Ry Cooder: No Banker Left Behind

They counted all our money
Music • Views: 23,418

This is the opening track from Ry Cooder’s incredible new record Pull Up Some Dust And Sit Down, an overtly political statement right in tune with the times.

Youtube Video

My telephone rang one evening my buddy called for me
Said the bankers are all leaving you better come ‘round and see
It’s a startling revelation they robbed the nation blind
They’re all down at the station no banker left behind.

No banker, no banker, no banker could I find.
They were all down at the station, no banker left behind

Well the bankers called a meetin’ to the White House they went one day
They was going to call on the president in a quiet and a sociable way
The afternoon was sunny and the weather it was fine
They counted all our money and no banker was left behind

No banker, no banker, no banker could I find
They were all down at the White House, no banker was left behind

Well I hear the whistle blowin’, it plays a happy tune
The conductor’s callin’ all aboard we’ll be leavin’ soon
With champagne and shrimp cocktails and that’s not all you’ll find
There’s a billion dollar bonus and no banker left behind

No banker, no banker, no banker could I find.
When the train pulled out next mornin’, no banker was left behind
No banker, no banker, no banker could I find.
When the train pulled out next mornin’, no banker was left behind

Here’s an Amazon MP3 widget with more samples; this is just a great album, both musically and lyrically. Highly recommended.

I'm absolutely filled with enthusiasm for it...or still stuffed from dinner, can't quite tell which.

I'm actually kind of dreading it. The Republican candidates were really funny for a while but now they're starting to scare me. One of them could be the next president.

Not really. But the opportunity to watch these ass hats self destruct does have an oddly appealing allure. Kind of sort of watching a train wreck in progress. Sickening, but fasinating at the same time.

I just eat this stuff up to be honest. These debates are like the superbowl for me. Or at least the playoffs of some sport. There isn't a single candidate in either party I have much faith in, so its a depressing state of affairs whatever happens. But I enjoy the spectacle and I enjoy watching the republicans scramble.

If anything, I think these debates have already served a purpose. Without them, Bachmann or Perry would have had a chance to build up more of a following, rivaling or even surpassing Romney for the nomination going into the primaries.

Now? The debates have turned Bachmann's candidacy into a hollow shell of its former self and tonight's may be the killing blow for Perry's own campaign. At the very least, this means a very divided field that will yield a lackluster nominee come next year.

25 Wozza Matter?  Tue, Oct 11, 2011 4:49:28pm

The antidote to tonight's debate stupidity.

Just got done watching Michael Frayne's play Copenhagen, where he imagines a conversation between Bohr and Heisenberg.

Bohr -

"We put man back at the centre of the universe. Throughout history we keep finding ourselves displaced. We keep exiling ourselves to the periphery of things. First we turn ourselves into a mere adjunct of God's unknowable purposes, tiny figures kneeling in the great cathedral of creation. And no sooner have we recovered ourselves in the Renaissance, no sooner has man become, as Protagoras proclaimed him, the measure of all things, than we're pushed aside again by the products of our own reasoning!- We're dwarfed again as physicists build the great new cathedrals for us to wonder at - the laws of classical mechanics that predate us from the beginning of eternity, that will survive us to eternity's end, that exist whether we exist or not. Until we come to the beginning of the twentieth century, and we're suddenly forced to rise from our knees again."

I really don't think that's the democratic base. That's really, really not the impression I got when I was there.

Prepping for the debate...just made some home-made shake-n-bake chicken (panko, chili powder, garlic, white pepper, etc.) and poured myself a Manhattan. What I really want, though, is a big fat doobie. It's been a stressful week at work and I finally started the process of writing up this asshole who works for me...even though another manager told me he was interviewing with other companies...guy's such a prick anyone who hires him would be crazy...still, I hope someone does before I have to fire him...would make my life easier, and they'd discover fast enough that he won't work out. Still...a dankity nugget of sticky goodness right now would be lovely.

I don't care so much who they march with, but the fact that any portion of the Dem base is buying into the "both sides are bad" bullshit is disquieting to say the least. With the Republicans making it harder for the poor and students to vote across the country while firing up their own base, any lack of enthusiasm among the Dem base for their own brand does not bode well.

Apparently, the left-leaning sane folks haven't utterly repudiated and marginalized the WCW/ANSWER types fast enough for KT's taste (which the batshit-crazy moonbats should be sidelined ASAP, if only to take some of the fire out of the more insane RWNJ "OMFG Communists!!11ty" conspiracies).

Never mind that the more virulent RWNJs have their hooks firmly entrenched in the TPGOP, something that couldn't be said of the moonbat groups and the Democratic Party (at least that I can see). Hell, the RW and RR kooks are driving the bus, setting the tone of official GOP policy positions and their presidential candidates.
