Palin Bailin’ on Sudan Trip with Graham

Jury duty

Sarah Palin is bailin’ again, canceling a trip to Sudan with Muslim-hating preacher Franklin Graham at the last minute.

(CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin canceled a July trip to Sudan due to “scheduling problems,” a source with knowledge of the trip confirmed to CNN Thursday.

Palin was scheduled to travel to the southern part of the war-savaged country with Franklin Graham, son of evangelical leader Billy Graham, to attend the July 9 independence ceremony, information she first told a London newspaper earlier this month.

“She is not going to Sudan due to scheduling problems,” said the source, who would not speak on the record because Palin’s travel itinerary is considered private.

Palin also explained today (on her Facebook page) why her Magical History Bus Tour is on hiatus: she has jury duty.

Palin took to her Facebook page to spread the truth: she has jury duty.
In a post titled,”*Sigh* Reports of Tour Demise Are Greatly Exaggerated,”she appeared to reassure readers that there’s plenty of time for more travel, saying, “the summer is long.”

“The coming weeks are tight because civic duty calls (like most everyone else, even former governors get called up for jury duty),” Palin revealed.

But she’s “looking forward to hitting the open road again” and declared, “The next leg of the tour continues when the time comes.”

what an air head, chasing her tail....
she has become a nonsensical parody of herself

“She is not going to Sudan due to scheduling problems,”

Someone finally told her she couldn't make it there in the tour bus?

Palin is the Brittney Spears of pop politics...she bombs around making no sense whatsoever...she is committed to nothing besides seeking attention

There is absolutely no way! that any decent lawyer would let Palin serve on a jury.

Her appeal may even be starting to fade among the Tea baggers.

There are that many decent lawyers?

The difference is, the people around Spears don't try to make her into something she's not. Everyone around her admits she doesn't sing live and that she's going to just pantomime and dance around.

None of the people surrounding Palin will admit to her being a fraud. They act like she's a serious political figure.

re: #7 JasonA

Decently competent, not decently ethical.

She'd be a hazardous loose cannon that would probably keep lawyers on both sides up at night wondering what she would do in the deliberation room, assuming she didn't just walk out of the courtroom halfway through.

jury duty, jury duty... I find myself wondering which stage of jury duty.

Alaska (depending on district) summons people for 60 or 90 day periods. That summons goes out four to six weeks before the period begins.

During the period, the summoned call in once a week to see if they're actually selected for the next week. Only if they are do they come in to the courthouse. Note that selected doesn't mean they're in a trial, it means they're among the pool from which juries will be selected that week. If you go the 60-90 day period without selection, OR you spend 5 days in the courthouse waiting to be picked, OR you serve on a jury, your service is complete and you can be exempted for a year. (exemption is your choice).

So I wonder.
Did Sarah get her summons saying she's going to be part of the pool that starts in July?
Or does her 60-90 day service window begin next week?
Or did she call in and discover she's got to sit in the courthouse this or next week?

If it's either of the first two, I'm going to return to ridiculing her for quitting the tour. If it's the last I grant the bye.

First the Pentagon, and now Palin. Graham is having a tough year.

Of course. She has to keep her dwindling fanbase (including the media) wanting more.

Unless the case revolves around the defense wanting to take some crazy right wing position, then a successful lawyer (not a 'good' lawyer, more a devious one) will of course want her on the jury. If it's a jury for, say, hate crimes against homosexuals or people of another religion, or a class action lawsuit brought up by a labor union, or just involves a "good ol' white christian boy" who did something wrong and should only get a slap on the wrist, the defense will want people like Palin on the jury. Plus, the populism will rub off on all those who take Sarah's side.

Not just a political figure. They're comparing her to Esther and Deborah from the bible.

I'm sitting here with such a disgusted look on my face, I'm lucky nobody can see me. That was repulsive. That even the wash times has to admit she may just be a carnival barker did give me a chuckle. The rest is barf-worthy.

As a one time court clerk this is a perfect excuse that any Judge would grant:

I am running for President of the US! You may know me, I used to be your Governor!

There must have been a lot of laughing when they got the list of potential jurors and her name was on the list.

etc

Both federal and state courts in AK allow deferrals from jury duty. The federal courts seem more lenient than the state courts, but it's implausible that the logistics and expense of a nationwide tour are not a valid excuse.

Of course, Citizen Palin may have made plans through 2012 and beyond.

2. It wouldn't surprise me if the Palin people spread the rumor that the tour was cancelled--with the intention of doing a gotcha as soon as the media reported it.

3. The term Bailin' Palin fits. Hopefully it spreads and sticks.

Only good thing about Sarah is that she makes Bachman look so much more crazy...

Well, shameless self-promotion isn't grounds for deferring jury duty, last I checked, so I guess she has to pay the piper.

Well, assuming she resumes the tour once jury duty is finished, I honestly wouldn't call her out on this one. If she deferred jury duty, she'd never hear the end of it.
