Herman Cain Suddenly Remembers More Details of Sexual Harassment Complaints

“They were so ridiculous, I don’t remember what they are”
Wingnuts • Views: 20,835

The squirming and revising of stories is becoming almost painful to watch: Herman Cain now recalls ‘couple of other’ items in accuser’s complaint.

Herman Cain once again revised his account of the sexual harassment allegations he battled in the 1990s, saying in a TV interview he recalled there were additional “ridiculous” items in his accuser’s complaint, beyond the single incident he detailed Monday.

Cain said in Monday television appearances that he could remember only one specific incident in his accuser’s complaint. He described that episode again to Headline News this morning, saying it involved “putting my hand under my chin, standing near this lady, saying, ‘Oh, you’re the same height as my wife.’”

But this time, Cain went on to say that there had been “a couple of other things” in the complaint filed during his time at the National Restaurant Association, though he claimed not to remember the specifics.

The complaint concerned “the gesture with the height thing and there were a couple of other things in there that I found absolutely ridiculous,” Cain said, as HLN’s Robin Meade cut in asking him what “ridiculous” things he was referring to.

“I don’t even remember. They were so ridiculous, I don’t remember what they are,” Cain said.

If it got settled, and the women are enjoined against giving details, why the hell is he giving details?

It’s over. Romney wins.

Time of death of Cain candidacy: 1:10pm EST.

3 makeitstop  Tue, Nov 1, 2011 10:10:08am

This is becoming standard operating procedure in Cain’s campaign - say something outrageous or stupid, then keep revising the statement until the media just gives up on getting a straight answer. He’s issued 5 different positions (so far) on abortion and six different revisions of the sexual harassment story.

Even the centerpiece of his campaign - the ridiculous 9-9-9 plan - has been revised a number of times on the fly.

It’s obvious at this point that Cain has pretty much no experience with having people call him on his BS. All those years in the corporate world have got him believing that if he says something, that’s the end of it.

He really ran a successful business this way? I’m finding that increasingly difficult to believe.

Because he realizes that if he says “It was settled, and I’m not permitted to discuss this,” no matter how innocent he may be, he’ll look guilty as heck.

You would think that there would be a college course (or some kind of class) for politicians (and wannabe politicians) on how to deal with scandals.

This is PR 101.

You will be taught how to successfully manage and get ahead of potential scandals and skeletons in your closet.

Yet it seems that no one knows when and how to call in the PR guys (or take their advice) to quit while they’re behind. Get ahead of the story by putting out the details instead of dripping it out and giving a scandal legs by denying, denying, denying, and then starting to admit bits and pieces, which only encourages more info to come out later.

Had Cain come out and admitted that there was something, that it happened, that a payment was made but no admission of wrongdoing - that this was a business decision on cost-benefit, it might have stayed in the news for a day or two and that’s it. Now? It’s going to be on the news cycle for far longer - and other scandals will only add to the malaise.

6 Simply Sarah  Tue, Nov 1, 2011 10:11:37am

OK, yeah. There’s basically no doubt left in my mind that he harassed these women and probably others. I’ve seen this slow drip memory bullshit too many times to not see the writing on the wall.

If, somehow, there really isn’t some real substance behind all this, his campaign is doing their best to sure make it seem like there is.

7 Decatur Deb  Tue, Nov 1, 2011 10:12:02am

This is painful, to surrender all his dignity with no realistic chance of ever grasping power. Go teach kids how to start small businesses.

As a rule, corporate lawyers don’t give five-figure payouts to people making “ridiculous” accusations to keep them quiet.

If Herman Cain had been upfront with this from the beginning or mentioned it a while back this would blow over fairly quickly. By switching stories many times within the past 24 hours doesn’t sit well with a lot of people. This is going to kill his chances.

The atmosphere of so many just desperately wanting this to blow up big with all the salacious details is palpable. If it turns out to be extremely minor or a bogus claim that garnered a few bucks the disappointment will be resounding. M S Media, many here, the GOP contenders. In some quarters it looks like starving dogs. Starving for ratings.

I’ve got no proof to back it up, but I’m getting the feeling that Cain thinks he knows better than his staff, and has told them ‘I’ve got this.’

Either that, or he doesn’t have anyone with any PR experience, or the ones he does have are under directions to ‘speak only when spoken to.’

Nein - 9 - 9 plan.

Nine denials, nine variations (flip-flops) on what actually happened - wait 9 days for the media to move onto the next issue.

14 garhighway  Tue, Nov 1, 2011 10:19:06am

I spent some time yesterday on the Real Clear Politics site (which is an interesting place, to say the least) and the 90% posters on the Cain news had this to say:

“Liberal media! Clinton was worse! We love Cain! Politico is a bunch of commies!”

Not one of them could focus on what a mess Cain had made of this situation. Not one.

19 Gus  Tue, Nov 1, 2011 10:20:56am

Herman Cain has single-handedly managed to blow up this story upon himself. Had he been straight with the public from the beginning it would have had less of an impact. As it stands now this is no longer a question of what occurred regarding the sexual harassment complaints at the NRA but one of truthfulness and he is coming off as a very dishonest man. Cain’s candidacy is done and he is finished.

re: #12 makeitstop

He could be falling into the same trap as Weiner did - thinking he knows better than anyone else how to contain the mess, and ignoring the need for a PR guy to do the cleanup/walkback/containment.

Bad judgment compounding bad judgment.

And that’s if nothing actually happened and the payments were nuisance amounts.

Somehow, I think that the actions went beyond comparing heights of the woman to his wife and may have reflected on how shapely the woman may have been.

21 thatthatisis  Tue, Nov 1, 2011 10:22:47am

In my experience, no man who has committed sexual harassment ever realizes he did, or understands why it was a problem. “I was just being nice” or “all I did was comment on how good she looked”, or - my all time favorite - “”She can’t take a joke”.

No, but they do to settle such matters to end the process costs. which is why this was such a self-inflicted wound for Cain. All he had to say was: “At the NRA, as at all other large organizations, they had employment-related matters from time to time, and their policy was to settle them in the manner most advantageous to the enterprise. Such settlements reflect only the organization’s desire to terminate the matter and nothing about the merits. And pursuant to the terms of the deal, both the candidate and the NRA are prohibited from commenting further.”

Such a statement would have been simple and true.

Now, I think there’s also a lot of ego and privilege and other nonsense that factors in to the choice, but I think part of the reasoning, valid or not, of people in these situation is that if they just DENY DENY DENY, there’s a chance it will all just go away. And sometimes, it does. Just that when it doesn’t, it tends to be made much worse.

THis is his campaign manager, from the article Charles posted yesterday:

For decades, Block worked behind the scenes for several conservative candidates and causes in Wisconsin. He is best known in the state for his role as campaign manager for former state Supreme Court Justice Jon Wilcox in 1997. Accused of election law violations, Block settled the case by agreeing to pay a $15,000 fine and to stay out of Wisconsin politics for three years.

He wouldn’t know good advice if it bit him near the cigarette area.

He’ll eventually say that the women were extorting the restaurant association for money, after which they will come out, with Gloria Allred representing them. The whole fu@#ing mess will turn into a tabloid goat screw. He’ll go up in the polls, and Romney will be toast. Liberals will get blamed and Politico will end up moving their coverage farther to the right in order to mollify their critics.

Left out of the whole incident will be any discussion of any of his positions which are by any reasonable standard, crazy bad.

I’ve actually had a couple of weird experiences with men who seem to feel that discussing how much they love their wife or girlfriend’s body, or personality, or actions, to you isn’t sexually aggressive, because they’re talking about another woman, who they are legitimately allowed to ogle. It doesn’t even need to get graphic, it’s just the tone and the body language. re: #64 SanFranciscoZionist

I just find it odd that when you’re applying for a job, you can’t use your spouse for a character reference, but when you’re accused of sexual misbehavior, it’s perfectly normal to drag them out and make them talk about how nice you are.

There’s not much logic to it, really. I suppose the difference is that you can get away with it in the latter case, but not the former.

72 kirkspencer  Tue, Nov 1, 2011 10:41:15am

Paraphrasing what Lidane wrote last thread, the RNC is down to four choices, all of them nightmares.

Cain’s raising money hand over fist from the “anybody but Romney” wingnuts, who appear to be the majority of the party. Romney’s got the (current) plurality and old guard money but is despised by the majority.

So:
1) See Cain win and watch Obama stomp him (probably large enough to have large coat tails down ballot);
2) See Romney win and hope enough wingnuts will hold their noses and vote anyway instead of staying home OR supporting a third-party challenger;
3) Enjoy a working instead of celebratory convention.

Since I dislike all the Republican candidates I’ve got to admit I’m enjoying this - barring the small frisson of fear that one of them might actually win.

When I worked at EA in the QA department, I was goddamn horrified by the toleration of sexual harassment. I overheard one tester talking about this girl he’d had sex with, in graphic detail— I went over to cut it out and realized he was talking about another employee. What a fucker.

And the anti-gay shit; for being close to San Francisco, there was so much homophobia, so much “Faggot” and “Don’t be gay”. I should have sued, but I was never the target myself, and didn’t really realize I still could have effected change by doing so.

I would suspect that almost every woman here has been the victim of some sort of discomfort caused by harassment of this sort, at one time or another.

It has nothing to do with desire; and everything to do with power. It’s like a mild version of rape. It’s disgusting.

Yep! Both directed at them and as a third party. Some of the stuff I overheard from fellow CS majors who didn’t realize a woman was around made me question my field of study at times. Or, at least, college aged men.

In my work I’ve largely been lucky to have not run into it much, but outside of work, even with nominal friends, I’ve gotten plenty directed at me or women in general.

Online hackers threaten to expose cartel’s secrets
Group called Anonymous demands release of one of their own who was kidnapped

An international group of online hackers is warning a Mexican drug cartel to release one of its members, kidnapped from a street protest, or it will publish the identities and addresses of the syndicate’s associates, from corrupt police to taxi drivers, as well as reveal the syndicates’ businesses.

The vow is a bizarre cyber twist to Mexico’s ongoing drug war, as a group that has no guns is squaring off against the Zetas, a cartel blamed for thousands of deaths as well as introducing beheadings and other frightening brutality.

“You made a huge mistake by taking one of us. Release him,” says a masked man in a video posted online on behalf of the group, Anonymous.

“We cannot defend ourselves with a weapon … but we can do this with their cars, homes, bars, brothels and everything else in their possession,” says the man, who is wearing a suit and tie.

“It won’t be difficult; we all know who they are and where they are located,” says the man, who underlines the group’s international ties by speaking Spanish with the accent of a Spaniard while using Mexican slang.

He also implies that the group will expose mainstream journalists who are somehow in cahoots with the Zetas by writing negative articles about the military, the country’s biggest fist in the drug war.

“We are Wall Street” – Wall Street Strikes Back

Wall Street recently struck back by dropping leaflets on the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Here’s what the leaflets said:

“We are Wall Street. It’s our job to make money. Whether it’s a commodity, stock, bond, or some hypothetical piece of fake paper, it doesn’t matter. We would trade baseball cards if it were profitable. I didn’t hear America complaining when the market was roaring to 14,000 and everyone’s 401k doubled every 3 years. Just like gambling, it’s not a problem until you lose. I’ve never heard of anyone going to Gamblers Anonymous because they won too much in Vegas.

Well now the market crapped out, & even though it has come back some whatever, the government and the average Joes are still looking for a scapegoat. God knows there has to be one for everything. Well, here we are.

Go ahead and continue to take us down, but you’re only going to hurt yourselves. What’s going to happen when we can’t find jobs on the Street anymore? Guess what: We’re going to take yours. We get up at 4am and work till 10pm or later. We’re used to not getting up to pee when we have a position. We don’t take an hour or more for a lunch break. We don’t’ demand a union. We don’t retire at 50 with a pension. We eat what we kill, and when the only thing left to eat is on your dinner plates, we’ll eat that.

For years teachers and other unionized labor have had us fooled. We were too busy working to notice. Do you really think that we are incapable of teaching 3rd graders and doing landscaping? We’re going to take your cushy jobs with tenure and 4 months off a year whine just like you that we are so-o-o-o underpaid for building the youth of America. Say goodbye to your overtime and double time and half. I’ll be hitting grounders to the high school baseball team to $5k extra a summer, thank you very much. So now that we’re going to be making $8k a year without upside, Joe Main street is going to have his revenge right? Wrong! Guess what: we’re going to stop buying the new 80k car, we aren’t going to leave the 35 percent tip at our business dinners anymore. No more free rides on our backs. We’re going to landscape our own back yards, wash our cars with a garden hose in our driveways. Our money was your money. You spent it. When our money dries up, so does yours.

The difference is, you lived off of it, we rejoiced in it. The Obama administration and the Democratic National Committee might get their way and knock us off the top of the pyramid, but its really going to hurt like hell for them when our fat a**es land directly on the middle class of America and knock them to the bottom. We aren’t dinosaurs. We are smarter and more vicious than that, and we are going to survive. The question is, now that Obama & his administration are making Joe Main street our food supply…will he? And will they?”

Thing is, guys do have more of a responsibility to change, because they are currently in a position of privilege relative to women. But I agree that that’s a tough argument to sell to those guys at the bottom of the capitalist food-chain, who are unlikely to buy the notion that they are a privileged group.

Well, as men they have male privilege, but they can also suffer from being on losing end of things like class and race privilege. They too are oppressed, whether they fully understand the nature of it or not.

Oh, there weren’t kids around. Kids were only in one part of the building. And everyone involved was adults. It was just that kind of stupid stuff like “How is a vibrator better than a man” jokes. The female equivalent of “How beer is better than a woman”.

I think my favorite what the hell moment at that company was when, in a group meeting, everyone was told to say what profession they’d have liked to be in a bygone age. I said that I’d have liked to be a merchant on the Silk Road, experiencing the different cultures and having that fun sense of adventure. The next woman said she’d have loved to have been in Iceland in the 1400s, where women had more economic and political freedom. The next woman said:

“A french prostitute in the 17th century.”

Which is post-syphilis, but pre-penicillin, in addition to just being odd on other levels.

Not to mention that the seventeenth century is probably the lowest point of personal hygiene in Europe.

Apropos EA, Obdicut:

Germany in Flames Over EA’s Origin

We’ve already heard all the drama regarding EA’s Origin EULA, but Germany-based’s GameStar had a word with lawyer Thomas Schwenke regarding the validity of Origin’s German terms of service. Mr. Schwenke specializes in social media marketing, data protection and contract law, so suffice to say, he knows what he’s talking about.

Now, I don’t understand all the legal terms used in the article, as I am not knowledgeable about German law, but thankfully the article puts each explanation in layman’s terms. The gist of it is that Germany considers Origin spyware and the EULA having quite a few clauses which aren’t applicable in German court. For example, the main gripe, which you likely know is that Origin may monitor all your PC activity, doesn’t work as “the user doesn’t need to expect that by using an online platform, he has to give over all his PC data”.

From what I gather, most of the fallacies in the EULA boil down to German law not allowing hidden clauses and unclear terms, as well as anything that directly contradicts the law. An example of this is EA claiming that they will store userdata in the United States, EU and Asia, but also in “other countries”, which doesn’t work well with Germany’s data protection laws which state that the user must be informed in which countries his or her data will be stored.

I’m always amused by people who think gay people all act the same, too. I mean, the Abercrombie and Fitch zombies in the Castro may all look alike, but they do still have different opinions.

One of the more interesting experiences I had with a broad section of the gay male community, as opposed to individual people met in a bunch of ways, was getting signatures for Roberta Achtenberg’s mayoral run in the Castro.

One thing I found interesting was that my warmest reception was always from the big, hairy leathermen. The twink-types in the matching jeans and t-shirts were sometimes very cool to me, but the classic leathermen would always stop, talk, discuss ideas for the City, laugh over the Jesse Helms video. “Because she’s a damn lesbian!”

I wondered if when you look like a Tom of Finland illustration, you don’t have to be embarassed about talking to girls. No one will get the idea you’re straight.

I also wondered if it was because the men’s and women’s leather community overlaps more, so their interest in a lesbian candidate was higher. Really, no clue.

Japan lawmaker drinks water from Fukushima plant

A Japanese lawmaker has drunk a glass of water taken from a radioactive puddle inside a reactor building at the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant in a bid to prove decontamination efforts are working.

Television footage showed a visibly nervous Yasuhiro Sonoda gulping down water that he said had been decontaminated after being scooped up from inside the plant.

“Just drinking (decontaminated water) doesn’t mean safety has been confirmed, I know that,” Sonoda told reporters. “Presenting data to the public is the best way.”

Sonoda, parliamentary secretary for the cabinet office, said Monday that he drank the water after journalists repeatedly asked him to “prove” the area around the plant was safe.

Here we go:

The author of the ‘Wall Street as dinosaurs’ meme surfaces
Posted by Stacy-Marie Ishmael on May 05 17:05.

On April 30, FT Alphaville republished an email which had been doing the rounds of the various trading desks and Wall Street banks.

The contents of that email — which included the memorable line that Wall Street types were both smarter and more vicious than dinosaurs — has incited both outrage at the author’s “John Galt-ian insanity” and support for “finally telling it like it is.”

And on Wednesday, the author of the piece, which has been modified somewhat from its original form, emailed FT Alphaville to set the record straight:

The article I wrote was in Sept….now its all over the pace in different versions. Most just cut off the top to make their point that I am defending Wall Street. Which was not the entire point. My main focus was that the middle class was still going to get the short end of the stick in financial reform. That is why I finally wrote a follow up.

And here’s the original…

It’s some kind of spoof or now what it seems to be. I’m sort of multitasking now.

How Google is Making the Climate War Worse

Who hasn’t gotten exasperated with someone else’s ignorance about climate change? Haven’t you finally said: “look, you can just google it!”

But there turns out to be one big problem with just “googling” it. It depends on who you are.

So if last time you looked up climate change and chose to open something by, say, Marc Morano, then Senator Inhofe, and then the Drudge Report, which would all poo-poo climate change, google thinks, “oh, this moron likes denier news about climate change,” and next time, more of its top suggestions for your search will be skewed even further to the right.

As you keep heading further into la-la land, Google is there, holding your hand, assuring you that indeed, this is the objective, google-able truth. Two people with different search histories get two entirely different sets of google “facts” for the identical search terms.

The problem is that science-based types, who click on the fact-laden science-based pdfs from the EPA and reports from the WRI and studies from NOAA – and then get more of these kinds of results; assume that’s what everyone sees when they just “google” it, but there is no one objective science-based google.

Google has become like a good but unobtrusive butler, that always obsequiously aims to please, by always giving you more and more of what you liked last time. Ultimately, as a result, we are now all living in what we believe to be the objective, self-evidently google-able truth. And we are not.

I think this is why the broader queer community tends to be far more marginalized when compared to people simply being ‘gay’ or ‘lesbian’ or even bi. Even fewer stereotypes can be built up and applied there and I think that makes people extra uncomfortable. We seem to like placing people into nice, simple buckets.

Taylor Swift May Sue Over Nude Photo Scandal

Life isn’t always a fairytale for pop-country princess Taylor Swift, who is considering suing celebrity website Celeb Jihad for posting an alleged topless photo of her.

The 21-year-old crossover superstar is assuring fans that she is not the girl in the photo, which shows an underwear-clad young blonde who resembles Swift. The accompanying story’s headline reads, “Taylor Swift Topless Private Pic Leaked?”

According to TMZ, Swift and her lawyers are threatening to sue the website for trademark infringement if the photo is not taken down. The singer’s reps penned a letter to Celeb Jihad saying that the post was based on “false pornographic images and false ‘news.’”

In a statement to E! News, a spokesperson for Celeb Jihad confirmed the legal threat, adding that the site would remove the picture—if the singer agrees to convert to Islam. Needless to say, the photo remains.

So my cousin bought a computer from the estate of one of his mothers friends. Dual core 64 bit processors, 4 gigs of ram, Nvidia graphics, etc, etc… state of the art for back then and extremely pricey. Some relative of the previous owner took the computer to remove all the personal information from it before it was sold by the estate.

He wiped everything, and I do mean everything, every program, and almost every single driver. I found that out yesterday when he had me try to connect it to the internet. No modem drivers, no ethernet drivers, device manager was mostly just a long line of yellow question marks with generic “PCI Device” or whatever after them.

I took it home last night and tracked down the missing drivers, burned them to disc, and installed them successfully after a bit of trial and error over the installation order. Once I got it online no problems at all, not one failed update or program install, and the thing is fast, 10 times faster than his existing computer and almost as fast as my newest windows 7 machine.

One problem, I’m still missing every single factory installed program, I have downloaded and replaced pretty much everything except of course for Word/Office, now I’m stuck. The manufacturer says they cannot sell me back-up discs for the original programs since the warranty is expired. God knows where the original back-up discs are, probably in a landfill somewhere, so I have a perfectly working fast computer to return to my cousin but with absolutely no word processing programs installed…sigh. :(

Any suggestions?

Open Office?

It ain’t Microsoft, but it’ll get you in the ball park, and it’s free.

Israel: Army has green light to stop Gaza rockets

JERUSALEM — Israel has authorized its military to take all necessary steps to stop rocket fire from Gaza, including a ground operation, an Israeli military official said Tuesday, as Egypt worked on a truce and said Israel had agreed to delay stepping up its response.

The Israeli government decision stopped well short of ordering tanks to roll into Gaza, and it appeared unlikely that would happen, as rocket fire all but stopped over the past day. The official said the decision authorized the military to act in accordance with the severity of Palestinian attacks, meaning that a ground offensive would be ordered only after massive rocket fire.

The Israeli official spoke on condition of anonymity because no statement was made.

this kind of “proof” goes way back

On October 30, 1924, Midgley [the inventor of “leaded” gasoline] participated in a press conference to demonstrate the apparent safety of TEL. In this demonstration, he poured TEL over his hands, then placed a bottle of the chemical under his nose and inhaled its vapor for sixty seconds, declaring that he could do this every day without succumbing to any problems whatsoever.[3][6] However, the State of New Jersey ordered the Bayway plant to be closed a few days later, and Jersey Standard was forbidden to manufacture TEL there again without state permission. Midgley himself was careful to avoid mentioning to the press that he required nearly a year to recover from the lead poisoning brought on by his demonstration at the press conference

Yes, especially since collateral damage does, indeed, exist. Innocent people do get killed. Israel has absolutely every right to defend herself against attack, even though it may mean that non-terrorists get caught in the crossfire, but using language that dehumanizes is a step in the wrong direction.

Ah yes…

Brian James Hellwig - Motivational speaking and writing

Warrior formally retired from wrestling in 1999 and had a short-lived career as a conservative speaker and commentator, partnering with conservative spokesman Daniel Pinheiro, denouncing left-wing politics. In one instance, he mentioned that “queering doesn’t make the world work” during a speech at the University of Connecticut. Warrior explained those comments on his website as meaning that the human race would die out if everyone were a homosexual.

Writing

In May 1996, Warrior began publishing a comic book, titled Warrior, featuring himself as the main character. The series was co-written with Jim Callahan and illustrated by the Sharp Brothers. The title sold well for the first two months, before sales slowed down. The comic was canceled in early 1997.

Warrior maintains a blog on his personal website titled “Warrior’s Machete”, where he discusses his personal life, his personal views on politics, sexuality, patriotism, and his legacy as a wrestler, amongst other topics. There have been numerous instances where Warrior has used his blog to address his viewpoint on members of his wrestling past (Vince McMahon, Hulk Hogan, Lex Luger); historical figures (Martin Luther King, George Washington, Jesus). Warrior depicts celebrities who were newsworthy at the time of his blog (Heath Ledger and Paris Hilton). He has also used the blog to post replies to letters from fans.

Let’s see if I understand this correctly. Or should I say, let’s see if I can get to anywhere near a “correct understanding” of this piece of nonsense by, first, understanding it sensically using political-incorrectness?

Martin marched a few times from Selma, AL to Montgomery, AL. It’s only about 40 miles and he walked along paved roads with security escorts and modern comforts and conveniences. He wrote a few jailhouse letters, plagiarized a great many speeches, and played up his last name “King” as if he was ONE. He led his best rally amid the monuments of Washington, DC. He preached proper, righteous behavior while he at the same time committed adultery many publicly verifiable times — oh, and he had “a dream.” One to see a race of people freed completely from discriminate oppression.

The man certainly has opinions.

Yes he does:

Who is “they”? Who is “he”? You first think it is a soldier, right? Wrong, “them” is “horses,” and “he” is Barbaro. ABC’s Good Morning America lead with the “sad” story of him being euthanized. The story ran exactly 9 and one-half minutes. The next story was about the war in Iraq. The coverage lasted 1 minute and not one second had anything to do with, “We measure [them] by the courage and character they have, the resolve they show…he had the heart, determination, and the bravery he showed while under such challenging circumstances was so admirable…” No, the whole segment was all to do with the “resolve” the insurgents have. Ladies and gentleman, and 12 year old transsexuals, our-enemies-within are inspiring a future world where we humans will soon be out to pasture, as we will fondly remember was once done to the real beasts, not the rational animals. I’m looking forward to it, actually. Being a full-time Stud living a life of leisure and pleasure might not be so bad after all.

and

Even by radical liberal skewed standards, there are 37 million in poverty, at poverty, below poverty…whatever, claiming to be down and out financially. To make the point I want to here, it really doesn’t matter what description you choose or even what number, pump it up by 3 times. Go ahead. At that number we are talking 100 million people, let’s say, for the sake of this poignant point I want to make. That’s 1/3 of the US population. My question, with all the guilt-ridden concern these liberal socialists have, why don’t they step up and cure poverty, themselves? Oprah doesn’t have $37 million, 100 million? Oh, that’s right. She has it but only for her racist ventures in Africa, like the school only for less fortunate black girls; what, there aren’t less fortunate white girls? asian girls? swedish girls? russian girls? She can’t get Bono, Madonna, Warren Beatty, Brad Jolina and Angie Pitt, and George Clooney and all the other harebrained entertainment millionaires to grasp the simple math? Together they can save the World from everything!! Hell, just buy Africa! Build your own Country. Why don’t they? What about brilliant, wealthy people who are very good at math? People like Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. They invest money and build computers — what, they don’t have a $2 calculator to do the math? They don’t have the money between just the two of them to simply hand over the pocket cash and cure poverty in this country, maybe the whole World, once and for all?

Lots of pablum for wingnuts there.

Cousin works for the TSA now so he needs “Word” the Federal government (or at least his branch) does not except documents in any other format. As I said in my original post the manufacturer will not even sell me back-up disks for the original programs because the warranty has expired (thanks Microsoft, thanks a lot :p).

Buying a new copy of Office 2010 makes no sense either because for that price you could get it bundled for free with a brand new computer. It seems I really don’t have any viable options here…

IIRC, OpenOffice outputs in Word format. Also, our Army staff element had a group license for any software they wanted us to use on our home machines—see if TSA has one for word processing (totally unclassified stuff, right?).

Ahem. Waterboarding and all that jazz aside:

DFIP Detainee passes away
By CENTCOM Public Affairs

MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla (October 24, 2011) — A detainee at the Detention Facility in Parwan died yesterday from an inoperable and terminal brain tumor. At the time of his death, the detainee was receiving medical care at Craig Combat Surgical Hospital, a nearby U.S. medical facility.

As a compassionate and humanitarian gesture, Combined Joint Interagency Task Force 435 worked with Afghan authorities and the International Committee of the Red Cross to contact family members and arrange visitations with the detainee while he was receiving medical care. The family members expressed appreciation for these visits and the quality of care provided to the detainee.

The detainee’s remains are being treated with the utmost respect. A cultural advisor is assisting CJIATF-435 to ensure that the remains are handled in a culturally sensitive and religiously appropriate manner.

Yes. They are human. To treat them otherwise would make us no better than our enemies.

Yep. Cockroaches are unwitting beasts. Terrorists are thinking, calculating, evil human beings.

But the children of cockroaches are cockroaches. The children of terrorists are children— children who are raised with propaganda and hate, but still born in innocence, like all children.

calling cockroach spawn children rivals calling terrorists cockroaches anyday….but there must be some anal explanation most of us might understand if presented in short words….lol

Well, I haven’t used the most recent OpenOffice version, since I don’t need that sort of stuff much, but I know that in the past it wouldn’t always be perfectly compatible with Word/Excel/Powerpoint/etc. files, even if exported in the proper format. So I’d suggest testing OO a bit before going with it, since sometimes those things can become bigger issues than they first appear.

OpenOffice definitely isn’t 100% compatible. I can’t use it for some work applications because of that.

No one needs you to be “fair”. But there’s no difference between your attitude and Hamas’ -> .il and I’d tell some Hamas jackass the exact same thing I told you.

Neither of you have to agree with it, either.

Not a fair statement by any measure.

I was being generous to the rocket launching murderous vermin. I have a lot worse things to call them and humans aren’t one of them but I’ll hold back.

You will be happy to know they see you the same way. Makes it easier to kill you. You guys have more in common than you thought.

re: #272 RayFerd

I think you’re missing the point by rather a broad mile. NDJ was only referring to terrorists; that’s clear. Hamas, and the other terrorists, use such language to refer to all Israelites, or all Jews.

Do you see the large difference there?

I’ve got no proof to back it up, but I’m getting the feeling that Cain thinks he knows better than his staff, and has told them ‘I’ve got this.’

Either that, or he doesn’t have anyone with any PR experience, or the ones he does have are under directions to ‘speak only when spoken to.’

The guy’s obviously not lacking in the ego department, and that might be Problem #1 right there.

Which seems to be the root cause of all of Cain’s problems.

re: #176 ausador

Was it custom-built or was it a pre-built box from one of the major OEMs (Dell, HP, etc.)?

I’m not convinced Herman Cain harrassed anyone. However, his goofy sequence of responses devours the tiny sliver of doubt left in my mind that he’s remotely capable of handling himself in the spotlight on a Federal political level.

re: #174 leftynyc

SOME gay men do in fact hate women (I personally suspect mommy issues) but in my experience, the vast majority do not.

I also suspect that gay men who really don’t like women don’t tend to make friends with women. Buzz’s assertion seemed to be that all those straight women with gay guy friends were being put on by people who couldn’t stand them, but were somehow compelled to keep taking their phone calls anyhow.

280 wilburs  Tue, Nov 1, 2011 6:51:52pm

So when is Herman Cain going to take his own advice and

blame himself?
