Fox Celebrates Christmas: Obama is a ‘Skinny Ghetto Crackhead’

Indistinguishable from comments at neo-Nazi site Stormfront

The racist commentary has become almost unbelievably overt at Fox News. Today’s example is from the Sean Hannity show with Mark Steyn hosting, as Media Research Center chief Brent Bozell says President Obama looks like a “skinny ghetto crackhead.”

Mark Steyn’s reaction to this blatantly bigoted remark: a chuckle.

Remember the good old days, when criticizing the president got you labeled un-American?

Nowadays, disrespecting the president gets you on TV.

Bozell should be ashamed of himself, but he's far too stupid for that.

No, no I'm pretty sure you have to be one or the other.

Skinny ghetto crackheads do NOT eat arugula.

I don't either, but I've never so much as seen crack, so I suppose I have no category to fit myself into.

I suspect that there's a fairly large chunk of American society that consumes neither crack nor arugula.

Meh, this one's a wash. He hedges his bets by saying "imagine the outrage if I said....". The Chris Mathews quote they're discussing is pretty bad but not quite as classless.

I canceled my cable TV service a couple of years ago, and I really don't have a need for it these days. Of course, Fox is bundled with a bunch of other TV channels, but do you really need any of those? It's time people started to vote with their wallets on this.

re: #4 EmmmieG

He's uppity because he doesn't publicly admit to being a skinny ghetto crackhead, and conform to the socially-mandated, non-arugula-eating, behavior patterns of a skinny ghetto crackhead. In fact, he dares to present himself as a civil, educated family man.

No, actually he did make these words his own. Here's the quote:

BOZELL: How long do you think Sean Hannity's show would last if four times in one sentence, he made a comment about, say, the President of the United States, and said that he looked like a skinny, ghetto crackhead? Which, by the way, you might want to say that Barack Obama does. Everybody on the left would come forward and demand he be fired within five minutes for being so insulting towards a leader of the United States.

Watch the video. He co-signs on this one.

That's a gateway to a hard-core radicchio habit. Next thing you know, you're shambling through the farmer's market begging for a few leaves of escarole.

17 Mostly sane, most of the time.  Fri, Dec 23, 2011 11:23:35am

My husband grew up on iceberg lettuce with mayonnaise dressing as a "salad."

He hated it, growing up.

I introduced him to such finery as croutons, romaine lettuce, and dressings with spices in them. Oh, and bacon bits.

Now he eats a salad about five times a week.

I suppose he is growing uppity.

The great thing about that stuff is that it stays fresh for up to three weeks, if you take care of it. It's still alive! Unwind the roots and give it a little water.

Where are we supposed to get NHL games without cable? I don't have cable either, so I only get to watch the games at my in-laws in Canada.

This is a rhetorical stretch, but I can honestly say that I feel the same way about not paying for Fox News (and, for that matter, those execreable "pundits" on CNN and MSNBC) as I do about not eating "land animals" (I'm a longtime pesca-vegetarian). It's nice to look at a dog or a cat, or a chicken or cow for that matter, and know that I don't participate in the hellacious "meat industry". And my feeling about not paying for cable is not that different from my feeling about not eating meat: I can read this LGF post, about racism on Fox, and experience some MEANING in the fact that I don't help to support that.

In today's Information Age, I have a feeling you'll be able to find alternatives to ESPN... and meanwhile, enjoy your visits to your in-laws anyway.

"How long do you think Sean Hannity's show would last if four times in one sentence, he made a comment about, say, the President of the United States, and said that he looked like a skinny, ghetto crackhead?" Bozell wondered.

Huh. That's a decent point. Matthew's comments were equally out of line, and an appeal to rational discourse instead of ad hominem crazytalk is appreciated.

"Which, by the way, you might want to say that Barack Obama does."

*facepalm*

Here's the problem. You don't get to just tack on that cutesy little dig as a red-meat throw to the actual biggoted asshats in your audience, and have your overall point remain intact. Your entire argument has been reduced to the level of the lowest statement you make.

At an old office job I had CA, we used to coordinate with an office in NY. A couple of them thought it was clever to refer to my area as the "Left Coast", and theirs as the "Right Coast".

I corrected them by saying, anatomically speaking CA is on the right coast, while NY is on the left. For some reason they did not find that humorous.

A pleonasm is like a tautology without the two terms being congruent.

So, saying someone is an "educated guy with a PhD", that's a pleonasm, since anyone with a PhD is educated. But it's not a tautology, since they don't mean the same thing. Saying someone was a jarhead Marine would be a tautology, since the two terms mean the same thing.

re: #105 SanFranciscoZionist

Why is the article emphasizing that? Isn't that usual?

Probably because of this:

A judge ruled Monday that James' husband since 1969, Artis Mills, would keep decision-making control over her finances and her healthcare, but released only $350,000 for the singer's medical costs from her $1-million estate instead of the half-million Mills had requested. According to Mills, James' at-home care runs about $30,000 a month. Donto James, Sametto's brother, had requested a temporary conservatorship because of concerns over those expenses and his mother's care.

Oh my...

In the April 1993 Ron Paul Survival Report, the author—writing in the first person—states, “Whether [the 1993 World Trade Center bombing] was a setup by the Israeli Mossad, as a Jewish friend of mine suspects, or was truly a retaliation by the Islamic fundamentalists, matters little.” The newsletters also warns readers to “do your very best to keep your family away from inner cities. re: #133 Fat Bastard Vegetarian

The salt content in the brine is higher than the salt content in the turkey. Soaking the turkey in the brine creates a salt imbalance that the process of osmosis attempts to correct.

The brine solution, and any herbs and spices within it, get sucked into the turkey at a cellular level. Not only does this infuse the turkey with flavor, but it also breaks down the connective tissue in the meat, making it more tender and juicy.

Any other questions?

Your wife would not like my bookshelf, hahaha

Dr. Bronner will not end up in a Waco-like situation. This I feel confident about.

What a shootout involving Dr. Bronner might look like:

And having viewed the clip, I concur in saying shame on Brent Bozell for flinging that insult at Obama, and shame as well (though to a lesser degree) on Mark Steyn for not calling him on it. But also shame on Chris Mathews for saying Newt Gingrich "looks like a car bomber", because that was also a ugly line.

Steyn should apologize for failing to take Bozell to task, and both Mathews and Bozell should be suspended from their jobs for their vile words.

One of the African-American then-teenagers shot by Bernhard Goetz in 1984 has died in a possible suicide.

A man who was injured by Manhattan subway gunman Bernhard Goetz has been found dead in what appears to be a drug overdose 27 years to the day after the shooting, NBCNewYork.com reported Friday.

James Ramseur, one of four then-teenagers wounded in the notorious 1984 incident, was discovered dead in a Bronx motel room on Thursday, with two empty prescription pill bottles next to the bed. The labels were scratched off of the bottles, The New York Daily News reported.

His death is being investigated as an apparent overdose and as a possible suicide, sources told The Daily News.

Two takeaways from the article:

Ramseur was freed from prison last year after serving 25 years for a rape, according to NBCNewYork.com.

According to Biography.com, Goetz still lives in New York City and has opened a store called Vigilante Electronics.

I don't mean this to be about race. Other black men have responded to both racism and being stopped from committing a crime (whichever you think the shooting incident was) with a determination to succeed and prove their detractors wrong. Ramseur made the wrong choice and committed a very serious crime. He wound up spending most of his life in prison, and like Brooks of The Shawshank Redemption, found himself ill prepared to deal with life once released. But given the horrendous hand life dealt him starting out, one must at least feel a small amount of pity for James Rameur. Goetz, on the other hand, was dealt a much better hand in life and after paying for his crime went back to playing it decently.

The fact that one man owns a business and the other died broken says a great deal about both how you get your start and how you live your life.

Goetz's actions were thought by many to be based on racism, and as such I thought that an article on the Goetz shooting automatically had race as an element. I also thought that discussing Goetz's relative success versus Ramseur's failure could possibly be taken the wrong way, so for both of those reasons I thought the disclaimer wise. I wanted to be clear I wasn't trying to say something racist via 'code words', as some on Fox News are wont to do.

BBL, but will reply then.

It's just nothing you were talking about had to do with race. You were talking about background having an effect on outcome, which is kind of indisputable.

If I were going to disagree with your optics, it wouldn't be about race as motive for shooting, but how Goetz's crime was perceived--and justified in public consciousness--through the filter of him middle class, "mad as hell and not going to take it," and, yeah, also as a white guy shooting for young black men with criminal records. It's the stuff modern jury nullification strategies are made of--a crime and perp you can market as not deserving the charge, a victim that's easy to make look deserving of what they got.

Basically, Goetz had a shit ton of privilege to cushion him. That his crime was/is lionized by any sub-segment of the society he dwells in sets him drastically apart from your typical ex-con. This is not a Horatio Alger bootstraps story.

Similarly, barring a lot more detail about Ramseur, I find your attributions about what prompted his suicide to be opportunistic and clearly derived from a desire for narrative contrast rather than actual knowledge of his intentions.
