Cain Manager Mark Block: Apologize To America, Rick Perry - Update: Never Mind

Feel the burning outrage
Politics • Views: 23,527

Cigarette Smoking Man Mark Block demands that Rick Perry apologize to Herman Cain and his family, and quite frankly to America.

Youtube Video
UPDATE at 11/3/11 2:36:45 pm

And now … the walk-back!

What a difference 24 hours can make.

After Mr. Anderson flatly denied having leaked the story to Politico — and even denied having discussed the issue back in 2004 — Mr. Block appeared again Thursday on Fox News.

“Until we get all the facts, I’m just going to say that we accept what Mr. Anderson had said. And we want to move on with the campaign,” he said on “America Live.”

Mr. Block added that the Cain campaign was “absolutely thrilled” that Mr. Anderson went on Fox and said that he was not the source of the Politico story.

“Mr. Cain has always had the utmost respect for him,” Mr. Block said. “I’m going to do the same thing that Mr. Anderson has done and move on. Talk about issues and get off of this ‘silliness,’ as he called it, and let’s get on with the campaign.”

Perry: Read my lips. Wasn't me.

/and even if it was, you'd have to pry that apology from my cold dead hands..

I feel it lacks any real impact without him staring into the camera, taking a drag off a hand rolled and exhaling dramatically.

Yes, Perry, apologize for Cain totally failing to address this issue in any meaningful manner until it exploded in his face!

Herman Cain needs to apologize to America, and to himself, for giving Mark Block a job.

I truthfully don't understand why Perry would owe anybody an apology for bringing up a sexual harassment suit, supposing it was his campaign that did so. Even if you accept everything Cain has said at face value, it's like watching a ninety-eight pound JV kid try to set extra preconditions before a wrestling match. Nobody is forcing Cain to run for office, and dredging up actual legal settlements seems quite above-the-board as far as campaigning goes. This is the game. It's what you do.

Begging for such a tearful apology is just abjectly pathetic.

It's what we've come to expect from the Cain campaign, they truly have no clue what it is that goes on in a political campaign, especially not in primaries. A competent campaign would have already done the research, knew about the accusations and settlements, and had some scripted answer prepared for when the press started asking questions. Instead, they didn't, they weren't prepared, and are now crying "FOUL!" because of how badly they cocked up the response.

15 _RememberTonyC  Thu, Nov 3, 2011 1:44:26pm

Elizabeth Hasselbeck dismissed Cain's chances on this morning's episode of "The View." If he lost Elizabeth, he is done.

All that remains (IMHO) is the coronation of Romney in the primaries and the big decision on whom he chooses as his running mate. Look for a tea party favorite like Marco Rubio (Florida) to be the choice.

Why don't all the male GOP candidates just drop their pants and see whose dick is the biggest? Let's get all the posturing and pretend hurt feelings out of the way, and see who's the real man here.

It's that, or spin them around and see who can break the pinata first.

Tea Party-Backing Heckler Calls Elizabeth Warren ‘Socialist Whore’

Speaking in a packed VFW hall, Warren went on to address his question about her association with Occupy Wall Street. “I’ve been protesting what’s been going on on Wall Street for a very long time,” she said, but added that the movement has its own independent agenda and will proceed along its own course.

“Yeah, so has the Tea Party,” the man said, before losing his cool.

“Well, if you’re the intellectual creator of that so-called party,” he said, “you’re a socialist whore. I don’t want anything to do with you.” The crowd shouted him down as he added that Warren’s “boss,” presumably referring to the president, was “foreign-born.” He then attempted to storm out through a side door. Finding it locked, he retreated out the back of the VFW hall instead.

You stay classy TP.

Not unless he flip-flops.

The GOP nomination really is Romney's to lose at this point. He is the only one in the whole GOP field that has any chance of being elected. But quite honestly, I see President Obama being reelected. While Obama hasn't had much luck with the economy, he has done well in enough areas that I could see myself voting for him in spite of certain things that give me pause. That is subject to change over the next 52 weeks, but he has shown growth and I think the naivete that concerned me in 2008 is no longer a factor.

And with that, it is time to head home from work to my freezing cold house. Tonight will be our 6th straight night with no power. I hope to check in later, if my fingers aren't too frozen to type on my ipad.

As of today, I do too.

All they have are race/gender novelty acts like Cain and Bachmann trying to out-screech the old standby bigots like Paul, Newt and Santorum...and of course that stupid confederate Perry.

It would be nice if conservatives could get their act together for more than a minute so we can have a real GE race, and I'm sure they will by primary season.

Which starts in 2 mos, but still. I'm caught between Schadenfreude and wanting an actual competition from them. I believe Romney can give it. Too bad the constituency hates him. :/

Her "defense" seems to be broken into three parts:

- The accusations against Cain are baseless, because we don't know anything, without mentioning the non-disclosure agreement that was part of the settlements (which Cain may have already violated).

- Pulling up instances used to paint the Democratic Party as "truly racist," despite similar instances from Republicans.

- And finally, concluding that the real reason Cain is being targeted for criticism is not because he's black, but that's "too black" when compared to Obama.

Or, to sum it up, it's Ann dancing all around the issue and acting as though her conclusion is "sound."

I really do believe he started all this out as a means of gaining publicity, hoping to cash in on the book sales and speaking gigs, but instead found himself crowned nominee as a desperate bid by the base to keep it from Romney.

Conservatives are perfectly capable of getting together some normal candidates so we can have a normal election. So who, I wonder, does the GOP think is fooled by this nonsense?

In some ways, I don't think the establishment really expects to win next year, expecting instead that they'll just gain ground in Congress and use that to tie Obama's hands further. If they're expecting to win the election, it certainly can't be with this luckless lot. Or, at least not without spending a great deal of money trying to convince the voters that voting for a piss-poor Republican is better than a second Obama term.

Yeah, I've been kicking that idea around myself, more along the lines of them focusing on state-level elections and politics. But I can't think of a historical precedent where either the GOP or Ds "threw" a GE to focus on those. I really can't see them relinquishing the WH to 4 more years of Obama, either.

Ha, again, we're thinking about something similar. One of the things that could seriously backfire on the "she wanted it" types is just what you have to endure to not only file a sexual harassment complaint, but get a winning ruling. Let alone a monetary one that pays a year's salary.

A friend of mine had to to it for age and gender discrimination and it was utterly grueling -- this is a long-time, seasoned career person (of course, that was the issue the bigots had with her in the first place.)

They think others are such golddiggers for easy cash, I'd like to see some of these frothing conservative men file a sexual harassment complaint against a male boss who did the same things Cain did, whatever those were. Let them report back how easy it is.

Developer with shotgun scared off Oakland rioters

"We had people who were attempted to break into our building," the landmark Rotunda Building on Frank Ogawa Plaza outside City Hall, Tagami said today. He grabbed a shotgun that he usually keeps at home, went down to the ground floor and "discouraged them," he said.

No police were in sight, he said.

"Basically, people were pushing to get through the door," he said. "I was standing there and they saw me there, and I lifted it - I didn't point it - I just held it in my hands. And I just racked it, and they ran."

Rasmussen? Now there's a reliable conservative polling outfit. And what the heck does Rick Perry have to do with this besides rumors? The Cain camp is run by a bunch of rank amateurs. Fox News of course will back anyone of the GOP line-up as long as they have the right polling numbers. Yesterday's flavor was Rick Perry. Right now it's Herman Cain. All of which of course isn't based on principles but reactionary emotions.

It's on again! Cain's going after Perry. After walking back his initial accusation, it appears Cain sees a winning formula in blaming Perry.

Wilson is a Perry supporter and now does polling for a super PAC that supports the Texas governor’s presidential bid.

Cain also said he doesn’t remember working with Wilson, citing the size of the organization.

“I didn’t even know he was doing polling work for the restaurant association. For him to say stuff like that, there again, where’s the documentation? Where’s the proof? They don’t have any.”

Earlier in the day, Cain’s chief of staff Mark Block said he accepted the denial of a strategist for Rick Perry’s campaign, who Block and Cain had accused of being the original source of the story, first reported by POLITICO on Sunday.

DOJ Withdraws Controversial Change to FOIA Regs

We join Senator Leahy in commending the Department of Justice on withdawing the controversial section (16.6 (f)(2)) from their proposed revisions to the Department's FOIA regulations. As we noted, the provision would have amended the FOIA regulations to allow the DOJ, when it determined that requested documents it holds fit within exclusions under 5 U.S.C. section 552(c), to respond to a FOIA request by falsely stating that no records exist.

The 1986 Attorney General Meese memo to which DOJ refers in its letter to Senators Grassley and Leahy says "Where an exclusion is employed, the agency is legally empowered to "treat" the excluded records as not subject to the FOIA at all. Accordingly, a requester can properly be advised in such a situation that "there exist no records responsive to your FOIA request." This is not what the now-withdrawn provision said.

We are pleased to note that DOJ will require that records be kept of any uses of an exclusion -- and its approval -- and that the number of times an agency invokes exclusions be publicly reported in the Chief FOIA Officer Report for that agency.

I don't think so. I know Colorado, especially Denver, has alot of Tibetans, but I don't think there is a large Uyghur community in the US.

I spent a few moths traveling from Tibet, through Western China and back to Beijing. Uyghurs were probably the most interesting part of the trip. Very unique culture and not at all what I expected.

They are also related to the Turks.

They are the reason relations between China and Turkey are rather chilly now, and the reason China hate is so rampant there.

The amount of anti-semitism in Turkey is very minor compared to the amount of Anti-Chinese prejudice. It's bad. Real Bad. Only in a few nations directly abutting China is the prejudice worse, notably Mongolia.

And I can understand why the Turks are upset, and I can't find it in me to condemn them.

It would likely never even get that far. I mean, what the hell would they sue for? You can't sue someone for reporting the truth, especially on a public figure. That's several levels of insane. And they'd need to find a lawyer willing to suffer the results of actually trying to file what would be a blatantly frivolous lawsuit.

Report: Cain Incident Led To ‘Urgent Discussions’

The woman in question, roughly 30 years old at the time and working in the National Restaurant Association’s government affairs division, told two people directly at the time that Cain made a sexual overture to her at one of the group’s events, according to the sources familiar with the incident. She was livid and lodged a verbal complaint with an NRA board member that same night, these sources said.

The woman told one of the sources Cain made a suggestion that she felt was overtly sexual in nature and that “she perceived that her job was at risk if she didn’t do it.”

According to the piece, the incident in case led to an immediate complaint to a board member and eventually drew in another board member as well as the company’s general counsel. The woman described in the piece reportedly received a $35,000 settlement. Cain has not acknowledged that either a formal complaint from her or a settlement ever took place, instead discussing only a separate accuser who reportedly received a $45,000 payout.

I like my wording and I'll stay with it, it's less offensive then what the liberals are called by the right.

When did Kilgore ever insult you like that?

I think you think too much

What in the world is thinking too much?

According to what measure, yours?

I give this campaign manager 5-10 years. With his smoking and blocked arteries, he's already turning purple.

Come on 'repugs'? You people? Why on earth do you think Killgore is a Republican?

Repugs is what I use for right wing Republicans, because they don't respect me as a liberal so I will not show them any respect.
And "you people" what is wrong with that ? would you have rater I said "you idiots".
And with his constant use of the Republican meme "OWS bad" to attack the OWS movement, it wasn't hard for me to come to the mistaken assumption he was a right winger.

Generalizing people is always tricky. Doing so in a disparaging way while being wrong about the facts involved is ignorant at best.

1. It was explained to you several times that KT is not a Republican.
2. To quoque is a logical fallacy.
