Watching the Right get uptight about "racism" and even accusing those who criticize Cain of "racism" has gotta be the biggest "WTF" moment of this election season. It's a might like the KKK getting offended by somebody in blackface.

By their comments on the page, looks like being pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-constitution, pro-limited government, pro-liberty is an extreme position for the readers of Fox News Nation. Strange, it matches up pretty closely to the official GOP party platform. People with these views used to be called patriotic Americans.
Well guess we'll just have to be happy as gun-toting, bible-thumping, bitterly clinging extremists. I've been called worse. Karl Rove, FOX & Co, can shove their RINO du jour where the sun don't shine!!

Nerves Fraying On The Right Over Potential Romney Nomination
Will tea party and Religious Right activists unite in their shared loathing of Mitt Romney? Judson Phillips of Tea Party Nation sent an alert to members today pleading with them to support his chosen candidate, Newt Gingrich, over Romney. “If Mitt Romney wins the primaries, the Tea Party has lost,” Phillips writes, “and it does not matter whether it is Obama or Romney who wins the election, as there is very little difference between the two.”
...
Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association, who was reproached by Romney at the Values Voter Summit, dedicated yesterday’s Focal Point to warning about a potential Romney nomination. AFA’s Michigan leader Gary Glenn already signed his name, along with other Religious Right leaders, on to a letter pleading with GOP voters not to nominate Romney. Fischer argued that Romney’s nomination will mean “the end of the Republican party as a political force” and that he has no chance of defeating Obama as a result of his well-documented flip-flopping and public perception of his Mormon faith:

So, no "investigation," no President, no protesters, and no death threats will keep me from doing the job I was elected to do. But I need your help if I'm going to be successful.

Occupy Wall Street Protesters Wrestle With Growing Security Concerns
There have been multiple incidents of assault, drug dealing and drug use, rape and attempted rape, according to conversations with numerous protesters. And the problem, they say, is getting worse.
....
The sanitation team has reported finding needles in tents, and reports of crack and crystal meth use have surfaced. But the most serious concern most protesters say, is the risk of assault, especially for women and at night.
....
The police have made a handful of arrests, but many of the alleged crimes have gone unreported. Although a police presence surrounds the park, officers rarely enter it. Protesters offered dozens of explanations for what they describe as a diminishing police presence inside the park and a growing criminal element, which range from the conspiratorial to the practical.

Agreed, blaming the cops is just absurd. I don't think their security plans are going to work very well. Even with a highly disciplined and organized group it would be really tough to maintain security in an urban park. I don't think the protesters have what it takes to secure these camps.

Well, at least you're not prejudging them.

Yes, it's tough to maintain security in a public park. It's tough to maintain security in a nightclub, too. In most New York nightclubs you could find a bunch of drugs, dudes groping women, etc. You can find it in most college dorms. You can find it in most places where there's an undisciplined group of people.
I'm really not getting the point of this concern.

Agreed, blaming the cops is just absurd. I don't think their security plans are going to work very well. Even with a highly disciplined and organized group it would be really tough to maintain security in an urban park. I don't think the protesters have what it takes to secure these camps.
Your usual concern is noted.

The concrete or grass aren't the issue. They don't own the park and there's no way for them control who can stay and who has to go. They can't keep an eye on everybody and what they're up to.

Here is some good news:
Inmates Freed After Crack Penalties Are Eased
[Link: www.npr.org...]
Black, 36, was among the first of potentially thousands of inmates who are being released early from federal prison because of an easing of the harsh penalties for crack that were enacted in the 1980s, when the drug was a terrifying new phenomenon in America's cities.
"I can't wait for my son to get home," said Black's mother, Donetta Adams of Springfield, Ill. "I'll just be glad to hug him and kiss him and see him right now."
The 1980s-era federal laws punished crack-related crimes much more severely than those involving powdered cocaine — a practice criticized as racially discriminatory because most of those convicted of crack offenses were black.
More recently, the penalties for crack were reduced to bring them more in line with those for powder, and Tuesday was the first day inmates locked up under the old rules could get out early.

I can believe the girl was being completely straightforward and honest. Herman Cain Accuser Wants To Come Forward
Joel P. Bennett, an attorney to one of the two National Restaurant Association employees who allegedly accused Cain of sexual harassment, told the Washington Post on Tuesday that his client is currently barred from speaking by a mutual non-disparagement agreement with the organization. But he says that agreement is being violated by Cain already, who has taken to the press to slam the harassment claim as “baseless,” and that she now wants to come forward and reveal herself to set the record straight.
“It is just frustrating that Herman Cain is going around bad-mouthing the two complainants, and my client is blocked by a confidentiality agreement,” Bennett said. “The National Restaurant Association ought to release them and allow them to respond.”
Bennett told the Post that if his client, who now works in the federal government, were given permission to speak about the incident “then it is whole new ballgame.”

Occupy Wall Street Protesters Wrestle With Growing Security Concerns
Security problems grow at Occupy Wall Street
Protesters express frustration about disruptions in the park
[Link: www.salon.com...]
Are physical occupations a sustainable tactic for Occupy Wall Street?
There are signs in New York and around the country that life in public parks and plazas is presenting unexpected difficulties for the economic justice protesters. Chief among them is security, and particularly the attraction of disruptive people to Occupy sites who have no interest in the movement.
“It’s gotten really bad in the last couple weeks, the population of criminals and predators. Fully half the camp down there now don’t have anything to do with the movement. They don’t go on marches. They’re just down there to eat and cause trouble,” says Fetzer Mills Jr., a 51-year-old from Memphis who has been working on the Occupy security team at Zuccotti Park in lower Manhattan. “We are overwhelmed.”

The 'donation' happened long, long, long before Occupy got off the group. Donations to police and fireman is a long-standing way for corporations to give back to the community.

The overall crime rate in the city will remain more or less the same. However, the camps attract a lot more than would normally be in the area which causes its own problems. Add to that the homeless showing up for free food and parties. Also various criminal elements show up for good times and easy prey. This is a privately owned park, as has been made abundantly clear already. And legally, nightclubs and other areas are 'public' too and the cops have just as much an obligation to make sure that such crimes aren't happening there, as well. Do you really think that cops have less responsibility to go after rapists just because they're indoors?
If the cities allowed these areas turn into dagerous crime ridden areas the public is going to be pissed.
Zucotti park is a tiny area that's less than a city block. It is not an 'area'. Even according to the video you're so fond of, the problem is in one section of that small park.
The city can't just wash their hands and walk away.
Who's talking about the city walking away?

Should teens be screened for drug use?
In a major policy shift, pediatricians call for HIV tests and drug screening for teens.
[Link: life.salon.com...]
This just in – teenagers experiment with sex, alcohol and drugs. But for the first time, the American Academy of Pediatrics now boldly recommends that adolescents be routinely screened for illicit-substance use and HIV. The policy statements suggest doctors routinely test kids 16 and up for HIV in communities where more than 0.1 percent of the population has the virus — regardless of whether the patient admits to being sexually active. It also states that doctors should ask teens about drug, alcohol and nicotine use at every visit. But while a routine HIV test is a fairly straightforward, judgment-free process, frank conversation is another one altogether. Are parents and pediatricians ready to get frank with teenagers about their recreational activities?

I've heard many of these arguments before in my life, when the asshole Jordan used these excuses to destroy homeless encampments in Golden Gate Park, destroying the minimal property of the homeless there and driving them out. Then he dusted his hands off and he pretended he'd done something, like because the homeless weren't in the park anymore they'd ceased to exist, ceased to be a problem, it was solved, over.
The homeless, of course, got displaced to the rest of the city, as did whatever particular crimes they were involved in.
Moving criminals out of one place isn't going to solve a fucking thing.

Syria says it has reached a deal with an Arab League committee tasked with finding a way to end seven months of unrest and starting a dialogue between president Bashar al-Assad and his opponents.
State media reported the deal, without giving details, saying an official announcement of the agreement would be made at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo on Wednesday.
The United Nations says more than 3,000 people have been killed in Mr Assad's crackdown on an uprising which erupted in March against his rule, inspired by revolutions which have toppled three Arab leaders this year.

It is when you ignore that the police department is repsonsible for public safety everywhere in the city, not just in public parks. They're not the New York Park Police. They're the New York City Police Department.
I'm not advocating closing down the parks, just explaining the reality that the parks may be closed down for public safety concerns.
And I'm explaining that that would be an absolutely bullshit reason, since the criminals would not disappear, the crimes would not stop happening, and the public safety would not be increased by doing so.
It might very well be an excuse, but that's what it would be, a thin, transparent excuse.

re: #227 RogueOne
I guess the lesson here is "no touching, no matter what."
The suit, filed by Long Beach-based lawyer Alex Galindo, gives this account:
The two were waiting in line to ride the GhostRider, a wooden roller coaster, when Love had to get out of the line to use the men's room. When he returned, Knott's security said Love and Johnson had cut into the line and ordered them to leave the park. Johnson protested but left, even though nearby police officers had confirmed with other patrons that Love and Johnson had not cut into the line.
The officers escorted the pair across Grand Avenue to the tunnel that connects Knott's Berry Farm with the main parking lot. Love turned to Sgt. Michael Lovchik and said, “We showed respect, right?” Love then gave Lovchik a “man hug” to show he had no hard feelings.Lovchik shoved Love away. At that point, officer Roger Plumlee rode up on his horse and struck Love on the left shoulder and back with his baton. Trying to cover himself from the blows, Love slipped on a wet incline, hitting Plumlee's horse, causing it to fall to the ground, the suit says.

Oh but nothing's wrong.
Why the SEC Won’t Hunt Big Dogs
by Jesse Eisinger
ProPublica, Oct. 26, 2011, 12:56 p.mThat is the way I felt last week when the Securities and Exchange Commission announced that it had, well, agreed to a measly $285 million settlement with Citigroup over the bank having misled its own customers in selling an investment it created out of mortgage securities as the housing market was beginning its collapse.
In addition, the S.E.C. accused one person -- a low-level banker. Hooray, we finally got the guy who caused the financial crisis! The Occupy Wall Street protestors can now go home.
After years of lengthy investigations into collateralized debt obligations, the mortgage securities at the heart of the financial crisis, the S.E.C. has brought civil actions against only two small-time bankers. But compared with the Justice Department, the S.E.C. is the second coming of Eliot Ness. No major investment banker has been brought up on criminal charges stemming from the financial crisis.
To understand why that is so pathetic and -- worse -- corrupting, we need to briefly review what went on in C.D.O.'s in the years before the crisis. By 2006, legions of Wall Street bankers had turned C.D.O.'s into vehicles for their own personal enrichment, at the expense of their customers.
Continues.

Mom claims Anaheim cops executed son
[Link: www.ocregister.com...]
ANAHEIM – The mother of a man shot and killed by Anaheim police in August has filed a claim against the city for "wrongful police execution of her son."
The claim was filed by Maria Lopez, the mother of David Raya, 23. A claim is typically the first step leading to a lawsuit against a city.
Raya was shot by a police officer at around 1:40 p.m. Aug. 16 during what police described as a confrontation with an officer in front of an apartment complex on the 100 block of West Guinida Lane, near Iris Street.
At the time, police said the confrontation took place while officers were in the neighborhood searching for Raya, a parolee considered armed and dangerous. Police did not say whether Raya had a weapon or fired at officers.
Raya was on parole after pleading guilty in 2006 to felony assault with a firearm; he was sentenced to four years in state prison.
In the claim, attorney Richard Herman says that Raya was running away from his girlfriend's home, where he had seen police officers trying to serve a warrant because he had failed to report to his parole agent.
Without passing judgement on her claim, I found this picture (part of the slideshow) interesting:

re: #230 Gus 802
Oh but nothing's wrong.
Last week's S.E.C. complaint makes clear that the low-level Citigroup banker that it sued, Brian H. Stoker, had multiple conversations with his superiors about the details of Class V. At one point, Mr. Stoker's boss pressed him to make sure that their group got "credit" for the profits on the short that was made by another group at the bank.
Pause, and think about that. The boss was looking for credit, but as far as the S.E.C. was concerned, he got no blame.
The S.E.C. did not respond to a request for comment, so we are left to wonder what explains its failure to reckon adequately with the pervasive problems. Contrary to expectations, the embattled and oft-assailed agency has done almost everything right with structured finance investigations, taking aim at abuses related to C.D.O.'s and other complex deals.

Just like the state of Hawaii knew Obama was going to run for the president!

Might Trump be regretting his hasty departure from the race? He could be looking at the wreckage of Cain, Perry, Newt and Spooky-eyed Michelle and saying to himself "This thing is still up for grabs! I have got to get in there!"
I understand the risk in trying to guess at Trump's motivations, but why else would he be injecting himself into this mess?

I have had the pleasure of being around the edges of a Donald Trump transaction, and I have to say that when he is dealing with his business, he's a very savvy guy. His word is worth shit, but I gather that this is the norm in the world of NYC real estate. As goofy as he is, at the end of the day there is a really big apartment building where there wasn't one before, and he has walked away with a pile of money. (That's not to say that he hasn't had some misadventures, too, but when he sticks to his knitting he is very capable.)

I can think of million cliches and memes about this. Another one being "freedom isn't free." Lots of oversimplifications. Most of them of course involves some kind of military action and/or death/wounding. Lots of guilt tripping. You don't even have to be a veteran to play that game. The Big Business of Inhumane Detention of Immigrants
The inhumane and abusive immigration detention system is good business for one particular special interest group — the private prison industry.
The Department of Homeland Security assumes that mass detention is the key to immigration enforcement. But in fact, our detention system locks up thousands of immigrants unnecessarily every year, exposing detainees to brutal and inhumane conditions of confinement at massive costs to American taxpayers. Throughout the next two weeks, check back daily for posts about the costs of immigration detention, both human and fiscal, and what needs to be done to ensure fair and humane policy.
The inhumane and abusive system that is immigration detention in this country is good business for one particular special interest group — the private prison industry.Continues.

Quite proper if a particular sect puts a particular emphasis on the end-times, esp. if they're thought to be at hand.

Christianity put particular emphasis on the end-times and thought they were at hand since at least the Apostolic Age, i.e. from the very beginning. Historically, it's been the norm, not the exception.

The average Christian is not fretting about any of the core constitutive elements of Christianity, for example: the Trinity. Yet, Christianity is essentially trinitarian.

So what? Yes, it is both trinitarian and apocalyptic in the sense that it is its doctrine. This is not the sense in which the phrase above was used, so retorting "all Christianity is apocalyptic" is illogical - yes, all Christianity has end-of-the world beliefs, but not all sects put the same emphasis on the Apocalypse or believe it will most probably happen in our lifetime (or at a particular date, even) and base a lot of their actions around this belief.
