Newt Gingrich Tells Gay Man: Vote for Obama

How much does Newt Gingrich hate gay people?
Politics • Views: 20,801

It’s no secret that the Republican Party has made it part of their platform to spread hatred for gay people, but nevertheless most Republicans try to put a smiley face on it, and avoid coming right out and saying how they really feel.

Except Newt Gingrich, who was asked by a gay man yesterday how he plans to engage with the gay community.

Gingrich’s answer: “Vote for Obama.”

Oskaloosa, Ia. – Newt Gingrich told a gay man and longtime resident of Oskaloosa here today that he should vote for President Obama.

“I asked him if he’s elected, how does he plan to engage gay Americans. How are we to support him? And he told me to support Obama,” said Scott Arnold, an adjunct professor of writing at William Penn University.”

Newt apparently hates gays so much he’ll even pass up their votes. For a career politician like Gingrich, that’s very revealing.

He thinks their numbers are so small as to be irrelevant? Or that they are so degenerate that they wouldn’t vote?

WTF?

He’s desperate to win Iowa, so is going for the “Holier Than Thou” vote in any way he can. It’s rather refreshing to see the GOP lift the mask more and more as desperation sets in.

At least Newt’s consistent. Every day he wakes up, he’s a prick. You can bank on it.

6 Mostly sane, most of the time.  Wed, Dec 21, 2011 11:19:23am

I think this is what certain Republican leadership peoples meant when they called him, essentially, erratic and unpredictable.

7 lawhawk  Wed, Dec 21, 2011 11:19:35am

No, he probably thinks that this will enhance his street cred with the GOP so-cons who he needs to come out in numbers to vote for him in Iowa. It’s a last gasp attempt to try and salvage a dying campaign. He’d willingly throw gays under the bus to win the nomination.

More to the point, one has to wonder what the Log Cabin Republicans are thinking right about now. They’ve got to deal with two GOP candidates for president who have taken such a bass-ackward position on gays that Newt’s openly telling gays to vote for Obama rather than him. Bachmann would hope to pray away the gay.

Log Cabin Republicans
‎”It is irresponsible and sensationalist to twist this exchange into a blanket rejection of gay votes. As Gingrich himself said, gay voters who care about job creation, national security and a better future for America should consider supporting his campaign. For those who are single issue voters on marriage, the truth is that President Obama isn’t up to their standards, either.”

they are no longer afraid of public displays of Hate in order to pander to their 20% or so of America.

The culture of Fox News has become so brazen and tacky they actually feel they can ignore or disparage large swaths of the American population and be rewarded. There are various time in a country’s history that are documented as low points. Just like the Conservative movements in the 1850’s and the 1930’s, the 2000’s have been a very low point in the history of America as the far right backwards forces have assumed a larger and larger share of power. And it will once again be up to Progressives to clean up the mess as the fear and hysteria die down, as they always have.

At a guess, he’s calculated that losing the tiny proportion of gays who vote Republican is more than worth exciting the much larger anti-homosexual base in his favor.

[edited to add]
That is, for the primary. I also think that he believes any Republican will defeat Obama — that it’s a lock for 2012 due to the economy. So whoever wins the GOP primary will be the next president.

If Romney wins the nomination, he’ll be able to say that he didn’t really take a stand and so they shouldn’t assume that he’s anti-gay, which is true only in that Romney’s not taken a stand on anything except a dozen or so debate stages so far.

TPM had an article yesterday about how Newt’s “I’ll arrest a judge I disagree with” ramblings are in a similar vein. He’s doing it to rile up the ultra conservatives, much like Perry’s “I really don’t like gay soldiers” bullshit a few weeks back.

My husband and I once went on a big camping trip in Arizona in the early spring.

He went down with a friend, and I drove with the friend’s girlfriend.

We got stopped in the mountains for a while, because snow had closed the road.

We got in about two or three AM. Went and found the guys.

We had all the bedding with us, but they had put up separate tents, and were freezing in separate tents, wearing all the clothes they had.

I asked why they hadn’t gotten under the blanket they had together and shared body heat. They looked at me like I was insane.

Abbas meets woman who aided 2001 murder of Israeli

Abbas met Amna Muna in Turkey, along with 10 other former prisoners who were released and banished there as part of a deal that freed an Israeli soldier held captive by Gaza’s militant Hamas group.

Muna, a 35-year-old West Bank woman, was serving a life sentence for using an Internet promise of romance to lure 16-year-old Ophir Rahum to the West Bank, where he was killed by waiting militants. Her mother, Samira, insists her daughter never intended for her victim to be killed.

Palestinian society generally reveres the prisoners as freedom fighters.

Disgusting and what amazes me is that we have to have this shoved down our throats but yet we cannot display a nativity scene in front of a courthouse or we cannot say “Merry Christmas”, we have to say “Happy Holidays” or the whole Tebowing offends people. You know, religion is based on love and faith and hope and trust, nothing ugly or demented but it is okay for this to be displayed or it is okay for NFL players to act like they are shooting up the crowd when they make a big play. This country is already in the toilet and our priorites are all screwed up. I am all for what ever your sexual lifestyle is, but you know what? I am sick and tired of having this constantly around and I cannot live a normal conservative life without MY lifestyle offending someone. Amazing and idiotic!!!

Barton: Hate Crimes Legislation Designed to Imprison Pastors

Barton was discussing the importance of Christians voting and voting their values because it is the values of those who vote that are reflected in Congress. Saying that Christians had stayed home in 2006, Barton said the result was that Congress then felt free to try and pass things like Hate Crimes Legislation that protected gays and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

And then, in typical Barton fashion, he flat-out lied as he asserted that Hate Crimes legislation was designed specifically to imprison pastors for preaching against homosexuality from their pulpits while the purpose of ENDA was to force churches to hire gays:

It should be pointed out that Hate Crimes Legislation was signed into law in October 2009 and not one pastor, priest, or preacher has yet been charged with a hate crime for preaching against homosexuality.

Lots of people ignoring many things. For instance the global economic downturn and the negative impact due to the continuing Eurozone crisis.

Having to deal with congress, especially in these times, is something any president would have to face. They’re not magicians as we obviously know and can’t rule nor lead by decree.

I think for the Democratic base, they might argue that the actual bills for health care, wall street reform and credit card reform, were so watered down that they did not do much to fulfill the mandate they gave him. That while partially true is also typical from an ideologue, and not a pragmatist. Furthermore, the failings may not have only been his own, but may fall as much or more on Pelosi and Reid for mismanagement of the process.

I’d say it’s somewhat inaccurate to say that “Newt Gingrich Tells Gay Man To Vote For Obama.”

re: #117 Slumbering Behemoth

Matt Damon is not happy. Poor guy.

George Clooney disagrees with Matt Damon and thinks Matt is a WATB.

George Clooney tells ABC that he’s, “disillusioned by the people who are disillusioned by Obama.”

The actor goes on to complain that if Barack Obama was a Republican than he would be sold as a success.

Via ABC:

GOERGE CLOONEY: I’m disillusioned by the people who are disillusioned by Obama, quite honestly, I am. Democrats eat their own. Democrats find singular issues and go, ‘Well, I didn’t get everything I wanted.’ I’m a firm believer in sticking by and sticking up for the people whom you’ve elected.

If he was a Republican running, because Republicans are better at this, they’d be selling him as the guy who stopped 400,000 jobs a month from leaving the country. They’d be selling him as the guy who saved the auto-industry. If they had the beliefs, they’d be selling him as the guy who got rid of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’ who got Osama bin Laden. You could be selling this as a very successful three years. […]

I’m with Clooney. Perhaps Matt should focus on making movies people want to see again.

What would you say is more accurate?

I once got a negative response to “Merry Christmas”. From an alcoholic, who preferred “Happy Christmas”.
