Mitt Romney Says All Muslims Aren’t Violent Terrorists, Pamela Geller Freaks Right Out

But she loves Muslims
Wingnuts • Views: 28,424

Following Mitt Romney’s statement that he believes most Muslims are peaceful people like everyone else, Pamela Geller is totally freaking out: MITT ROMNEY: “ISLAM IS NOT AN INHERENTLY VIOLENT FAITH”????!! - Atlas Shrugs

Mommy loves youNot Mitt Romney. No way. No how.

Apparently, unlike most everything else, Mitt Romney has not flip-flopped on his position on jihad and Islam. Back in July 2009, I wrote in a post entitled, “Why Romney Won’t be President” that Romney would not be president because he said something so fundamentally and unabashedly wrong about America’s greatest mortal threat that he was unfit to be President: “Jihadism Is not part of Islam.” Yes, he said that. That is frightening coming from a Presidential candidate. Instead of spending the ensuing years studying jihad, Romney appears hardwired for delusion in his latest remarks.

The fact that Romney knows peaceful Muslims is purely anecdotal. I believe that most Muslims are secular and have no desire to strap one on. But that does not mean that Islam is not inherently violent. The ideology is the most violent and radical on the face of the earth. What history books is Romney reading……Dr. Seuss? How did Romney miss over 270 million victims in over a millennium of jihadi wars, land appropriations, cultural annihilations and enslavements? How did Romney miss the close to 18,000 Islamic attacks since 911? How did Romney miss the revolutions in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, etc.? How did Romney miss the jihad on the Jews and Christians and Hindus and Sikhs?

There are hundreds of millions of jihadis, what’s Romney smokin’?

What you believe is irrelevant, Mr. Romney. Just the facts, and they fly in the face of your fantasy.

Romney sounds like ………. Obama.

Romney cannot lead the free world. A basic understanding of Islam is essential in formulating policy and strategy in dealing with Iran, Israel, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Europe, Eurasia, etc.

UPDATE: Gingrich, OTOH, is brilliant on these issues, head and shoulders.

Maybe, but you have to understand that politics is all about power, and power is all about money. It's not about they, as The Base would like to think. The people with the money are backing Mittens and I assume that those shakers and movers are molto nervoso right now. 1. Heh. Seems like my week to quote Thucydides:

For ourselves, we shall not trouble you with specious pretences...since you know as well as we do that right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.

2. I do not say that this is inevitable. I do say that idealism and good intentions are inadequate to exorcise it. I do say that it is suicidal folly to ignore how ingrained this is into how humans conduct their affairs.

Yeah, it's like invoking the name "Cordoba" as a way of invoking the spectre of "evil, creeping sharia!", then skipping over the part about how, when the Christians retook the city, anybody who didn't up under the blade were tortured until converted or died, if they weren't just run out of town. Even the Christians who had lived peacefully under Muslim rule could find themselves the subject of their "saviors" tender mercies.

Er Pam, the expression is 'to tie one on', and while it's a routine with you, one has to be a very, very secular Muslim to go there indeed.

Please note the assumptions:

1. A peaceful Muslim is, by definition, 'secular'.

2. Most Muslims are believed to be peaceful people.

3. However, Islam, the TRUE Islam, as taught by such great Muslim scholars as Robert Spencer is inherently violent.

4. You shouldn't be influenced by Muslims you know. Their failure to blow shit up might lead you to think they are better Muslims than Muslims who blow shit up.

Romney's desperation reeks of someone who thinks the clock is running out. He's been trying to be President for years, waiting for his time, then campaigning for the 2008 nomination, then maneuvering himself for this year. He knows he'll be either too old or seem like a twice-loser by the time 2016 rolls around. So it's now or never for him.

Also: "Christians who do bad shit are acting against Christianity. Muslims who do bad shit are acting in accordance with Islam. Therefore, it doesn't matter what the actual real-world outcomes are."

The interesting thing for me has been groups like Youth For Western Civilization justifying the brutality of the Crusades. Crusades were terrible, terrible things.

Pam's ilk are now trying hard to totally rewrite the history of contact between Islam and Christianity.

In doing so, they have become, oddly, more anti-Muslim than the real Crusaders.

It's sort of strange.

An agency of yes-men who will parrot lines about how CO2 isn't pollution and isn't causing climate change, how clean air and water concerns should be left to state governments, and takes corporations at their word that they'll be "careful" instead of running environmental impact studies.

So, down in Durban, the other major text (which incorporates all the talks about things that are not in the Kyoto Protocol) has been published:

(pdf)

Lots of words... lots of promises. Probably way too many to ever come to fruition. It looks to basically be a superset of as many delegates' desires as possible.

They seem to add some flesh to what is known as the Climate Technology Centre, and the Green Climate Fund, which were proposed last year in Cancun as a follow-up to Copenhagen. The former is to facilitate the transfer of advanced technology to nations in order to allow them to develop but through fewer emissions, and the latter sends money to poorer nations to help with adaptation and development.

There will of course be competition for who hosts the Centre, and there are arguments over how to control the Green Climate Fund. These will have to be filled in later (next year.) That's not even touching on actually putting money into the fund, (but apparently South Korea and Norway are offering to kick in a few million dollars to start.)

All of this, even if it is finally approved at this COP (in the next few hours) will be fought inside various nations (including the US) with domestic politics as usual.

So we inch our way to the future, one carbon atom at a time.

4 rockets fired at Israel; IAF strikes Gaza targets (with video)

The IDF said that it regretted any harm to uninvolved civilians, which it said was caused by the presence of explosives and weapons at the targeted sites, including rockets. The airstrikes, the IDF Spokesman said in a statement, were accurate and direct hits on terror targets were recorded.

The IDF laid responsibility for the casualties on Hamas, "which chooses to operate in the heart of civilian population centers and uses human shields."

Interesting launcher I haven't see the Palestinians use before. It does seem to be an improvement over the rickety metal tripods they usually use.

One of the proposals looked into was to establish a new political movement called "Freedom and Justice", similar to the Egyptian party affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, which won the majority of votes in the first round of the Egyptian elections, in preparation of the elections expected to take place in the West Bank and Gaza next year once the reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas is completed.

Urban Dictionary: speak Truth to Power

A vacuous phrase used by some on the political Left, especially the denizens of the Democratic Underground website. Ostensibly, it means to verbally confront or challenge conservative politicians and conservative ideals using the overwhelmingly logical and moral arguments of liberalism. Doing so would, naturally of course, devastate the target individual, leaving them a stuttering, stammering bowl of defeated jelly. That or cause them to experience an epiphany that would have such a profound, worldview-changing effect that they would immediately go out and buy a Che t-shirt and start reading Noam Chomsky. Unfortunately, the individuals who would use this phrase have little or no understanding of either liberalism or conservatism, and the "truth" that they speak consists mainly of epithets and talking points, memorized by rote, which they learned from other, equally vapid liberals. As such "speak truth to power" joins other feel-good but ultimately meaningless gems from Leftist history such as "right on", "up against the wall". "question everything" and the ever-popular "fuck you, pig".

Had me snickering there in the middle before the bitter end.

Speaking of Durban, they seem about to climax. In about an hour there will be an informal "stock taking". Expect lots of whining.

Not that I expected any different. I've long been convinced that these shows are there merely for the spectacle. The stakes are too high to allow such an ungainly gaggle of wonks and onlookers.

But, one can pick up some insight over time. I've watched these for a few years and it seems that, slowly, China's role is changing. It is now beginning to have to isolate itself from being considered equal to the other "developing" countries, as it slowly takes on the role of a major player on the world stage. For example, China aligns itself with two groups, one of which is called BASIC (Brazil, South Africa, India, China), and in this meeting it became clear that BAS wasn't agreeing with the I which wasn't agreeing with the C. Especially since China is now the leading emitter of greenhouse gases other nations are realizing that it's going to be hard to align with China while trying to campaign for lower emissions. It just won't work.

Another observation from this meeting is the public absence of the North African states (other than Morocco). Though present, they just don't do pressers, etc. This has to be directly due to their nations being basket cases right now.

Last week the Lake Co. prosecutor made the news by telling the NY times that DNA evidence didn't match the man they mistakenly put in prison for 5 years because the 11 yr old rape victim must have been sexually active. [[Link: www.nytimes.com...] He also had said ""The taxpayers don't pay us for intellectual curiosity. They pay us to get convictions."

Shortly after the county Sheriff called for his resignation:
[Link: www.chicagotribune.com...]

Though it’s unusual for an elected sheriff to call publicly for a prosecutor’s dismissal, Curran said he did so because of his “disgust” with Mermel’s comments to the media and because of Curran’s respect for the constitutional process.

He cited comments Mermel reportedly made in a recent New York Times story about murder suspects in Lake County who’ve been targeted for prosecution even after DNA evidence pointed to other possible perpetrators.

It must have worked because now the prosecutor has decided it's time to retire:
[Link: www.chicagotribune.com...]

The job of a prosecutor is not to obtain a conviction, but to do the right thing, Stone argued.

"We've lost sight of that when we ignore facts in order to obtain convictions," Stone said. "While I agree with what Mr. Waller had to say and respect Mr. Waller for having said it, the legacy of his office will betray the ideals that he is espousing, and that's a shame."

Waller, who earlier announced that he won't seek re-election next year, declined further comment. When approached by a reporter at the courthouse Wednesday, he raised his hand and repeatedly said, "Don't ever approach me in the cafeteria."

At least a few people still know how it's supposed to work.

More from Chicago: Cop shoots at guy (at a Target store, ironic) dating his ex and cops arrest the shootee not the shooter. 4 years later and the asshat is still on the job and the shooting is still under review.

Jury awards $3K to man shot at by Chicago cop
[Link: www.morrisdailyherald.com...]

A federal jury on Wednesday ruled that a Chicago police officer has to pay a 34-year-old man $3,000 after shooting at him during a 2007 confrontation outside a South Side Target store, according to the 34-year-old man’s lawyer.

The jury award comes four years after Officer Darin Macon, who was off-duty during the incident, shot his gun at Andrew Richardson, striking his car, shortly after learning his ex-girlfriend went on a date with Richardson, said Richardson's lawyer, Torri Hamilton.
...
Just after midnight on Aug. 25, 2007, Richardson was sitting in his parked car outside Macon’s ex-girlfriend's home near 88th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue after the two went out on a date, according to the suit. While they talked, Macon pulled up in his car, started swearing at the woman and threatened her, the suit alleged.

As she and Macon began arguing, Richardson interrupted and told Macon he had nothing to do with the quarrel and asked him to move his vehicle out of the way so he can leave, according to the suit. Macon responded with a threat and he and Richardson began arguing. Macon then threw a cup of soda at the woman before driving away, according to the suit.

Richardson then followed Macon into the parking lot of a nearby Target store to get his car’s license plate number. After jotting it down, Richardson turned around and tried to drive away, the suit stated. As Richardson was leaving, Macon got out of his car with his service weapon in his hand and announced he was a police officer and opened fire on Richardson, striking his car’s driver’s side door, the suit alleged.

Despite Richardson telling responding officers at the scene that Macon was armed, Richardson was arrested and charged with two misdemeanors: aggravated assault to a police officer and battery, according to the suit. Those charges were later dropped.

A Chicago police spokeswoman said Macon is currently on active duty in the department’s troubled buildings unit.

The Independent Police Review Authority — the city agency that handles allegations of police misconduct and investigations into police-involved shootings — said this case remains under review, and could not provide additional information.

The attack led to the defeat of a bill to outlaw the death penalty in Connecticut, sparked tougher state laws for repeat offenders and home invasions and drew comparisons the crime described in Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood," which documented the brutal murders of a Kansas farmer and his family.

Is he firing everyone on his way out the door?

Basically, he was on the side of the "status quo"/Kremlin candidate Bibilov (who lost the election). Then Dzhioyeva's supporters came out on the streets. There was some sort of an agreement reached (with Russia's participation). Among the items of the agreement was that Kokoity should leave the President's office no later than Dec. 10; and that Bichenov should be fired.

Kokoity, according to lenta.ru, has sent the papers for firing of Bichenov, as well as of the chief State Prosecutor to the Parliament.

I dunno, but when you actually can reach such a radical agreement that the President leaves, and before leaving fires the head of the Supreme Court, you're in a position of power.

I'm glad it turned out this way. The powers-that-be became so arrogant that they stole Dzhioyeva's very clear victory, and such events should not go without consequences (even though at the end of the day SO is still an illegitimate entity). I hope she prevails in the end, but the struggle goes on.

Arab TV discloses plot to kill Khamenei, Iran minister

The TV mentioned secret reports obtained by its sources from the house of Ayatollah Khamenei which said the supreme leader had recently held a meeting with Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, chairman of Expediency Discernment Council.

The meeting held at an unknown location in Tehran discussed the intelligence pointing to an alleged plot to murder Khamenei and Rostem Qasemi.

Meanwhile, sources have said that Ayatollah Ali Khamemei had sent on forced retirement a dozen officials of Iran Revolutionary Guards. The reason for the move has not been made public.

Shortly after baby Lisa Irwin disappeared in October, Amy noticed other shoppers looking at her and her 10-month-old baby, Lucy, in the supermarket.

“I saw people peering down the aisles at me,” the Overland Park mother said. “But I convinced myself that they were probably just looking for a can of green beans or something.”

Then three older women surrounded her.

“How old is your baby?” they asked. One of them pulled down Lucy’s blanket and lifted the baby’s dress to inspect her legs.

Other shoppers whispered and pointed Amy’s way.

“They think this is baby Lisa,” she realized. The woman was checking Lucy’s leg for the birthmark on Lisa Irwin’s right thigh.

The incident — one of hundreds of potential baby Lisa sightings reported to police — ended with Overland Park officers following Amy home and leaving only after she presented Lucy’s vaccination records and insurance card.

I've been looking for rationale from the Occupy movment on the port shutdown against the wishes on unions and workers. Here's the Port Shutdown page: They're just pretending the unions support them.
Meanwhile in the real world....
Port Union Leaders: We Don't Want Occupy's Help

“It’s presumptuous of them to say they’re shutting down our port in solidarity with us,” said Richard Mead, president of the Bay Area local ILWU affiliate, during an interview in his hiring hall office.

Two dozen rank-and-file longshoremen interviewed this week offered mixed views of the plan, with workers upset about the protest outnumbering supporters about three to one.

“It’s bizarre for one group of people to announce what’s best for 20,000 workers without having any conversations, and without respecting our union’s decision making process,” said Craig Merrilees, a spokesman for the International Longshore and Workers Union.

In a letter Wednesday to local chapters, ILWU President Robert McEllrath accused the Occupy movement of meddling.

That "99%" slogan just isn't going to work.

Father, Malik Mohammad Aslam, demanded that she be punished for the nude photo shoot.

Pakistani actress and model Veena Malik has denied modeling for the magazine FHM. She claims that the pictures were fake and doctored.

Mid-Day reported that this claim by Veena Malik did not please her father. In an outburst he made it known that he has disowned her and severed all ties with her.

He also does not want his daughter to return to India once the scandal is over.

He suggested punishment for her so that no other woman would think of repeating such an act.

She would make a great hoosier, she can be my neighbor!

Of course they're concerned with protecting their paycheck. Isn't that the whole point of supporting workers? The longshoremen union has a statement up on their website supporting OWS. It seems short sighted and callous for OWS to hurt their supporters.

Is that not exactly the attitude a union has toward a wildcat strike? Take a look at the Longshoremans web link. Heres the quote

Speaking of mistaken identity stories:

William Giraldo was jailed and threatened after being wrongly accused of being Brooklyn serial sex fiend
Police pressured Giraldo to confess, then sent him to Rikers until DNA proved his innocence
[Link: www.nydailynews.com...]

Brooklyn livery driver William Giraldo’s buddies were laughing when they called him one day in June to say he looked just like a guy in a video of a rape suspect.

Busy with wedding plans, Giraldo laughed it off, too — until that night, when he sat at the computer with his fiancee and found the grainy footage.

He was stunned the man on the screen, wanted for a terrifying series of sex attacks, didn’t just look like him — it was him.

“I panicked,” he said. “I didn’t know what was going on.”

From that moment, Giraldo was trapped in a nightmare that grew scarier at every turn.

He was picked out of a lineup, arraigned on his wedding day, sent to Rikers, threatened with deportation.

It wasn’t until five months later — a month in detention and agonizing weeks of uncertainty — that DNA cleared him and charges were dropped.

“They destroyed my life — and they didn’t even say sorry,” Giraldo, 25, told the Daily News.

OWS is protesting the policies of the corporation EGT. The shutdown IMO is a horrible idea, they should go for high visibility short of a shut down. Maybe cause some delays and then back off. But unfortunately the reality is if they are too well behaved, not making any waves their protests (despite some serious merit) are ignored. Or dismissed as frivolous. So to even get the worst out they have to raise the visibility of any actions taken.

This comes back to the factors that worked against OLA that I wrote about previously. Damned if they do screwed if they don't.

Of course the union guys are lo0king out for their own paychecks, while at least in the abstract having no problem with the reasons for the protest. This is more like a wildcat strike than anything else.

"Longeshoreman in Longview are currently in a bitter fight with the multinational grain exporter EGT, and port truckers in LA are fighting to unionize against Goldman Sachs-owned SSA.

"

They oppose the shut down because it threatens their pay.

This part is true as can be Link from Longshoremens web

It's the same sort of attitude the protesters displayed towards small businesses near the camps. They didn't care that they were hurting other people's ability to make a living. Also the same attitude towards the cities who strained budgets accommodating the protesters.
Although some people may be attracted to the movement because of serious concerns I'm still left with the impression that overall it's just a generic protest movement. It doesn't make any difference what the cause is, they just like to protest. Camping in parks and shutting down ports has nothing to do with banks. It's protesting for the sake of protesting.

Liberal Portland mayor emerges as Occupy critic

Adams is one of several mayors who, despite expressing sympathy with the Occupy movement, said his duty to maintain law and order compelled him to send in police to dismantle protest camps.
...
"I am a liberal progressive, but I also get to have an opinion on the movement, and I'm going to put it out there," Adams told Reuters. "Because any good movement has to be nimble, and this one so far hasn't been."

The mayor said he has watched the nationwide Occupy protests "devolve to fighting with liberal mayors in liberal cities."
...
Adams at one point used Twitter to call an Occupy event a "dance party in a public space." The mayor said he has been encouraging protesters to aim their ire away from local governments and instead pursue a national grass-roots effort focused on changing national policies.

That's quite true of a certain (I'd say maybe 20-25% at LA) segment. Yet it's misleading if you then ignore the strong issue activists in there. When you say generic, that is largely true because they have rightly refused to be co-opted by those larger forces that are in fact a big part of the problem. But lacking the weight of a big PAC, let alone party or major union it's easy to dismiss them. Catch 22.

While the community pickets of the port are being organized by the Occupy Oakland Port Shutdown Committee, rank-and-file unionists have been actively involved in every level of the organizing.

"The rank and file of the ILWU I've talked to say there is no way they are going to cross a community picket line." said Anthony Lavierge, a member of ILWU Local 10. "When I'm working on the port, 90% of the truckers I talk to are enthusiastic."

re: #280 SanFranciscoZionist

From this-
EGT Development built and operates a terminal at Longview port in Washington, however the ILWU says the company has reneged on a Port of Longview contract that specified only ILWU labour could be used at the site. On 8 September hundreds of ILWU members stormed the terminal, a day after blocking railroads so grain could not reach Longview.

One can see the deep divide among labor about how to deal with EGT. That would not be the first time union leaders have taken a minority decision and imposed it via "union fealty". At this point it's a debate about tactics.

The problem is, there's really no way for me to test that reality. If they go ahead, ILWU will probably tell their guys not to cross the line for safety's sake. Occupy will claim popular support.

Of course, if they DO cross, Occupy will claim that they were bought out, and that it was only a few. ILWU will claim otherwise.

Yeah, the unions seem pretty pissed....

Craig Merrilees, communications director at the ILWU, told the Guardian that the union was "not supporting that at all".

"[Occupy organisers] have been very disrespectful of the democratic decision-making process in the union and deliberately went around that process to call their own action without consulting workers," Merrilees said.

"It's the second time they've done it. The first time they had very little support from workers in their so-called general strike [the Occupy Oakland action on 2 November].

"This is being promoted by a group of people who apparently think they can call general strikes and workplace shutdowns without talking to workers and without involving the unions."

That's why I've been looking around to see how the OWS crowd is rationalizing the port shutdown. Judging from their website they're just pretending the unions support them.

I missed this screwed up story out of Portland:

Washougal man had ties to white supremacists, once threatened his family in Idaho
[Link: www.oregonlive.com...]

Authorities had little information to share this morning about the man who terrorized a Washougal neighborhood for 90 minutes Wednesday by spraying the area with gunfire from a burning house, but he apparently had ties to white supremacists when he lived in Idaho 16 years ago.
.....
An Associated Press story at the time quoted Bonner County Sheriff Chip Ross saying Stanbary "had enough ammunition for World War II" and considered Randy Weaver of Ruby Ridge notoriety a hero. The Columbian quoted Ross, now retired, as saying the Stanbary case was among many white supremacy investigations in northern Idaho at the time.

with an update yesterday:

Washougal man wanted on sex crimes allegations before his house burned to ground in a spray of bullets
[Link: www.oregonlive.com...]

The man who lived at a Washougal, Wash., home that burned to the ground Wednesday amid a barrage of gunfire was scheduled to surrender to police on suspected sex crimes the following day, authorities said today.

Steven D. Stanbary, 47, was the target of an investigation into "multiple" sex crimes by Washougal police, said Sgt. Kevin Allais of the Clark County Sheriff's Office. He declined to specify the crimes.
.....
New details of Steve Stanbary's past emerged from court records about a confrontation he had on Christmas Eve 1994 in Elmira, Idaho, when he threatened to kill himself, his ex-wife and her boyfriend when his ex-wife came to pick up three of her children.

Stanbary refused to allow the children -- a 7-year-old boy and 4 and 11-year-old girls -- to go with his former wife, saying: "Christmas is a satanic holiday," according to the records kept in the state archive in Boise.

According to his ex-wife, Debra Hughes, and her friend, Alan Trejo, Stanbary pointed a gun at her and threatened to kill her, Trejo and the children if she took them, the documents said. Trejo told police that Stanbary was preparing for the end of the world and had assault weapons and gas guns in the house. Hughes said he had been diagnosed by a doctor in Oregon with delusional schizophrenia.
.....
Police confiscated 27 firearms, including six AK-47 military rifles, numerous rifles and pistols, black powder, a gas mask and a grenade launcher, records show. Ammunition was found in every weapon.

He had 15 years to restock.

Well, as the Conspirator said, there may be a split between union leadership and the guys on the dock. Hardly the first time that's happened. There may be significant minority support from within the union.

I have to confess that I suspect the Occupiers as a general group of wanting to close down the port more than they want to support the union in this particular dispute. That's the prize for them. The union would probably be happy to use them as additional lungs and feet if they were interested in closing, but at the present time...oh hell, this is Craig Merrilees' problem, not mine.
