Alabama Gov. Bentley Signs Another Extreme Anti-Abortion Law

The Republican Party’s total war on women’s rights
US News • Views: 26,252

Today the Republican governor of Alabama, Robert Bentley, signed a law outlawing abortion after 20 weeks — the fifth red state this year to do so.

Apparently this is the Republican plan to create jobs and get the economy back on track — by forcing women into back alley coat hanger abortions again.

Did we used to have a conservative regular (appropriately named after a bunch of hot air) who used to ASSURE us that today’s GOP is focused like a laser beam on jobs and fiscal conservatism?

I imagine the GOP will have difficulty with the “uppity woman vote” in the next election cycle.

You see, we won’t have a workforce if all the babies are born … . . assuming there will be jobs for them.

I don’t know, I see it as something deeper.

There are those that fear the “white” man is going to be bred to extinction (or at least to the point of being a minority)

The easier access women have to abortion, the more likely the procedure will be done earlier.

8 jaunte  Wed, Jun 15, 2011 6:30:02pm
The Guttmacher Institute estimates that 1.5 percent of abortions in the Unites States occur after the 20th week. The Institute’s research on induced abortions states that 88 percent of abortions in the U.S. take place in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

So Bentley’s law will affect only the most desperate.

We here in Alabama wish Mississippi, Tennessee and S. Carolina would take up the slack. We can’t re-create the 19th Cent all by ourselves.

time for the feds to step in and slam the door shut on this intrusive bullshit….waiting for three years won’t get it, at that point the suffering will be monumental…invent a new process

11 FemNaziBitch  Wed, Jun 15, 2011 6:32:01pm

20 weeks is 1/2 way thru a pregnancy —4.5 months.

I could conceivably see a women not really knowing she was pregnant until that time. Especially if she is going thru menopause.

Again, why is this governments role?

Honestly? I’ve always thought that the Abortion issue and the issue of Gay Marriage would bring more African Americans to the right.

Middle-class African Americans are pretty dang socially conservative.

The nutjob Right is too fucking stupid to know how to take advantage of that issue. So they draw pictures of monkeys to entertain themselves; alienating that potential membership that would have made them more successful.

I’m a fiscal conservative; but *gasp* socially kinda liberal rightie and am so pissed off about this that I can’t see straight.

But; I’m not bitter. No. Not me.

Absolutely true.

That however doesn’t address the ever decreasing age of viability. Science and technology have made fetal viability a benchmark that somehow must be considered.

Peter Singer of Princeton has proposed parents ought to have the right to end the life of an infant up to 30 days old. I don’t think this is where we want to go.

I suspect if abortion were an easy access procedure, coupled with comprehensive sex education, much grief might be avoided.

I don’t see how money could be a “commodity” and have functioning economies. That means you can put money under your mattress and its intrinsic value would just grow, all by itself. (The way the Bitcoin “religion” works). Nobody would want to have a debt payable in a commodity currency.

Up on FB there is a group called “Get Real Philippines” which is devoted to finding ways to solve or at least ease the problems affecting the Philippines today.

Many of these are sensible, such as allowing better access to contraceptives (something de facto banned by the overlord-y church, and de jure banned in certain parts of the country thanks to the church) and the easing of economic restrictions that only protect local monopolies. Government system reform is also a popular topic, with federalism one of the more supported ideas given the geography and diversity of the country.

However there is an increasing faction of followers that think that the Philippines as well as the United States should revert to a fixed-rate exchange.

Just something for pro lifers to think about.

You don’t understand how these people think. You believe they are reasonable human beings and they aren’t. It’s not about being pro life. Its about being against anything dealing with sex and women having any choices. I had a teenage girl’s father get mad at me once because I prescribed her birth control pills after she had had an abortion. He told me she didn’t need them because she was not going to have sex again until she got married. (The daughter told him- not me)

I still prefer going to the games because you can see all of the action, rather than just the small portion of the ice that’s in the view of the camera. There is so much going on all over.

I played and was quite good at hockey all my life. It is a sport and should not be compared to auto racing. But it is boring. It’s just not in our culture. Nobody cares. It’s a sport that only a certain class can play due to it’s cost so you therefore have a smaller pool of athletes to pull from. With basketball or football all you need is a ball and some space.

Most Canadian guys have spent as much time playing street hockey as they did playing on ice. Stick handling, checking and shot accuracy can be learned at the slower speed as easily as at speed.

I played hockey until I hit 12 when I figured out I could throw and catch much better than I could skate and check.

The best theory my amily can come up with is that the COS government has a fantasy of surpassing Denver. Which (in metro area) is larger than us by about 4:1. Denver, Pueblo, and Fort Collins more or less control the state now.

10. Downhill skiing.
9. Saving a penalty kick (soccer)
8. Tour De France (cycling)
7. Running a Marathon
6. Landing a quad (figure skating)
5. Returning a serve (tennis)
4. Hitting a long, straight tee shot (golf)
3. Pole Vaulting
2. Race Car Driving
1. Hitting a baseball

It’s not my list! But, upon reading it; I got some new perspectives.

Many current American NHL players are sons of Canadian NHL players.

We have quite a few American football players who stay in Canada after their career in the CFL is over.

There really isn’t much culture shock going between the two countries, so I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a lot of cross over.

OT: Seems that the party leadership may be lowering the boom on Weiner.

Weiner may lose committee assignment

House Democratic leaders could take the first steps to strip Rep. Anthony Weiner of his seat on the Energy and Commerce Committee as early as tomorrow as part of a larger push to force him out of office, according to Democratic sources familiar with the situation. Party leaders plan to meet at noon Thursday to discuss the matter.

“That is under active consideration,” said one source familiar with the discussion.

Under party rules, the caucus would have to post notice of a decision to consider removing Weiner from his sole committee a week in advance, so any decision by Democratic leaders would take time to germinate. A Democratic leadership aide emphasized that the meeting is not limited to a discussion of Weiner’s committee assignments and is likely to include more general discussion of what to do about the New York congressman.

My wife plays Battle Fleet Gothic…Eldar, specifically. About 12 years ago in Savannah Ga at Morningstar Games, a nerdy klutz picked up the box with her fleet and then dropped it and broke about half of her ships.

She got even.

Let’s be honest, Weiner’s actions aren’t why he’s being put on the fast track out the front door, it’s the public reaction to it. He’s become politically toxic, such that a reelection bid might result in his seat flipping Republican, and the party leadership is scared of that scenario.

That’s what made Tony Gwynn so special…… he had a lifetime batting average of .338. He struck out only 434 times in 9,288 career at-bats. If anyone ever followed him, they will remember he would always swing at the first pitch if it was anywhere within his wheelhouse, just to “zone in” on the pitcher…… which meant being down 0-1 to start for most of those at bats.

Then Weiner can be given the verbal beatdown he so richly deserves and his porn star Twitter=paramour can sign a nice big contract for her “cumback” adult film. (error deliberate)

My wife plays Battle Fleet Gothic…Eldar, specifically. About 12 years ago in Savannah Ga at Morningstar Games, a nerdy klutz picked up the box with her fleet and then dropped it and broke about half of her ships.

She got even.

The next weekend, she found him in the store and then hung on him and prattled about nothing for three hours. He was desperate to escape.

:)

Ha! Perfect.

We both screwed up Rugby.

Rugby fans maybe the most fun.. But boy are they dumb…Our boys are the bad asses on the field.. We wear no equipment!
Point one..Have you ever seen a ripped middle linebacker in the NFL? They are bigger faster stronger and meaner than you
Point two.. You will be wearing pads and helmets within minutes of the game
or end up in the hospital…
That cute little shuttle pass would be a welcome target for Ronnie Lott..

We know Steve, but the political interplay involved in this is still interesting to speculate about for many of us.

I like the way he’s just flipping off his elders and his betters…he’s gone into limbo for treatment…if that alone doesn’t freak people out I’m not sure anything can…as for political interplay, I’m not seeing any…being on the right side of the issue is more important than his behavior…a monster dog and pony show

IMHO it should still be up to the voters in his district to decide the outcome, not party bigwigs.

Party bigwigs are taking care of it because of voters in his district. They initially granted him a pass after he fessed up, thinking that the story would die down and that would be it. Then the rumor about the 17-yr old girl came out, and now the prostitute declaring he told her to lie for him, and all Pelosi and the rest can see is the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Now, they’re pretty much obligated to do something about him, lest they wait til election day and lose the seat due to fallout over choosing to ignore a very real problem.

Yes that’s true… hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports.

I’d take issue with that (and always have, not just because Hockey is on tonight)

1st,,, just try skating
Then try doing it while handling a puck
Them try doing that while someone else is (legally) banging away at you
Then try doing THAT while theres an almost impenetrable obstacle standing in front of a not-so-large target

I’m sure that scenario plays out in all hockey games… is it measurable?

What is measurable however is hitting a baseball traveling at speeds of 90 MPH plus with regularity …….. there aren’t many .300 plus lifetime hitters in the history of baseball.

Quite a few goals are from tipping or hitting a puck travelling at similar speeds and redirecting it into the net.

Hitting a baseball safely is more difficult than just hitting it because there are 9 men trying to keep that ball from hitting the ground, or failing that collecting the ball and getting it to first base before the batter.

Take two people, one a pitcher, the other a hitter. How many times will that hitter connect the ball? How many times will it stay fair?

This is a serious psychological problem, and there are methods that can help people like this, if they want to be helped.

I agree, but I don’t know if I could trust him with public office again.

Some people can handle, some can’t.

Turns out I made a major mistake calculating some of my deductions involving some investments I had made, so they recalculated my return.

They included a check refunding me about a grand I had overpaid.

HEY PETE ROSE! WHAT DOES A MAN REALLY WANT IN HIS AFTER SHAVE?
Pete turns around with some anger in his eyes when he saw this kid laughing and waving at him.. He smiled and turned around to bat.. Pete smiled at me..

Honestly? I’ve always thought that the Abortion issue and the issue of Gay Marriage would bring more African Americans to the right.

Middle-class African Americans are pretty dang socially conservative.

Some are, as I once was, but good luck trying to get African Americans to be single-issue on it, or anything else.

Try as they might, even with that iiot Alveda King trying to attach her last name to every other tea party convention there is, it’s probably not ever going to happen. If any group of Americans sees through the conservative movement for what it is and has always been, it’s African Americans.

That’s why they resent our voting patterns so much…they need the moral weight yet know at the rate they are going they are unlikely to ever get it.

Oh, how I hated Cindy Sheehan. The worse thing about her is she was like a Rorschach test for many on the left. They didn’t listen to the absolutely things she’d say, like her son “joined the Army to protect America, not Israel.” (though she claims that was a forged communication), etc. They projected on her some sort of mother-hero and didn’t listen too carefully to her message.

Oh, yes some of us did.

Hey, be glad she wasn’t running in your city trying to oust your House rep, to punish her for those five horrid words, “impeachment is off the table”.

She went woo-woo at least in 2007, when she started cavorting around with Alex Jones. But then, you had a lot of duped lefties who were convinced AJ was “liberal” because he “hated George Bush”.

Manichaean thinking ruled the day…hasn’t really stopped.

At 20 weeks, it’s not generally, “Gee, I think I’d like an abortion!” Usually it’s a problem with the baby, the parents find out that it has major genetic defects or that bringing it to term will endanger the mother’s life.

A lot of people really just have no clue about women’s bodies or how decisions are made to carry to term, or not.

I don’t either. Bagwell did pretty badly in voting in his first year of eligibility despite never being tied to a PED scandal. If, 5 years from now, Lebron has 3 or 4 rings, we’ll mostly forget about his playoffs of 2011; the redemption narrative will win out. BUT he pretty much sucked in these Finals, after playing pretty well in the first 3 rounds. I don’t know if he choked, or what…but a big disappointment for someone who had a season like his.

Far worse things were said about Nowitzki 5 years ago…look at him now. Players have a way of maturing in their late 20s and early 30s (see Jordan, Olajuwon, etc) Maybe it won’t happen with Lebron, but too early to give up on him yet.

Of course he’s no Jordan, nobody else is. But he could certainly be a big part of a team that wins some titles. He’s loaded with talent (in 2007 he singlehandedly took his team to the finals, at age 22, losing to much better Spurs) and he’s not even necessarily peaked yet. It’s not brain surgery to find a way to integrate such a player into a championship team. If you can do it with Rasheed Wallace, you can do it with anyone. By joining up with Wade and Bosh, though, he made it clear that he didn’t want to be “the man” all the time.

Jordan was criticized mercilessly in his first 6 seasons for winning scoring titles but not championships. Then he matured a little and won 6 in 8 years. I’m just saying the same dynamic might apply here, although you’re right—he won’t get 6 rings.

Me too, they’re at the right age to dominate, not too young or old…so 4-5 years sounds about right. The year before they got together LBJ, Wade and Bosh were ranked 1, 3 and 4 respectively in PER (a complicated stat formula that evaluates players’ overall efficiency). Wade and James were again in the top 5 this season. Very few teams have ever had such a combination of players, and if they just put some competent players around these guys, they could be truly dominant.

Piss of your host, you get shown the door. And that’s all I have to say about that.

I think it was a question of blocked vs time out.

Yea….. I’m not disputing that in the least. Again….. it was a question of if he was blocked or given a time out.

No worries

If Anthony gets tossed out, or mapped out, or voted out of office, I hear CNN already has a show for him WITH a co-host

It will be called Spitz The Weiner, starring Anthony and Eliot!

//

I vote for calling it the Weiner Spitz show.

From the thread when Walter got his timeout, IIRC Charles accidentally blocked him, then changed it to a 24-hour timeout as noted here.

If he can’t get on and wants to he can email Charles to get it fixed.

Anybody ever visit viletweets.com? A lot of the unhinged ones get the FBI or cops called on them, as they should.

Klassy.

Good find. Someone asked the other night about sites where “the line has been crossed.”

Today, the Republican governor of Alabama, Robert Bentley, signed a law outlawing abortion after 20 weeks — the fifth red state this year to do so.

Just more of that less government the country so desperately needs.

I tried to decipher it, but I kept getting snagged by “I’mis plenty of time fairly liberal”.

I have no idea what happened there. Must’ve been late in the day, when
I was cruising on 5 hours of sleep and a red bull.

Actually….my real name is Jar Jar Binks:

“Ani! Ani! Im’sa plenty a’ times fairly liberal Ani!”

It should have just said “I’m fairly liberal”. I dont know how the rest of
it got in there…accidental paste from something else maybe.
