24 SanFranciscoZionist  Thu, Aug 11, 2011 3:31:10pm

DovBear is reading WND:

"This article by Joseph Farrah from World Nutters Daily defies parody. "

How much don't we know about Barack Obama as he nears the end of his third year of White House occupation?

Well, he claims today is his 50th birthday.

Yet, incredibly, it is still only an unsubstantiated claim – and, perhaps, more suspect than ever.

"Does Jo-jo remind anyone else of that Japanese soldier from Gilligan's Island who hadn't gotten the news about World War II ending?"

25 SanFranciscoZionist  Thu, Aug 11, 2011 3:34:51pm

Berther, at DovBear, responds:

What amazes me is that this guy [SFZ's note: Farrah] is a Christian. I can't really figure out why.

If one objectively looks at the record for Obama's life and compares it to the record of the life of Jesus, I can't see how Farrah can doubt the record on Obama, but accept the "record" for Jesus.

Jesus was born of a mother who - she claims - was visited by an angel, while unmarried, and thereafter conceived divinely.

After his birth, he disappears from the record until he is around two, when he is visted by some mysterious men from "the east." We know that his family flees to Egypt at this time to avoid being killed by Herod.

Then Jesus disappears for over ten years.

He next reappears as a Bar Mitzvah boy astounding the elders in the Temple with his knowledge.

Then he disappears AGAIN. This time for around 17 years.

Finally, Jesus appears again and this time he is a wandering teacher. Three years later, he is killed by the Romans.

So, just who was this guy, anyway? His mother wasn't married at the time she conceived, and it is alleged that the father wasn't the man she eventually married, but God himself - but there were no paternity tests available back then, so there is no proof for this assertion. Then there is all of the disappearing from the record. There are no accounts of anyone who knew Jesus as a child. No records of his playmates or his classmates. How did he obtain this knowledge that astounded even the most learned teachers in the Temple? We have no records of his schooling. Did he go to school in Egypt, the last place he was seen before his bar mitzvah? Where are the stories from his teachers? Then he disappears again and returns as this radical teacher who lashes out at the Jewish establishment and tries to reform all sorts of beliefs, all while picking associates, some of whom came from the underbelly of society.

And when was this guy even born, anyway? His followers today celebrate his birthday on Dec 25 - but they also recognize that that day is not correct. That's strange. It's stranger still when some of their scholars say that he was most likely born in late spring or early summer. So, why do they still celebrate in Dec 25? And it's acknowledge that the Dec 25 date is a pagan holiday. Well, if Jesus was really God, then wouldn't that be disgracing him to celebrate his birthday on a pagan holiday? Something just doesn't add up.

And where was he even from? He's often called Jesus of Nazareth, but there seems to be some dispute as to whether the town really existed while Jesus was alive.

And we have these books that tell the story of the life of Jesus - and Jesus didn't even write them. Some of the books have the names of some of his followers on them, but it's believe that they didn't really write them. So who did? Who was Matthew's ghostwriter? Why is that information such a secret? How could the true author of the life of Jesus be unknown?

And it's said that he is the Moshiach ben David, but the geneological line of Jesus runs through Yehoiakim, which means that he is cut off from the kingship and thus disqualified from being Moshiach.

With so many unanswered questions, the practically 30 missing years from his 33 year life, the unsubtantiated claims of parentage, the disqualified claims to the Kingship and Messiahship, the lack of records of anyone who knew him from his first 30 years . . . it's really surprising that someone so astute as Farrah, someone who can detect when Obama might be hiding something . . . is completely oblivious to the incredibly spotty record of the live of the man that he considers his messiah, lord, and god?

26 SanFranciscoZionist  Thu, Aug 11, 2011 3:36:19pm

I really wouldn't poke Farrah like that, though. I wouldn't put it past these guys to start investigating Jesus.

The comments at WND are pretty evenly split between people telling Farrah he's nuts, and people calling those people liberal plants and DC parasites.

And the comment from Berther I'm now worried will be offensive to Christians--I just thought it was a funny commentary on what we take on faith, and what we refuse to accept despite mountains of evidence.

Farrah's not like a Japanese soldier at all. Those men were actually dangerous and able to fight, Farah is a mall ninja at best. They had seen their army win battle after battle in 1941/1942, and could not believe the USA could make a comeback after those defeats. Given the propaganda they had been fed, such disbelief is understandable. What's Farah's excuse, other than butthurt?

Isn't the military essentially the biggest govt stimulus plan of all? One that's very effective in creating jobs, among other things.

You may disagree with Krugman, but he's no hack. Lately he sounds a lot like, and has been openly agreeing with folks like Bartlett and even Frum, guys who can't be called hacks and certainly not liberals.

Sorry DF, but the problem with the stimulus was that it was too small. Had we really wanted it to work it needed to be, at minimum, twice as much. Now we need a 4x ~ 6x stimulus to help us out of the 1937-esque hole we're digging with spending cuts and no tax hikes.

Plus story was that the teacher had been a professor before. I wasn't ready for professor style at 16 especially not in a field I was poor at. I retook it senior year and passed and had a great time since I had an awesome guy for a teacher and a lot of friends in class. Plus it was the middle of the day so I was wide awake. My proudest high school moment was being elected senior class president, despite having been pegged as a 'troublemaker' by the principal. He nearly choked when he introduced me after the election. :)

I was such a troublemaker that when I signed up to run for student council, the secretary who took my application immediately recruited two more popular kids to run and beat me. Good lesson on what politics are really like.

Good to know. Talking it out is usually best.

Yeah. I was being too cavalier in addressing some things and he needed to call me out on it. I'm glad he did and it's the proof he's a good friend.

85 wrenchwench  Thu, Aug 11, 2011 4:28:15pm

When Mr. w took chemistry in the 50's, he was not treated fairly by the teacher, and once arranged to have her sit on a wet sponge. He took the rest of the semester's classes in the hallway outside the principal's office, and got an A.

Maybe it was something emanating from the book. I had a friend who claimed to be allergic to freshly-printed textbooks.

The Huckster thinks Perry screwed up the timing on announcing his Presidential bid tomorrow.

My apologies to everyone who responded to my request downstairs. I can be such an asshole. Right after I posted I noticed the time and realized I had to get my ass over to my wife's work to pick her up. I just got back a little while ago.

There are some really good answers downstairs.

Now that has me curious, I wonder who Huckabee will support since it sure as hell won't be Romney.

Why he's praising Romney is odd. Maybe he thinks Romney has the best general election shot and would rather have a Mormon than Obama.

Hearing about the various Lizard horror stories re: HS chemistry sure make me feel better. God did I HATE that subject! A charming yet inept teacher, boring ass labs, being poisoned by lycopodium, and having to make up failing the final by 2 points by doing 8 more labs in summer so that I could get my diploma?

At least I feel better knowing that I'm not the only one....

Yeah, just an awful class all around. I had an older friend at the time who who was a biology major in college who talked about organic chemistry and I told her she was nuts in the most kind way :).

Krugman's a hack. He's kept calling for stimulus long after it's become that stimulus doesn't work and that the country's broke.

The stimulus worked in Canada.
Perhaps many from the far right worked to make it look like it failed.

Yep. They worked hard to make it as small as possible, and then started claiming it 'failed' about two weeks after it passed.

re: #97 Dark_Falcon

Well I think he is still pissed that Perry endorsed Ruddy instead of him in the 08 race.

Mike Huckabee: Rick Perry timing 'bad form,' 'tactical blunder'

"Huckabee has quickly started to emerge as a Southern, Christian conservative thorn in Rick Perry’s Southern, Christian conservative side, and previously jabbed at Perry for having endorsed Rudy Giuliani for president in 2008.

Huckabee sought Perry’s support for his own bid that year, to no avail."

and

Mike Huckabee: Don't expect endorsement any time soon

"The Arkansan was, however, notably less talkative when asked about Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s prospects.

“I think it’s wide open for anybody but we’ll see,” Huckabee said, not mentioning Perry."

Wires? No. But when I say "arranged to have her sit", I mean he picked her up and set her on it, on one of the lab stools.
