And right at the front of the list of holiday deals when I looked was Friskie's Meaty Bits Diet Chicken Dinner. Just what you'd want to find under the tree on Christmas morning.

Well, there was a nice camera tripod, but I've already got one. If a Canon 60D was on there, I would probably have jumped at that opportunity.

Left the crust un-cut on my pumpkin pie for my team's pot-luck lunch today...actually made the slices quite pretty with their long crust handles.

Here's the pie before it settled (fresh out of the oven)

I saw a 12 megapixel digital camera with auto-stabilization going for $60. Discounted from $200.

I think that deal's expired now, but watch the Lightning Deals - some things are going for up to 90% off.

I could use a full-sized digital camera.

Cat food's not available for a few hours yet.

For me, it's between the 60D and the 7D. The 60D is winning that one so far. I'm sticking with Canon since I've invested so much in Canon gear for my other cameras.

The question becomes, am I really needing that upgrade, or can I take shots with what I have (the XTi, which is 5 years old). Or, is it just tech lust for the new gear.

Assholes.

Tennessee Hospital Prevents Lesbian From Visiting Partner

Val Burke wants answers after Rolling Hills Hospital in Franklin, Tennessee denied multiple requests she made to visit her partner in the hospital. Her partner is currently a patient in the hospital’s residential facility, and staff members have excluded her from the room because she is not a legal spouse or a family member.

Burke stated that “I went to visit her at the appropriate visiting time and was turned away. We have been living together for three years now, but that didn’t matter to them either. The rest of her family is out of town, so she didn’t have any one visit her.”

In the past, Burke was granted visitation rights, but only while her partner’s mother was there. Under federal regulations, however, patients at most hospitals are allowed to choose who is allowed to visit them. Those regulations cover all hospitals that take Medicare or Medicaid. The hospitals are also required to put visitation policies in writing including any “clinically necessary or reasonable restrictions” which could restrict visitor access.

Rolling Hills participates in Medicare and Medicaid, and are subject to those regulations. The Tennessee Equality Project contacted the facility on Sunday and informed the administration of the incident. According to Chris Sanders, the administration addressed this issue with staff on Monday, and he said “(This) is a very troubling report and it reminds us of the importance of this rule change that recently went into effect. When we are at our most vulnerable, we need to be able to choose who visits us in the hospital.”

Yep...that's what I'm talking about...I'll wait until they're under 1,000 dollars...then I'll probably wait until they're about 800. Or I'll get frustrated and pay full price.

Here's a great camera for $700: Canon EOS Rebel T3i 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera and DIGIC 4 Imaging with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens.

Canon calls this one an "upper entry level" digital SLR.

I finally went digital this Christmas - micro 4/3s. I got the 12mp Olympus E-PL1 with kit lens (14-42 (28-84 35mm equivalent)/slow to slower) but I can get adaptors for all of my old glass as well. Nikon Pre-AI, Canon FD, Leica TM - they will all work on it and that finally made going digital even part time worth it for me. Still can't replace the 4x5 though ;)

Oh, man. This little Olympus does 6x6 aspect ratio. The good old TLR square. All I need now is to find where to set the default to B&W & I'll be set like the old fart I am.

I'm going to be in Brooklyn where 5 of my kids live, including my daughter who will be making the Big Engagement Announcement with her boyfriend, on New Year's Day.

As far as emergencies, just hope we don't experience any on the I-80. Clear weather is predicted.

The hour or so I was on I-80 yesterday was construction zone free other than a lane shift while crossing the Susquehanna River.
