Actual News Headline vs. Fox News Headline

Red meat for the far right
Wingnuts • Views: 21,077

The headline at cincinnati.com: Experts say Obama’s visit won’t help bridge.

At Fox Nation, this devolves into yet another blast of hatred at President Obama: Bridge to Nowhere: Obama Royally Screws Up Stimulus Pitch.

Fox Nation is pumping this deranged poison into the bloodstream of US politics 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Fox has long since dropped any pretence of being a news outfit. It is good that you keep posting proof of their ridiculous propaganda, lies, distortions and fabrications. They are shameless shills and slowly but surely the Average American will come to realize just how much Fox lies, all the time.

In this case, they are castigating Obama calling to create jobs by doing needed infrastructure work on a bridge that everyone knows needs work and most certainly does not go nowhere.

It is lie upon lie that the GOP wants to create jobs - even needed ones doing needed thing. Nothing that would actually help the economy right now is to be permitted - and Fox is right there telling people to act against their own interests.

I remember back when people would try to claim Fox news wasn’t any different than any other news outlet.

More innocent times.

Rush Limbaugh and Obama get into a foot race. Obama beats Rush easily. The Fox News Headline would read “Obama comes in next to last.”

Hatred of Obama blinds them to the facts - or how infrastructure spending is done (memo to Fox - Congress controls the purse strings).

there was a time when such opinionateering was considered disreputable for an organization claiming to disseminate “news”

Stolen memo from Fox News!

attn: Headline writers
From: Roger Ailes

Hey guys. As you all know September is “I hate Obama” month here at Fox News…wait, who am I kidding? EVERY month is “I hate Obama” month!

But this month we’re doing something special. We want to see the special kind of hatred and dislike of the President you have show up in your incredible headlines.

Submissions can be made now through Sept. 30. The 3 writers who write the most anti-Obama headlines (as judged by fellow Fox employees) will receive an extra $1000 on their final check for the month.

Good luck and Happy Obama bashing!

Thank you, Lidane and Targetpractice. I was just about to say the same thing: Fox News reminds me of Pravda. I think Pravda used to be posted on walls, as 2 pages, every day. In Fox News’ dream America, they’ll post 2 pages on walls, for loyal citizens to read and (of course) agree with enthusiastically. I imagine instead of Pravda, these 2 pages can be called “Talking Points”.

Yes, the smug certainty of a bunch of people who think they are super elite businessmen. Actual millionaires are unlikely to bother with commenting on Fox. Why they hire people to do that.

There are few things more immediately contemptible than little pishers putting others down to feel superior.

And for the record, as far as liberals go… what about all of those proud Democratic voting veterans and workers out there who certainly work much harder than any of those twits?

Actually, it is a good time to link:

“The surface transportation reauthorization that Congress is developing will not contain specific project earmarks, so funding specifically for this bridge or any other individual project won’t appear in that legislation,” he said.

He added: “Most revenues available through this legislation will be returned to state DOTs, and decisions about how to allocate those federal transportation dollars will be left to their discretion.”

The Brent Spence Bridge is on the Ohio Department of Transportation’s list of major state projects. But there are at least a dozen other projects also on that list, said Stefan Spinosa, design engineer for ODOT’s District 8.

“This project would fall into the process along with all the other projects in the state,” Spinosa said. The projects aren’t ranked and each has merit, he said.

If the president suddenly became the magical micromanager of infrastructure projects that the Fox audience appears to be calling for on this story, they would suddenly about face and start calling him an obsessive dictator.

It takes chutzpah to headline an article and provide a photo that visibly and immediately contradicts the headline. The bridge is clearly from somewhere to somewhere. There’s plenty of structures on both sides of the bridge.

A four year old, asked if that bridge went nowhere, would get the question right, and wonder what was with you that you had to ask it.

If the president suddenly became the magical micromanager of infrastructure projects that the Fox audience appears to be calling for on this story, they would suddenly about face and start calling him an obsessive dictator.

If president Obama was careful to get into Libya they would call him weak and a Muslim sympathiser. If he sent forces to Libya, they would suddenly get isolationist.

Wait that happened.

If Obama proposed a completely Republican idea, to support business, first used by Reagan, and run on by McCain/Palin called cap and trade, they would suddenly call it names and decry it as anti business - even McCain and Palin.

Wait that happened.

If Obama tried to create jobs while the GOP called for jobs, jobs, jobs, the GOP would kill it.

Wait that happened.

The list goes on and on. The depths of brainwashing it must take for GOP people to not notice are beyond my ability to understand. I always wondered how the bit in 1984 with “we are at war with East Asia, we have always been at war with East Asia” could possibly be lost on a populace told day in and day out that they were fighting Eurasia. I always thought that the citizens of that society might play along out of fear - but never actually fail to notice something was up.

I was clearly too optimistic about human nature.

One from the link:

A Soviet judge walks out of the courtroom, barely managing to suppress his wild laughter. A colleague asks, “What is it you are laughing about? “Well, I just heard a great joke,” the judge says. “A joke? Tell me!” “Are you crazy? I just sentenced a man to five years for that joke!”

Old Soviet hunting joke:

- We are not deer! We are not deer!
The old hunter notices the hunters, takes aim at them and mumbles:
- Shut up, deer!

Actually, it’s much worse than that. Once you believe something, you tend to disregard evidence to the contrary and believe things that confirm it (i.e. confirmation bias).

So once you believe that government is evil, that taxes are higher than anywhere else, etc. it doesn’t matter what you listen to, you just hear the things you already believe.

On his trip to the Soviet Union, President Kennedy saw many drunks. He asked Breznyev about it. Surprised Breznyev replied “…and there are no drunks in the US, in NYC?” “No” answered Kennedy. “When you come to NYC, you may shoot first three drunks you see.” After 6 months, Breznyev came to NYC, and walked out of the Soviet embassy. He shot first three drunks he saw, and came back, and went to sleep. When he waked up next day, he read in the New York Times “A bald, short gangster shot three employees of the Soviet embassy.”

Very anecdotal here, but recently a football blog, profootballtalk.com reported on a story of Fox Sports fabricating headlines about Jay Cutler during a broadcast.

Now, I’m a huge football fan and have been a posting member on a few football websites. Generally speaking the commenters on these sites tend to be more of the Tea Party persuasion. My theory on this has always been that the demographic of people who post on these websites would tend to be older, whiter, and more male than the general population which fits in with the Tea Party demographic. Needless to say I was pretty shocked at the comments in that story just ripping apart Fox News for what they really are.

My point is, I get the feeling that the general public is beginning to see Fox News for what it is. I think the phone hacking scandal has contributed to that feel, but I’m thinking that after 3 straight years of bashing the President over everything, no matter what that the public is beginning to catch on to what Fox News really is. I could be wrong about that….I know their ratings are still killer (relatively speaking) but I just get the feeling that they really are being exposed for what they are.

On that note…..Charles please keep posting these Fox headline stories. Other than being extremely entertaining, I think pointing out this type of nonsense on a consistent basis really is making a difference

If it falls apart, how will the RV owners in Michigan get to Florida for winter vacations? I swear every RV I saw on I-75 had MI plates, heading south. Strangely, I don’t recall seeing many driving south. Where’d they all go?
