Herman Cain’s Press Conference on the Sexual Harassment Allegations

As his first accuser is identified
Politics • Views: 19,833

The first woman to come forward and accuse Herman Cain of sexual harassment has been identified.

Cain is scheduled to hold a press conference in about 10 minutes at 5 pm ET, and here’s a thread to watch and comment; all indications are that Cain will deny everything and attack his accusers in personal terms. Should be a hoot.

UPDATE at 11/8/11 3:51:14 pm

Right on cue, Cain categorically denied everything, spoke about himself in the third person, and attacked Sharon Bialek as “a troubled woman” whose “statements exceed common sense.”

For a guy who released a long screed yesterday about how bad the media is, I wonder how this will play out. Will he take it seriously or will he spend time at the podium acting like a fool?

2 Obdicut  Tue, Nov 8, 2011 1:53:14pm

I found a Fox link that says it’ll have it live:

The NRA did.

Looking forward to someone coming up with a photo of Cain with one of his identified accusers who he doesn’t remember. Maybe Bialek has some that are now for sale?

139 Charles Johnson  Tue, Nov 8, 2011 2:21:57pm

Cain will take a lie detector test, which is appropriate, since lie detectors are bogus.

The court of public opinion is the way we elect presidents.

Why does he hate it so much?

Because he’s been weighed, measured, and found wanting.

No settlement? Now you’re not even on speaking terms with reality.

Anyone have a link that the claim was “baseless”? Seems very odd that she got a payout for “baseless” accusations.

Oh here we go. He’s seen “situations where women have attempted to sexually harass men.”

2. He didn’t know China had nukes

Instant disqualification.

Cain is a runaway train for the GOP that they tolerated only out of a desire to appear above racism.

There’s so much he made worse I can’t even count it.

1. Leaning on his wife as a character witness, and then saying “You can’t talk to my wife.”

2. Saying “I’ll take a lie detector test. If I want to.”

3. Saying that the Democrat machine is doing this, and then saying he’s got no clue who’s behind it.

4. Saying he can remember people well, and that’s why he can’t remember her.

Kraushaar

There’s so much he made worse I can’t even count it.

1. Leaning on his wife as a character witness, and then saying “You can’t talk to my wife.”

2. Saying “I’ll take a lie detector test. If I want to.”

3. Saying that the Democrat machine is doing this, and then saying he’s got no clue who’s behind it.

4. Saying he can remember people well, and that’s why he can’t remember her.

5. Saying that the claims were found to be baseless, and then dodging the question of exactly who had found those to be baseless.

Etc.

He’s leaning pretty much on people (his wife, NRA, etc) who either can’t or won’t speak out against him. It certainly explains why Mrs. Cain’s appearance on Fox News was canceled.

Karen Kraushaar, Herman Cain Accuser, Goes Public With Sexual Harassment Allegations

Ms. Kraushaar, a spokeswoman at the Treasury Department in Washington D.C., said in an interview with The New York Times that she was upset that her name had leaked into some press reports. But she said that she decided to speak out now that her identity is known.

“When you are being sexually harassed in the workplace, you are extremely vulnerable,” she said. “You do whatever you can to quickly get yourself into a job some place safe and that is what I thought I had achieved when I left.”

She *didn’t* come forward, the Daily Caller outed her.

Since her reason for not coming forward was to maintain a level of privacy, and that’s obviously gone now… no reason she shouldn’t now be willing to speak. Which was undoubtedly the DC’s reason for publishing her name, workplace, and picture.

Did he actually cheat on his wife, have a love child, refuse to promote woman in his business ventures, physically hurt any woman?
Has any women who has come forward actually had sex with him—in any form?

Harrassment seems subjective compared to the other things he could have done, but hasn’t been brought up by anyone?

If he “harrassed” this many women that we know about, odds are that he “harrassed” a lot more who actually said yes. He played the odds and lost 5 times?

This is when I actually feel sorry for his wife. Cause its gonna get real ugly…granted, like Herman said, she knows him, so maybe she really does know but it’s different when what you know is plastered for all the world to see.

I felt bad for his wife up until he invoked her as a character witness in his defense. Now, she’s as much a part of this circus as the women who are getting the third degree from the wingnuts.

Uh oh. Cain may have lost a group of social conservatives.

The head of the Concerned Women for America is on CNN and she is not being nice to Herman Cain AT ALL.

Vancouver “Occupyers” bit 2 cops, chief says

Chief Jim Chu says a fight broke out when firefighters moved in to the protest camp to extinguish a fire in a barrel around midnight.

He says police stepped in when people in black masks and others he says were intent on violence formed a human chain to prevent the firefighters from doing their job and began to push them around.

Officers were then punched, kicked and bitten, while one had his ammunition clip stolen.

Well, if anything, it should be a big wake-up call for the National Restaurant Association and any other group which regularly “entertains” it’s members. A lot happens when alcohol is involved.

This is only the overture. Wait until the contraltos kick in.

Kraushaar’s lawyer was just on Al Sharpton’s show saying they’re trying to arrange a joint press conference with the all of Cain’s accusers together.

Now that’ll be the presser worth watching.

OK. Catching up on this thread now. A few comments:

re: #37 Rightwingconspirator

Victim testimony is hearsay? On what planet is that?

Ahahaha… my law professor would have a field day with that, and he’s not even a criminal lawyer. He specialized in entertainment and IP law.

re: #66 Alexzander

The entire line of GOP candidates are a perfect reflection of a dying ideology.

The entire modern GOP is a perfect reflection of a dying ideology. They need to punch their shit forward a few decades. Living in the 1950’s doesn’t do you any favors when a sizable chunk of the electorate only knows about anything before Reagan from history books.

Uh, not the Americans I know.

Dear Herman—

We had one already. He was POTUS from 2000-2008. Harvard MBA and everything. Or did you forget?

No love,

That’s all well and good, but until the TPers and the party brass get tough with him and ask the really hard questions of Cain, it’s not gonna matter much to him.

Best use of third person ever was from Ricky Henderson:

“Ricky doesn’t like it when Ricky can’t find Ricky’s limo.”

In 1996, Henderson’s first season with San Diego, he boarded the team bus and was looking for a seat. Steve Finley said, “You have tenure, sit wherever you want.” Henderson looked at Finley and said, “Ten years? Ricky’s been playing at least 16, 17 years.”

as for me, the accusations are secondary to how he’s handled the fallout…whether me assaulted someone is clear as mud

Based on what’s come out to date, I agree.

Purely as a matter of gamesmanship, he needed to come out with his wife by his side, offer to take a lie detector test, and challenge his accusers to do the same.

As matters stand, irrespective of the merits of the situation, he is too radioactive to be nominated. If the chips had fallen his way wrt lie detectors & oppo research on his accusers, he could have picked up enough momentum to get nominated.

Fail.

Rickey once asked a teammate how long it would take him to drive to the Dominican Republic.

Rickey was asked if he had the Garth Brooks album with Friends in Low Places and Henderson said, “Rickey doesn’t have albums. Rickey has CDs.”

A reporter asked Henderson if Ken Caminiti’s estimate that 50 percent of Major League players were taking steroids was accurate. His response was, “Well, Rickey’s not one of them, so that’s 49 percent right there.”
