Can I ask for help from the lizard faithful?

How is Romney even going to pretend to separate himself from Obama in the general election? The big republican planks in any platform:

Foreign Policy: Obama wins in a landslide.

Healthcare: Romney actually enacted many components of "Obamacare"

Economy: Even if he has ideas for how to fix the economy (which I haven't heard, other than Obama's policies being "bad"), Romney is now perceived as the incarnation of the 1%, and I think he gets killed for it.

Social Conservatism: Romney has flipped more times on abortion and gay marriage than I can count. The half the country that is liberal will go Obama, the other half will hate Romney's lack of consistency. Which leads me to:

Character: This is hugely important for Repubs (see: Bush, George W). They want a good ole boy, a guy they can have a beer with, a guy who will stand up to the terrorists. Romney is a soft, bloviating flip flopper who doesn't seem to be able to throw or take a punch.

What I'm saying is: I don't think he can get Republicans out to vote, nor do I think he can get moderates. I would really like someone to tell me what platform this guy is going to run on in the summer/fall, and how he has a prayer of winning.

Indiana was understandable, as the power of the unions was broken when the steel mills went under back in the early 2000's. Here in Minnesota, all we've got are union workers and farmers. The GOP is going to need all the luck it can gather if they're going to get this abomination shoehorned through. They don't call it the DFL for nothing.

There are lots of Mormons in Nevada and they do tend to vote.

According to this,it's 7.1%. That sounds about right. It used to be much higher as a percentage, but then the population exploded in the past 15-20 years.

I believe it link or not. Gingrich's PAC is spending millions on anti-Romney ads. Its basically saved spending for Democrats in Florida and now Nevada.

And the longer he has to tack right to win primaries the harder its going to be to appear moderate enough to win the election.

Also, if you look at that link, it shows the Nevada counties with high populations of LDS. Gingrich is making a mistake by ignoring those counties. I think Hillary Clinton made the same mistake and Obama got more delegates because of it.

Also, Mormons didn't spill into the surrounding states, nor was it a hostile takeover. There weren't any other Europeans living there yet, and Brigham Young knew enough about agriculture to realize that they couldn't all live in the Salt Lake Valley, so he sent people north and south on purpose.

Las Vegas was originally an LDS settlement, a piece of irony that is not lost on anyone.

I will bite. I don't think Romney has a chance but there is a spin he can put on some of it, and it may end closer than you think (Note: I do not support the following arguments - just saying what I think his spin is):

Foreign Policy: Obama has apologized rather than stood up for America around the world. He is not a good enough friend to Israel.

Healthcare: This is a states rights issue and he objects to the Federal govt. going there. What may be good for MA is not necessarily right for Alabama.

Economy: We are still in a deep recession, and Obama made it worse than it could have been. Government meddling prevented the market from allowing a full correction and has therefore stalled our ability to emerge from recession.

Taxing the rich, is not the solution to job growth.

Social Conservatism: In a general election he can tone this down a bit, but all he has to do is be to the right of the President and be anti choice.

Character: Romney has strong family values record. His character will not be an issue. Loving husband and father. No inkling of infidelity or skeletons in this regard. Yes a flip flopper but he can spin it as maturing ideologically.

Newt Gingrich is Romney’s closest threat with 25 percent backing, thanks in large part to Republicans who say they “strongly support” the tea party movement.
