Herman Cain: Wife Didn’t Know About ‘Financial Assistance’ to Ginger White

Say goodnight, Herman
Politics • Views: 31,300

Herman Cain told the Union Leader today that his wife didn’t know about the financial assistance he gave Ginger White. In fact, his wife didn’t know about Ginger White at all.

A surprising turn of events. That sound you hear is the refrigerator door closing and the lights going out.

MANCHESTER - Herman Cain acknowledged Thursday that he repeatedly gave Ginger White money to help her with “month-to-month bills and expenses” without telling his wife.

In fact, the embattled presidential candidate said, his wife, Gloria, “did not know that we were friends until she (White) came out with this story.”

In his most candid interview since the latest allegations emerged, Cain adamantly maintained that he and White were no more than friends.

Cain also stated clearly for the first time that he is considering getting out of the presidential race

Asked whether leaving the race is one of the options he is currently assessing, Cain said, “Yes, it is an option.”

If I gave money to a woman without telling my wife I would have a lot of 'splainin' to do.

Cain: You’ll Know In A Week Whether I’m Still A Candidate

Cain said that this was all happening because he is “the Democrats’ worst nightmare.” He claimed it was no coincidence that the stories started to come out as “my star was shining and rising.” Cain stressed he didn’t have complete clarity on the murky forces that might lie behind the conspiracy facing him, but he did come up with the following:

“Maybe the Democrats want Gingrich to win the nomination so they can then go after his personal life but they need to knock me out now. That’s just a hypothesis.”

Cain admitted several times during the interview that the litany of allegations had taken an “emotional toll” on his wife and family. This, he said, was a key piece in his reassessment of the campaign. Cavuto questioned Cain over whether his wife had asked him if the latest allegations were true. Cain’s response:

“Yes, she did and I told her exactly what has happened and what the situation is. But my wife loves me. She told me that again today.”

Remember when Cain said this?

“The things that that woman described, she said, that doesn’t even sound like you, and I’ve known you for 45 years,” Cain recalled his wife saying to him after she watched the press conference from Atlanta. “My own wife said that I wouldn’t do anything as silly as what that lady was talking about.”

I'll bet she's rethinking what she thought about him all these years. I feel for her. Her husband is a scumbucket.

Why, yes, but George didn't have a decade plus long affair either. What's also funny about that is I read that Edgar Hoover thought the movie was Communist propaganda since Potter the wealthy man is the villain. Capra and Stewart was both Republicans though. I don't see the movie as political tho.

Michele Bachmann misappropriated home-school group’s e-mail list

The president of a prominent home-school education group has confirmed to the Des Moines Register that Michele Bachmann’s presidential campaign misused an e-mail distribution list maintained by the group.

As was initially reported by The Iowa Republican this morning, the Bachmann campaign sent two e-mails to addresses gleaned from the Network of Iowa Christian Home Educators’ distribution list.

Did Cain think that he could run for President, and nothing from his past would come out in public? Well, if he did, he may have been encouraged by the pathetic state of America's media. Sarah Palin never gave a press conference during her ENTIRE 2008 campaign, and that was for Vice President of the United States. Cain may have thought that, like Palin, he could run for very high office and never have to answer any questions that he didn't already have a canned response for. This reminds me of Sharron Angle's remark to a reporter during her 2010 run for Senator: "I'll talk to the press after I'm elected."

Modern politicians figure that if they screw up, some pundit "on their side" on TV will spin things their way, and that will be that. Michele Bachmann really doesn't care about the truthfulness of what she says.

The only way to improve things is for America to have more journalists worthy of the name, and for more Americans to actually care about what's true and what's not true.

If we had better journalism in this country, I can't imagine someone like Herman Cain would have run for President in the first place.

I hope he and his family get some good family counseling. As bad as things are right now for them, it may well be a good family that's worth saving.

77 ElCapitanAmerica  Thu, Dec 1, 2011 9:25:09pm

A coworker explained it better, he was never in the race to win, he was in it to make money selling books and building a career on speaking fees and possibly more media opportunities in the future.

What happened is that unexpectedly to him and to all rational people, large chunks of the GOP actually started thinking he'd be a good candidate. I don't think that was ever part of his plan. He got caught up, and either he believed his own hype (I still suspect that's not really the case) or he just had to play along to keep getting all the media attention he was getting.

That's why, if he's thinking of selling his image and not really running for president, he didn't expect all the skeletons in his closet to come out as they have done and you would always expect if he was seriously running for president.

In other words, he is a victim of his own success and didn't know when to jump out on time when things were getting out of hand (ie: people were talking to him like he was a serious candidate).
