Fox News Commenters Cheer for Serbian War Criminal

‘Why is he considered a butcher?’
Wingnuts • Views: 50,494

Once again, we see the Fox News audience letting their bigotry and hatred hang out in public. Half the comments in Fox’s article about the arrest of Ratko Mladic are hidden from view, but new ones are appearing faster than the administrators can hide them.

These are from the first page of comments:

WOW!! Friday afternoon and a whole 37 minutes before Discuss nailed me! My Pa, he always told me: Son, never ever apologise for anything. Huh?? Certainly sounds good. Err .. Pa, but what if I am in the wrong? My Pa: Son, you are never wrong, now go and fetch me another beer from the fridge. Yup! That’s my Pa. Anyway, where was I?? Oh yes, Charlemagne. Dear Reader, Charlemagne is dear to my heart. If you are a Christian and reading this, then this evening you might care to offer up a small prayer (a tiny one) to Charlemagne. He held the fort for us. No?? Shrug. By the way, he left one of his generals in place to protect us. I think that his name is: MLADIC.

There is no comparison here. H!tler was in no way justified for murdering a people who are no threat to anyone and have been a boon to all of mankind with their brilliance and talent. This guy, on the other hand, was protecting his people from murderous satanic musl!ms bent on either converting or k!lling them.

Yeah, but it seems like with Fox you don't even have to try to find the crazy....

So when you read accounts of Mladic/Serbian atrocities like this, and wonder how humans could be so disgustingly cruel, just consider that they started out with a mindset similar to these Fox commenters.

Has Geert Wilders ever made a statement about the genocide?

I've gotta say I was really goddamn shocked when Latma unambiguously dipped into denial of the genocide.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

(often quoted as: Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it)

Reading these peoples typical comments (not just the excited ones) one has to conclude that they come from people who should have never been allowed to graduate high school and probably have an average IQ somewhere in the high 80's.

They do not know history, they do not know science, they have no clue how the financial system works, but that is not going to stop them from having strong opinions about all of the above. To put it in briefer and more succinct terms, they are idiots, sometimes willfully so.

Thank goodness we have "super-smart" people like Rush, Beck, Palin, Breitbart, etc, etc... to tell them what they should think, otherwise they would just remain sunk in their uncomprehending petulance against the world without having anyone to blame it on or having any excuse for why the feel that way. ;)

If you go buy commenters at any site, you're going to find this kind of hateful, ignorant, frat-boy intellectualist crap. Charles: To go cherry-picking at Fox News is to ignore how this goes down at every single online comment section of every single newssite, newspaper, blog, etc. I've stopped looking at the comments at the Chicago Tribune's website, they're so ignorant and bizarre.

What it says to me is that Fox need to stay on top of their likely external staff who purge comments like these: chances are, as it's Friday, those people are already checked-out for the weekend.

32 windsagio  Fri, May 27, 2011 11:29:13am

re: #23 iossarian

It's hardly increasing, its always been like that.

ALso, there's a creepily large number of otherwise reasonable Americans who really just do think the serbs were 'doing what had to be done'.

Usually the logic is 'They've been fighting each ohter for a thousand years! The only real solution is to wipe the others out! It's cold, but at least there will be peace in the region then.'

I guess it's "pragmatism". Well and a really bizarre lack of empathy.

33 elizajane  Fri, May 27, 2011 11:29:51am

If I were an American Muslim I would read these things and feel very, very uneasy about my own future in this country.

Where are the folks on the Right standing up and telling these people that they are wrong? Where are the outright condemnations, loud and clear and strong? Where are the Fox commentators speaking to their own viewers and saying, "enough already, let's calm down and stop supporting genocide?" That's what I want to hear.

While I feel you raise a good point given the internet and GIFT theory... I think that there is a way that we can objectively test if FOX comments are worse or not....

Last time I say posts of them here, it was possible to see which comments at FOX were left by moderators... would you say examining what the moderators have to say would be a better measuring stick than the random comenters?

I've stocked up on some soda for the biggest weekend of motorsports: Monaco Grand Prix at around 8 AM, then the Indianapolis 500 Mile Sweepstakes race at around 11 or so, then the longest oval race in the US, the Coca-Cola (nee World) 600. I plan on not doing a damn thing other than watching racing on Sunday!

PIMF!

I actually watched part of an "Infomercial" this week on late night TV where a twenty-something young millionaire was extolling being paid at home for advertising. You pay him money and he provides a base website address and all the spambots you need to glut facebook, twitter, news sites, etc, with spam messages for various products...

With a guy like this signing up thousands of morons who know nothing and care even less about netiquette, it can only possibly get worse. Seriously people are being promised income in the tens of thousands per month for just becoming his willing site spammers.

Gahhh!

Find out where the spammer lives and sign him up for every catalog and missionary tract you can find.

So did I mention that I have a page up about two peer reviewed papers that claim that conservatives are brain damaged?

Peer reviewed cognitive science studies find deficiencies hardwired in conservative brains.

[Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]

disclaimer: This is meant to be a fun post. The possible flaws with the papers I list are real problems. Don't let my enjoyment of a bit of snark fool you. I am not strongly positing this scientifically as a general result I accept or arguing that you should take it seriously without a very large grain of salt.

That said:

According to these two studies:

1. Conservatives have larger fear centers.
2. Conservatives have lesser developed centers associated with courage and optimism.
3. Conservatives lack a receptor associated with being able to process novel ideas. Also those who might have been liberal needed active social lives to activate a certain gene for certain neuro-receptors - so some fair number of conservatives wouldn't be that way if only they had gotten laid a little when they were younger.

It's a big tourist weekend in small town New Mexico. Lots of people who know nothing about bikes like to wander around bike shops because they had a bike as a kid and they get all nostalgic. Sometimes I have very pleasant interactions, but sometimes I get annoyed. Today I've had three pleasants, and one trio who came in while the woman was telling the two men a story about a car accident she was in years ago, and it went on for ten minutes. I just kept working on a bike, waiting for the story to end. Finally I greeted them and offered to answer any questions. Then one of the men said, "Look at you! You really look like you know what you're doing!" I think he got an elbow from the other one and they left pretty soon after that.

Yeah, the yahoo commenters are actually some of the worst (excepting within a few of their content subsections). I can still remember how awful the top rated comments were for a story on minority birth rates (over a thousand thumbs up on some of them).

Thanks. It was an interesting find. The 1919 I500 was called the Liberty Sweepstakes as it was run after WWI. I can't find when they stopped referring it as the "International 500-Mile Sweepstakes Race", but I would think not too long after 1919.

BTW, IMS' first race was a motorcycle race, so having the MotoGP racing there seems like a "coming full circle" kind of thing. I do like looking up the history of races and race circuits.

Thank goodness we have "super-smart" people like Rush, Beck, Palin, Breitbart, etc, etc... to tell them what they should think, otherwise they would just remain sunk in their uncomprehending petulance against the world without having anyone to blame it on or having any excuse for why the feel that way. ;)

This becomes the fundamental weakness of democray. It is only as strong as the polity...and a weak and poorly educated populace will destroy their own system of government through sheer ignorance and the machinations of others.

LVQ don't get me wrong, but sarcasm does not exactly seem to be your strong suit. Next time you want to post an article that is supposed to be "tongue-in-cheek" remember that your are supposed to posting from your opponents point of view while "subtly" lampooning their reasoning/conclusions.

When I first read that page I was just confused, your update(s) only made it worse actually. I didn't know if you were serious, attempting satire, making an attempt at humor or whatever else possible options might exist.

I love your science posts and have learned from them, I enjoy your genuine and contagious sense of outrage about the way Israel is portrayed currently in the media. But we really need to talk about this before you attempt humor again, cause you really suck at it. :p

Gotta love the comment about "stone age culture" when that's exactly what the right wing wants to do anyway, albeit with a different culture.

Also anybody who agrees with this arrest on the right is automatically a Muslim sympathizer or an Obama supporter (which in their eyes is even worse).
