Rick Perry, Birther

Donald Trump got him a-thinkin’ about it
Wingnuts • Views: 35,171

It’s the right wing delusion that absolutely refuses to die.

Rick Perry tells Parade Magazine that after having dinner with Donald Trump, he’s suddenly “undecided” whether President Obama is really an American citizen.

Governor, do you believe that President Barack Obama was born in the United States?
I have no reason to think otherwise.

That’s not a definitive, “Yes, I believe he”—
Well, I don’t have a definitive answer, because he’s never seen my birth certificate.

But you’ve seen his.
I don’t know. Have I?

You don’t believe what’s been released?
I don’t know. I had dinner with Donald Trump the other night.

And?
That came up.

And he said?
He doesn’t think it’s real.

And you said?
I don’t have any idea. It doesn’t matter. He’s the President of the United States. He’s elected. It’s a distractive issue.

Who knows whether Perry really buys this racist paranoia himself — but he definitely recognizes its appeal to a right wing base that’s utterly disconnected from reality.

I think he really is just that stupid. Because wink-winking on this issue but at the same time saying that it doesn't matter and Obama is still a legitimate President doesn't really make him more popular for the teabaggers - they want some birther-based action.

Governor, you made the news last year when you said you were out jogging in Austin with your daughter’s puppy, and you came across a coyote that was threatening your dog. Did you really shoot it like you said you did?
Yes, ma’am. One shot right in the shoulder.

You saw him drop, but did he die?

Yeah, right there.

So how come there’s been so much controversy over it? For example, some people have said it’s simply not possible to jog and carry a gun at the same time.
One guy from upstate New York said [it couldn’t have happened because] “coyotes would run away.” Come to Austin. I’ll show you coyotes that will come and get in your backyard and eat your little puppy.

You start out in 1954 by saying, "Nigg*r, nigg*r, nigg*r." By 2011 you can't say "nigg*r" — that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like birth certificate, states' rights and all that stuff. -- Lee Atwater

I will at least remind everyone that Mitt Romney had the good sense to stay away from the evangelical confab in Iowa. Honestly, i'd have to say he made the right call. In that environment, he'd spend more time defending his religion against charges he isn't a real Christian than he would talking policy.

In his address to Libyans raising the tricolor flags that have emerged as a symbol of their revolt, Abdel Jalil urged “forgiveness and reconciliation” and struck an Islamic tone when speaking of the post-Qaddafi Libya. ‘

‘We, as an Islamic state, have adopted the Islamic Shariah as the main source of legislation,” he said. “As such, any law that runs contrary to the Islamic principles of the Islamic Shariah is legally void.”

He said the country’s new leadership is seeking to establish Islamic banks that ban the payment of interest. Charging interest “brings about diseases and creates hatred,” he said.

McConnell: Not My Job To Prevent Firefighter, Police Layoffs

Senate Republicans, joined by three conservative members of the Democratic caucus, defeated that $35 billion package last week, which aimed to hire or retain teachers and emergency responders. And Democrats will surely trumpet their recalcitrance as we head into 2012.

Yet McConnell spun the issue in a different light, telling Crowley that saving emergency responders from unemployment shouldn’t be a federal responsibility because we can’t afford “to be bailing out states.”

No, its obviously much more important to bail out the companies which pay the lobbyists.

I was working last Sunday when the IndyCar race was going on and I didn't catch it, as well as the news of Wheldon's tragic death, until I got home, sat down and turned on a NHRA race on to relax a bit and Tony Schumacher, driver of a Top Fuel dragster, talked about Wheldon and the tragedy at Las Vegas, and that prompted me to look online and saw the news of his death. Just very, very unfortunate.

There were quite a few "secular" places or at least western tolerant in the middle east prior to the US intervening because we didn't like who the people elected (IRAN is case in point numero uno). Atheist comment controversy

In March 2011 Walsh stated on CNN, "Most studies on survivors show that the atheists die first because if you don't believe in something supernatural, how can you imagine that you yourself have supernatural abilities enough to survive?"[8] This comment elicited strong criticism from the atheist community.

Walsh later clarified that she meant survivorship in medical situations rather than situations involving imminent danger, stating "I don’t believe in magic, nor do I think that God is this giant cop in the sky or ground control for our lives."

Right now I'm thinking about Mark Twain, opinions, and assholes. ;)

my point is, if thats the case don't say anything.

It's a man up or shut up thing.

Then how would you know that "thats the case"??

178 Gus  Sun, Oct 23, 2011 3:37:01pm

More brain dead wingnut fun on atheism.

The atheist agenda refers to an extensive ideology and programme, common to avowed atheists.

“Atheism has long ceased to be a rare and oft-ignored philosophical outlook...It has transformed itself into an active political programme with clear objectives which, though they vary from state to state, unequivocally include the elimination of state religion, religious education, and the enshrinement of scientism. - Gordon Stein[1] ”

It involves the following objectives:

1. Removing Creation Science from curricula and outlawing its teaching in schools
2. Outlawing personal religion in schools under the guise of "separation of church and state"
3. Indoctrinating atheistic and evolutionary ideology through the education system, and thus the public at large
4. Undermining Christianity and other organized religion through widespread misinformation and deceit

Or my favorite from the same link:

Adolf Hitler employed many atheism-promoting tactics that would later be adopted by modern Western atheists.

Really? Seriously?

Because it's pointless. Like debating antisemitism with David Duke or racial sensitivity with RS McCain. It's a complete waste of time.

Norman is an absolutely lost case by now (and I've been looking at his site for years - I swear he wasn't that ugly, going about "Jewish Nazis" and defending Hezbollah), which doesn't mean that all those who find good points in his books are antisemites. But they better wise up pretty soon.

Well, yeah, just as I don't think that anybody who posts a link to "Israel National News" is a Kahane-loving, ethnic-cleansing-endorsing neofascist, I don't presume that anyone mentioning Finky positively is a Hezbollah-loving Jew-hating neo-fascist.

Obdi is great on the Brad thread.

Heh, I was watching him and imagining a boxing ring where he comes trotting in wearing violet colored trunks (like his avatar) and wearing a violet satin robe with a green dragon embroidered on the back:

Emcee: Annnnd in this corner, the reigning LGF heavyweight champ, Obicut!

[The Lizards in the audience stand up in their seats and cheer wildly. They're holding bags of something...when anyone boos, they start hissing and open their bags and—look!—they pull out handfuls of little red tiles with minus symbols on them and start throwing them at the boo-ers.]

Bell rings: *DING, DING, DING*

[The Lizards glare at boo-ers, flip them off for good measure, and then sit back down with their popcorn & beverage of choice. Obidcut moves in with steady determination and starts swinging.]

I hope Brad realizes that he may have to go a full 15 rounds or more...

// Sorry, my overactive imagination kicked in again, heh.

That which we call a birther, by any other name, would still be an irrational, TFH-wearing bigot living in a state of denial.

Every time a birther is shown a web link to, or hard copy of Obama's official birth certificate (you know, the one that is recognized by the federal government when applying for a passport) -- long form, short form, … take your pick, they pull the equivalent of a 9-year old covering his ears and shouting "nyah, nyah, nyah, I can't hear you!"

You can lead right wingers to the truth, but you cannot make them embrace it.

You have to look at the motivations of the majority of the birthers to understand why they simply cannot "let go". Fundamentally, it comes down to the following mindset: "I cannot accept THAT man in the White House because.... (fill in the blank)."

Just about ANY reason will do -- any excuse that will legitimize their bigotry-based outrage. If it wasn't about a birth certificate, it would be about his middle name. (He's a closet Muslim, you know.)

In addition, there are a handful of unscrupulous politicians (enter Mr. Perry), wannabe politicians (hello, Mr. Trump) and bellicose pundits who, although not necessarily racists themselves, have no problem capitalizing on the bigotry of others by fueling their fear and hatred of Obama in order to score political points or further a personal agenda.
