Andrew Breitbart’s ‘Big Journalism’ Bloggers Use Antisemitic Nazi-Era Cartoon

The far right roots of Andrew Breitbart’s bloggers come bursting to the surface

This is just mind-boggling.

On at least three occasions in the past year, bloggers at Andrew Breitbart’s “Big Journalism” website have posted a modified image that comes directly from a virulently antisemitic Nazi-era German magazine: Cartoon Regularly Featured On Big Journalism Connected To Nazi-Era Magazine.

The image appeared in a Big Journalism post Thursday morning credited to Logan Churchwell, director of public relations at Accuracy in Media…

That image has since been removed from the post. Big Journalism, which is edited by CNN contributor Dana Loesch, also used the cartoon in a January 8 blog post credited to Warner Todd Huston, and in a July 2 post…

The cartoon appears to have originated in a 1942 edition of the German magazine Kladderadatsch.

Heidelberg University in Germany maintains an online archive of Kladderadatsch. From the magazine’s March 29, 1942, edition:

So, they just have Nazi propaganda lying around and its no big deal to use it to make their point if they think no one will notice?

Good to know.

Very sad - Christopher Hitchens died tonight.

No, no, it’s ok, see, because they took the Star of David off and added Obama’s symbol on the jacket. See, totally different. And I mean, if the Left dares Godwin them on this, that explanation will totally take the wind out of their sails! Ha! Well played Breitbart.

Linky? I do hope he didn’t suffer. Such an erudite and articulate man. Blessings to his family. And Peace be with them.

I hadn’t even known he was sick til I looked it up just now. Seems cancer has claimed another shining star this year. My condolences to his family and friends.

Your move, Allen West.

Your move, Allen West.

And if West is true to his oath, he needs to cut ties to Breitbart.

As for the thread topic: wow. That’s gonna leave a mark.

That’s really nauseating.

Somebody was aware they were using a Nazi cartoon, and used it anyway.

One wonders if they approved, or disapproved, of the original meaning.

Honestly, if they were in their early 20’s (and not Jewish) they probably wouldn’t understand the significance.

We haven’t done a good enough job of teaching history.

I wish I could express some sort of shock or surprise at this, but that’s not possible.

I can honestly believe that these people deliberately used a Nazi image and that they knew damn well what it was and what it means. Nothing about the far right in this country shocks me anymore.

Just when I think the breitbart crew has reached a new low, they somehow manage to go lower and deeper. Sickening.

Hmmm, I am of two minds here, and will reply to you as a jumping-off place.

Yeah, it was obvious they did know, because they carefully out the Star of David.

But, I honestly (to borrow your phrase) don’t think they meant it to be offensive to Jews (in fact, I think they wanted to be very careful not to offend Jews (hence their editing) no matter how poorly they may have not accomplished that), but to show their contempt for the Liberal Media (as they see it). I can’t get too offended by this (but I will definitely never tell anyone else they shouldn’t be), but I can see where it still reflects poorly on them.

I not only had NO IDEA you could search for images like this, I have always thought it would be “so cool” if we could, and been upset by the “lack of ability” to do this - & yet it was right there all along (kinda like those ruby slippers being able to take me home, I just didn’t know they could)! Can’t thank you enough for sharing!

Conservative bigot is conservative, and bigoted.

Another version of this image, with neither the Star of David nor the Obama campaign logo, appeared here in September 2010. Notice the author of the article gives a hat tip to Breitbart.

Given that the words “MEDIA BIAS” appear on both this version of the image and the version used by Big Journalism, it appears that someone from Big Journalism picked up this version of the image and added the Obama logo. It’s still very embarrassing for them that nobody realized the image’s origins (the man’s stereotypically Jewish facial features in combination with the controlling-the-media meme should have set off alarm bells), but it’s not quite as nefarious as knowingly lifting the image direct from a Nazi magazine.

As an aside, I knew Warner Todd Huston in a previous incarnation when he used to troll web forums on the now-defunct ezboard network. It comes as absolutely no surprise to me that such a prize example of wingnuttery now writes for Breitbart.

I wonder what, if anything, Ben Stein and Dennis Prager will have to say about this. Because, you know, the leftists are the real anti-Semites.
