Power Line’s Hinderaker Blames ‘Democrats’ For Cain’s Downfall

Denial takes many forms
Politics • Views: 25,330

As usual, right wing blogs are taking all the wrong lessons from Herman Cain’s downfall. For example: The Moral of the Herman Cain Story | Power Line.

What happened to Herman Cain is what the Democrats intend to do to whoever the Republican nominee turns out to be. They know they can’t win a debate on the economy or on President Obama’s record, so they will do everything they can to distract the voters’ attention from those matters, which should be decisive, and instead turn the focus to the GOP candidate and his or her alleged foibles.

Strange; I can’t remember any Democrats making much of a statement about Herman Cain’s numerous alleged sexual improprieties. As far as I know, President Obama never mentioned the issue at all.

Herman Cain’s wounds weren’t inflicted by “Democrats,” but by his own amazing incompetence on many issues, and his evasive and frankly creepy attempts to divert attention away from his own behavior with crude misogynistic attacks on his female accusers. He didn’t need any Democrats to point these things out — they were obvious to anyone except a right wing blogger.

Not to mention his lack of penis control.

Mark Block blamed Perry, not Dems last time I checked.

4 windsagio  Sun, Dec 4, 2011 1:56:33pm

anyways, I’d bet real money that the oppo work involved was done by the Perry or Romney campaigns.

WUB and I were talking about this on the way home from the concert Friday. His theory was that cain’s hoping for a show on Fox, mine was that his plan all along was to pull a Palin and get involved in a PAC that mysteriously buys him free stuff.

Edit: either way there’s no chance he thought he’d win the primary.

The classic thing was when some rw whacko accidentially praised Pres. Obama’s family record. Heh.

7 Lord Baron Viscount Duke Earl Count Planckton  Sun, Dec 4, 2011 2:01:39pm

With all the rw attacks on Obama, what happened to Cain is nothing. It only worked because it was reality-based at least in part.

8 Kid A  Sun, Dec 4, 2011 2:05:04pm
He didn’t get personal in his attacks on the Obama administration, but focused on how to create jobs and spur economic growth.

Really??

Later on, Boortz asked Cain how he’d do in a debate with Obama, which then prompted both men to agree that Obama has “never been a part of the black experience in America.”

Good riddance, dumbass.

9 albusteve  Sun, Dec 4, 2011 2:06:28pm

I’d take the Right’s shock and outrage over the treatment of Cain’s sexual escapades seriously if they hadn’t spent the better part of the 90’s going on and on about Clinton’s. Seriously, you can’t build yourself as the party of the “moral majority,” and then get upset when others hold you to your own standards.

LOL. His amazing ego.

When was the last time you heard anyone talking about 9-9-9?

In an earlier post, Hinderaker said “I am not sure whether Cain’s 9-9-9 plan is a good idea or not.” He apparently still can’t decide.

I’m sure it would be a bad idea to add a 9% national sales tax to the state sales taxes we have now, even if Cain didn’t understand.

If the personal opposition to SSM is not the issue, then Huntsman passes this particular hurdle, since he would also leave it to the states. I doubt he would repeal DADT, if we’re speaking of that too.

re: #70 Sergey Romanov

Look, one party is pro-gay rights. The other isn’t. Parsing Obama’s support for SSM, and ignoring his support for nearly every other pro-gay initiative (DADT, DOMA repeal, states that already have SSM) doesn’t change the basic facts. The leaders of today’s GOP, from Bachmann (“gays are of the devil”) to current frontrunner Gingrich (“there is a gay and secular fascism in America today threatening to destroy us”) to flip flopper Mitt have staked out far right intolerant positions. Dems are clearly on the opposite side of the issue.

The Log Cabin Republicans are a joke: very small in number and ignored by the party base and rank and file.

Cain ruined Cain. For an ideology that self masturbates about how they champion personal responsibility. The right sure does blame others for their fuckups awfully quickly. Cain was fucked from the start as a candidate. Totally uninformed and proud of it.

Exactly. The Democrats would have loved to have Cain in the election.

81 sunnygal  Sun, Dec 4, 2011 6:17:38pm

Cain’s “If you don’t have a job, blame yourself!” is so applicable to Cain. No job as presidential candidate nor possible President, because of what he’s done and doesn’t know. Looks like that mantra, though, is just for others.

82 acacia  Mon, Dec 5, 2011 5:18:10am

The criticism is a bit unfair and misses the point of the blog. First, as the blog notes:

“Whether the accusations were true or not (and it is hard to believe that there was no fire anywhere in all that smoke), Cain’s effectiveness as a candidate was destroyed.”

In other words, his point isn’t that it wasn’t true or that Cain didn’t have serious issues created by his own making. He also does NOT blame the Democrats for publicizing the scandal. What he is saying is that the Republicans cannot afford to nominate someone with baggage because that will be the focus rather than the issues.

83 mikec6666  Mon, Dec 5, 2011 7:36:48am

Umm, yes. Have you? Have you looked at Sharon Bialek’s claims, for starters?

a glaring lack of substance on all these accusations

OK, now you made a claim. How about supporting it? Start proving it by showing that Sharon Bialek’s story is “glaringly” without substance (not that it is wrong, mind you; I’m not asking you to try to disprove it). Then show how stories without substance led to NRA settlements.
