Ron Paulians Spamming Internet Polls (Again)

Crazy followers of crazy uncle go nuts with silly Internet polls
Wingnuts • Views: 23,349

During the last election, it became a running joke at LGF that Ron Paul’s odd supporters would spam and skew and vote repeatedly in every Internet poll they could find, trying to boost the Crazy Uncle’s apparent popularity.

This measure of popularity is completely bogus, of course, because it’s trivially easy to vote more than once in a silly non-scientific Internet poll; usually, all you have to do is clear your browser’s cookies and bam! you can vote as many times as you can stand clicking a button. And Paulians have a level of button-clicking persistence that dwarfs the capabilities of sane people.

Well, following Monday night’s Republican debate, the Ron Paul robot army immediately launched campaigns to spam every poll they could find, because it was so incredibly successful for them in the last go-round.

The funniest post on this subject at a Ron Paul website is here: CNN Reports Ron Paul At 0% While CNN Online Poll Shows Him At 75% « RunRonPaul.com.

Blogger Trevor Lyman was outraged — outraged, I say! — because a silly Internet poll at National Journal showed Ron Paul with zero percent of the votes:

While the online poll conducted by CNN shows Ron Paul as the clear winner with 75% of the votes, CNN reporters pull a fast one by citing a lesser known poll hosted at National Journal claiming Ron Paul came in at 0%.

CNN discards their own poll in favor of another poll that shows results more to their liking.

This is overt propaganda.

But not to worry — as soon as he posted this, Paulians sprang into action:

The National Journal poll cited by CNN now shows Ron Paul in the lead with 33% of the vote.

Voila! Ron Paul is now the clear winner!

Here’s another Paulian website that provides a list of Internet polls (mixed in with ads for quack thyroid medications and crazy rants about radiation), and hey! There’s LGF! But wait, something must have gone wrong — because the landslide winner of LGF’s poll is: Barack Obama. How did that happen?

LGF Poll

Who won tonight’s Republican Party debate?

Votes allowed: 1
Expires: never

There’s no trickery involved here; LGF’s polling code uses IP addresses instead of cookies, which makes it much more difficult for the Paulians to scam. They still managed to artificially inflate their idol’s numbers, but were prevented from driving him into the lead.

Here’s another Paulian site with a list of polls: Godlike Productions: support RON PAUL vote in the DEBATE POLLS.

This one advertises itself with the slogan, “UFOs, Conspiracy Theorists, Lunatic Fringe.” Couldn’t have said it better myself.

All Paul and his fans need now is a Constitutional Amendment mandating the presidential vote be based on Internet polling.

I hate clearing my cookies.

I like the tags in little bubbles.

LUAP NOR! You gotta hand it to his (4Chan) followers...they're persistent.

In other news, the wonderfully leaked "children's book" Go The Fuck To Sleep has been recorded as an audio book...why? ask? Samuel L. Jackson, that's why. (and it's free)

Is it wrong that I still compelled to vote Ron Paul whenever I see an online poll?

Glenn Beck on ron Paul's debate performance....

I just have a little script written with Perl::Mechanize to robovote that clears the cookies and randomizes other things between each vote. But I only use it for important things, like voting for "Who Wore It Best" on Fashion Police.

Hell, I'm tempted to put him down as a write-in whenever I see a poll. "Who would you vote for," "who belongs in the hall of fame," "who's your favorite X-Man..."

Nah, Paul has some popularity. Given how strange some of his views are, I think he's actually a pretty articulate debater. Campaigning is obviously his uber-weakness - he'll be washed out before New Hampshire, as usual.

Just out of interest, Charles, are you getting poll hits from the same block of IP addresses? I imagine the next easiest way for Paulians to spam stronger polls like yours is to use multiple computers if they were at a university or they worked in IT. Of course, I also understand that making Paulians work harder to spam would have the effect they get turned off, and they feed on easier prey instead.

In theory, you should be able to accurately predict the viewpoint of a pure Libertarian. You should be able to write a 100-line computer program that will duplicate the voting record of a "pure libertarian"

While I don't think this inflexibility is the right way to run a country, it's sometimes useful as an intellectual model to take a libertarian point of view as a starting point in drafting legislation and working from there.

That's why I despise Ron Paul. To put it bluntly, he's full of shit. For example: (from Wikipedia).

Paul has said that recognizing same-sex marriage at the federal level would be "an act of social engineering profoundly hostile to liberty."[192] Paul stated, "Americans understandably fear that if gay marriage is legalized in one state, all other states will be forced to accept such marriages."

Now, of course, his apologists would say that Ron Paul would support getting out of the Marriage Business altogether (though he's never said that himself), and that the thinks that any two people should be able to engage in any sort of contract.

If I were in Congress in 1996, I would have voted for the Defense of Marriage Act, which used Congress's constitutional authority to define what official state documents other states have to recognize under the Full Faith and Credit Clause, to ensure that no state would be forced to recognize a “same sex” marriage license issued in another state. This Congress, I was an original cosponsor of the Marriage Protection Act, HR 3313, that removes challenges to the Defense of Marriage Act from federal courts' jurisdiction. If I were a member of the Texas legislature, I would do all I could to oppose any attempt by rogue judges to impose a new definition of marriage on the people of my state.

And another point I'll make is that Paulian zombies are so dumb they blow their own cover. It didn't take mainstream media long to realize what they were doing back in 2008. if Paulians were smarter, they'd been less zealous, started out small, not rig the polls by such large margins but keep the results believable showing their candidate slowly rising. And of course, they wouldn't use spam tactics and appear like a zombie army. But as it is, they take a leaf from Arab dictators, as they both prefer preposterous 99% victories, and in doing so, they make it much easier sane person to see the lie.

Honestly, it's not even worth the time to check. Internet polls are only for fun - anyone who takes them seriously needs to find a good shrink.

Ron Paul is a joke. The Koch brothers are the real libertarian threat, because their money talks the language politicians listen to.

I voted Paul just for 2008 sentiment ;-). It was a good time then. Republican lunatics were more closeted, Code Pink was still active enough to be a running self-joke, and all the women were beautiful.

You have my sympathy -- my cat's gum disease cost about $700 (but she still has all her teeth!).

I was able to get her to tolerate having her teeth brushed every day, which has prevented any new vet bills, at least so far. Have you tried that with the dogs?

That could result in hospital emergency room bills for extreme stitchery!

After what just happened with Libya, I'm never going to vote Republican.

Here are my two most recent Facebook statuses.

Republicans are aligning with Kucinich to save Qaddafi.

To be completely clear: The Republicans are defending a war criminal and terrorist.

33 darthstar  Wed, Jun 15, 2011 11:58:18am

I got CBS to take down a stupid poll one time. They wanted to know who people supported for president in 2000 (this was still 1999 when the poll was up). When I saw it, it read:
George W. Bush 33%
Al Gore 27%
other people...
Pat Buchanan 3%

Two hours later, with 25 virtual users doing form submissions (while suppressing images and content), the poll read:
Al Gore 35%
George W. Bush 23%
Pat Buchanan 14%
other people...

I calculate I voted for Buchanan 37,000 times before CBS blocked the IP addresses of the company where I was training engineers on a functional testing tool.

re: #30 Killgore Trout

I'm very pissed right now.

I'm also hoping that Kucinich will be primaried out. Do whatever it take to defeat him. Even attacks on his character. Also, the Democrats need to use this to say that Republicans are aiding a terrorist.

35 darthstar  Wed, Jun 15, 2011 12:06:37pm

Romney pretending to get his ass grabbed...No, Mitt, that bullshit doesn't look sexy on you either.

See? It would have been sexist if he'd grabbed their asses, but by faking having his ass grabbed, he made a joke of women who get sexually harassed in their jobs far too often. All he needs is for Michele Bachmann to express disappointment in him.

I run a fairly active auction house website for MMO's with ~600,000 users.

Just yesterday I had to sit there deleting dozens upon dozens of screenshot uploads, player/item comments, and forum threads spamming stuff about Ron Paul, ending the Fed, going back to the gold standard, and half a dozen crazy-ass conspiracy theories to boot.

So... it's everywhere. Not just political sites.

I ran across her almost 40 years ago when I was, uh, well, ah, incarcerated for a victim-less crime. Young, scared, alone, already rejected religion...it was damned seductive. Damn near ruined my life, to be honest.

Man, that debate was complete ass. Way to softball the GOP, CNN! Maybe you can head to the top of the ratings with amazing questions like "boxers or briefs?" "cut or uncut?"

Your this or that questions and live twitter/facebook feeds will surely put you at the top of the garbage pile in no time!
