Andrew Breitbart and ‘The Turner Diaries’

A tale of right wing dishonesty and ugly hatred
Wingnuts • Views: 35,935

This morning we have yet another sordid tale of right wing dishonesty and smear tactics — and for once they’re not attacking the black President. They’re after me. And you won’t believe the ridiculous nonsense they’re circulating all over the right wing blogs and Twitter, with help from none other than the King of Fraud himself, Andrew Breitbart.

Our story begins with the Page posted over the weekend by LGF user “goddamnedfrank:” ‘Diary of Daedalus’ Stalker Blog Links to Pro-Turner Diaries Video.

At one of the blogs dedicated to relentlessly stalking and libeling LGF users and me, Frank discovered that one of the administrators, a vile creature who calls himself “Rodan” (real name: Rick Martinez), had posted a threatening video addressed to me — a video that openly praised Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, and promoted the ugly white supremacist novel “The Turner Diaries” with images of the Oklahoma City bombing. This blog has also often posted articles denying the Serbian genocide against Muslims, praising Serbian war criminals such as Ratko Mladic and Slobodan Milosevic as heroes and patriots.

If you’re not familiar with “The Turner Diaries,” it’s a novel by neo-Nazi William Luther Pierce (under the pseudonym “Andrew Macdonald”), about a violent revolution in the United States that leads to the mass murder of all Jews and non-whites. Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh cited this evil book as one of the inspirations for his terrorist act.

The video posted at the stalker blog included pictures of people executed by hanging and other menacing imagery, and it has since been removed by YouTube. Here’s their reason:

This video has been removed as a violation of YouTube’s policy on shocking and disgusting content.

You probably won’t be surprised to learn that the video was apparently produced by white supremacists connected with the Stormfront neo-Nazi site; read the comments for Frank’s Page for more information on this.

This is where it gets interesting, because Andrew Breitbart and his cohort Dana Loesch have been frequently linking to this stalker blog (despite its long history of genocide denial), when they want to attack me on Twitter. And Breitbart’s ego has been horribly stung recently by my revelations of the ugly hate speech posted all over the comments of his websites, and nearly every other right wing site.

The geniuses at the stalker blog decided to counter-attack.

Since LGF pointed out that they’re posting neo-Nazi videos praising The Turner Diaries, it became necessary for them to try to turn the tables and use The Turner Diaries against me.

So, in a monumentally mendacious smear, they went to my custom Amazon store, used the form at the top left of the page to search for “turner diaries,” and promptly posted the search results page all over Twitter and their blogs, claiming that I was deliberately selling this book in my personal Amazon store.

Here’s the screenshot they posted:

Go ahead and try it yourself; you can search for anything on my Amazon store page, and the search results will be displayed exactly as shown above.

Needless to say, I absolutely did not pick The Turner Diaries as one of my featured products — and they know it. They’re simply flat-out lying in a blatant attempt to smear my reputation.

And then, here came Andrew Breitbart, parroting their dishonest smears (in a reply to one of the anonymous stalkers):

It’s bad enough that Breitbart frequently links to a blog run by Serbian genocide deniers, but now he’s actually promoting something he must know is nothing more than an outright lie. What you see here is pure desperation, a need to say anything at all to smear me, in order to distract attention away from their disgusting hate speech and relentless race-baiting.

The moral of this story is that my work exposing these haters has really been hitting home.

And they’re not going to stop me.

You know you're over the target when you start taking flak.

2 Obdicut  Mon, Jan 9, 2012 11:58:36am

The guy who made the video they're happily linking to, and that Breitbart is defending, also posted this defense of Breivik:

Anyway, government people may beat us, rob us, kill us - as long as they follow the law (which they wrote themselves) and wear uniforms. By this magick of written law and worn uniform, the class of ubermenschen may initiate force and we may not defend ourselves. Quite neat, huh?

Now, enter Anders Behring Breivik.

By shooting to death 69 kids, he surely transgressed the non-aggression principle. But, precisely, why do all the mainstream media, politicians and public opinion condemn him? They are not libertarians. They do not uphold non-aggression principle as an absolute axiom, as we do. Why do they think that Anders Breivik committed a crime, while soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan, or SWAT policemen during a raid are not criminals? Huh? Why the dividing line?

It is quite baffling.

Did Anders Breivik wear a uniform? He did.

Did Anders Breivik act under objectively defined law? He did.

Well, he wrote his manifest himself - just like government who writes his own tyrannical laws.

What differentiates Anders Breivik from a murderous policeman, soldier or a tax collector?

Listen closely. NOTHING. NOTHING AT ALL.

That's right. This pro-Pinochet video was made by a dude who's comparing American soldiers and cops to Breivik. Which is what I'd expect out of a pro-Pinochet dude, really.

But let that sink in: The dudes at the stalker blog are happily posting a video that supports Pinochet, murderer of more than 3000 of his own citizens and the citizens of other countries, including Americans, and supports Breivik, slaughterer of children and coward.

I'm glad someone is willing to stand up to chickenshit smears like this. I am reasonably confident I'd put up an explanation for why they were bullshit, then slink off and live a quiet life.

Good for you, Mr. Johnson.

I have an Amazon search box at the Zionist Mall so it is theoretically possible to purchase "The Turner Diaries" from the Zionist Mall.

If you use the "Amazon recommends" widget there is no way that you can prevent any title sold on Amazon from appearing in the "recommended" panel, which means that if I use the keyword "Zionist" a bunch of ANTI-Zionist titles could show up.

14 Obdicut  Mon, Jan 9, 2012 12:08:46pm

The current publishers of Turner Diaries are Barricade Books, who are first amendment freaks. They are not a white supremacist outfit, but they do publish Turner Diaries along with a lot of other controversial stuff.

The Turner Diraies are pretty unbelievably horrific. I've read them, as I've read a lot of anti-semitic crap, because it pays to know your enemy. The writing is not very good, but the crazed energy of it is frightening; it's good, occasionally, to confront yourself with a monster on that level. I despise the author of the book and all those who are 'inspired' by it, but there are valid reasons to read it, just as there are valid reasons to read any work of evil.

Anyone who says anything even remotely in praise of it is someone who should be treated as crazy or evil.

15 Charles Johnson  Mon, Jan 9, 2012 12:09:45pm

And now, I'm putting these stalker freaks back on IGNORE -- until Breitbart tries to use them as a source again. They've completely discredited themselves.

From the best of my knowledge, Charles has never employed, nor tolerated anyone with white supremacist ties on this site. The same cannot be said about Andrew Breitbart.

I'm guessing that for his next trick, Andrew is going to claim that either the SPLC supports the KKK or the ADL is a front group for neo-Nazis. I mean they both make just as much sense as this idiocy does.

This guy thinks that Breivik operated under color of authority of the law in Norway? That's pretty screwed up right there considering that there's no law that gives a private citizen the right to murder dozens of kids on a youth leadership gathering.

There's no comparison whatsoever between a legally sanctioned military action (whether you agree with its justification or not) and a criminal terrorist who murders people in cold blood. But you're right - that he's even trying to make the argument is illuminating.

The guy is a Randian absolutist, who claims to uphold non-aggression above everything else-- so therefore anyone showing 'aggression', like the military, is below him morally. Strangely, he also is fine with warfare against lesser races to take their land-- I'm not sure how that works.

He's a piece of work. All the more frightening because there's clearly a level of intelligence there. He's very Breivik-like, except he claims to eschew violence, while praising others who use violence.

Speaking of "False Flag" operations, this one is starting to get a bit interesting.

Kosovo native plotted Tampa bombings, feds say

(CNN) -- A Florida man, arrested Saturday for allegedly plotting to bomb night clubs and the sheriff's headquarters in Tampa, Florida, faces a federal judge on a terror charge Monday afternoon, federal prosecutors said.

Sami Osmakac, a 25-year-old naturalized American born in Kosovo, planned a car bombing that would be followed by hostage-taking and the explosion of a suicide belt he planned to wear, according to a criminal complaint made public Monday.

"We all have to die, so why not die the Islamic way?" Osmakac allegedly told an undercover FBI employee, according to the complaint.

The federal investigation of Osmakac began in September when a "confidential human source" told the FBI that Osmakac, a resident of Pinellas Park, Florida, "asked for al Qaeda flags," the complaint said.

A law enforcement official, who asked not to be identified because the official was not authorized to talk about the probe, said the suspect does not appear to have any ties to al Qaeda, and early information indicated he was "self-radicalized."

"I don't have any indication anyone else was involved in the plot and pushing this," the official said.
[...]
FBI agents arrested Osmakac Saturday night, just after he "made a video of himself explaining his motives for carrying out the planned violent attack," the government said.

He is scheduled to make an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Anthony Porcelli in Tampa at 2 p.m. Monday on one count of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.

"This investigation was also predicated, in part, by assistance from the Muslim community," U.S. Attorney Robert E. O'Neill said

Clearly this stunt which was initiated by one of the said website's goon squad doesn't change a thing. It's clearly a distortion as Charles indicated and can even pull up one of Andrew Breitbart's book. It doesn't change the fact that they linked to a video created by a know white supremacist that was also a member of Stormfront more of which can be seen here. Their history and this denial leads me to believe as it should others that they in fact agree with the white supremacist Kel Thuz. This isn't something people should take lightly because the type of behavior and rhetoric we see here is what inspired Timothy McVeigh and Anders Breivik.

More so, in a way. The Muslims were at least all in countries where they could defend themselves militarily. The Crusades often slaughtered all the Jews in their path, and in Europe the hyper-religiosity of the Crusades meant vicious oppression of the Jews who were citizens there.

I really dislike apologists who try to pretend that Muslim vs. Jewish is some ancient bitter blood feud. The Christians still hold the Jewish-slaughter record, even without counting Hitler and the Nazis-- whose anti-semitism can be traced strongly to Martin Luther's savage hatred of the Jews.

CAIR Disavows Tampa Terror Suspect; Was There Entrapment?

Osmakac, a naturalized citizen born in Kosovo, was arraigned Monday on charges of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and faces a possible $250,000 fine and a maximum of life in prison.

Hassan Shibly, director of CAIR's Florida chapter, said Osmakac had been banned from several mosques and "was no friend of supporter of the Muslim community."

Shibly characterized Osmakac as a "self-radicalized lone wolf" and said the local community played "a vital role" in bringing him to the attention of the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Nonetheless, Shibly expressed "concern about a perception of entrapment" and said CAIR will monitor the case.

"The weapons and explosives were provided by the government. Was he just a troubled individual, or did he pose a real threat?" said Shibly, who was briefed by FBI agents prior to Osmakac's arraignment.

See, you can also get a copy of the Turner Diaries through the right wing "Peace Through Strength" Amazon store. It's just as simple as searching for the book you want in the search field if they have "books" in the pull-down menu. It's meaningless.

57 goddamnedfrank  Mon, Jan 9, 2012 12:56:22pm

I'm just going to apologize again for giving them reason to make this bullshit attack. I thought the clear incitement to and justification of mass murder in that video was worth breaking my policy of never talking about what goes on over there. When D-bag posted a video containing the Turner Diaries over the OK City bombing as a warning of what might be necessary to remove Obama if America didn't find it's "Pinochet," I thought that was a noteworthy level of implied violence for someone to address in a message to Charles and Gus.

Some of the posters over there are Jewish, Breitbart was raised Jewish, I thought they and others should take a second look at the kind of person they were supporting. I can see that some of them actually now have begun to question their association, and that's good. However I didn't count on this kind of desperate attempt at tu quoque using LGF's amazon store just to avoid actual thought. How many millions of books and products does Amazon sell? Even if it were possible to block people from searching for individual and specific items, and it's not possible to do that, it's ridiculous to expect an associate to go through the site and remove every bit of questionable kit.

Anyway I'm sorry I made it possible, that wasn't my intention. Charles has worked hared to craft a uniquely inclusive community here and doesn't deserve this shit. Like I said in the last thread I didn't agree with what I saw here for many years, but finally joined up when I saw that he was starting to turn the corner on rejecting the kinds of people who now populate the stalker sites. I've come to greatly respect the self awareness he's cultivated throughout that long process and believe this place wouldn't have become what it is without it.

re: #49 ProLifeLiberal

I recently came to the conclusion about the Crusaders and our issues today:

Crusades are to Christianity, as today's Terrorism is to Islam.

There are certain commonalities, but the situations aren't parallel. In the Crusades, you see a more symmetric style of warfare--everyone sacks cities and meets in open battle--and also a greater degree of common agreement on the rules of warfare, even when they're being broken.

Also a greater mutual respect and understanding. Saleh ad-Din was considered a model of chivalry by the Crusaders, and Muslims considered many of the Crusader leaders to be good men and admirable leaders. That's almost unthinkable in the present conflict.

If you simply focus on the causes of the Crusades though--internal struggles, broke and displaced young men looking for glory, religious fanaticism, a laundry list of political and religious grievances...yes there's some connections to be drawn.

re: #57 goddamnedfrank

Ain't your fault, dude. Crazy does what crazy is.

Another interesting note: the link to my Amazon store is no longer posted at LGF. I removed it when Amazon temporarily suspended their California Associates program, and haven't put it back. It hasn't been visible here for months.

So the stalkers were actually hanging onto that link, waiting for an opportunity like this.

I can't stick around as I have work to do and already spent too much time typing out this comment, so I'll just leave it here and BBL:

I think maybe Charles is doing something or has access to something that he may not even be aware of, and all this spewing is just a distraction tactic. LGF may have fewer readers than it had in the past, but it’s not without clout. I may not have liked it much in its earlier incarnation, but was, and still is, one of the “grandfathers” of the political blogs whose influence opened the door for the many that followed.

Since his clean break with the ugliness on the political right—something Charles saw as far back as 2007 (correct me if I’m wrong on the year)—the right wing bloggers have been furious with him. They don’t simply want LGF (and Charles personally) to be irrelevant or so reduced in influence as to be effectively invisible, they want them completely discredited and gone, disappeared from the internet entirely.

Why? Yes, yes, to be sure some seem to have—to paraphrase researchok—an untreated pathology that just keeps getting worse, but they’re not all nutcases, no matter how distasteful they may be. It has to be something else. What? Something buried in the LGF archives? Some association or some old comment which, if discovered, would cause trouble for someone who has something to lose now?

Could be. Or it could just be that the constant digging & exposure of past associations of prominent right-wing politicians & bloggers being brought to light is something certain people want to go away. It must be especially troubling since Charles, have once been a member in good standing of their club, can hear the name of a group, publication, or individual and immediately flip through the database in his head to retrieve damning information. No doubt this ability makes his continued presence especially troublesome, even though he’s supposedly of little consequence.

What I’m saying, Lizards, is don’t let the intermittent junkyard dog attack tactics distract you. Think about the larger strategy to discredit that’s in play, and know that there wouldn’t be one without good reason. Keep doing what you do—keep your eyes open in the archives, on Twitter, on Google, on blogs & their comments, etc. And watch your back for "friends" who may not really be such.

Oh, and keep these two old ME proverbs in mind:

The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on.

A jackal has swallowed a sickle. When the time comes for him to excrete it, you will hear his howling.

Rand Paul Explains His Family’s Opposition To Civil Rights Act: ‘It’s About Controlling Property’

RAND PAUL: There are things that people were concerned about that were unintended consequences [of the Civil Rights Act], for example, people who believe very fervently in people having equal protection under the law, and are against segregation and all that, still worried about the loss of property rights…for example, I can’t have a cigar bar any more, and you say, “well, that has nothing to do with race” — the idea of whether or not you control your property, it also tells you, come in here I want to know the calorie count on that, and the calorie Nazis come in here and tell me. [...] The point is that its not all about that. It’s not all about race relations, it’s about controlling property, ultimately.

Turkish high court says calling gays "perverts" is an insult

A piece written by Yeni Akit columnist Serdar Arseven defined Üskül as "an AKP [Justice and Development Party] member who gave assurances to she-males” in reference to Üskül's words during the meeting in which he said the government guaranteed that gay and lesbian people would not be segregated because of their sexual orientation.

“[Üskül] went on and attended a meeting by sexual perverts! A meeting of [gays],” Arseven wrote.

KAOS GL filed a lawsuit against Yeni Akit and Arseven, seeking compensation for the headline and the related piece. But the lawsuits were rejected by two Ankara courts on the grounds that the newspaper was "within the limits of criticism."

But the High Court of Appeals overruled the decisions of the two courts, saying, "The freedom of the press does not encompass the freedom to insult the personal freedoms of individuals."

The court's decision said KAOS GL was an organization that sought to protect the rights of people with different sexual orientation and that Zafer Üskül was a member of Parliament who responded to requests by KAOS GL.

Rand Paul Explains His Family’s Opposition To Civil Rights Act: ‘It’s About Controlling Property’

Meanwhile his crazy father is becoming a rock star with the press...

Ron Paul Abandons Event Amid Media Circus

Who thought the day would come when Ron Paul’s campaign would bemoan too much media coverage?

Ron Paul and his wife Carol were forced to abandon a breakfast campaign event this morning after the media circus became too much for the congressman and patrons of a diner to handle.

More than 50 cameramen and 100 members of the media descended on Moe Joe’s Restaurant in Manchester, New Hampshire.

The congressman slyly entered through the back door and attempted to shake hands with the breakfast crowd.

But when the cameras closed in, it became evident that moving inside the restaurant was impossible and Paul was quickly escorted out the back door.

Undaunted the cameras pushed out the door and surrounded Paul’s black SUV in the parking lot.

A woman who had waited for Paul in the restaurant pushed through the media hoard and very loudly and passionately pleaded for the congressman to go back inside.

“I’ll get the media to go away,” the woman screamed.

But her pleas were drowned out by a man with a bull horn who proceeded to taunt Paul, calling him “chicken” playing the chicken dance song over his loud speaker.

The scene rendered Paul’s SUV immobile for about 5 minutes – until his security was forced to move everyone out of the way.

Police arrest man named Beezow Doo-Doo Zopittybop-Bop-Bop

A man with a rather unique name was arrested by Madison police Thursday because police said he was violating bail conditions from previous problems with the law.

Beezow Doo-Doo Zopittybop-Bop-Bop, 30, Madison, was tentatively charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and a probation violation after his arrest at about 3 p.m. in the 800 block of East Mifflin Street.

According to the police news release, residents near Reynolds Park called police because of alleged excessive drinking and drug use near the park.

"Officers contacted a subject they had previous dealings with, identified as Beezow Doo-Doo Zopittybop-Bop-Bop," said police spokesman Howard Payne.

Well, the church is the equipping place, but the world system is where we haven’t gone. We’ve been going into all the nations to plant churches. We haven’t been going into all the nations to invade systems. We have to start to bring the Word of God, the teaching of Christ, into the systems. What systems? The governments need to be led by people with principle. That’s how you overthrow principalities, is people who have anointing and principles occupying high places. The media, right now the economics world, the media world and the government world is shaping every minute that you’re bumping into when you have a conversation….and education. What we need are believers going to the top of these systems because it’s where the high places are that Satan occupies the strong man’s house. And if you want to plunder the strong man’s house, you’ve got to go where the gates of Hell are located.

Fischer Laments that ‘We Have Feminized Public Policy’

If these differences are as profound as this study suggests, could that be the explanation for why God has designed men to be leaders in the home, leaders in the church and leaders in society? And I would suggest that the answer to that question is, “Yes.”

In fact, I’ll tell you how we have gotten into trouble in our public policy, is – I don’t know how to say this without getting myself in big trouble here – but the way we have gotten in trouble in our public policy is we have gotten away from masculine characteristics of public policy. We have feminized our public policy. Our public policy ought to be about stability, it ought to be about rule consciousness -- that’s the rule of law, the same rules apply to everybody, that’s what it ought to be about -- and vigilance. Instead, so much of our public policy has been driven by what? Sensitivity, warmth and fear. These are female characteristics, they’re feminine characteristics, they should not be the things that guide and control public policy.

So anyway, I probably just got myself in a big mess there, but again that’s not me saying it. That’s not me saying that men and women have distinct personalities and it’s inate, that’s a secular outfit, the Public Library of Science One Journal.

Wow, Evangelicals seem to have real issues with Romney

"People are free to believe whatever they want. I have no problem with a person of any faith running for office. The only thing I have ever asked Romney or any member of his cult like Glenn Beck to do is to tell the truth. Romney LIES when he calls himself a Christian, since he and members of his cult believe their 'jesus' was created through the sexual union of their 'god' who was once a man, and Mary, meaning their 'jesus' is NOT a deity, is the brother of Lucifer, and once visited the United States. The 'god' and 'jesus of the Mormon cult is NOT the God and Jesus of the Bible, and the final authority for Mormons is NOT the Bible, but the writings of their cult's founder Joseph Smith who was a documented con man, pedophile, polygamist, racist, and murderer."

Keller concluded, "Listen, if Mitt Romney wants to wear magical underwear with Satanic markings that he believes protects him and thinks he will die and become the god of his own planet with an endless supply of women to create spirit babies with, that is up to him. I think it is journalistic malpractice for the media not to at least tell the truth about what Romney and those in his cult believe, while calling anyone with the guts to tell the truth about his cult a bigot. It is inexcusable for Christian leaders like Graham, Osteen, a respected Christian like Starr, and any other true Christian to help perpetuate the lie Mormons are Christians without any concern for the fact the Bible states those who believe a false gospel will die and their souls lost for eternity in hell!"

Allen West Calls Upon Generals To Resign, Protest Obama Administration

In an interview last week with right-wing radio host Mark Levin, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) called for high-ranking military leaders to resign their posts, rather than follow the orders of the Obama administration’s recently announced reorganization of the Armed Forces:

First I'm hearing of this story. A member of the House asking for military officials to quit their post? Really Allen?

It was never about killing. I've had lunch with this guy, who went kinda wild one day in 1969, without pulling a trigger. In all, his medvac missions saved more than 5,500 guys.

Rank and organization: Chief Warrant Officer, U.S. Army, 82d Medical Detachment, 45th Medical Company, 68th Medical Group. Place and date: Kien Tuong Province, Republic of Vietnam, October 2, 1969. Entered service at: Kenner, La. Born: September 3, 1922, Etna, Pa.
Citation:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. CWO Novosel, 82d Medical Detachment, distinguished himself while serving as commander of a medical evacuation helicopter. He unhesitatingly maneuvered his helicopter into a heavily fortified and defended enemy training area where a group of wounded Vietnamese soldiers were pinned down by a large enemy force. Flying without gunship or other cover and exposed to intense machinegun fire, CWO Novosel was able to locate and rescue a wounded soldier. Since all communications with the beleaguered troops had been lost, he repeatedly circled the battle area, flying at low level under continuous heavy fire, to attract the attention of the scattered friendly troops. This display of courage visibly raised their morale, as they recognized this as a signal to assemble for evacuation. On 6 occasions he and his crew were forced out of the battle area by the intense enemy fire, only to circle and return from another direction to land and extract additional troops. Near the end of the mission, a wounded soldier was spotted close to an enemy bunker. Fully realizing that he would attract a hail of enemy fire, CWO Novosel nevertheless attempted the extraction by hovering the helicopter backward. As the man was pulled on aboard, enemy automatic weapons opened fire at close range, damaged the aircraft and wounded CWO Novosel. He momentarily lost control of the aircraft, but quickly recovered and departed under the withering enemy fire. In all, 15 extremely hazardous extractions were performed in order to remove wounded personnel. As a direct result of his selfless conduct, the lives of 29 soldiers were saved. The extraordinary heroism displayed by CWO Novosel was an inspiration to his comrades in arms and reflect great credit on him, his unit, and the U.S. Army.

Also a total femme to Bryan Fischer, Desmond Doss.

Conscientious objector, refused to carry a weapon on religious grounds.

He was a company aid man when the 1st Battalion assaulted a jagged escarpment 400 feet (120 m) high. As our troops gained the summit, a heavy concentration of artillery, mortar and machinegun fire crashed into them, inflicting approximately 75 casualties and driving the others back. Pfc. Doss refused to seek cover and remained in the fire-swept area with the many stricken, carrying all 75 casualties one-by-one to the edge of the escarpment and there lowering them on a rope-supported litter down the face of a cliff to friendly hands. On May 2, he exposed himself to heavy rifle and mortar fire in rescuing a wounded man 200 yards (180 m) forward of the lines on the same escarpment; and 2 days later he treated 4 men who had been cut down while assaulting a strongly defended cave, advancing through a shower of grenades to within 8 yards (7.3 m) of enemy forces in a cave's mouth, where he dressed his comrades' wounds before making 4 separate trips under fire to evacuate them to safety. On May 5, he unhesitatingly braved enemy shelling and small arms fire to assist an artillery officer. He applied bandages, moved his patient to a spot that offered protection from small arms fire and, while artillery and mortar shells fell close by, painstakingly administered plasma. Later that day, when an American was severely wounded by fire from a cave, Pfc. Doss crawled to him where he had fallen 25 feet (7.6 m) from the enemy position, rendered aid, and carried him 100 yards (91 m) to safety while continually exposed to enemy fire. On May 21, in a night attack on high ground near Shuri, he remained in exposed territory while the rest of his company took cover, fearlessly risking the chance that he would be mistaken for an infiltrating Japanese and giving aid to the injured until he was himself seriously wounded in the legs by the explosion of a grenade. Rather than call another aid man from cover, he cared for his own injuries and waited 5 hours before litter bearers reached him and started carrying him to cover. The trio was caught in an enemy tank attack and Pfc. Doss, seeing a more critically wounded man nearby, crawled off the litter; and directed the bearers to give their first attention to the other man. Awaiting the litter bearers' return, he was again struck, by a sniper bullet while being carried off the field by a comrade, this time suffering a compound fracture of 1 arm. With magnificent fortitude he bound a rifle stock to his shattered arm as a splint and then crawled 300 yards (270 m) over rough terrain to the aid station. Through his outstanding bravery and unflinching determination in the face of desperately dangerous conditions Pfc. Doss saved the lives of many soldiers. His name became a symbol throughout the 77th Infantry Division for outstanding gallantry far above and beyond the call of duty.[2]

If you read letters from and listen to interviews with WWII servicemen, they invariably talk about the bravery of the medics.

I can't imagine what veterans who owe their lives to a medic braving gunfire must think of a shithead criticizing them.

Right, right. I get it. The right wingnuts never bitched and moaned about the GM bailout and the cash for clunkers, and the direction that the auto industry is headed under "Obama the socialist". I must have been imagining things.

First off, Evening Lizards.

Charles, Haters, hate. That is what they do. I was torn between the two factions/camps, but I actually looked (back) at the facts you presented and made my decision based upon those facts. Probably why I am still here.

Yes, and GM's recent successes are all thanks to Mitt Romney's ideas. Get with the program.

GM should have declared bankrupcy...too bad, but that's the way it worked and then they may have been able to break the death grip of the UAW, the very people that helped drive them out of business...instead BO awarded a huge share of the business to his traditional voting bloc...

All this demonstrates is that you remain fundamentally mistaken as to the options that were available to GM at the time. Nobody else was going to help them, there were no angel investors, no banks, nothing. Therefor there was no path to Chapter 11. If the government hadn't bailed GM out they were facing Chapter 7, total liquidation of the company, which means all assets sold at auction.

Pretty much. Your blithe attitude ignores the entire supply chain of companies dependent on GM, the parts manufacturers, the dealerships, etc. The domino effect of allowing them to go into Chapter 7 would have destroyed untold numbers of jobs and businesses.

Now they're not only doing well but thriving, whereas you would have let the free market just crap all over everyone out of some bizarre, sociopathic principle.

250 Tsuga  Mon, Jan 9, 2012 5:00:47pm

re: #248 albusteve

oh my, what a drag...thank god for the feds

The point is that under normal circumstances the private sector could have handled this matter just fine, via bridge financing allowing a Chapter 11 route. However, during a severe financial crisis this option was foreclosed leaving the only choices as Chapter 7 or temporary government financing.

re: #57 goddamnedfrank

Frank, you and I don't always agree and sometimes we go after each other fiercely, but in this case I do know how you feel and I can tell you you've got nothing to be sorry for. That sort of potential death threat Rodan posted required exposing and you stepped up and exposed it. That was a righteous act and one for which no apology need be made.
