God Tells Another Fundamentalist Republican to Run for President

Rick Perry getting the message from the man upstairs
Wingnuts • Views: 33,832

Fundamentalist Texas Governor Rick Perry announced today that he’s starting to hear that call from the Big Guy.

“I’m not ready to tell you that I’m ready to announce that I’m in,” Gov. Rick Perry told The Des Moines Register. “But I’m getting more and more comfortable every day that this is what I’ve been called to do. This is what America needs.”

God sure is telling a lot of Republicans to run for President. I think He’s just messing with them.

Molly Ivins used to suspect cases of people impersonatin’ the Lord when this kind of thing happened. She wanted Lord impersonation to be made illegal in Texas. No one paid attention, and now it is escalating.

(Actually, Molly suspected a Lord impersonator when one Texas family was told by someone claimin’ to be the Lord to strip naked, get in their car, and drive, or the city they were in would be destroyed.)

All part of His plan, I guess. Do you think he gets drunk with some buddies and they start saying things like, “Wouldn’t it be funny if…”?

That’s kind of how the Book of Job starts out.

I’m wondering if this is going to get very ugly, with lots of charges of impurity, or whether it will largely be a festival of agreement, as each of them tries to win the “Who hates Obama most?” contest.

The Texan with the slight Southern drawl who has called dozens of top Iowa Republican activists in the past few weeks sounds more and more like he’s about to run for president.

I’m getting more and more comfortable every day that this is what I’ve been called to do

I think he’s more talking about feedback from “top Iowa Republican activists”

as well as

But his wife, Anita, and hundreds of people nationwide say they want him to run, he said.

I keep thinking that if there is a heaven, George Carlin is laughing it up with God up there, being all “You shoulda seen the look on their faces when I did my atheist schtick”. The kicker is that he’s still believably assholic even then.

This is what Jesus has to say about this kind of stuff:

Matthew 6:5-6: “And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men….when thou prayest, enter into thy closet and when thou has shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret….”

Why do Christians never listen to Jesus do they think he is an illegal alien or something.

It does not. I have to say, I think the use of ‘called’ is meant to give a light impression of that to folks that have ears to hear, but he’s playing it cool.

Which actually, to my mind, makes him rather more serious that some of these others…the wingnut who’s not planning to try to court the mainstream just says “God is talking to me”. Perry’s acting like a normal politician. Well, as normal as a man with hair like that can manage.

CBN:

Governor Rick Perry, who is hosting a massive Christian prayer and fasting event next month and is seriously considering jumping into the 2012 presidential race, told a Christian radio program Thursday that the upcoming prayer event in Houston will be about asking God to forgive all of us “for the sins that we have committed.”

Perry said the event will be about, “people calling out to God.”

He also made clear that he wants, “God helping me, guiding me, giving me direction.”

Asked what he wants the event to accomplish, he said that he wants, “God’s will to be done”

American voters disapprove 56 - 38 percent of the way President Barack Obama is handling the economy, but by 45 - 38 percent they trust the president more than congressional Republicans to handle the economy, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.
…54 - 27 percent they blame former President George W. Bush more than President Obama.
..
Voters will blame Republicans over Obama 48 - 34 percent if the debt limit is not raised;
Voters say 67 - 25 percent that an agreement to raise the debt ceiling should include tax hikes for the wealthy and corporations, not just spending cuts;
Voters say 45 - 37 percent that Obama’s proposals to raise revenues are “closing loopholes,” rather than “tax hikes”;

Perry is not, in my opinion, a potential president for all Americans.

Perry has expressed his views on non-Christian religions. Perry attended a service at the Cornerstone church in San Antonio, conducted by Rev. John Hagee. During that service Rev. Hagee stated, “If you live your life and don’t confess your sins to God Almighty through the authority of Christ and His blood, I’m going to say this very plainly, you’re going straight to hell with a nonstop ticket.” Perry was asked if he agreed with the comments, and Perry responded:

“It is my faith, and I’m a believer of that”.

Perry rubbed salt in the wound by explaining that there was nothing in the sermon with which he took exception. Perry explained that he believes in the inerrancy of the Bible and those who reject Jesus Christ as their savior will go to hell.

Great idea. If you get some good photos, I’ll feature them at LGF. With this amazing list of extremist sponsors, it’s going to be a real freak show.

Same building. I guess Saturdays are open for the Synagogue. Who knows what the Baptists and Chinese Lutherans do with their split. I def will take photo, it’s kinda crazy to see!

The Home Depot near us in Israel was run by a secular moshav. Since Israel has fairly strict laws prohibiting working a person on their holy day, the store had a Jewish staff, a Muslim staff, and a Christian staff. Stayed open all weekend.

It’s the most foolish hyperbole. It’s not enough for these people to say they feel empowered or inspired by god. They have to claim a direct unique connection, the whisper only their ears can hear.

Ever wish for god or jesus to show up, walk over to one of these fools and say “Shut up. Those voices in your head are all yours, I never said s*&t to you.” LOL. I used to think that when I saw Benny Hinn.

re: #65 SanFranciscoZionist

Seriously, this sort of thing is hard for me to gage. I was raised in a religious setting where saying some of the things that seem not only OK but praiseworthy in evangelical settings would be shocking.

I need people interpreting to let me know how some of the stuff politicians say to an evangelical crowd actually sounds.

Having been raised in it, I know exactly what these dogwhistles are and how they are taken. But must say, the real master of the dogwhistle imo is Palin - I’d never seen a politician like that on the national stage use them like that before. I have a tag on the site called “Evangelical Dogwhistles Exposed” but stopped using it long ago because there were just too many. :)

Usually I don’t have a lot of sympathy for the crowd these politicians are exploiting, but they fall for the dogwhistles every time and never seem to learn. It’s been happening to them since Reagan, at least…Nixon too if one wants to include the dogwhistle to end all dogwhistles, “silent majority”.

Brotherhood Way in SF is church/synagogue row. It’s kind of nice. Lots of big congregations, Catholic, Orthodox, Conservative Jewish, all sorts. Crazy Flash site: [Link: www.brotherhoodwaysf.org…]

Also, there are a lot of scenes like that in Harlem. LDS temple catty corner to a NOI mosque, across the street from Institutional Baptists…Harlem is a religion-watcher’s paradise.

That pattern is the norm for the military chaplaincies. A modern post chapel is designed to do instant stagecraft to switch symbols. (There is a curtain to cover the cross, the Catholic stations have little shutters to flip over them.)

Apply a little juice to the right area of the brain and you can induce the feeling of an evil presence over one shoulder and a benevolent presence over the other. Change the position of the current and you can induce the feeling of experiencing a religious epiphany.

Goodhair’s greeting at The Response’s website:

Fellow Americans,

Right now, America is in crisis: we have been besieged by financial debt, terrorism, and a multitude of natural disasters. As a nation, we must come together and call upon Jesus to guide us through unprecedented struggles, and thank Him for the blessings of freedom we so richly enjoy.

Some problems are beyond our power to solve, and according to the Book of Joel, Chapter 2, this historic hour demands a historic response. Therefore, on August 6, thousands will gather to pray for a historic breakthrough for our country and a renewed sense of moral purpose.
I sincerely hope you’ll join me in Houston on August 6th and take your place in Reliant Stadium with praying people asking God’s forgiveness, wisdom and provision for our state and nation. There is hope for America. It lies in heaven, and we will find it on our knees.

Sincerely,

Governor Goodhair (R-Texas A&M)

Isn’t it amazing how the things God calls these folks to do is almost always in line with their worldly ambitions? It’s never their desires, no, they’re just humble servants who, if they weren’t being called by a higher power to run for president, would continue quietly striving to make the world a better place for all of Gods children.

As God’s spiritual vicegerents on Earth, they’d be tirelessly advocating on behalf of the meek & dispossessed, fighting to protect the enormous blessing of abundance that is our natural environment, supporting our educators and working closely with them to ensure that our children’s education provides them with access to only the very best most modern & accurate curriculum to help them carry progress forward… Wait, what do you mean “and then you woke up”? Are you saying that’s NOT what they do when they’re not campaigning? /

And what will happen when they screw up? Well, that will be Satan’s fault, of course, the flesh being weak and whatnot.
