My dad and the neighbor's dad would grab a couple of beers each, and walk with us around the neighborhood. We got to figure out a costume, dress up funny, and we'd get more candy in one night than we had access to for the entire rest of the year. Everybody would be out. Weather would be great. Loved Halloween. Loved it. What's not to like?

Halloween was great as a kid, we didn't have all the rules they have now. Like having to be inside by the time it get's dark. We waited until dark to start!

As an adult I hate it. The kids have to be in by dark, which means you have to entertain them.

We used to live across from the beach parking lot. They had two dumpsters there for everyone to dump their Christmas tree. And every year the kids would set the things on fire. Huge fire, fire station was 1 block away. Routine.

Ok, where did everyone go?

When I was growing up, they would put giant plastic Christmas statues, like 20-30ft tall deals down the middle of the main shopping street down town. For about 10 years, it was a tradition that sometime between Christmas and New Years, Santa would get stolen and end up somewhere else in town. My neighbors woke up one morning with a 30' ft Santa staring in their front window.

Helpful hint: See something you want to steal but don't want the locals to agro? Look at the item, press Z. You'll pick it up without putting it into your inventory. Carry it into another room, drop it, hide and you can steal it without getting into a fight.

Eisenhower had a 73% approval based on 3 polls. The obama number is based on 90 polls. Just 8 years ago the Bush number was based on only 7. Why the massive increase? Did part of the stimulus package go towards new polling companies?

I see it differently. Perry has a chance imo because he appeals to such a wide swath of dumb bigots, of which US conservatism and the GOP has no shortage of. This county almost died after GM went down in flames the first time (late 70's early 80's). To make up for the loss of tax money they really clamped down on minor alcohol crimes. Arrest a guy, put him on probation where he has to pay fee's, and then arrest him again when he does something minor that violates his probation and start the cycle all over again. What it has managed to do is take a bunch of guys that have alcohol problems and put them on the street where they can't get a drivers license or a job. Before the folks retired we always had a group of guys working there from the Christian Center and work-release.

MITCHELL, Ind. (WISH) - A random text message asking if someone wanted to buy methamphetamine landed in a retired police officer’s inbox and landed a man in jail on several felonies.

Wednesday afternoon, the retired officer received the text asking if he’d like to buy meth or heroin, Indiana State Police officials say. An ISP trooper began using the retired officer’s phone to set up a meeting with the person trying to sell the drugs.

When police arrived at the arranged location, officers smelled an odor that indicated a meth lab was in use, ISP officials say.

Inside the garage of the home, police say they found Carlis James Vincent, 34, and a 16-year-old making meth. Seven other children — ages 2 to 15 — were in the home.

Officers found meth, heroin, marijuana and other drug-related items at the home.

One of the machine shops I have dealt with for years had a similar issue with one of the family members that runs the shop. He was already on probation for meth production (he used their equipment to fabricate an elaborate setup. It took the cops a week to get it apart.) when a couple of kids broke in his house looking for drugs. He called the cops who wanted to know what he had in a big safe in the living room. “The banks aren’t doing it, but the federal government can borrow money at three-and-a-half percent today. They should use that money to refinance every home mortgage, and that would put $750 billion into homeowners pockets,” he said. “It would reset the economy, and I think it’s the one thing that would most quickly get this economy back on its feet.”

Moran said that the plan “doesn’t cost any federal money. The people who are opposed to it are the Wall Street investment banks, the ones that we bailed out for hundreds of billions of dollars,” he added. “The federal government could do that because most of these loans are now owned by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.”

This might come as a shock but I could have been talked into supporting something like this 3 years ago because I think Moran has a point. I think he's crazy about it not costing any federal money but we spent $3T in bailouts (more than $1.5T in TARP and the stimulus package alone), $750B sounds like a steal.

We would have been a Catholic Cult except for one thing--it's very hard to get out of a cult, and it was very hard to stay in an old seminary. There were 65 of us in my HS freshman class, and only 5 were left when I split. Two of them are archbishops now.

NEW YORK – An "Occupy Wall Street" protester who scaled a 40-foot-high steel art exhibit in Lower Manhattan early Saturday said he will not come down until Mayor Michael Bloomberg has resigned, Fox News Channel reported.

Hostage negotiators were talking to the man, whose said his name is Dylan, more than two hours after he climbed the orange exhibit at the entrance to the group's Zuccotti Park base.

Police and emergency medical service units were also on standby while the street was shut down, WABC reported.

OWS Protester Climbs Down from Sculpture

An Occupy Wall Street protester has finally come down from the 70-foot sculpture where he had camped out for two hours Saturday morning.

There is heavy police presence in the Lower Manhattan area near the park as police attempt to coax down the man, identified as Dylan Farenhorst Spaelstra of Canada.

A friend of Farenhorst told NBC New York the protester was handed a citation from police for public urination early Saturday morning.

So, unfortunately, there is no easy out. Perhaps the best chance would be to find a way to get ahead of the mortgage defaults—that is, to have restructurings and debt forgiveness, albeit with some kind of quid pro quo. That is very hard to do. But if there were a way to write down and forgive some of the mortgage debt, that would be money well spent.

When I see the OWS protestors I'm reminded of this quote.

Webb has argued that changes are long overdue - the United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world, the bill notes, and half of prisoners will return to prison within three years of release. A disproportionately large share of minorities are behind bars.

"It is time for us to move forward to get the comprehensive advice of the best minds in America in terms of how to fix our broken criminal justice system," Webb said in a floor speech before the vote. He noted that more than 70 organizations, including law enforcement groups and civil liberty organizations, have endorsed the project.

A majority of senators supported Webb's amendment, 57-43, but it fell three votes short of the 60 needed to be added to a spending bill.

Webb blamed Republicans for blocking the legislation and vowed after the vote to keep pressing for the commission.

"Their inflammatory arguments defy reasonable explanation and were contradicted by the plain language of our legislation," Webb said in a prepared statement. "To suggest, for example, that the nonbinding recommendations of a bipartisan commission threaten the Constitution is absurd."

All the Senate Democrats, including Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, and four Republicans supported the bill.
