You don't think the number of dislikes when compared to views is suspicious do you?

After a certain number ~300 or so, Youtube's system begins checking the veracity of each view, which introduces system lag. There are dozens of threads about this on their support forum.

My sister put the list on my bedside table, on the wild-assed assumption that I'd put it back in the box the cards had come in. Instead, in one of my monthly cleaning sessions, I tossed it in the trash along with some other papers I didn't really go through. So it's apparently my fault that I'm not a mind-reader.

This whole ad seems like a desperate effort to pander on the one issue where the gop base still loves him. Even the base is no longer impressed with him intellectually, and they see his immigration policies as even more liberal than Newt's. So he has to go back to his core strength.

This is just one more example of the type of campaigning Palin did just after getting the veep nod: based on xenophobia, it's a dog whistle about Obama loving "real America" less than the rest of us (i.e., white Christians). Wisely McCain told her to tone down that message, which was one of their first major disagreements. It's the lowest form of politicking...a pure appeal to fear and hatred. Even Perry has sunk to a new low.

Perry's ad is an extreme, but it's also the logical conclusion of the GOP's efforts this year to play to the religious vote. Apparently their poll-takers and number-crunchers are coming to the depressing conclusion that the only "sure" vote they have going for them anymore is the aging, white, religious one. Only with Cain could they safely play the race card, so with him gone, they're down to "old" and "religious." And since they all are pushing for "reform" or outright abolishing Medicare and Social Security, that just leaves "religious."

My superficially coherent theory is that Perry is aiming for the VP slot at this point: the party is going to saddle Romney (or perhaps Gingrich: his Catholicism is only slightly more tolerable than Romney's Mormonism) with a bona-fide fundamentalist socon running mate, so he's buffing those credentials.

The gop ran a punch line for VP last time. I don't think they'll make that mistake again...Perry would spend most of his time explaining the last dumb statement he made, and TX is already in the bag for the gop, so the geography doesn't help them.

You're right about Romney--he would need someone to balance out his far left raving liberalism, but I don't think it will be Perry. If Newt is the nominee, all bets are off...he repackaged himself a few years back as an "evangelical Catholic" so he's not as scary to the base as those Catholics who preach social justice, nonviolence, pacifism.

Clearly a man with his finger on the pulse of society.

I would totally vote for whoever Don Cornelius endorsed. Dude is hypnotic.

re: #79 palomino

The gop ran a punch line for VP last time. I don't think they'll make that mistake again...Perry would spend most of his time explaining the last dumb statement he made, and TX is already in the bag for the gop, so the geography doesn't help them.

I agree he's not going to get it, but I think he's trying to consolidate that power base with this latest move.

What we're looking at is the Republican position without the sly handtricks and "dog whistle" to which we've become accustomed. It's interesting that when it is laid bare, people are shocked.

It's a fine line that they [typically] walk quite well. Appealing to fear of the "other" and essentially pushing for a counter-constitutional state-religion is not easy to do and come off as big tent and American. They do it day and and day out, but when the cloth comes up and the point of view is stated matter of factly, all of a sudden its a story.
