Bachmann Bails, Perry Pondering

Maybe God was kidding
Politics • Views: 29,137

All the Republicans who said they’d gotten the go-ahead directly from God to run for President seem to be in trouble.

Michele Bachmann is reportedly bailing out today, and Rick Perry may not be far behind. Since Herman Cain already dropped out, you have to wonder if God is just messing with their heads.

Bachmann's quitting may turn out to be a good thing. Given her pronouncements about the HPV vaccine and mental retardation, she must possess profound medical knowledge. I mean, any idiot can go against climate science, but to go against the mainstream medical community... that's awesome! Now that she's no longer running for President, she'll have time to dedicate her great medical abilities to the service of humanity. Who knows what she might come up with?

All part of God's plan...

Perry Tweets, ‘Here We Come South Carolina’

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A determined Rick Perry said Wednesday he will not abandon his presidential campaign despite a fifth-place finish in the Iowa caucuses.

“And the next leg of the marathon is the Palmetto State. … Here we come South Carolina!!!,” the Texas governor wrote on his Twitter account.

Perry, an avid runner, attached a photo of himself jogging near a lake, wearing a Texas A&M running shorts and showing a thumbs-up.

Phone messages left with his campaign were not immediately returned Wednesday.

All in all, Bachmann's resume is pretty impressive on paper. I'm surprised she didn't do better with republicans. I still cannot believe Santorum got the last boost in Iowa.

re: #18 Fat Bastard Vegetarian

Exactly. Santorum spent what little money he had on hand going across the state and pretty much met every last one of those 30k voters who ended up supporting him in the caucus. Romney focused on a couple of urban areas and that was about it.

You don't have that luxury anywhere else in the country other than NH, which is up next. And Romney has a big advantage in the polling there. So, unless Santorum pulls something out of the hat (or goes even more extreme on his views), Santorum maxed out support and it's downhill from there). He doesn't have the campaign funds to last against Romney - and if Perry couldn't do it with the kind of warchest that Perry had, it's going to be even tougher for Santorum.

I think Romney has too big a dollar advantage, and I don't think Santorum's on the ballot in all states either (much like Gingrich and Perry, who both missed VA). Santorum might pull in some more donations with the showing in IA, but it's his turn in the hot seat and all the dirty laundry is going to come out in a big bad way for him.

Lots of looking around at how and why he only won one term as Senator in PA - and those ads can write themselves - too extreme for PA, too extreme for the US., etc.

re: #70 Simply Sarah

Oh, I knew I'd regret clicking that link. That picture makes me mad on so many levels.

Here is the inside story...

On the eve of the Iowa caucuses, Rep. Ron Paul just scored a big endorsement. “After polling all the girls,” says brothel owner and star of HBO’s Cathouse, Dennis Hof, “The Moonlite Bunny Ranch” has endorsed Ron Paul for president.

(The above picture was actually taken when the group endorsed Paul four years ago, but the 2012 endorsement is new.)

Though the group backed Paul four years ago, it was not a forgone conclusion they would endorse him again. “We thought real closely about supporting [Newt] Gingrich — because he’s a cheater — and we like cheaters,” said Hof.

Ultimately, though, they worried he might cheat on them.

And so, Hof organized a meeting of over 500 girls. “A lot of them supported Obama last time,” he said. But because he signed a bill allowing for human consumption of wild horses … the girls (who — after all — live on a ranch) don’t want any part of Obama.”

All politics is local, and unlike other states, Nevada (the “BunnyRanch is just outside of Carson City) allows its counties to license brothels. This is a point that surely impacted Hof’s decision to back Paul: “We decided to go with the guy that’s more about state’s rights — and that’s Ron Paul,” he said.

While most endorsements only benefit the candidate, Hof tells me this one comes with a special deal. During the month of January, he said, the ranch is offering two bunnies for the price of one. All you have to do is come in and say: “I”m pimping for Paul.”

LOL!

re: #77 Fat Bastard Vegetarian

How do you catch a squirrel?
Climb up a tree and act like a nut.

nuts (adj.) Look up nuts at Dictionary.com
"crazy," 1846, from earlier be nutts upon "be very fond of" (1785), which is possibly from nuts (n., pl.) "any source of pleasure" (1610s), from nut (q.v.). Sense influenced probably by metaphoric application of nut to "head" (1846, e.g. to be off one's nut "be insane," 1860).

Connection with the slang "testicle" sense has tended to nudge it toward taboo. "On the N.B.C. network, it is forbidden to call any character a nut; you have to call him a screwball." ["New Yorker," Dec. 23, 1950] "Please eliminate the expression 'nuts to you' from Egbert's speech." [Request from the Hays Office regarding the script of "The Bank Dick," 1940] This desire for avoidance accounts for the euphemism nerts (c.1925).
