Fake Outrage Du Jour: ‘Obama’s Christmas Tree Tax’

Jim Hoft’s commenters respond by spewing anti-Muslim bigotry
Wingnuts • Views: 24,983

In the perpetual race to the bottom of a bottomless pit that is the right wing blogosphere, a new outrageous outrage has arisen, more outrageous than all the other fake outrages of wingnut history.

My friends, can your hearts stand the awful truth of the Barack Hussein Obama Christmas Tree Tax?!

You can trace this idiocy from its not-very-humble origin at the Heritage Foundation’s blog, then to Drudge Report and the wingnut blogs, ending up, as all fake outrages must, with a feature story in Fox News’s continuing series of “War on Christmas” canards: Merry Christmas? Agriculture Department Imposes Christmas Tree Tax | Fox News.

The truth is that a $0.15 fee was requested by the National Christmas Tree Association, to help fund an initiative to promote fresh-grown American Christmas trees. In other words, the industry itself wants to charge Christmas tree sellers a fee that will be used to help their business grow, and compete against increasingly popular artificial trees.

DERPThe amount of toxic rage this pro-business initiative inspired on the right is very impressive — perhaps best expressed by the inimitably dim Jim Hoft (aka Gateway Pundit), who got right to the bold-faced and capitalized point: Bah Humbug… Obama Imposes 15¢ Tax on Christmas Trees | The Gateway Pundit.

Barack Obama Hates Christians.

Hoft’s commenters are a truly special bunch, as well; they react to this intolerable tale of oppression by spewing anti-Muslim hate speech and conspiracy theories:

One thing we know is that this Kenyan muzzie will never impose a tax on anything related to Islam.

[…]

They should put a tax on MAO ornaments.

[…]

Would never have been a tax if it was a Ramadan Tree.

[…]

Maybe a prayer tax is coming next or a crucifix tax.

[…]

No, next will be a tax on all CHRISTMAS GIFTS and CHRISTMAS CARDS.

[…]

Lets all REBELL about the Christmas Tree Tax!

Lets start a Christmas Tree Party!

We can all dress up like Muslim Terrorists, I mean Freedom Fighters, and Chop the National Christmas Tree into little toothpicks to float down the Potomac River, along with the ornaments of Chairman Mao and Joseph Stalin.

[…]

Yeah, what about to “promote” Christmas presents? oops, I suppose that would translate into support for IED sales in celebration of Sharia’s Ramadan. And maybe even into support for Iran’s nuc. toys.

[…]

Lets see.
So far , the 1/2 white moozie has :
1. Taxed tanning
2. Taxed Christmas trees
3. Tax exempted zakat ( jihad ” charities “)
4. Used taxpayer money for G-0 mosk
Anyone else see a trend here ?

[…]

Shall we be seeing a similar tax on sheep for the Muslim holidays?

[…]

It is an attack on Christians, just like the tax on tanning beds is an attack on white people.

[…]

Jizya.

[…]

this is a tax on christians. is he going to impose a tax on muslims for fasting during ramadan?

[…]

Let’s not limit him to hating Christians. He hates Jews, too.

[…]

It’s a veiled attack on our holiest day of the year. You have to be deaf, dumb, and blind not to know it. Why are they allowing a man who’s lying about his true identity to do this to us? His father isn’t Barack Obama, it’s Malcolm X. He also doesn’t like FDR’s prayer at the WWII War Memorial. His true father was a Muslim and so is he. He’s lied about his faith also, along with everything else.

Poor Bari Shabazz, A Fugitive At Large. Of Course He’s Got To Hide Out As Barack Obama!
by Martha Trowbridge
terribletruth.wordpress.com

Barack Hussein Obama and Malcolm X Like Father Like Son?
octaman.com

[…]

What is your faith? Do you have any faith. Who in the heck do you think you are to come here, and call people stupid and dangerous for being hurt that in a country that was founded by Christian men, our faith is being attacked on a daily basis. We’re always told we’re intolerant, NO! It’s those attacking us who are intolerant. OBAMA IS A MUSLIM. HE’S ALWAYS BEEN A MUSLIM. HIS FATHER IS MALCOLM LITTLE AKA X!

[…]

Someone needs to bury a pig in the Whitehouse lawn, maybe he will leave.

Notice that these troglodytes are repeating previous fake outrage memes, like the inane “White House Tree Festooned with Evil” idiocy.

And there’s a new one, repeated twice by Hoft’s commenters, that I haven’t seen before — the “tanning bed tax” that’s supposed to be an “attack on white people.” Wow.

Just like the Christmas ads have started early this year, so has the War On Christmas.

10 jaunte  Wed, Nov 9, 2011 12:32:26pm

How to distort the news:

MSNBC reports:

The group noted in July that "The majority of public comments submitted and 17 out of 19 trade organizations that submitted comments support the order."

Fox News reports:

The program and fee were supported by some in the Christmas tree industry.

11 Simply Sarah  Wed, Nov 9, 2011 12:32:44pm

Well, of course they have a problem with it. It's the government helping to manage a program on behalf of businesses and they want none of that. It doesn't matter that parts of the industry requested it, since it's evil on principle and they should feel bad for having floated the idea.

I gotta tell you, my father, the lifelong liberal Democrat, was a bit hacked that Mao was actually on the tree, although once he got the context, he was not upset with Obama.

He still wanted Mao removed.

Hedda Lettuce did not bother him.

re: #10 jaunte

Those opposed to the proposal? Those who are in the artificial tree business (which happens to include a whole lot of companies outside the US). So, this is a proposal that had the backing of the industry to benefit tree farms with a program that would be akin to the "Got Milk?" campaign or "Beef, it's what's for dinner," or the "Pork, the other white meat" campaigns.

The fee wouldn't be imposed on those businesses that sold/distributed fewer than 500 trees a year, and had backing of those in the industry (who would seem to know better what the industry needs than someone who isn't in the industry).

Yet, this is spun as the Administration's war on Christmas? Or that this was a secret move (even as it was published in the Federal Register - the official publication for the US Government).

The checkoff program is similar to ones overseen by the Department of Agriculture for the milk, beef, pork and egg industries, among others
The funds are administered by a marketing board appointed by the secretary of agriculture from nominations submitted by the industry.

I watched the video up until the fascist-islamist-marxist thing. It's nonsense. The radical antiwar left has a problem with Israel and often voices support for Hamas, Hezbolah and terrorism suspects. Some of those elements creep over into OWS but they're trying to keep it under wraps. Does OWS have a problem with antisemitism? Probably yes but it's unlikely to become central to the movement unless Israel attacks Iran, goes into Gaza again, or the US starts another war that the lefties can blame on Israel. Does that video have a point? No, not really.

Live trees in tubs (large containers on wheels) makes the most sense - they are reusable, and if one has property can be planted outside. Also, I'd like to see people move on to dwarf (6') forms of conifers, that can be kept in the large in pots.

And yes, in Europe the use of Pagan symbols like trees is quite old in Christianity, though I'll note that in other parts of the world using a tree during a celebration of Jesus' birth is a later addition (a Westernization, if you will.)

Much of what we think of as "Christianity" is some form of paganism (or polytheism) grafted onto the root of Herodian Judaism.

Neat science article of the day:

Energetics and the evolution of human brain size

The human brain stands out among mammals by being unusually large. The expensive-tissue hypothesis1 explains its evolution by proposing a trade-off between the size of the brain and that of the digestive tract, which is smaller than expected for a primate of our body size. Although this hypothesis is widely accepted, empirical support so far has been equivocal. Here we test it in a sample of 100 mammalian species, including 23 primates, by analysing brain size and organ mass data. We found that, controlling for fat-free body mass, brain size is not negatively correlated with the mass of the digestive tract or any other expensive organ, thus refuting the expensive-tissue hypothesis. Nonetheless, consistent with the existence of energy trade-offs with brain size, we find that the size of brains and adipose depots are negatively correlated in mammals, indicating that encephalization and fat storage are compensatory strategies to buffer against starvation. However, these two strategies can be combined if fat storage does not unduly hamper locomotor efficiency. We propose that human encephalization was made possible by a combination of stabilization of energy inputs and a redirection of energy from locomotion, growth and reproduction.

In other words, we succeeded in conquering the world because we kept both the smart and fat strategies but gave up constant movement and having flocks of offspring.

Random anecdote:

Somewhere in the deep South, a colonial reenactment group that does things for tourists is getting set up. The blacksmith (the friend of a friend who passed this on to me), tells his apprentice to make a few nails, so they can hang things up on the walls. Guy gets to work. He is soon interrupted, however, by a difficult tourist lady, who explains to him that that's inaccurate, and she knows, because nails are a modern invention, and they didn't have them back in colonial times. Didn't he know that?

The kid nods solemnly, and says, "Yes ma'am. That's how come they had to attach Jesus to the cross with duct tape."

Also from today (and sure to catch LVQ's eye):

Methane may be answer to 56-million-year question

Abundant Early Palaeogene marine gas hydrates despite warm deep-ocean temperatures

Synopsis: The significant climate warming (associated with large increases in atmospheric CO2) 50 some million years ago could definitely have been caused by large methane releases from the sea, and idea that before was not thought possible due to warm sea temperatures at the time.

This raises the spectre that indeed it was such methane releases that caused the events of the early Palaeogene, which radically reshaped the biosphere (this was 9 to 10 million yeas after the dinosaurs and other large reptiles disappeared.)

A positive feedback of heating - methane-release is one of the worst case outcomes of AGW, should it occur.

What ever you use, make sure it's totally edible, because it's all going to be licked off. Vaseline would be OK, because that's recommended for hairballs, but it's a petroleum product, so it might end up making the pads drier. Straight lanolin would be good. Some pharmacies have it.

133 Gus  Wed, Nov 9, 2011 1:19:50pm

OK here's the whole screed from Sher Zieve of Renew America:

Today may mark the real beginning of the end of the United States of America. We-the-People are being forced into the deadliest phase of the Obama Plan, yet — that of his overwhelming implementation of his US Police State.

Obama and his syndicate have now declared the usurpation of the State of Tennessee and its melding into the Obama government to be official. After extensive testing to see how far employees of Obama's perverse TSA (Transportation Security Administration) would go with their sexual groping of even small children, Obama has now seen that they will do virtually anything they are tasked to do and "The One" has judged them worthy of the questionable honor of checking for US citizens' papers on US highways, buses, trains and wherever else the now official dictator-in-chief decides he wants to exhibit his power and control over the American people.

Tennessee — which is the scene of multiple unconstitutional test cases with its completely corrupt Monroe County — has been chosen as the State that will begin the official Obama Police State. The former USA has now become either East Germany or the Stalinist USSR — take your pick. And, this move by the Obama syndicate has nothing — whatsoever — to do with terrorists (unless you're finally waking up to the fact that the Obama syndicate members ARE the terrorists). It is, however, Obama pushing hard for the final forced submission of We-the-People into the US Slave State, which has now arrived with nary a whimper.

Note: I never realized how thoroughly submissive to totalitarianism we had become, until recently. I thought we still had a chance to survive. I actually thought we would fight. On one thing Obama is correct. We HAVE become soft.

Now, in a secondary move to seize all power in the country for himself and his syndicate, Obama has decided that he will confiscate ALL television and Radio broadcasts for a supposed "test" of the EAS (Emergency Alert System). Communication for both US television and Radio will be cut off on 9 November 2011 for at least 3-4 minutes. This is both unprecedented in our history and constitutes the final phase of Obama's testing of his ability to seize communications in the USA at will. In the past, real Presidents of the USA have asked for time from the various broadcast networks when there was an emergency and they needed to speak. No more. We are now firmly in the bowels of the Obama dictatorship and said tyrant is violating each and every principle and law contained with the US Constitution.

The Obama-supported and implemented "Occupy Wall Street' flea circus has provided Obama with both an "if you don't give us what we want, we'll turn violent" crowd and an almost perfect cover for his implementation of the finalization of his Police State. Anyone still think Obama is naive and incompetent? Not a chance. As I've been writing since before he usurped the Office of POTUS, Obama has been hired to destroy the USA and once he's in power we may not be able to get rid of him. He knows precisely what he's doing. Any more questions?

Today may mark the real beginning of the end of the United States of America We-the-People are being forced into the deadliest phase of the Obama Plan, yet — that of his overwhelming implementation of his US Police State Obama and his syndicate have now declared the usurpation of the State of Tennessee and its melding into the Obama government to be official after extensive testing to see how far employees of Obama's perverse TSA (Transportation Security Administration) would go with their sexual groping of even small children, Obama has now seen that they will do virtually anything they are tasked to do and "The One" has judged them worthy of the questionable honor of checking for US citizens' papers on US highways, buses, trains and wherever else the now official dictator-in-chief decides he wants to exhibit his power and control over the American people Tennessee — which is the scene of multiple unconstitutional test cases with its completely corrupt Monroe County — has been chosen as the State that will begin the official Obama Police State the former USA has now become either East Germany or the Stalinist USSR — take your pick and, this move by the Obama syndicate has nothing — whatsoever — to do with terrorists (unless you're finally waking up to the fact that the Obama syndicate members ARE the terrorists) it is, however, Obama pushing hard for the final forced submission of We-the-People into the US Slave State, which has now arrived with nary a whimper note: I never realized how thoroughly submissive to totalitarianism we had become, until recently I thought we still had a chance to survive I actually thought we would fight on one thing Obama is correct we HAVE become soft now, in a secondary move to seize all power in the country for himself and his syndicate, Obama has decided that he will confiscate ALL television and Radio broadcasts for a supposed "test" of the EAS (Emergency Alert System) communication for both US television and Radio will be cut off on 9 November 2011 for at least 3-4 minutes this is both unprecedented in our history and constitutes the final phase of Obama's testing of his ability to seize communications in the USA at will in the past, real Presidents of the USA have asked for time from the various broadcast networks when there was an emergency and they needed to speak no more we are now firmly in the bowels of the Obama dictatorship and said tyrant is violating each and every principle and law contained with the US Constitution the Obama-supported and implemented "Occupy Wall Street' flea circus has provided Obama with both an "if you don't give us what we want, we'll turn violent" crowd and an almost perfect cover for his implementation of the finalization of his Police State anyone still think Obama is naive and incompetent not a chance as I've been writing since before he usurped the Office of POTUS, Obama has been hired to destroy the USA and once he's in power we may not be able to get rid of him he knows precisely what he's doing any more questions?

Obama has decided that he will confiscate ALL television and Radio broadcasts for a supposed "test" of the EAS (Emergency Alert System). Communication for both US television and Radio will be cut off on 9 November 2011 for at least 3-4 minutes. This is both unprecedented in our history and constitutes the final phase of Obama's testing of his ability to seize communications in the USA at will.

It's the Antichrist!

Good thing the hippies are drumming.
Global economy at the tipping point

Europe is heading for recession. China is battling its own economic demons. And with the United States also facing problems at home (9% unemployment anyone?), it's hardly in a position to help.

Without a white knight to step in and save the day, will we all go down together?

"The global economy has entered a dangerous and uncertain phase," cautioned International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde this morning in Beijing.

"If we do not act, and act together, we could enter a downward spiral of uncertainty, financial instability and a collapse in global demand," she said. "Ultimately, we could face a lost decade of low growth and high unemployment."

Some evidence shows we could already be past that point.
....
Though most economists are not predicting another recession for the United States, not enough is known about American exposure to Europe's debt crisis.

"If we learned anything in 2008, it's that we don't know what we don't know about the linkages," said Carl Weinberg, chief economist for High Frequency Economics. "We think that American banks are adequately capitalized to withstand any shock from Europe, but we are also watching for those unexpected results."

If Obama has to do another TARP he's fucked. The American people have been feeding on populist economics and any attempt at common sense economics in a crisis will be considered an outrage.

1. I toyed with posting the following when this story appeared on the Pages yesterday:

This is obviously part of Sekrit Mooslim Buraq Hussein Obama's stealth war on Christianity. /

You snooze, you lose: the Gateway Punditeers have beaten me to it. Ah, well.

2. From Charles' Fox link:

...efforts to collect voluntary contributions for a fresh-tree marketing campaign have repeatedly run out of funding. So the government stepped in to mandate a fee to support the promotion board.

So some business in this niche industry got the government to mandate something that other businesses in the industry do not want to do.

My attitude becomes suspicious when I read something like this. Who would have been appointed to the board and what salaries would they have earned? Who, exactly, benefits and who, if anyone, loses?

3.

But Agriculture Department spokesman Michael T. Jarvis had defended the program, saying it's along the lines of over 20 other promotional programs supported by the department, such as the "got milk" campaign.

I hadn't realized the government was involved in those promotions. Mr. Jarvis apparently believes they establish a precedent for the Christmas tree situation. Others might draw a drastically different conclusion.

4. On its merits, all this is a tempest in a teapot--I don't see how the annual revenue can be more than eight figures--, but IMO similar things go on involving far larger amounts of money.

5. This fee is unwarranted afaic, but the White House aggravated the situation by yielding to political pressure. IMHO the thing to do was to wait for the furor to die down and then cancel the fee "as part of an ongoing review of unnecessary regulations and expenditures".

6. After writing the above, I found this statement by the National Christmas Tree Association.

Federal Register:

The proposed new program will assist the fresh Christmas tree industry to: develop and finance an effective and coordinated program to strengthen the position of industry; and maintain, develop, and expand existing markets for fresh Christmas trees. Over the past 15 years, the sales of fresh Christmas trees has decreased from 37 million to 33 million trees. The decline in sales closely reflects the increase in sales of artificial trees. It is the hope of the fresh Christmas tree industry that a research and promotion program will help create a well coordinated national campaign to increase the demand of fresh Christmas trees. The industry has tried voluntary marketing campaigns only to watch them fade when contributors feel they are carrying the weight of the entire industry. [Link: www.federalregister.gov...]

Thanks for that. People often use tanning beds in an addictive fashion, not even coming close to following the safety recommendations as to frequency of use, etc. A close relative of mine died very young from a malignant melanoma following obsessive tanning bed use.

It's a strange sort of war/attack ("on white people") that saves money and lives.

re: #137 Gus 802

Would have been better if it was just one giant paragraph and one sentence.

This is the official description of a single subforum on the Prison Planet (Alex Jones' loony bin) website:

CYBERTERRORISM - Admitted to be 100% controlled by CIA/FBI/NRO/NSA/NCS
The FBI have admitted that all cybercrime is committed by them or another agency in order to control any possible future cyberterrorists that may blossom. They continually recruit anyone who shows an interest in cyberterrorism by paying them large sums of taxpayer money and telling them to recruit their friends. The Pentagon regularly runs classes for children to teach them how to hack into neighbors' bank accounts and security systems. They then recruit the children that show promise for future covert operations. Since the 1970's, RAND Corporation has been working on these operations for total surveillance and domination over the individual by enacting progressively more catastrophic cyber terrorism. After every attack, RAND recommends more network centric systems with less humans. This of course allows for PTECH style systems to create more catastrophic attacks. The PTECH/Cyberterror that occured on 9/11/2001 as revealed by declassified FAA and MITRE documentation (along with the testimony of Indira Singh who exposed these remote command and control systems) prove that PTECH and MITRE had some of the most powerful control over the events of 9/11/2001. This includes running all of the military drills which gave cover for the events while causing cascading stand down orders throughout NORAD. But the cyberterrorism agenda by Bilderberg/Pentagon is not limited to spectacular events like 9/11/2001, they also include the building of massive data wharehouses of profiling information on all citicens and all foreigners. The Pentagon regularly steals millions of records from Sony, Target, Bank of America, Defense Contractors, all the social networks, all healthcare data, basically all of the sectors of society. William Lynn III has admitted to this full spectrum control of all data systems and the only reason they call it a 'hack' is to avoid treasonous violations of the the first, forth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eigth amendments in the US Constitution. By the Pentagon stealing the information (which is given to Bilderberg Eurocrats), they can claim it was a hack (no non-FBI/Secret Service controlled hacker targets the middle class) and that the information is now public knowledge because it was purposefully leaked. They also use this information in elaborate extortion operations to neutralize potential 'turds in the punchbowl'. In fact, IBM/RAND/CSIS brag about building predictive systems which will autonomously silence potential whistleblowers who compromise their plans for destroying the United States of America. They actually brag about it. This is how IBM/RAND are building their 'Alphaville' control grid which IBM/CISCO have written white papers about. Basically...War is a Racket and Cyberterrorism is a Racket. The most treasonous corporations involved (the top people from them, not the majority of the workers who are compartmentalized) are Kissinger's CSIS, RAND, MITRE, Booz Allen Hamilton, CACI, Kroll, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems. Just reading Brzezinski's 'Between Two Ages' gives a person a good understanding of this Trilateral Terrorist agenda.

I have electricity. It's just this old cold house and the guy that's letting me stay here is kind eccentric and has just his side of the house with heat. Separated with sheets of plastic. Basically his room is 62 degrees. No heat on my side -- i.e. no heating registers at all. So I'm guessing it's about 52 degrees in here. He said last year it was about $270 for one month of heating. Is there reason for Tanning Beds beyond Vanity?

Not sure, but definitely it seems to be very bad news when used for cosmetic reasons. From the tanning bed wikipedia article:
[Link: en.wikipedia.org...]

Because of the adverse effects on human health of overexposure to UV radiation, including skin cancer, cataracts, suppression of the immune system, and premature skin aging, the World Health Organization does not recommend the use of UV tanning devices for cosmetic reasons.

Also:
[Link: edition.cnn.com...]

People who regularly use tanning beds may double or even triple their risk of developing melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, according to a new study.

The study found that people who have ever tanned indoors have about a 75 percent higher risk of melanoma, on average, than people who have never tried it.

But the risk of melanoma was much higher among frequent and long-term indoor tanners. Compared with those who had never touched a tanning bed, people who spent more than 50 hours under the lights were three times more likely to develop melanoma, according to the study, which is the largest of its kind to date. People who frequented tanning salons for more than 10 years or who logged more than 100 sessions were about 2.5 times more likely to develop the cancer.

AMI Rescinds Cain Endorsement Amidst Allegations

Amid a storm of allegations levied against Herman Cain, the American Mustache Institute today announced it had rescinded its endorsement for his presidential candidacy.

Concerns began when members of the AMI administration, during a campus scouting visit near Washington, D.C., visited a Godfather’s Pizza in the town of Cross Junction, Va.

“We ordered the ‘All Meat Combo’ that claims to be ‘piled so high with beef, pepperoni, sausage, ham and bacon bits that there’s no room for any veggies,’” said Dr. Abraham Jonas Froman, chief executive officer of AMI. “But it had limited meat on it at best. Do you understand what ‘piled so high with beef, pepperoni, sausage, ham and bacon bits that there’s no room for any veggies’ really means? Cain clearly does not.”

Then allegations came to light that Cain’s mustache is not real, but actually a theater quality upper lip garment, and not the labia sebucula (Latin for “lip sweater”) he claims to have worn since his early 20s.

How walking through a doorway increases forgetting

Like information in a book, unfolding events are stored in human memory in successive chapters or episodes. One consequence is that information in the current episode is easier to recall than information in a previous episode. An obvious question then is how the mind divides experience up into these discrete episodes? A new study led by Gabriel Radvansky shows that the simple act of walking through a doorway creates a new memory episode, thereby making it more difficult to recall information pertaining to an experience in the room that's just been left behind.

Dozens of participants used computer keys to navigate through a virtual reality environment presented on a TV screen. The virtual world contained 55 rooms, some large, some small. Small rooms contained one table; large rooms contained two: one at each end. When participants first encountered a table, there was an object on it that they picked up (once carried, objects could no longer be seen). At the next table, they deposited the object they were carrying at one end and picked up a new object at the other. And on the participants went. Frequent tests of memory came either on entering a new room through an open doorway, or after crossing halfway through a large room. An object was named on-screen and the participants had to recall if it was either the object they were currently carrying or the one they'd just set down.

The key finding is that memory performance was poorer after travelling through an open doorway, compared with covering the same distance within the same room. "Walking through doorways serves as an event boundary, thereby initiating the updating of one's event model [i.e. the creation of a new episode in memory]" the researchers said.

But what if this result was only found because of the simplistic virtual reality environment? In a second study, Radvansky and his collaborators created a real-life network of rooms with tables and objects. Participants passed through this real environment picking up and depositing objects as they went, and again their memory was tested occasionally for what they were carrying (hidden from view in a box) or had most recently deposited. The effect of doorways was replicated. Participants were more likely to make memory errors after they'd passed through a doorway than after they'd travelled the same distance in a single room.

And in Kraushaar's case, Cain's already set up things by declaring before she's spoken that her claims were "found to be baseless." So the pressure is now on the NRA, since they've given the go-ahead for her to speak, to produce the results of their investigation.

no, You can get milk out of them, but you can't milk them. This is a plot point in the Terry Pratchett book "Nation".

Basically, the milk flows only when actively being sucked on-- you can't just massage it out with your hands, like with a cow udder. It doesn't fill an udder-ish area that you can then squeeze.

The people losing their houses are the ones really to blame, not the people walking away from it with millions of dollars sucked out of the market.

Charles Pierce previews the debate:

Tonight, in the 3245th of 9876 scheduled debates between the candidates for the Republican presidential nomination, the topic is very likely to be OMG, SCARY IRANIAN NUKES! FECKLESS! NAIVE! HIDE UNDER THE BED!!! Of course, nobody in the field except Jon Huntsman, the Incredible Vanishing Mormon, has any serious experience at dealing with foreigners. Michele Bachmann has negotiated with nobody except the voices in her head for 10 years, and Rick Perry believes there are only two countries in the world — America-Fk-Yeah! and Meskinland. Newt Gingrich's most memorable overseas experience was bitching about his seat on Air Force One, and all Ron Paul knows about people in other lands is that we shouldn't give them any money. (He feels much the same about other Americans, too, so that's a wash, I suppose.) Mitt Romney's experience in foreign affairs is limited to bobsledders, and Herman Cain's experience in foreign affairs is — please, god in Heaven, let this be so — merely limited.

The debate — in Michigan, where the unemployment rate is 11.1% and has yet to fall below 10% since Barack Obama's election — is supposed to be about the economy. Nevertheless, the whole thing's likely to turn into a geography bee among eight half-bright students who studied a globe in the hour and a half before the cameras and the lights came on. So far, their performance has not been promising. Of course, they've all had a couple of days to spend warming up on the basic themes:

La Bachmann got loose from her keepers over the weekend and spent some time firing up the Enola Gay and getting swatted into the right-field seats by Christiane Amanpour, who has plainly had enough of these idiots and longs to go back to interviewing sensible people who wear balaclavas and carry AK's.

Hell, I don't even have to watch now.

You ARE intolerant, and yes I AM intolerant of your intolerance of ME. Anything else signs on to my elimination.

re: #490 Gus 802

Crocoduck. Was that invented by that asshole Kirk Cameron?

It was invented in a cute children's book, and then Cameron said that the lack of a link between a crocodile and a duck disproved evolution.

Duck's didn't evolve from crocodiles, of course. Crocodiles are a very different evolutionary path from the dinosaurs. And there are raptors that almost certainly had feathers, which were the common ancestors of birds.

Reference to an older thread where some folk were taken to task to using labels about Hamas members. Was pointed out that they were still humans (or minimally that they had families and children) and thus broad brush labels were not appropriate. More complicated than my short description here, but that is what he is referring to.

Steve is really mad because I said that referring to people as cockroaches when you're going to bomb them is dehumanizing and leads to bad things.

He's trying to spin me calling people 'assholes' (while, of course, not planning on bombing them) is dehumanizing them.

Basically, Steve missed the point and can't drop the grudge. Nothing new.
