Tech Note: LGF on Facebook

We’re in the book
LGF • Views: 46,726

You may have noticed those two shiny new buttons at the top of the right sidebar. The Twitter button leads to my Twitter profile, of course, but I’m also now on Facebook, only several years after the rest of the world.

TwitterFacebook

With this post I’m testing the Facebook app I coded yesterday and today, to automatically update my Facebook wall whenever I post a new blog article. Let’s hope nothing blows up.

UPDATE at 5/29/11 2:51:54 pm

Auto-posting is working nicely, and I’ve also listed LGF in Facebook’s “Networked Blogs” application.

Sarah Palin Joins Rolling Thunder Parade Today In Washington DC

Notice the organizer trying to shoo away the press and then trying to block the reporters from interviewing Palin.

More here...

I suspect that some of them were unhappy she was there at all but she kept fucking up the parade route by stopping for interviews.

From Julian Assange: Wikileaks Founder: Facebook is the most appalling spy machine that has ever been invented

According to Assange, it doesn’t stop with Facebook. He believes the social network is joined by Google, Yahoo and other major US organisations that have “built in interfaces for US Intelligence”
[snip]

The Wikileaks founder then warns Facebook users, stating that if a user adds their friend to Facebook, they are “doing free work for US Intelligence agencies, in building this electronic database for them”.

Somewhat ironic, huh?

Are Our Politicians Stupid or Evil?

Apparently, government service seems to attract intelligent men who can’t tell the difference between right and wrong, or what is wise and what is stupid. To think that the greatest, richest, most inventive and productive nation in human history could be so suicidally mismanaged by its elected political leaders boggles the mind.

[Link: www.jonronson.com...]

From the author of The Men Who Stare at Goats, which I consider to be required reading for everyone.

You thought General Jack D. Ripper was a laughable, satirical character, because you are unaware of General Albert Stubblebine.

A proponent of psychic warfare, Stubblebine was involved in a U.S. military project to create "a breed of 'super soldier'" who would "have the ability to become invisible at will and to walk through walls". Stubblebine reportedly attempted to walk through walls himself, without success.

He is also an often-cited 9/11 Truther.

Krauthammer ties himself in rhetorical knots in order to attack Obama.

[Link: www.washingtonpost.com...]

For 21 / 2 years, the Obama administration has refused to recognize and reaffirm these assurances. Then last week in his State Department speech, President Obama definitively trashed them. He declared that the Arab-Israeli conflict should indeed be resolved along “the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps.”

Nothing new here, said Obama three days later. “By definition, it means that the parties themselves — Israelis and Palestinians — will negotiate a border that is different” from 1967.

It means nothing of the sort. “Mutually” means both parties have to agree. And if one side doesn’t? Then, by definition, you’re back to the 1967 lines.

I can't tell if Krauthammer actually believes his own bullshit here, or not. Why he's decided that 'by definition' it means the 1967 lines instead of the obvious 'then the resolution can't proceed', I have no idea.

Why he's decided that this statement only means this now that Obama has said it, rather then when Bush said it, I have no idea.

This manufactured outrage is weakening US-Israel ties. That is dangerous to Israel. I cannot for the life of me understand what these people attacking Obama are thinking.

Why isn't his firm call for the Palestinians to recognize Israel's right to exist, his callout of them as having nothing to negotiate from if they don't accept Israel's existence, being celebrated by those on the right?

Have they really just bought into their own bullshit about Obama being anti-Israel?

Why isn't his firm call for the Palestinians to recognize Israel's right to exist, his callout of them as having nothing to negotiate from if they don't accept Israel's existence, being celebrated by those on the right?

Have they really just bought into their own bullshit about Obama being anti-Israel?

If there are no mutually agree land swaps, then there is no agreement being made at all-in which case Israel holds on to the West Bank.

Krauthammer's deliberately acting as though Obama is telling the Israelis they have to give up all the land they hold except what they can negotiate for, rather than describing what will have to happen to create a border for a peaceful two-state resolution.

Krauthammer ties himself in rhetorical knots in order to attack Obama.

[Link: www.washingtonpost.com...]

I pretty much refrain from political posting. Once in awhile I'll throw something up, but I have friends and family from so many places and beliefs, it would just end in a terrible fight with people not speaking over nothing. So yea, I use it to keep in touch, share photos, etc.which I think it's great.

I used to play the games which was fun, but don't buy anything.

I got briefly excited about using it as a political tool, but frankly, I have too many different sorts of friends, and relatives and whatever--so low key.

He's also ignoring the fact that Obama told the Palestinians loud and clear not to go to the UN to try to force the issue this fall.

It would be OK by me to get that rainfall in the river, IF we could somehow move it to our yard.

Absolutely zero rain here, for weeks. Our grass isn't even growing. A yard that needs to be mowed, usually, twice a week in the summer, got mowed today for the first time in 3 weeks. We have all that water sittin' there in the river, pressing against the levee, and we have to use hoses to water our yards. Everybody's aggravated.

Dammit so much. That, along with the upcoming final(?) installments of Assassin's Creed and Bioshock are making it hard to continue refusing to buy an Xbox. Especially since the industry has made it completely clear that they don't give half a shit about PC gamers.

The upside is that I will then no longer have any use whatsoever for Windows.

not sure I condone that...grisly business, killing people, and I cannot imagine any Seal wanting to be honored for their wet work, they dodge recognition like the plague...very strange

I don't like it...it's not a thing to celebrate past a certain point...let it go and move on

What's your take on it? I picked SpaceJesus's brain about it, and he had a lot of reasonable complaints that I could identify with.

re: #198 Slumbering Behemoth

I enjoy it more than 4 I think (alhto its been a while), the combat is way more interesting and strategic.

It's a very different beast tho', actual empire management is a lot more complex/harder (freakin' net empire happiness).

re: #199 windsagio

The new combat aspect does intrigue me, but there were some other flaws that SJ touched on (which I can't recall off the top of my head right now) which convinced me to wait for the "Civ V: Epic Ballbuster Enhanced Super Mega Gold Edition With All The Expansions And A Kitchen Sink" to hit the $29.99 price point.
