Update: Four Hours Later, Fox News Commenters Still Spewing Racism

Finding creative misspellings for racial slurs
Wingnuts • Views: 32,969

The controversy over rapper Common’s appearance at the White House has triggered some kind of psychotic hate reaction in the right wing’s collective id. Four hours after our first post, I went back to that Fox News article — and Fox’s audience is still ranting and spewing away, finding creative misspellings for racial slurs to get past Fox’s automatic comment filters.

There are almost 3500 comments in the thread now. These are from the first page:

What a bunch of freaks we have here in America.

None of these jokes are even funny. Most are not even really jokes. Most are just regurgitations of racial stereotypes, with no actual joke.

The ones that are actually 'jokes' are generally the most evil, too.

Like this one:

I can't find it now, but Fox's 'load more comments' system is hyperannoying, so I can't really tell. It might have gotten vanished, but the commenter himself just posted something new, so he didn't get blocked or anything.

Deleting a comment like that without banning the person who said it is pointless. You know they're just going to say shit like it over and over.

I'm sure that there's a comedy trope name for this but I can't think of the name of it.

Its when there's an angry mob/group and the person they're after asks aloud "where's the sheriff shouldn't he be doing something about this?" Cut to shot of the Sheriff in the crowd yelling "HANG HIM! HANG HIM!"

If I could wave a magic wand and have these quotes appear on billboards on these "anonymous" people's front lawns, I'd do it in a second. Just have it appear five minutes before they get home, so they don't know how long it was there or how many people may have seen it. Of course, they'd tear it down immediately, but they'd be keeping their heads low for a few days after.

It's one of the worst comment systems I've seen. They're using Disqus, which is not bad, but they've implemented it horribly. The window's always jumping all over the place, and the Ajax updates frequently just stop working. Bad code.

That's only if you look at it from the aspect of trying to make it easy to follow what is going on. If you look at it as a last desperate gasp of friend computer to spare your eyes from the horrible insanity of the comments than you'll realize it really is quite genius.

And they're only going to get more vocal as the election season ramps up.

I sure was naive to think that, after 2008, the fever pitch would subside. If anything, the racism and xenophobia will be much worse in 2012, which I never would have expected. All this despite the fact that Obama has demonstrated to the vast majority of this country that he's just as American as any of the rest of us.

But the far right extremist 10% or so of the country (the gop base) just won't let this stuff go. It's a psychological defense mechanism in which new data (like killing bin Laden) is either ignored or misinterpreted. Thus the preconception that Obama hates America can be maintained.

I grew up in TX in the 60s and 70s. I heard a lot of the same kind of stuff in these racist comments. Some people changed, but clearly many didn't.

Fox doesn't have moderators. They have a legal department that hires a bunch of interns (probably overseas) to go through the site and delete anything that shows up on their "too offensive for Fox" list (five bullet-points on a sheet of paper)...everything else is fair game - except proper spelling and grammar - those are verboten.

I'm with you, I actually thought that after the election things would calm down too. And it is worse. And I think it all ties into the fact that the president has just shown how strong and competent he is and they can't freaken stand it. It's making them crazy...they never expected it. They believed all the BS that the RW pundits spewed about him. And now they know for a fact it was wrong. He's not a pantywaist.

They believed in Bush and his policies. Now they know that Bush had torture and 7 years and still couldn't get bin Laden and it's driving them crazy. And I hope that each and every one of us rubs it in every chance we get.

My wife is not a very politically inclined person and would rather watch Survivor than Maddow, but we happened to be together watching MSNBC do a recap of the saying of Newt G. this evening.

She looked at me and said what party is he? I said Republican of course.

She said "If I think what I think about him from listening to him, and don't really know much about him, who on earth are the people who who would support him?"

Good question.

Just lit a customer up about Beck. I was playing it cool at first.

She's just sure the economy's gonna collapse, and the world's gonna end. Not even sure if she wants to do any remodeling at her home for that reason. (So, why'd you make the appointment you crazy twit!) Thinks she should start storing up food for when the famine comes.

So, I asked her, "Ma'am? If you had ten years worth of food, and people were out on the street in front of your house starving to death; what would you do?"
She asked, "What do you mean?"
I said, "Would you feed them?"
She said, "Oh. I hadn't thought of that."
I said, "Well?"
She had no answer.

Bush did shut down the search for bin Laden - in 2005. President Obama resurrected the search in 2009 (four years later), and it took him two years to find (and kill) the motherfucker. Bush had little, if anything, to do with this.

Sen. John F. Kerry caught President Bush off guard during their final debate Wednesday night, asserting that the president once said he was "not concerned" about hunting down Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

In one of the testiest moments of the evening, Bush protested, "I don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama bin Laden. That's kind of one of those exaggerations."

But during a news conference at the White House on March 13, 2002, Bush said something close to what Kerry quoted. "I truly am not that concerned about him," the president said, according to the official White House transcript.

Bush didn't want to fight terror. He wanted to grease the pockets of his big military contractor friends, and "fighting terror" was a fast-track to more funding for unnecessary spending on military crap. Well, that didn't cause a problem last time.

What problem did it cause?

Fresh off the false and politicized attack on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, today we’re hearing the know-nothings blame the subprime crisis on the Community Reinvestment Act — a 30-year-old law that was actually weakened by the Bush administration just as the worst lending wave began. This is even more ridiculous than blaming Freddie and Fannie.

...

Not surprisingly given the higher degree of supervision, loans made under the CRA program were made in a more responsible way than other subprime loans. CRA loans carried lower rates than other subprime loans and were less likely to end up securitized into the mortgage-backed securities that have caused so many losses, according to a recent study by the law firm Traiger & Hinckley

He's not loud enough to wake me up but loud enough to effect my dreams. Last night I dreamed that I was in an airport lounge with a water garden that contained iridescent croaking frogs. Almost made me late for my flight.

To be fair, the people who included Sen Inhofe know he would shoot his mouth off, and wanted it out.

No, I don't think that's true. He's on the committee for armed services. They couldn't exclude him from seeing it, nor the intelligence committee.

That the GOP lets a jackass like Inhofe sit on one of the most important committees is a sad kind of hilarious.

And the latest shot across the bow from Pakistan:

Pakistan may let China see Osama bin Laden raid's stealth helicopter wreckage

PAKISTAN has dropped strong hints that Chinese military officials will be allowed access to the remains of a US helicopter that crash-landed inside its territory during the commando raid on Osama bin Laden's compound.

The move by Pakistan's government to show China wreckage of a secret US "stealth" helicopter would be a further sign of seriously fractured relations with Washington. The US did not consult Pakistan before launching last week's commando raid.

It also offers further confirmation in the wake of the al-Qa'ida leader's killing that Pakistan is prepared to play double games by cultivating the Chinese while continuing to accept billions of dollars in US aid.

Pakistani officials said yesterday they were interested in studying the remains of the downed US helicopter, believed to be a modified H-60 Blackhawk with special technology to evade radar.

But one official told the US's ABC News that the Chinese had also shown interest. "We might let them take a look," he said.

re: #19 Obdicut

That guy has probably named himself after the Nazi tank, the King Tiger.

Kind of shows where he's coming from.

And missing the point. If I was gonna name myself after a WW2 tank, I'd be a T34. The point of a weapon system is to help win wars. The design is no good if it can't be built in sufficient numbers to tip the scales.

A King Tiger will beat a T34 nine times out of ten. So what? It's a clumsy fuel hog of a machine. It tends to break down and tends to bog down. It's slow. It's extremely expensive. It's just about as vulnerable from the air as the next machine.

It won't be where you need it when you need it. Sooner or later, it will run up against one T34 too many, and they were produced in mass.

Both machines are tanks. Both exemplify a design philosophy, and in a way, a human philosophy. The one philosophy was that God fights on the side of the big gun. The other was that quantity has a quality all its own.

But that's the Soviet side of the design philosophy. The human side of it went deeper. The T34, and later Russian designs, depended for its effectiveness upon the self-sacrificing courage of the Russian tankist. Only when crewed by such men can a pack of such machines (more accurately, what will be left of the pack after closing the range) be maneuvered into position to knock off an individually superior machine. (The Israeli-Syrian Yom Kippur war battles in the Golan served to demonstrate that such a design won't give good results with lukewarm crews.)

Both philosophies have a point. Elites do matter, and when it comes to tanks, heavy armor and big, accurate, long range guns matter. But elites, alone, are brittle constructs. The little people are, in the aggregate, likely to carry the day if they have the spirit to stick to it in a superficially unequal contest.

Glad to hear you're not in the flood water's path. On a "misery loves company" note, flood-related triage is happening in Canada as well:

The province initially said on Tuesday that 150 homes could be affected by the release, but at least one municipal official said as many as 300 houses and some of the province's most fertile farmland could be swamped.

OT:

And the latest shot across the bow from Pakistan:

Pakistan may let China see Osama bin Laden raid's stealth helicopter wreckage

Pakistan's national interests are served nicely by a U.S. that's tied down in Afghanistan, and has to rent the use of Pakistani bases and permission to bring supplies through, etc.

The Pakistanis mopped up the intel our own smash-and-go raid hadn't time to pick up. They might have been friendly and given us copies right away. But no. One has to figure that they're playing a three-sided game: cozy up to China, prop up the Taliban, and cooperate with us just enough that we'll keep paying the rent.

It's a dangerous game, long term. China is on a long march down the road of economic development. Having figured out that power grows out of the barrel of a factory, they're hard at work working. This is admirable, but it does make them powerful, and such power can eventually be used to non-commercial ends. A China that can dominate India can dominate Pakistan en passant. A Pakistani policy of undermining India is a policy that looks just one move ahead. Pakistan and India have a long common history, extensive blood ties, etc. There is nothing in China's history or culture that would serve to induce China to be any nicer to Pakistan than it has to be.

It appears that having the arch-fiend bin Laden run to ground and liquidated on Obama's watch has finally driven the wingnuts to raving, frothing, injure- themselves-rolling-on-the-floor insanity.
It isn't what he does wrong that enrages them, it is what he does right.

All he has to do is speak, and all Mrs. Obama has to do is appear in public. Their seething hatred and over the top personal attacks discredit them, as the "Chimpy" crap the left slung at Bush discredited them. I've disagreed with both men politically, but have always been disgusted by the behavior of the lunatic fringe. The racism of the ODS crowd makes them even more repulsive than the International ANSWER folks, and that's an accomplishment.

He's smart. But there's more to dislike than just his support of creationism. Time to take away their aid. All of it. Give it to humanitarian improvement in Bangladesh. They are inoffensive, coopertive, and most importantlyneed it!

It's complicated. At both ends. With regard to Pakistan, it's not a gift. It's rent. We buy permission to transit Pakistan. So long as national policy is to persevere in Afghanistan, there is no alternative. Unless you think Obama is the reincarnation of Boosh, and not legitimately president any more than Booosh was, well, national policy is to carry on in Afghanistan. Sooner or later we'll either win or give up. Winning is better than losing and it's not clear yet that the price is unbearable or that the prize is worthless.

As to Bangladesh, it's better if we can set in motion trends that will make Bangladesh more capable of earning its own way. There are already trends like that. Bangladesh is a major producer of basic cotton clothing. If you don't dress upscale, you probably have seen this already.

Another thing we might do is to stop pushing on trends that undercut Bangladesh. Literally: rising seas due to AGW are on track to flood out ten, twenty, fifty percent of Bangladesh over the next century or so.

Now the people of Bangladesh are good folk, on the whole. But there isn't a good folk so sweet that they will just meekly accept to all be drowned. Their troubles will then be ours too, and just when we'll be having extra troubles of our own.

It's almost never possible to lay any one event at the door of AGW, but ...
maybe a foretaste?

I guess my point is that we leave Afghanistan. Pakistan is getting our money, while supporting the Taliban who bleeding us dry. We cut off aid to Pakistan and leave Afghanistan. Without Pakistan's cooperation, it will be impossible to get permanent gains in the country. Leave, and let Pakistan deal with their mess. With any luck, it'll backfire in their face. Besides, there are nations (Muslim ones too) that are FAR more deserving of aid.

I've told this joke here before, but now seems like a good time to recycle.

An elderly couple were going on a road trip to their youngest daughter graduate from college, and decided to visit their oldest son along the way and stay the night.

While getting set up in the guest room, the elderly father noticed a bottle of little blue pills in the medicine cabinet and asked his son "Are these what I think they are"?

His son replied "Yeah, dad. I'm not exactly a spring chicken anymore either, ya know".

His dad said "Ha! I know son, it's no big deal. I was just wondering if these things actually worked".

The son said "Yes, they do, but they're really expensive, so don't go getting any ideas".

They left the conversation at that, had a great visit, and after the elderly couple left in the morning, their son went into the guest room to clean up and change the linen.

On the night stand was $110 with a note, "This is for the pill".

Well, the son called his dad up and said "I know I told you those pills were expensive, but they're not that expensive. You didn't have to leave me $110".

His father replied "I didn't. The $10 is from me, the $100 is from your mom".

He got two of them, being one of the first to score a victory over a jet-powered fighter. The Me-262 was a marvel, so long as it was in the air, knocking out bombers. When it was taking off, landing, or waiting on fuel, it was just another example of how the Nazis wasted perfectly good resources on various "wonder weapons" towards war's end.

Sinéad O'Connor and George Bush may not quite be political allies, but they do seem to be on the same side of one hot issue: N.W.A. (Niggas With Attitude), the controversial L.A. rappers who made headlines with their song ''F--- Tha Police.'' O'Connor, an ardent hip-hop fan, was scheduled to make a cameo appearance on the band's forthcoming album, Niggaz 4 Life, but conflicting work schedules got in the way. Meanwhile, the band's entrepreneurial leader, Eazy-E (above, a.k.a. Eric Wright, 23), jetted off to D.C. for — of all things — a ''Salute to the Commander in Chief'' luncheon in Washington on March 18. The National Republican Senatorial Committee sponsored the fete, which featured a speech by President Bush and drew 1,400 Republicans. Wright wore a black leather suit to the event. Why was the rapper and self-proclaimed former drug dealer invited? Apparently his donations to various L.A. charities earned him an invitation to join the fund-raising Republican Senatorial Inner Circle. And Wright's spokesman says the rapper ''really loves the President. He thinks he's a great humanitarian and that he did a great job with Desert Storm.'' Senators Phil Gramm (R-Texas) and Robert Dole (R-Kansas), who'd asked Wright to attend the banquet, had no comment.

I was watching TV about "Raising The Debt Limit"

Seems to me most people think this means spending more.

I thought I would try a thought experiment.

I rent you a house for $1100 per month. You have been an exceptionally good tenant and always paid on time, or paid the interest on any late payments on time.

One day you call before the end of the month and say "My BMW broke down. It will cost a lot of money to fix and I don't have all the rent, but I'm good for it and will pay you a fair interest on the rent I owe this month, but I can't pay all of it, but I promise I will make good on the full amount, as I always have in the past."

That's the USA version, until now.

The Republican (AKA Tea Party) version goes like this:

"My BMW broke down. It will cost a lot of money to fix and I can't pay the rent but I am negotiating with the repair shop and if they will reduce the cost of fixing it by $1100, then I will pay you the rent (otherwise tough shit, I have bigger problems than you)."

The T-34/85 was that good. The earlier models had serious problems, owning to lack of space and no loader for the main gun. Much of the improvement of Red Army medium tank formations in 1944 was due to tank commanders no longer having to load their tank's main gun. Of course, two of those Red Army tank corps were equipped with US M4 Shermans as well.

I stood on the levee at St. Charles and Carrolton Avenues, where the water was 2' below the top of the levee and looked down at the dry ground 14' below and behind me. Ships were cruising by above me, which looked even weirder when looking up at them below the levee. The Morganza Spillway was nearly lost in that flood which would have resulted in the shift of the Mississippi River from its present course into the Atchafalaya Basin.

Which would have destroyed New Orleans and Baton Rouge as port cities. The Morganza is the key to this flood for lower Louisiana. Pray that it holds.

I can deal with Easy E and Common. But if they ever let Flava Flav in then I am so done with this country...

I would disagree. Most Americans today, think debt is a way of life (hey I can't afford it, but I want it, so I'll borrow the money). If they listened to their elders, my folks were Depression kids, who paid cash for everything, except for the house, this America would be a different place.

Want it? Can you pay cash for it? No, then save up for it, is how I was raised.

Do you think Sprint knew of the dates significance, or it was an accident?

I don't think they thought much about it. Though it was the 65th Anniversary of the invasion of Normandy. June 1944 saw Operation Overlord in the West and Operation Bagration in the East. The catastrophic losses taken by the Germans in those two operations doomed Germany. Though the war in Europe still had 10 months to run, the outcome was no longer really in doubt.

This evening and tonight he had a Coast Guard CO take him up and show him how to track ships and how to fly at speeds and altitude to take pics of cargo on the ships. Sounded kinda fun, he thought so too.

Cruising the end of the boards, there was mention of some of the games he loved. I loved them too, because he could play them on the computer. I was held hostage as a loving mother playing Axis and Allies. I hate that game. Loved when his baby sister stole the little plastic pieces to stir them with bean dip (stolen from the fridge) and baked in her easy bake oven. I still smile when I recall the outraged screaming. :)

Fail on their part:

Meanwhile here is the situation in what I call "Libya's Stalingrad," Misrata.

Actually, it was the situation out east that interested me more. Whoever Gaddafi had in charge of that attack on the Rebels had all the tactical imagination of a brick. He was dumb enough to launch a frontal attack on a position the rebels had spent weeks fortifying and got his force blasted to Hell. If he had read about Rommel or Montgomery's battles, he would have known not to do that.

421 Targetpractice  Wed, May 11, 2011 9:26:34pm

re: #376 Naso Tang

That's because we've never defaulted, so they seem to believe all the "born again" deficit hawks who tell them that doing so won't adversely affect us. You know, the same folks who spent the last decade assuring us that "Reagan proved that deficits don't matter"?

Yup. Eerie. Every spring, I would wander down to the river bend, eat breakfast at the Camellia Grill (best omelets in the world) and go all zen on the spring flood. '73 was scary, but every year you could see ships (big ships!) cruising above your head. Scary, and yet comforting that year after year the city remained safe.

Katrina proved the rest of the levee/flood wall infrastructure north of the of the river was was completely inadequate.

That's because we've never defaulted, so they seem to believe all the "born again" deficit hawks who tell them that doing so won't adversely affect us. You know, the same folks who spent the last decade assuring us that "Reagan proved that deficits don't matter"?

Today we know that Reagan was a RINO, except for his meme that lower taxes mean increased revenue.

Every good Republican knows that increased revenue comes from loading costs on the back end instead of the front end.

Guess who's in front?

Apparently he had no clue it was still live. You'd think he'd have made sure, as any serious collector would, but apparently he didn't. Perhaps he thought he'd snagged a "great deal" and didn't think to make sure it was legal for him to possess it. Then again, watching any of the pawn shows on TV, you realize that some people get hold of some very dangerous shit without ever realizing just how dangerous it is. I don't think you understand the concept of debt. The fundamental is that you are a person of your word and your worth, and that you know your worth.

We would still be driving horse carriages if we could convince nobody that we had a great idea for an affordable horseless carriage, until we personally saved enough money to build an enormous factory to build them and then waited until every customer had saved enough cash to buy one with cash.

Debt is not bad. Only the inability to honor debt is bad.

I just found this comment on the Al-Jazeera Live Blog. Pay attention to the parts I bolded:

You really shouldn't try to pass on such rubbish as fact. Gaddaffi has never held an election since he views elections, according to his Green Book, as abominations. He doesn't accept representative democracy as being truly democractic.

Furthermore, It was King Idris I that united Libya. Both the Italians and British recognized him, first as the Emir of Cyrenaica in 1920. He was also invited by local representatives to become the Emir of Tripolitania in 1922. The Italian colonization of Libya in the 1920's forced him into exile in Egypt, from whence he led a guerilla war campaign against Mussolini. In WW2 Idris assisted the Allies against Rommel and the Italians, and was again accepted as King after the War. After a brief period of British military transition Libya became an independent nation. Idris insisted that he face election to be King, and was acclaimed monarch in 1951. He served until 1969, although his administrative duties were largely taken over by an appointee. While away in Turkey for medical treatment, Gaddaffi staged his coup.

O_O

Then you don't understand economics, or what has made any industrial nation.

The concept of debt is that you can convince others, who don't have your vision, to lend you the funds to make something happen to both your advantage and theirs.

Your version would achieve nothing. Everyone would finish building their home, maybe, about the time they die, there would be no stock market, no finance for large projects, no railroads, no roads except what each person could build by hand with their personal savings.

That there will be crooks, on both sides, is a no brainer. Do you think everyone would be honest if cash, or gold, was the only form of exchange?

Apparently, the Senussi family (the deposed royal family of Libya) are also descendants of Muhammad. Along with the Alaouites of Morocco and the Hashemites of Jordan.

Also, apparently one of my Jordanian friends here at OU is from a Arab Peninsula family that moved to the area when the Hejaz Railway was built in the 1880's. I would say Saudi descended, but the area her family comes from wasn't under the 2nd Saudi State.

OK, you have no mortgage, no car payments, no credit cards or anything non cash.

Even if you paid cash for your home and your car you participated in borrowing indirectly, because those products were paid for by debt on someone else.

Even if you rent your home, you are in a debt contract with a promisory note to pay according to the lease for a specified time. That is debt.

Debt is not a dirty word. Only how it is used can be dirty.

Because you're juvenile, ignorant, and love to indulge in your own brand of broad brush bigotry. Enjoy.

Then how about this re-write:

The modern conservative movement is stained with a very broad streak of racism and bigotry. That racism/bigotry is generally concealed, since most people have gotten good at saying politically correct things in public. But when those social restraints don't apply (as we see on anonymous message boards) we see that racism/bigotry bloom in all its ugliness.

Does that make every conservative a racist or bigot? Of course not. But you cannot deny the depth and breadth of the ugliness that underlies much of today's conservative movement.

But he didn't "glorify a cop-killer" at all. He wrote a poem, from the perspective of an inner city youth. And the whole point of that poem was to repudiate the cop-killers.

Assata had been convicted of a murder she couldna done
Medical evidence shown she couldna shot the gun
It's time for her to see the sun from the other side
Time for her daughter to be by her mother's side
Time for this Beautiful Woman to become soft again
Time for her to breathe, and not be told how or when
She untangled the chains and escaped the pain
How she broke out of prison I could never explain
And even to this day they try to get to her
but she's free with political asylum in Cuba.

(Cee-Lo vocals)
I'm thinkin' of Assata, yeah.
Listen to my Love, Assata, yeah.
We're molded from the same mud, Assata.
We share the same Blood, Assata, yeah.

May God bless your Soul.
