A rich, powerful man who cheated on his wife? I'm shocked, I tell ya!

A rep for Boehner’s office said, “This is bull[bleep]. The American people oppose Washington Democrats’ job killing, so their desperate liberal allies are resorting to outright lies. It’s low, and it’s dirty.”

Speaking of outright lies...

All this attention on Wiener could only lead to Boehner.

/trying to get out ahead to the bad jokes

Actually, I do think it's low and ridiculous. If he's having an affair, that's not our business. I'm getting sick of hearing about the sex lives of politicians. Boehner's an ass and there are plenty of other job related things he can be called to answer for.

Could it be your political orientation? (Honest question).

I feel like I remember hearing about the Boehner story when he first got the house speaker position. Probably only a matter of time now if there is any truth to it.

I do have a problem if he's innocent. If it's true, especially if he was doing a lobbyist who obtained undue influence over him via sexual favors, then I say fair game.

Why was the Enquirer the one to break the Edwards affair? Every story has to get broken by somebody. They typically don't hit everyone simultaneously, somebody has to go out and do real journalism, then everyone else reports on it.

I am too, because I think that's something that should be private. But when you're not only the Speaker of a party that proclaims itself to be the one based upon "traditional family values," but also boinking a lobbyist, then it's worth screen time. Weiner's own bit last week was only noteworthy because of his coverup, not the initial foul. He'd come clean then, it would have warranted a collective rolling of eyes and below the fold coverage for a day or two.

Just missed it.

Ah, works for me. It's way too easy to do with the Internet, since sites often have old articles looking the same as new ones and dates often being tiny and tucked away. It's a bit harder with a magazine or, especially, a newspaper. When the pages are yellow and brittle and the sports section is talking about the Whalers game last night, it's probably not breaking news.

Catholic iconography, probably because he disappears right after the Bar Mitzvah.

Given the life expectancy of the time, he could have been any age.

But he does kind of just disappear without an explanation.

This is getting weirder and weirder.

It's sounding to me like it may very well be one of those stories that's so dramatic that someone jumped the gun on it and everyone else followed without confirming it. At least, I'm kinda hoping that's the case, since the other option isn't very appealing. Also, once a "psychic" source becomes involved, I get a bit suspect.

Boy, are you gullible.

I have a really reliable Chinese fortune cookie outlet.

If that doesn't work, tea leaves worked for Harry Potter. (We will all have a big black blog in our future.)

What a blooper ...

What's sad is the amount of schadenfreude that was already take place. Cmon everybody we're better than this.

I have to ask, better than what? People in this country no longer treat even rumors of political sexcapades with any sort of skepticism. Because so often, those who have were left with egg on their faces after giving the benefit of the doubt to a class of people who've demonstrated time and again that they're not deserving of it.

I'm familiar with Plato's Republic but I've never heard of the phrase "figure ground analysis." I thought maybe it was a specific interpretation of the work.

It's a philosophical concept, dealing with perception. Google it...

That said. This is one of the reasons I hang out here. If our Host makes a mistake or reports a false story, he (Charles) owns up to it and takes the hit instead of deleting it and denying that it ever happened. I think the word I am looking for is INTEGRITY. Something certain other blogs seem to have forgotten.

Just did a little googling. Does it simply refer to the cognitive process of distinguishing objects from the background?

I've actually studied philosophy at the graduate level but perception was never my area.

Clearly Adam Baldwin has some profound issues relating to Ur of the Chaldees. Perhaps an ancient Mesopotamian city-state bullied him on the playground as a child.

As for the inverse Cave Parable. I guess it parses as Charles having entered the Cave of Liberalism and rejected the Sun--metaphor the Form of the Good, and contextually whatever Adam Baldwin's particular brand of wingnut is...possibly Ronald Reagon's gleaming radiant ass--strapping himself in and convincing himself to the Shadows on the Wall...ie any position other than his particular brand of wingnut...are Truth.

I'd like to point out that Plato's understanding of knowledge and the Form of the Good involved things like skepticism, recognizing of personal perspective as bias, and the pursuit of virtues such as equality, justice, and truth. He would likely piss on Adam Baldwin's shoes for appropriating his name and concepts to add a veneer of philosophical gravity to the whiny self-righteous pursuit of not paying taxes and morally justifying dickishness. Then his posse of Symposiasts would curbstomp the dude.

But I'm not really a Platonic scholar. I'm prefer Aristophanes, as he understood the role of a decent dick joke in communicating more profound truths.

I was just thinking that all those gloating over the Weiner incident (Cantor comes to mind since he came out asking for resignation), should make sure their sh!t don't stink because I am guessing, all politicians should have a wakeup cal regarding their online activity, and if "anonymous" or anyone else gets pissed at them, their goods will be all over the news too. I predict these sort of events will become more common and before the year is out, the news will be all day Jerry Springer sex stories (since the main stream media has no interest in anything else).
