American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer: Make Profanity and Blasphemy Illegal

Punish the blasphemers
Wingnuts • Views: 51,698

The American Family Association’s head loon, Bryan Fischer, thinks that since Ed Schultz was suspended from MSNBC for using the word “slut,” the federal government has the right to make blasphemy and profanity illegal.

Another one of those “limited government” right wingers.

Apparently nobody has told this joker that blasphemy is, in fact, a victimless crime.

4 Sol Berdinowitz  Sat, May 28, 2011 11:08:05am

And give these guys the right to define what comprises blasphemy and profanity. And the right to impose punishment. In public.

You cannot do that Mr. Fischer.

An employer can enforce standards of behavior. A country cannot. At least, our country can't.

Perhaps you should relocate to a country that meets your expectations.

8 Sol Berdinowitz  Sat, May 28, 2011 11:10:14am

An employer may impose sanctions on an employee for violating company policy. That is a big leap he is making here.

Hey wait just a second, I thought that he and his organization were violently opposed to the passage of "Hate crime and Hate speech" (which they conflate as the same thing every day), laws?

Nice hypocrisy there, they not only seem to want hate crimes made illegal but also hate speech, but only if the "crime" is against Christians.

To someone like Fischer the only legitimate kinds of authority are those of pastor over flock, husband over wife, employer over employee, and master over slave. Naturally he would see these kinds of authority as the only way to legitimize our currently godless and secular government.

Ayn Rand was too athiestic to be big with the fundamentalist crowd.

32 APox  Sat, May 28, 2011 11:26:31am

Beyond the idea of having blasphemy laws, his whole premise is complete bullshit.

People who are fined or suspended from these companies are spokespeople / representatives for MSNBC / NBA. The companies do not want to be represented as bigoted or misogynistic, thus the fines and suspensions.. There's a pretty big leap you have to take to extend that out to the idea of making whole laws governing what people aren't allowed to say.

38 watching you tiny alien kittens are  Sat, May 28, 2011 11:30:06am

Sure Bryan, because private organizations penalizing members/employees for their speech that damages the private organization is exactly the same thing as the U.S.A. suspending everyones constitutional rights and then illegally attempting to penalize them for saying that the majority of American Christians are false and that Jesus would probably take a whip to them if he were here. See: (Mark 11:15–19, 11:27–33, Matthew 21:12–17, 21:23–27 and Luke 19:45–48, 20:1–8, and John 2:13–16).

Another attack based solely on false equivalence and with no acknowledgment of how far Mr. Fischer's "ministry" has wandered from the teachings of the Bible.

Which is why they resemble the Islamists, in my opinion. Those people also believe their success came from God's blessing. More correctly they believe Islam isn't the great culture it once was because Islam wandered from Allah's way. They are trying to restore this blessing.

Yeah, that came out the other day. It's easy to understand: She found that the Nevada GOP, still smarting from losing what should have been an easy race last November to Harry Reid, made clear their desire to keep the seat that's been theirs for roughly 30 years. And Sharon, as a woman who did the impossible and made Harry Reid electable, was not who they wanted to run.

re: #95 Targetpractice, Worst of Both Worlds

Yeah, that came out the other day. It's easy to understand: She found that the Nevada GOP, still smarting from losing what should have been an easy race last November to Harry Reid, made clear their desire to keep the seat that's been theirs for roughly 30 years. And Sharon, as a woman who did the impossible and made Harry Reid electable, was not who they wanted to run.

It's a clear attempt by both party organizations to reign in their base. The state parties are making clear they intend to run party regulars, not activists. It's not subverting the election as activists may still run, just not as a Democrat or Republican.

If that's a pun and not a typo, it's a rather good one.

Hey! Hey! Take it easy on the guy. He only has our best interests at heart. Its for our own good to force us to stop spreading evil thoughts. After all, every bad thing that happens is god's wrath at out wrongdoings.

Or is it the devil's work? I can never be sure.

Wait! What if the devil...

...was god's agent all along?
