Maddow: It’s OK If You’re a Republican

Steele disgracefully refuses to say David Vitter should resign
Politics • Views: 32,030

Last night, Rachel Maddow had an extraordinary segment about the reaction of the Republican Party’s leaders to the Anthony Weiner scandal; Michael Steele is exposed as the hackiest of partisan hacks.

UPDATE at 6/8/11 12:22:39 pm

And for some more context, here’s diaper fetishist and prostitution client David Vitter at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in 2010 — receiving a standing ovation.

Cantor's hypocrisy is also pretty damn stunning.

I love Rachel. She's going to be even better when her contract with MSNBC ends and she joins Keith on CurrentTV.

Why do people still pay attention to Michael Steele? Oh wait he's an incredible gaff machine....

Better question, why does Michael Steele still feel the need to comment about things rather than moving to a farm somewhere and just clearing brush?

"Go to your priest, minister, ragbbi or imam for moral and religious renewal and support, not your politician..."

now that makes sense

I hereby call on Weiner to resign himself to a whole lot of dick jokes.

Heh. He said 'imam'. I wonder what the lunatics will think of that.

Hypocrisy just doesn't do this kind of BS justice. There has to be a stronger word or expression out there...

Extreme douchebaggery of the highest order?

I think David Bowie might object. Oh wait, he said imam, not Iman. My bad. /

I think Jon Stewart once gave Robert Novak and award for that.

Michaels Steele did point out the one issue that will eventually tear the Tea Party away from the GOP and bring the whole edifice crashing down: that religion and morals are personal matters.

Which does not mean that they are completely private: they are reflected in our daily actions, but to drag them into politics as the GOP does is to invite disaster whenever another politician fails to live up to the standards they are trying to force on others.

Wiener has always been for more Stimulus. The erectorate has supported him firmly. Let us laugh off in inphallibility.

Palinopsia

"In some instances, cases resolve themselves after a period of time, though the length of time varies considerably and can be lifelong; in fact what little evidence there is suggests that the condition is lifelong more often than not.

Most sufferers seek to adapt to their condition by accepting it as part of normal experience. However, this adaptation is not as easy as it might seem and can take many years."

Maybe we just need to stop pretending our elected representatives should be morally superior people and accept that they're human just like the rest of us, and when they fuck around, they fuck around just like the rest of us. And when they propose some kind of social engineering law--banning gay marriage, restricting a woman's right to choose, etc.--we simply tell them to go fuck themselves(if they aren't already involved in said activity).

Power hungry people get elected to office and they do stupid shit. Whether or not Eric Cantor wants to have affairs with male staffers is irrelevant to his performance as a family values father and husband...he can do both...and he should. He just shouldn't criticize others for what they do.

(note: I don't know for a fact that Eric Cantor is having affairs with his male staffers, and I won't judge him if he is...the above example is simply meant as an illustration)

We need to elect officials who are aware that they are human like the rest of us. Ones who lead by example and not by admonition or coercion.

I have never called for anyone to resign for sexual pecadillos, and I never will. I would be more likely to think someone should resign because they're a shitty tipper.

We happen to have a President right now who is trying to do just that. And it's pissing the Republicans off in a big way.

"Gangster Government", "The Roots of Obama's Rage", "Crimes Against Liberty", "Culture of Corruption"*, etc, are some of the very "fine" books expressing conservative Obama-derangement syndrome.

*I think this book might have even been published before Obama was inaugurated, but which nonetheless was already complaining about Obama's "corruption".

How would behaving precisely the opposite of what you advocate and legislate others to do be irrelevant, particularly when advocating the opposite is so damaging to others?
