We Got Mail from a Birther
Birtherism, the strange mental aberration that afflicts an amazing number of right wingers, has definitely not subsided. The release of Barack Obama’s original long-form birth certificate had no effect on the delusion.
In fact, I predict we’re going to see another huge resurgence of this insanity if/when Barack Obama is reelected, because at its core Birtherism is thinly masked racism: the refusal to believe that the first black President of the US is actually “one of us.” It takes the form of doubting his citizenship, but you don’t have to listen very hard to hear the echoes of “Go back to Africa where you belong!”
Today one of these obsessed people found LGF by searching Yahoo for “judge atlanta obama birth certificate” (we’re the first result), and clicking through to our post about the Georgia judge who ordered President Obama to appear in court so that Birther loon Orly Taitz could question him. After reading the post, our visitor decided to give me a piece of his mind and used the contact form to send this message — a picture of the distorted thinking of the Birther conspiracy theorist, full of incoherent rage and whiny victimhood:
Until you guys have PROOF and I mean BEYOND A DOUBT proof that Obozo was born in the USA you have no right to try and marginalize those who doubt it. Just like “Rules for Radicals” you take the cue to ostracize, belittle and demonize those who oppose you. We are witnessing the left’s murder of freedom of thought in this nation.
On the contrary, I would never try to murder a Birther’s freedom of thought — it’s too much fun to mock these idiots.
