Palin’s ‘Gotcha’ Question: ‘What Have You Seen Today?’

Ambushed by the media again
Wingnuts • Views: 39,776

Yesterday Sarah Palin blathered that she was ambushed by the “lamestream media” and their “gotcha questions” about Paul Revere. Today David Frum has discovered the outrageous ambush question that threw Palin for such a loop:

“What have you seen so far today, and what are you going to take away from your visit?”

“Take away” implies that the media think Palin is a thief. Ergo, a “gotcha” question which flustered her to the point that she turned Revere into a British mole.

But if she supposedly got it “right” in the word-salad she offered up in response to this question, then why was it a “gotcha question”?

Hi everyone, Sarah here!

I just want to mention again that it’s so obvious that it was a Gotcha! question, wasn’t it? The lamestream media really is out to get me. They’re such a sneaky bunch of liberals, aren’t they?

You Betcha!

You know, sometimes I remember that I have to be more careful when I’m being stalked by them, kinda like the way wolves stalk me when I’m out hunting in Alass-ka and enjoy God’s white earth, because I might say stuff they think I’ll regret when it really was the truth all along, wasn’t it? That’s the way it is with them!

But, I’ll refudiate their claims every time because I really do know my American history about how these great countries started and created a modern day America under the flag and under the Bible, which is what the foundational founders always wanted.

Anyway, I am so happy that so many people agree with me and that history was even re-written to finally include the truth about how Paul Revere rode for our second amendment rights and for fighting the British which we should never forget we did or continue doing until this day! Because we all know that Kenya was a British place, don’t we?

You Betcha!

God bless and see you all soon!

Sarah.

NYT: A Warming Planet Struggles to Feed Itself

Now, the latest scientific research suggests that a previously discounted factor is helping to destabilize the food system: climate change.

Many of the failed harvests of the past decade were a consequence of weather disasters, like floods in the United States, drought in Australia and blistering heat waves in Europe and Russia. Scientists believe some, though not all, of those events were caused or worsened by human-induced global warming.

Temperatures are rising rapidly during the growing season in some of the most important agricultural countries, and a paper published several weeks ago found that this had shaved several percentage points off potential yields, adding to the price gyrations.

A scramble is on to figure out whether climate science has been too sanguine about the risks. Some researchers, analyzing computer forecasts that are used to advise governments on future crop prospects, are pointing out what they consider to be gaping holes. These include a failure to consider the effects of extreme weather, like the floods and the heat waves that are increasing as the earth warms.

A rising unease about the future of the world’s food supply came through during interviews this year with more than 50 agricultural experts working in nine countries.

These experts say that in coming decades, farmers need to withstand whatever climate shocks come their way while roughly doubling the amount of food they produce to meet rising demand. And they need to do it while reducing the considerable environmental damage caused by the business of agriculture.

Agronomists emphasize that the situation is far from hopeless. Examples are already available, from the deserts of Mexico to the rice paddies of India, to show that it may be possible to make agriculture more productive and more resilient in the face of climate change. Farmers have achieved huge gains in output in the past, and rising prices are a powerful incentive to do so again.

Conservapedia Revere page hacked to include FACTS:

conservapedia.com

(added at bottom of article)

Paul Revere rode from Boston to Lexington to warn colonial leaders that British forces had set out to arrest them. He was met there by William Dawes and Dr. Samuel Prescott, who had rode to Lexington via different routes. They then on their own, chose to ride on to Concord to, where a large store of arms and powder were hidden, to warn the residents there. They were captured by a British patrol while making their way to Concord. Their mission was to warn the colonist, not the British. Bells ringing or not there was no 2nd Amendment for Revere to protest to the British about at the time, since the Constitution had not been written. English law permitted the keeping of arms for hunting and self defense (Declaration of Rights (1689 amended version)) but with the language of “as allowed by law” embedded within, which indicated that that which Parliament giveth, Parliament can take away. The Declaration of Rights permitted the possession of arms for hunting and self defense, but did not allow the stock piling of weapons for private militias. This is what the British were marching from Boston to Concord to confiscate, not individual weapons. And maybe the bells.

I just got done reading the Apple release for iOS 5 and iCloud and I don’t think anyone expected something this good!

No more need for owning a computer to own/run an iPad! 5 Gigs free on iCloud and you don’t even get counted on your purchased apps, books, songs or photo stream, which is also new…. *wow*….

Multi-windows, gestures, tabbed browsing, notifications. I’m honestly stunned. This is a total game changer for Google and Amazon. This also brings the iPad fully into the realm of total independence from having a laptop or desktop if that is all you want.

I know this is a totally geeky thing to say and to rave about but: wow! I’m blown away (and I have an Android phone, an iPad, and a beautiful brand new MacBook Pro and use Gmail all the time so I like all systems - including Amazon of course)…. I think Apple just surprised everyone and really launched something amazing.

I’m still wary to pass judgement… Knowing the lengths that they’ve gone to make people look bad, it wouldn’t surprise me Rep. Weiner made it to the top of their lists. The photos could be doctored.

Given Brietbart’s history for complete fabrications, altering of audio and video footage, and changing of quotes to say the exact opposite of what was actually said, until a reputable third party verifies without a shadow of a doubt that these photos are as reported, or a straight admission from Weiner himself, I am firmly in the camp that Andrew Brietbart is once again lying through his ass, and is AGAIN engaging in libelous conduct.

I really dont care if Weiner took these pictures, sent them out or what. Stupid? Yes. Criminal? No

What is evident, is that some people are lining up to smear him and destroy his career.

If he did this, it was a private matter. Again, stupid.
It is not the same as Chis Lee putting them out on Craigslist. Or David Vitter consorting with prostitutes.

I am recycling this post from the downstairs thread.

Sarah seemed to do a reasonably decent job as governor of Alaska: a state with a population roughly equal to that of Louisville, KY.

Although Alaska is our largest state, nearly 65% of it is owned and managed by the federal government. Another 24% is held by the State of Alaska, another 10% by various Native American councils. Only around 1% is in private hands.

And she quit halfway through her term.

And that another reason I simply do not think she is fit to hold national office, that’s all. I will not criticize or ridicule her any more beyond that point, regardless of what she says or does at this point.

And as it turns out, any criticism beyond that plays right into her hands and into the hands of her legions of supporters.

No, no it is not the same. Clinton had a physical relationship with someone in the oval office. He was the President of the US and had an affair with an intern.

There are degrees of unacceptable behavior, and this one does not reach that level.

It certainly reaches the level of Rep. Lee’s behavior recently, which ended up costing him his own seat in Congress. If Weiner lied from the beginning, then the honorable thing to do would be to resign from office. If he wishes to maintain his innocence, then he needs to prove it by getting an investigation going on an attempt to smear the reputation of a sitting elected official.

Smearing the reputation of a sitting elected official is illegal?

Seriously, on what basis is he going to call for an investigation? Legal authorities need a body, well, a basis for assuming a crime occurred.

And let’s assume he’s told the truth. He didn’t post it, but it might be his. In other words he’s got pictures like that on his home computer. Which will make bigger headlines:
“someone put his picture on his account without his permission” or
“It’s HIS picture.”

Somehow I think it’ll be the second one that gets more airtime. In that case he’s sunk, even though it’s because someone else did something underhanded.

If he continues to contend that his account was hacked, then that’s an offense that the FBI should be looking into. If they investigate and determine that no crime has been committed, then at least we silence the biggest part of the “case” against him, namely that there’s been no investigation into this incident.

And if there are his photos that have been posted without his permission, then again, that’s something that should be under investigation. Simply saying “Yeah, it’s me, but I don’t know how they got there” isn’t going to cut it any longer.

Or Sarah can stop trying to make every statement that leaves her lips political in nature.

That’s the thing. You can certainly make Revere’s ride, Lexington, Concord, et al, a good angle for discussing gun ownership and the purpose of the Second. I’ve heard it done (in a public school classroom) by a man who knows a shitload more about the Revolution than Sarah Palin.

But you have to know what you are talking about. And she didn’t.

Luckily, for people who don’t know everything, which is most of us, there is the politician’s sidestep. They say, “What did you learn?”

Possible responses:

“Oh, we learned a bunch of stuff today! Piper, what was your favorite thing at the Paul Revere museum?”

“We learned the name of Paul Revere’s horse!” (Or similar daft detail.) “Never knew that before. Sorry guys, we’re on a vacation here, and our next stop awaits.”

“Everything we saw today just makes me so proud and grateful that these men and women of the Revolution fought so hard and sacrificed so much for us to live in a free country. It’s wonderful to think about. OK, can’t chat, we’re off to New Hampshire.”

Is there such a word as “agreeance” (agreement)? I have caught my son using it, it is not a word that he ever learned growing up, and I’m wondering if he may have picked it up as a “Southernism” (he lives in Alabama)

I have told him not to put on a fake “Southern” accent. Everybody knows he is a Yankee, and even his born-and-raised in Dixie wife does not have a Southern accent.

Dictionary.com says there is, and that it’s a synonym for ‘agreement’, but is considered obsolete. Might easily have survived in some parts of the country though. The South and New England are both good for odd bits of antiquated speech that linger on. Also, a quick Google shows someone saying it’s sometimes used in New Zealand—probably the same kind of survival.
