports.
That was an extremely weird show. I felt for the young Muslim couple who let him do this whole bizarre thing at their house.
(Last moments of the episode, the guy turns at the door and does something with his hand. Young Muslim Husband: 'Did he just flip me off?' Young Muslim Wife: 'Dude. It was a peace sign.')

I'm hoping they offered temp jobs to all those gay translators the military let go; it'd be nice if they could get through all the material relatively quickly.
My cousin's college friend Mahmoud got offered a job by the FBI RIGHT out of college (his timing was perfect), to do translations. Mahmoud's Arabic is hardly professional quality, but he was flattered that the FBI needed his twenty-two-year-old self, so he did his best.
I hope to God we've gotten better since then.
