Congressman Falls for the Onion’s Planned Parenthood ‘Abortionplex’ Satire

“Abortion by the wholesale”
Wingnuts • Views: 25,718

Louisiana Republican Rep. John Fleming is the latest politician to fall for an Onion story and believe it to be genuine news: Congressman Falls for the Onion’s Planned Parenthood ‘Abortionplex’ Story.

Rep. Fleming posted on Facebook an Onion story from last year on an “$8 billion Abortionplex” being built by Planned Parenthood, featuring restaurants, a nightclub, and a 10-screen multiplex theater. Along with the link to the article, Fleming commented:

More on Planned Parenthood, abortion by the wholesale.

John Fleming, you are the LGF Derp of the Day.

(Except it’s not really that funny to see a Congressman so blinded by animus toward Planned Parenthood that he’d accept such an obviously exaggerated satire as the real thing.)

Better to not post on Facebook and leave some unsure of one's intelligence than to post on Facebook and remove all doubt.

I read somewhere that he was actually a doctor. As in medical doctor. Hopefully he doesn't or has never practiced.

Congressman who cited 'The Onion' to Attack Planned Parenthood promoted another Deceptive Planned Parenthood Smear

While the congressman has since scrubbed the post from his Facebook page, he still is promoting an article from the conspiratorial far-right site WorldNetDaily to claim that Planned Parenthood has abortion quotas. In the story, WND cited Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood staffer turned anti-choice activist who has made similar charges before that Planned Parenthood is trying to “coerce” and “encourage” women to have abortions. However, Johnson isn’t exactly a trustworthy source, as her stated story on why she left Planned Parenthood completely lacks credibility:

Look at what’s happened just in our tolerance for abortion. Fifty years ago…60 years ago, people who did abortions were in the shadows, people who were considered really bad doctors. Now, abortion is something to that is just accepted. [...] This is the erosion. And it happens in the medical profession. It happened very fast. And I think Obamacare will lead us down that road.

Santorum should have it explained to him that roughly 50 percent of all maternal deaths in the first half of the 20th century were from illegal abortions, and an estimated 160 to 260 women died each year in the 1950s and 1960s from illegal abortions. Fuck. Can you believe that M.I.A. flipped the bird during the Super Bowl half-time performance? Man, that's fucking wrong!

She was pissed about wearing that stupid Mel Brooks "History of the World" costume.

I read somewhere that he was actually a doctor. As in medical doctor. Hopefully he doesn't or has never practiced.

Unfortunately there are a lot of very smart people out there who belong to cults, and thus willingly allow their irrational beliefs, convictions, and prejudices to contradict their intelligence.

Weigel and RS McCain are pals. I dumped Weigel a long time ago, even though he is one of the better Tweeters, IMO. I still see plenty of retweets from him, including some from you. :)

That made me look up what RSM was up to. And it seems a growing number of wingnut bloggers have all drunk kool-aid santorum. I.e. they're endorsing ole Rick.

That's because Santorum is "God's candidate." Always was.

He's a Catholic Jesus' candidate. They would have been happier with a WASP Jesus' guy.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — A Missouri teenager who admitted stabbing, strangling and slitting the throat of a young neighbor girl wrote in her journal on the night of the killing that it was an “ahmazing” and “pretty enjoyable” experience — then headed off to church with a laugh.

He's the NotMittandNotNewtEither candidate. If he drops out, most of them will go to Paul.

Listening to Rick Santorum gives me an overnight case of tinnitus.

OK. Most of them do. Lots of yelling and non-stop complaining at those debates.

How someone raises a child affects how that child turns out, but I'm a big believer that some people are just born bad.

Not surprising if he views The Onion as a newsource. After all, there are a lot of wingnuts who think Steven Colbert is a conservative.

The guy even breaks character once in a while to tell people what a fire-breathing liberal he actually is, and they still don't believe it. I guess it's because they're so desperate to have anyone in their shrinking conservative circle who's actually funny that they'll make up an imaginary conservative comic and assign his identity to someone who makes fun of them every night Pathetic, really.
