Four members of a Georgia militia have been charged by the FBI with plotting terror attacks using the biological poison ricin.

“When it comes time to saving the Constitution, that means some people gotta die,” an arrest affidavit quotes one of the defendants, Frederick Thomas, as saying during one recorded conversation.

According to arrest affidavits filed in the case, 67-year-old Dan Roberts and Thomas, 73, agreed to buy a silencer, a bomb and parts to convert a semi-automatic rifle to a fully automatic machine gun from an undercover agent.

Meanwhile, 65-year-old Ray Adams and 68-year-old Samuel Crump worked to obtain castor beans and produce ricin, an FBI agent states in the documents. …

The affidavits don’t identify the “known militia organization.” But according to the documents, the men talked about spreading ricin across several cities at once, including Washington, Atlanta, New Orleans and Jacksonville, Florida.

During an April meeting at his home, Thomas allegedly told participants he had a “bucket list” of politicians, government officials, corporate leaders and media figures he said should be targeted to “make the country right again.”

“I could shoot ATF and IRS all day long. All the judges and the DOJ and the attorneys and prosecutors,” the affidavit quotes Thomas as saying.

Crump allegedly said he wanted to make 10 pounds of ricin for distribution. “Dump that little (unintelligible) that’s all you gotta do is lay it in the damn road, the cars are gonna spread it,” the affidavit quotes him as saying.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has linked one of the suspects to a militia called the “North Georgia Area Command.”

Although the affidavit did not name any group the four men were affiliated with, the Southern Poverty Law Center has found records identifying a “Capt. Dan Roberts” as the contact for the 440th Squad of a militia group called the North Georgia Area Command. That command is part of the Georgia Militia, a group that has 19 chapters in that state.

At one meeting, Thomas allegedly discussed creating a “bucket list” of officials, politicians, business leaders and journalists who he thought should be “taken out” to “make the country right again.” He said, “I’ve been to war, and I’ve taken life before, and I can do it again,” according to the affidavit.

Thomas is also quoted as saying: “Let’s shoot the bastards that we discover are anti-American or enemies of America, treasonous. And to me the easiest and best way to do that is to walk up behind them with a suppressed .22. I am of the , uh, old school, Mafia; one behind the ear with a .22 is all you need. … Of course a .40 Smith and Wesson or .45 ACP is just as good, even better, [be]cause it makes the whole head explode.” At another point, discussing scouting buildings to bomb in Atlanta, he allegedly said, “We’d have to blow the whole building, like Timothy McVeigh.”
