Amazon’s Black Friday Still On

Lifestyle • Views: 39,264

With all these horror stories of hapless shoppers being brutally pepper sprayed, and human stampedes leaving dozens wounded, aren’t you glad you did your Black Friday shopping at Amazon instead? I know I am.

It’s not too late to get great stuff at incredible prices, and I’m not just saying that because LGF gets a small commission from any sales we refer (by clicking the link below). Go and see for yourself; Amazon regularly has the best prices around, and their Black Friday deals can be pretty spectacular.

I always avoid Black Firday anyways, but doesn't it seem like people are getting more out of hand every year? (also companies, lol@midnight openings)

I don't understand why people feel the need to shop earlier and earlier every year, and it still seems to draw a crowd.

What's the attraction? Are these people programmed for a Pavlovian response to the word 'doorbuster?'

My Black Friday has exceeded my low expectations. One bicycle was put on layaway and I sold two stocking stuffers!

Actually, she used it multiple times.

There was also a store security guard who used it. Apparently he thought things were crossing the line into riot.

I've also gotten an unconfirmed report of tasers being used.

Are you going to shop Small Business Saturday?

(Full disclosure: My little sister owns a Small Business. To my irritation, it's in Spokane, and she sells furniture, so it's not like I can buy from her. Except for the one time when Mom & Dad were going up there with their van, so we arranged for an side table for The Princess, and then she told Mom for me not to pay for it. Poppycock. She's running a business, not a charity. I sent the check anyway. She'd better have cashed it by now, or...or...no more candy turkeys for her!)

Adbusters encourages shopping havoc

Adbusters, the Vancouver-based counterculture magazine widely credited with launching the Occupy Wall Street protests and countless other offshoots around the world, is exhorting its followers to "Occupy Christmas" by boycotting holiday gift shopping during the upcoming festive season.
....
Sally Ritchie, vice-president of communications for the Retail Council of Canada, denounced "Occupy Christmas" as an outrage that would threaten the livelihood of workaday Canadians.

People who make a living in retail depend on the revenue generated during the industry's peak period, Ritchie said. Disrupting it would be particularly mean-spirited in light of the precarious global economy, she added.

"It's a highly undemocratic sentiment, really," Ritchie said. "I just don't think that people are going to respond very positively to this campaign.

I'm probably more anti-consumerist than most OWS supporters but this is another really bad idea that's only going to alienate the public. OWS is already less popular than the Tea Party and this isn't going to help.

Yes, but Adbusters long ago demonstrated it was far more interested in ideology than in actual results. They aren't saying to corporations "You are doing evil and we think you should fix it", they're actually saying "I hate you, Daddy, I hate you!!1". The entire magazine is effectively trolling in Dead Tree format.

Agreed, especially in countries like Canada or the US, both of which have fairly diverse populations, such that having a legislative majority at the national level becomes an exercise in coalition building (liberal "MoveOn.org" Democrats vs. center-to center-right "Blue Dogs" to give one an example, "wet" (moderate) eastern Canadian Conservatives vs. more economically purist western Conservatives for another). In such environments, idealists inevitablely find them selves frequently frustrated as the bills they've though long about introducing are watered down or laden with pork in order to attract critical support from people with different views or interests.

After meeting up with Occupy Minnesota activists, who had successfully fought off an eviction from a foreclosed home in North Minneapolis earlier in the month, Occupy Minnesota occupied Kaiser’s former home. When Minneapolis police arrived to remove them and board up the house, 150 activists surrounded it, forming a human chain around the entire perimeter.

Two protesters were arrested during the action –- including one who can be seen in the video attempting to block a police car holding a protester arrested inside the house from leaving the scene by standing in front of the cruiser.

Disrespect for the law is required, when the "law" is ruining America, and the "law" is bailing out massive financial entities. mmm, free money to the ultra-rich! That's what America's all about! That's the "law".

and if OWS is not having any major impact, why is OWS still being talked about?

Seems if it has no impact, nobody would care

but yet, here we all are :)

You're missing a distinction. Specific laws can be just or unjust, wise or unwise. Enforcement decisions can be reasonable or ill-judged.

But we're not talking respect for the wisdom or justice of the eviction laws. We're talking respect, or disrespect, for the whole notion of having laws. No good can come of that kind of disrespect.
