A dozen people frantically chanting "Sarah! Sarah!"

2 A Man for all Seasons  Sat, Sep 3, 2011 11:01:09am

I never watch C-Span..Cause I can't find it..So 10 minutes ago I try to find C-Span...I started in the 800's and C-Span is on Channel 6! I didn't know that I had BYUtv either..I got Mormon TV!
oh well.. This rally so far sucks

Crowd looks to have swelled to about 300 or so.

Oh well, I thought I could grab C-SPAN's live video feed, but they're blocking embedding.

Now we have the angry teabag country singer. "God and country is the first thing we should be singin' about on the radio. And the last. And everything in between."

Wow, this was THE MOST REQUESTED SONG in the nation until evil radio and record labels banned it!

8 allegro  Sat, Sep 3, 2011 11:03:57am

Poor guy. Such brilliance that he isn't allowed to let it shine cuz RCA is censoring him. Couldn't possibly be because he can't really sing and the song is painfully unoriginal.

About the singer's contract trouble:

COUNTRY II: Convinced that RCA Records buckled under to demands of "left-wing" radio executives, Vaus wrote a letter to the American Civil Liberties Union in Southern California, asking for assistance in what he calls his free-speech battle. But his request for help, he says, fell on deaf ears.

"I guess you have to be a left-wing radical or a racist minority before anyone gives a damn about the record industry gagging your freedom of speech," Vaus argues.
....
"In this case, there is no government interference involved," said an ACLU spokesman. "The Steve Vaus situation appears to be about a contract dispute. It does not appear to us as if any public official has threatened this man's free-speech rights."

I just love it though. How many here on the left have been told either by a conservative friend or acquaintance or pundit that it's liberals who are whiners and strive on victimhood? That's exactly what many of these Tea Partiers seem to be all about. They're the victims you see not real victims of oppression. Cry me a river that he couldn't get his stupid song put on the radio. If he was as self reliant as these people make themselves out to be, he'd release it on the internet and if it was as good as he says it is, then buzz would carry it.

Jack Weston, vice president and general manager of RCA Records in Nashville:

"Sometimes you see the writing on the wall and you try to cut your losses as quickly as you can," Weston explains. "When we first heard Mr. Vaus' music, we thought that, given the election and the current political climate, it might appeal to a lot of folks out there. But we were wrong.

"Radio programmers said they didn't think their listeners wanted to hear somebody harping about all these causes in such a preachy manner. Fact is, the record just didn't sell."[Link: articles.latimes.com...]

re: #13 albusteve

another retread they dust off...how long can you try and scare people with that old song?...stupidity has taken over America

Afternoon, all!

Steve- I think Teh Stupid has always been there. 100 is the *average* IQ in the US. What has changed, seems to me, is the number and range of resources for disseminating stupidity and the increasing number of stupid people listening. Charles' post is atypical of this. It is directed toward thinking people who understand and appreciate complexity and nuance.

The 100% American is 99% idiot.

170 labman57  Sat, Sep 3, 2011 11:54:35am

Sarah Snarkmeister strikes again. Typical Palin with an extra dose of irony.

Attempting to draw attention to herself during Labor Day weekend … which was established to celebrate the efforts and inherent value of labor unions … which she so enthusiastically vilifies.

Palin has had plenty of opportunities to step up to the plate and declare her candidacy. But she lacks the intellect, the work ethic, and the intestinal fortitude for a serious campaign … and she knows it. So she opted for the world of “make believe” where she could pretend that she was a candidate, rake in millions of dollars (via donations, book sales, and speaking engagements), bask in the media spotlight, give shallow, snarky speeches and interviews, and evade any true responsibilities.

Meanwhile, the Republican Party — anxiously awaiting the arrival of a rational, viable candidate for the 2012 general election for the presidency — is giving their modern day interpretation of “Waiting for Godot”.

re: #206 Killgore Trout

It's become obvious to even the wingnuts that she's just screwing around and wasting everyone's time and money.

That was pretty obvious a long while back. Yet, they'll still keep defending her, still keep finding excuses for her. They don't know how to quit her.

The hogs are actually a problem for ranchers. Helicopter shooting seems to be the most expensive and fuel-wasting option for control, though.

Perry's "health care reform plan"

Perry spokesman Mark Miner said the first thing the governor would do as president is work with Congress to repeal “Obamacare.” Then he would “start over,” first by working to stabilize the country’s economy for employers, then by trying to “free states from federal mandates and empower them to develop innovative solutions.” Finally, he would attempt to lower skyrocketing health care costs “through the proven, market-based strategies of transparency, choice and competition.” Perry wants states to be given flexibility and incentives to foster competition in the insurance market, to design solutions for patients with pre-existing conditions, to lower costs for small businesses and to implement medical malpractice reform, Miner said.

Blah, blah...

Poor guy. Such brilliance that he isn't allowed to let it shine cuz RCA is censoring him. Couldn't possibly be because he can't really sing and the song is painfully unoriginal.

Recall Johnny Cash's response to C/W radio not playing songs from his award winning album?

For hog hunting it would make more sense to jeeps or horses. Helicopters sounds like overkill.

All blathering rhetoric, no actual ideas for those that would be left on the way side.

Perry is just a slimy, uncaring bastard.

This site suggests that the pigs will change behavior if they're hunted:

Shooting
Sport hunting is used in certain areas to reduce wild pig densities and can be a source of revenue for ranchers. Success is highly dependent on local situations and terrain. Hunting is not recommended if there is a serious depredation or disease problem. Unsuccessful hunting will make wild pigs keep to cover and change their feeding habits. The use of dogs can increase hunter success. Good dogs chase pigs from cover where they can be shot by hunters.[Link: www.unitedwildlife.com...]

Jeeps and horses can carry the hog out, a helicopter would have to waste precious fuel landing, taking off and factor in the weight of the hog for the return trip. It doesn't sound conducive to hunting for food, it sounds like an unbelievable waste.

Actually a majority of republicans, even tea party folks, dont think she should run.

From a fox news poll:

Even as Texas Gov. Rick Perry moves into the lead as Republican voters’ preferred presidential candidate, a Fox News poll released Thursday shows that voters are more likely to view him as “too extreme” than former frontrunner Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney. In addition, most American voters -- including a majority of Republicans -- think former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin should stay out of the presidential race.

Do you think Sarah Palin should run for president in 2012 or not?

Republicans
Yes 25 No 71

Tea Party
Yes 28 No 66

Ayep, if she'd announced way earlier, she might have kept at least some of the momentum going. Now? Even if she does announce, she's likely to be met with more derision and disinterest than any real support.

She'll be seen as a spoiler for the GOP primaries...a fly in Perry's ointment, as it were.

you don't sneak up on wild hogs in trucks, you have to stalk them....they are very difficult to find if they don't want to be found....a combination of helicopter and ground transport is probably the best way to find them....this is becoming a pretty serious problem

223 SteveMcG  Sat, Sep 3, 2011 2:17:23pm

I think that the reason she's such a tease is that if she ran, I don't think she can collect for speaking engagements. Right now she gets paid up front, but if she's running there are lots of rules about what she can do with the money she pulls in.

These people have a pathetic need to feel like they're exceptional.

Yep, general-issue conservative self-loathing...replace your weak ass sense of self with empty cliches, the thought of a punitive, Big Fingerwagging Mama government, and flags made in some communist country.

When someone inevitably laughs at how stupid you, just take that as a sure sign of your exceptionalism, and run to SarahPAC donations page. American Demagogaue, 2.0.

Dumb, yet smarter than the average self-loathing con who gives her their hard earned money.

Though, it doesn't take a lot of smarts to surpass their dumb asses.

re: #124 austin_blue

Steve- I think Teh Stupid has always been there. 100 is the *average* IQ in the US. What has changed, seems to me, is the number and range of resources for disseminating stupidity and the increasing number of stupid people listening. Charles' post is atypical of this. It is directed toward thinking people who understand and appreciate complexity and nuance.

The 100% American is 99% idiot.
- - - George Bernard Shaw

Nitpicking here, about the part I put in boldface, because I've seen it come up elsewhere.

100 is the average IQ because it's made to be the average. IQ is a statistically normed value for a specific test, with a range of scores centered around 100. So, complaining that the average IQ of Americans is 100 is bit like saying noon happens at the same time every day.

As for the rest of your comment, I have no quibbles. Shaw was right, statistics aside.
