Wingnuts Desperately Cling to ‘Weinergate’

Subsisting on hatred and phony outrage
Wingnuts • Views: 37,651

Wow, look at all the hate coming my way through Twitter and email this morning! What’s got those wingnuts all lathered up?

It’s the Anthony Weiner fake outrage, of course! They’re ranting and spewing talking points like a bunch of brightly colored Breitbart parrots.

The bottom line is that they really, really want this to be true, and they’ve already decided it is. And anyone who points out that Andrew Breitbart is a proven liar and fraud, many times over, comes in for the usual right wing vilification and insults.

It’s kind of cute, in a massively dysfunctional way.

I'm hoping Breitbart and Diana Loesch end up in court over this. I suspect the investigation is probably not going to go well for them.

I really hope that Weiner's legal team is as aggressive as they can be in pushing back against these creeps. Breitbart needs to find out that his actions have real consequences.

So you're saying you'ld like to see Breitbart grovel for Weiner?

Aren't there more important things to worry about? If they are going to write about this story at all, perhaps they should be telling their demented readers to stop stalking young women who read about a particular congressman on social networking sites?

They want it to be true, and they will not believe anything or any proof to the contrary. This is honestly the same sort of rabid tribal political identification and use of "the big lie" you saw in the factionalization of the Weimar Republic. The only thing we are missing now are brownshirts.

Mr. Weiner’s spokesman, Dave Arnold, said on Monday, “We’ve retained counsel to explore the proper next steps and to advise us on what civil or criminal actions should be taken. This was a prank. We are loath to treat it as more, but we are relying on professional advice.”

I hope they do vigorously pursue this incident, because it could help protect other people who use facebook and twitter. Somebody hacked my aunt's fb account and sent pornographic links to her list of friends, which include primarily family members whose ages range from 10 to 80. It was really not cool....and bizarre, becasue my aunt is in her 50s, happy, employed, stable, etc.

Just in case you don't know how to pronounce the NY congressman's name, the Washington Post gives you a helping hand...

NEW YORK — New York Rep. Anthony Weiner (WEE’-nur) has hired a lawyer to investigate what steps to take regarding a lewd photo sent from his hacked Twitter account.

26 blueraven  Tue, May 31, 2011 10:14:18am

I was watching John King/Dana Basch on CNN last night. They reported on this story...proclaiming that the conservative blogosphere was determined to prove this photo was sent by Weiner.

Never once did they mention Breitbart as the source for this story. That just seems incredible to me.

27 Bulworth  Tue, May 31, 2011 10:15:00am

Breitbart is going to feel the penetrating power of the long arm of the law, as Weiner has retained counsel on how to investigate this "prank" as he calls it.

In other words, if Breitbart was involved in the set-up (or one of his friends did it at his bequest), then he could face criminal charges...and I'm sure all IP addresses for the twitter/yfrog updates have been logged by now.

For slander? That's not criminal. And the jury's still out on whether or not there was any hacking involved, but it seems like there was just a doctored image tweeted.

He needs to report the incident to the United States Secret Service, the FBI local office, and the Internet Crime Complaint Center as a "hacking" incident (Yes I know he wasn't hacked, per se). But let them investigate the incident and determine that for themselves, at the least it is fraud and impersonation however it was done.

LOL as my mother says, you can take the man out of the mountains but can't take the mountains out of the man. Grew up fishing and re-discovered it late last year here in so-cal and Love every minute of it.

He's a self-adoring pig. And that has nothing to do with hus physical heft. He cared early on; now he makes a career of seeming to care.

re: #86 Rightwingconspirator

That's a shame, it should be illegal to do that.

Apparently, it is. But it's still not hacking. It's called being good at trivial pursuit.

if the law was broken then somebody should pay...my point is that this mickey mouse incident is indicative of how we have degenerated into a third rate freak show...this story generating all the attention it's getting is a sad state of affairs

He'll just continue to be a fat, stinky hanger-on like he's always been...trying to make a buck by injecting himself into the controversy.

Breitbart - a small, rotund piece of feces that attaches to the flesh of your ass and will not be shook loose.

"Jeff In Ohi moved his ass from side to side attempting to shake loose the brietbart stuck to his skin. He finally relented an smeared it with some toilet paper.

I'd like to know how patriotusa76 plays into this, as well. He really has a hard-on for Weiner...

I believe the term is 'fall guy.'

I find it almost impossible to believe that a guy raised politically in the swampland of New York politics could be that. fucking. stupid.

But I probably also said the same thing about Eliot Spitzer.

re: #75 imp_62

OT: Is the fact that I miss certain letters as a matter of course while tying signs of a medical problem? Or am I simply a crappy typist?

(serious answer just in case you asked seriously)
You would need a nerve conduction test to find out, it is common for suspected ALS/MS patients and used to look for other neurological impediments. Unfortunately it involves having dozens of electrodes attached to your hands and forearms and then administering tiny shocks to measure your response. It is not a very pleasant experience, I took Mom to three of them before she passed.

Lets hope that your just a crappy typist because pretty much any type of neurological disease is very bad news, and most of them cannot be treated. :(

It's a strange feeling to come back from a very nice Memorial Day weekend, when I didn't use the Internet or watch TV at all, and be shocked by the low level of our nation's political discourse. At a time when we desperately need a serious approach to our national problems, the right wing is screaming the equivalent of "I know you are but what am I".

99 Girl with a Pearl Earring  Tue, May 31, 2011 4:05:27pm

CNN interview:

"Was that picture of you?"

"Why did you hire a lawyer? Why not let law enforcement handle it?"

"Can you say if you're concerned if there's hacking going on with members of congress? That's a serious thing. Aren't you concerned if someone's looking at your sensitive information?"

"Are the Capitol Hill police already looking into it?"

"Was it hacked or was it a prank?"

"This distraction might go away if you answered some of the questions......"

"Can you tell us why you were following a 21-year-old college student [on Twitter]?"
