Another Crazy Right Wing Anti-Shariah Bill in Pennsylvania

Xenophobia rampant in the GOP
Wingnuts • Views: 17,468

Once again, Republican politicians are pandering to the lowest, most bigoted element of society with an unnecessary, clearly discriminatory bill that would ban shariah law from Pennsylvania courts.

Shariah law is not currently being used by Pennsylvania courts, and in fact the US Constitution specifically bans such a thing and has for centuries. But when you’re pandering to haters and bigots, logic goes right out the window.

The right wing xenophobe behind this one is State Rep. RoseMarie Swanger, who is also sponsoring a bill to make English the “official language” of Pennsylvania. Of course.

M-m-my Shariah. Seriously this crap is just dumb. We'll look back on this paranoia and wonder what the fuck we were thinking.

My magic rock seems to be working pretty well keeping Sharia out of my hair. Maybe I can sell it in Pennsylvania.

6 Obdicut  Thu, Dec 15, 2011 9:44:26am

If they're not careful in crafting these laws, they'll ban laws that are obviously based on Christianity too. Wouldn't want that.

Do you have a rock to make lunch breaks longer???
Later gators.
Be ever vigilant of the creeping salami. Or something.

According to the theocrats, that's every law on the books in the US. So wouldn't that result in anarchy?

Rural PA has mountains and valleys of it.

I would personally like to sponsor a bill to ban the code of Aethelbert from the courts.

It's very discriminatory. The weregild for a slave wasn't even close to the weregild for a freeman. That's just wrong, as we're all equal in the site of God.

And don't even get me started on the fact that the bot for going through an earl's tun was more than the bot for going through a freeman's tun.

On a lot of license plates here in PA.
(One of the special plates that can be ordered is a Zoological plate that has a Bengal Tiger on it.)

It sounds much like the rural Ozarks area in Missouri. The latest rep they sent to the House of Representatives boasted "We were Tea Party before Tea Party was cool."

Heh my former Congressman literally just said that Tuesday night.

And this is my state, too. You would not believe the crazy stuff that is coming out of the state legislature right now.

re: #8 dragonfire1981

This is the state that elected Toomey... and he was from a "Democratic leaning" district, the PA-15th.

Here's an example of how they are trying to undermine even the most basic of environmental regulations. It's pretty bad.

By the way as a grandson of Pittsburghers everyone of yinz knows that Pittsburghnese should be the official language of Pa. And, as someone who frequently goes to PA, it's seems that it's more like - Alabama, Philly, Alabama, Pittsburgh, Alabama (especially when coming from Southern NJ). The 2008 electoral map doesn't quite do that justice, since you've got a whole lot of craziness just outside Philly in all directions (including plastering billboards with anti-evolution nonsense).

Yeah, I was born and raised north of Pittsburgh (and came back to live here again 20 years ago after a dozen years running around the US), closer to Erie than the 'Berg but we still get the weekenders coming up talking that Pittsburghese.

You're not getting this at all, are you? Earls are wealth producers. We need to give them higher bot, or they'll outsource their barley production jobs to Norway.

(Interesting detail--the English word 'lord' literally goes back to roots that mean 'the bread guardian'. 'Lady' means 'bread kneader'. And the old Saxon word for a household servant literally means 'loaf eater'. The whole early English concept of nobility is of people who protect and distribute the food supply.)
