Utopia: The Wheel

Live At The Royal Oak, Detroit (1981)
Music • Views: 19,020

I just discovered this gem at YouTube, while searching for videos with Todd Rundgren — the entire legendary 1981 Utopia concert from the Royal Oak in Detroit, just under an hour long. The band really kicked ass this night, and Todd’s voice has never sounded better.

I set this embedded video to begin playing at the song “The Wheel,” a real tour de force vocal performance from Todd. You’ll probably want to hear the rest if you’re a Rundgren fan; the whole thing is fantastic, especially the encore, “Just One Victory.”

Never heard that song by Todd before.. I think he is a genius but I didn't care for this song.. I'd give it a 6 out of 10.
After a while I started thinking this song needs a bridge more than any song in the world..
But I have always said.. Music is like wine..everyone can disagree and all be right at the same time

I would also not rank it among his greatest compositions (a field of something like 400 songs!), but for some reason it has held a special place among his serious fans since it debuted in 1975. When I first started seeing him a little later in the 80s he wasn't performing it any more, but people would scream out requests for it almost every night. Finally in the 90s he relented and has been playing it semi-regularly ever since.

Always loved the lyrics for this one:

We've been waiting so long
We've been waiting so long, oh
We've been waiting for the sun to rise and shine
Shining still to give us the will

Can you hear me, the sound of my voice?
I am here to tell you I have made my choice
I've been listening to what's been going down
There's just too much talk and gossip going 'round

You may think that I'm a fool but I know the answer
Words become a tool, anyone can use them
Take the golden rule as the best example
Eyes that have seen will know what I mean

Hold that line, baby hold that line
Get up boys and hit 'em one more time
We may be losing now but we can't stop trying
So hold that line, baby hold that line

If you don't know what to do about a world of trouble
You can pull it through if you need to and if
You believe it's true, it will surely happen

Shining still, to give us the will
We've been waiting so long, waiting so long
Been waiting so long, waiting so long

Shining still, to give us the will
Bright as the day, to show us the way
Somehow, someday
We need just one victory and we're on our way

We've been prayin' for it all day
And we're fightin' for it all night
To give us just one victory, it will be all right
We may feel about to fall but we go down fighting

You will hear the call if you only listen
Underneath it all we are here together
Shining still, to give us the will
Now bright as the day, to show us the way

Hold that line, baby hold that line
Get up boys and hit 'em one more time
We may be losing now but we can't stop trying
So hold that line, baby hold that line

Charles, I would appreciate it if you moved my page on America's debt to the featured pages. One of the Right's most potent arguments has been that the US is accruing dangerous amounts of debt when the reality is that America is one of the few developed countries which has been reducing its debt.

In a way. I think this CPAC has actually managed to outdo all of the Tea Party's craziness since 2009. Thoughts? I've never seen anything like this before. Ever. Not this mainstream. And the media has barely touched it only writing and reporting fluff pieces.

James Lafferty: Lafferty is the founder and chairman of a group called the Virginia Anti-Sharia Taskforce (VAST), whose purpose is to oppose the “implementation of the radical, barbaric and anti-Constitutional Shariah law in Virginia or anywhere in America.” Lafferty, who is a board member of Geller’s American Freedom Defense Initiative, is also the husband of Andrea Lafferty. Andrea Lafferty is the president of the Traditional Values Coalition (TVC), a religious right group that recently has also jumped on the anti-Islamic bandwagon. (The Southern Poverty Law Center lists TVC as a hate group based on its false propaganda about LGBT people.)

I don't know if this is actually worse. Pat Buchanan has been a regular feature at cpac for ages. Remember last year when Andrew Napalitano held a panel =on what an evil tyrant Lincoln was? Remember when ann Coulter told a faggot joke?
The press always whitewashes this stuff. Partially out of laziness but also it's an attempt to not alienate viewers. Fox and MSNBC have a highly polarized audience but the rest of the mainstream news outlets have a mixed audience and factual airing of dirty laundry would result in pissed off viewers. The Tea Party, OWS, CPAC, etc all get pretty light treatment from the media.

Btw, here's the latest outrage from the Shrieking Harpy (links to re-post at Free Republic)
CNN Fires Entire Jewish Staff Of Israel Bureau, Keeps Only Arab Reporters

We have always known how anti-Israel and biased CNN (Crescent News Network) is. Now there is no pretense. They have laid bare their antisemitism for all the world to see. Unabashed prejudice. One can only imagine the propaganda packaged as "news" that we will be subjected to from their 'Palestinian' stringers.

CNN Fires Entire Jewish Staff Of Israel Bureau - And Retains Only Arab Reporters (Before It's News)

CNN's Israel bureau is downsizing, reportedly to cope with a reduced budget due to falling advertising revenues.

That doesn't explain why they fired four Israeli Jewish journalists (out of a crew of 8), and retained only Arab journalists. The local chief editor of CNN is now an Arab.

"Crescent News Network." Is there no end to Pam's wit?

I would be skeptical of this story even if Pam the Sham were not the source. Does anyone have the straight goods on this?

Newsbreak #1: So far I have confirmed that a Moshe Cohen, Izzy Lemberg (not Landberg), and Michael Zippori work for cnn in Israel. Can't find verification for Avi Kaner, but that's going to be hard for a cameraman.

I'll see if I can find something to verify their firing through a reasonable source.

If you feel like sleuthing I found this from a couple of days ago.

Opinion: Rebels with a cause

During my visit, I met another Jew who is obsessed with the facts, journalist Izzy Lemberg. As a news producer for CNN in Israel, where he just finished a 22-year stint, Lemberg has covered all the major news stories, including more than a hundred terror attacks during the Second Intifada.

“Too many journalists see their work as the pursuit of justice,” he told me when I met him late one night in Tel Aviv. “That should be the work of human rights activists. Journalists should pursue the truth.”

Lemberg’s pursuit of truth is now finding expression in a documentary he is producing called “Blame It on the Jews.”

He thinks one of the biggest stories of the past decade has been the growth of global anti-Semitism, often camouflaged behind criticism of Israel. He says his film will focus a calm, journalistic eye on this phenomenon, with in-depth interviews and rare footage to show the extent of the problem.

To help attract financing for the film, he has uploaded a preview of the film on YouTube.

Lemberg is careful not to disparage his former employer, but it’s clear from talking to him that he feels the media in general has not adequately covered the anti-Semitic phenomenon his film will address.

“You can’t be balanced about anti-Semitism,” he told me. “There’s no other side to that story.”

Nitsana Darshan-Leitner and Izzy Lemberg are two Israeli rebels fighting for a cause; one for justice, the other for truth. The line between the two is not as clear as Lemberg suggests. When the truth is well told, in a documentary or otherwise, it can only lead to justice.

I can't find a current list of the Jerusalem bureau staff. Going to go and make dinner for my family now.

41 Lord Baron Viscount Duke Earl Count Planckton  Fri, Feb 10, 2012 5:31:20pm

CNN has halved the number of staffers in the Jerusalem bureau, from 8 to 4. An editor, producer, cameraman and desk editor were among those let go late last month.

“CNN has recently reviewed its worldwide operations, an exercise we do regularly to ensure operational and technological efficiency in everything we do,” a CNN spokesperson tells TVNewser. “As part of this exercise, we have reorganized the CNN bureau in Jerusalem.”

The website Dreuz.info, which first reported the news, says the dismissals go “beyond good management.” “CNN has fired four Israeli Jewish journalists, and has retained only Arab journalists,” the site reports.”

CNN rejects this, saying “there are Israeli Jews working in CNN’s Jerusalem bureau.”

The spokesperson adds, “We strongly reject any suggestion that the reorganization in the Jerusalem bureau is in any way based on the small number of contract employees concerned being Israeli, particularly given CNN’s long history of working with locals in the region.”

Two of CNN’s Asian bureaus are experiencing staff cuts, TVNewser has learned.

The reorganization, as it’s being described, is affecting offices in Jakarta and Bangkok. These smaller bureaus usually have a staff of 4-5. And while confirming the reduction a CNN spokesperson could not reveal the number of staffers cut.
