Video: Andrew Breitbart Loses It
CPAC is just an unbelievable freak show this year. Here’s Andrew Breitbart screaming at Occupy protesters to “behave” and “stop raping people.”

He seems to do something like this every CPAC. Was it the last where he got into some ranting fight over a question about O'keefe, screaming about cleaning up the inner cities and someone's "drawers" or something? I imagine it usually follows CPAC happy hour.

So, I've got a web ad saying "Jesus Christ is Lord" showing a blonde with big tits wearing a cowboy hat and a halter top, asking if I want to meet hot Christian singles.

The quickest way to turn me against your "cause", even if I previously believed in it, is to behave in public the way Breitbart is behaving here. That guy must have had a weird childhood or something. As Hank Hill would say, that boy ain't right.
The second-quickest way to turn me against your cause is to state your ideals in rhyming form and then chant it in unison.
If you and 100 of your pals come at me yelling "Hey hey, ho ho, venereal warts have got to go", I'm suddenly feeling a bit compelled to seek out sex with every single person ever depicted on "Jersey Shore".
In unrelated news, I'm slightly disappointed nobody has used this as a display name yet.

How many of these extreme right-wingers are really that extreme?
Assuming expressions of political belief are indicators of position on the liberal/conservative continuum there seems to be too many, statistically speaking, clustered around the extreme conservative end of the spectrum. I'm wondering if the West's infatuation with celebrity is leading people normally closer to the centre to act more extreme?

In doing my search for the latest creationism news (there is some, btw, but none surprising) I hit upon the latest Jazz Shaw article over at HotAir in which Jazz thinks that the best thing that could happen to the GOP is if Santorum does indeed get the nomination and then the result of the election will either prover that SoCons are indeed the future of the GOP or that SoCons need to be kicked out of the GOP.

Oh, and speaking of paleo-stupidity, PaleoPat's latest column titled "Obama's Trampling on God's Turf Now", which is about the whole brouhaha over abortion and Catholic institutions and Komen, etc, has the following as one of the paragraphs:
Where did justices get the power to decide whether laws enacted by the people or their elected representatives will be allowed to stand in this republic? Where did these nine justices get the right to be sole and final arbiters of what the Constitution and the laws say and do not say?
"Where"? PaleoPat should know the answer... but doesn't want to admit it. Article III section 2 of the Constitution has long been interpreted as giving the USSC the "power" of which PaleoPat writes.
The PaleoPat article is of course just another repeat of the "War on Christianity" motif. I expect lots more of this by Nov.

Just looked at my change from the parking garage and the five dollar bill was defaced with a stamp that read "Protect the unborn, Defend life." Have to swap it out at the bank tomorrow when I stop by for other business.
The GOP's really signing their own death warrant by this point, loading up on the social issues at a time when the biggest concern is the economy and jobs. But I guess that's all they really have to run on by this point, as the economy's in a steady upward swing and jobs are beginning to come back. How do you claim to be the guy to fix the economy when it looks like the economy's fixing itself?

By looking at your avatar, can I assume you've played the latest Deus Ex game?
If so, thoughts?
Great graphics, fairly solid combat and stealth, the skills got too simplistic compared to its predecessor, and the storyline's way shorter. Overall, I'd recommend it, especially if you're into cyberpunk.

BTW, on another topic which I've not kept posting like I used to... I see that the media and blogsters are killing the story on the GRACE measurements of glacier melt, especially in regards to the Himalayas.
The big news sites are not much better than the atavistic anti-science crowd. MSNBC and The Guardian both pushed stories with misleading headlines, and in the case of MSNBC with substantially misleading contents too.

They replaced skill points with "Praxis points" that simply unlock abilities in your augmentations. You can operate any weapons, hack, and all the other abilities right out of the gate. So instead of needing to think out which skills you'll want to focus on, it's now just figuring out at what point in the game you need which skill.

If Santorum succeeds in winning the nomination, then you may get your wish. There'd be no way to argue that he's not "conservative enough," as he couldn't be more conservative without dressing in Inquisitor robes. At least with Romney, the GOP could claim that their focus is on jobs and the economy. With Santorum, it's obvious that he's on the ticket because he's the biggest Bible thumper amongst the pack, which would alienate everybody but the hardcore base.

How about trip mines/grenades? In the first game they were one and the same. You could either place them like mines or toss them like grenades. They changed that in the second game, which kind of ticked me off.

You got mine templates now, which you can combine with any of the grenades to make an equivalent mine. EMP mines come in especially handy for boss fights and against mechs.

and that profession is him trolling people on the internet with his fake-news schtick, and screaming at liberals. Or taking surrepetitious pictures of liberals. (Maybe he's also a voyeur) Basically, this is what he'd be doing anyway, he's just figured out how to make it pay his rent

Good morning.
I'd observe that the Occupy protestors here weren't nearly as large as I expected, but they did try to break in twice both around the time of the Romney speech yesterday ( circa 1:00 pm EST)
Honestly, it's mostly Santorum Christian nutjobs and the Paultards here. It is funny however how the GOP insiders like to pretend that the latter don't exist, even when most of my friends are. I give myself another 8 or so hours before I snap at one of those guys and start an actual argument with them. Would also note however, that a lot of the more traditional guys are seeming to think "auditing the Fed" is a good idea, as it's a fairly logical transition from the whole "never bail out the banks" thing.
For now, I'll observe that one of them today implied though he refused to outright state it said that our economic meltdown was the result of a Chinese economic terrorist attack, because a huge amount of money just vanished and all that.

So let us get it straight: if someone shows up unbidden at an OWS event and rants something offensive, all of OWS bears the onus.
If CPAC invites a raving racist/white supremacist/Islamophobe to one of its organized meetings this is not to reflect on CPAC in any way...

At one point in the song the duo say “knickers,” while referencing their old-school pants. A writer at Huffington Post, with an apparently inability to spell, convinced herself that they said a racial slur, based on the sole observation that the audio technician, who happens to be black, which blogger Amanda Terkel was quick to note, walked out of frame to fix the audio levels.

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.

Sydney Spies, After Third Yearbook Photo Rejected, Seeks Redress
[Link: news.yahoo.com...]
The Colorado teenager who made national headlines when her racy senior pictured was rejected by the editors of her school yearbook has been the victim of bullying and discrimination and will continue to fight after the school rejected a third photo and used her school ID photo instead, her mother says.
Miki Spies, the mother of Durango High School senior Sydney Spies, told Westword magazine that she and Sydney's father plan to file a complaint with the Durango, Colo., school board and superintendent in the hope that they "acknowledge that there's been a lot of mishandling of this situation."
"Sydney feels very bullied, by the entire school, basically," Spies, 44, told Westword. "The school has been awful and the kids have been awful. She's received very little support in any way from anybody. There's been a ton of cyber-bullying, where people can say whatever they want without looking the person in the eyes. It's been extremely hurtful for our entire family."

Utah allows firing squad request to avoid execution delay
[Link: news.yahoo.com...]
SALT LAKE CITY (Reuters) - Utah prosecutors have reluctantly allowed a condemned killer to seek execution by firing squad rather than by lethal injection, saying they want to avoid further delays in putting him to death.
The request by Michael Archuleta, 49, convicted of the 1988 slaying of a college student, follows recent talks among state lawmakers and criminal justice officials about possibly returning to firing squads as an execution option in light of the current shortage of lethal-injection drugs.
If Archuleta gets his way, he would ultimately become only the fourth to be executed by shooting in the United States -- all of them in Utah -- since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated capital punishment in 1976. The last was in June 2010.
Utah, the last state to carry out executions by rifle volley, officially did away with the practice in 2004 under pressure from death penalty opponents and human rights activists who vehemently opposed firing squads as barbaric.
But the statute to abolish firing squads carved out an exemption for those death row inmates, like Archuleta, who had already requested it as their preferred manner of execution.

Just before reading this, one of my regular Ron Paul supporting FB buddies responded to my comment saying 'this is stupid' with a vindication, saying the girl is all good and something about she's not a stripper, and she deserved it.

I saw the video too.
1) Lots of kids that age say nasty things about their parents. I know I did.
2) I hope that he ALSO made some sort of attempt to connect with her in another way to find out what's REALLY bugging her.
3) I raised a difficult 15-going-on-16 year old girl. That age is an IMPOSSIBLE age. Impossible. I failed miserably in any attempt to connect or find out what was going on with her, so then, we:
4) Sent her to a psychological counselor, and STAYED OUT of whatever went on in those sessions. Best move we ever made. It helped her get herself through that year, AND it had positive effects that are still benefitting her (AND my relationship with her) to this day.
That dad should get grip, and if he can't connect with her, get her somebody professional she can talk to.

I had to bring my old cat to the vet yesterday, to have her put to sleep.
She was old, she was a bit senile, would meow for food, and then wouldn't eat it when I put it out, like she had forgotten what she wanted. And then she couldn't keep food down, and she had lost sooo much weight, she had virtually no muscle tissue left.
I kept hoping she would just die peacefully in her sleep, but she kept hanging in there, and so it reached a point where it was just time, she wasn't QUITE to the point of suffering yet, but it wasn't far off.
So I made the appt, and took her in. It was the best thing to do, and I thought I was resigned to it. And I handled it all just fine, UNTIL her heart stopped, which happened pretty quickly after he gave her the shot - at which point I started crying and couldn't stop, I was just sobbing.
I'm much better today, it was really the absolute right thing to do, but still - I was surprised at my reaction. She was a good cat and we enjoyed her company for many many years.

I got a cat from the pound a decade or more ago. I got him to a vet, and he had a heart murmur. To spare feelings, I'll just say complications from that came up and I had to choose between a big surgery that would have left him semi-crippled and in pain, or putting him to sleep. I chose the latter. Poor little dude.
I was so emotional about it that I took him to my parents house to bury him. My parents were renting out the house, but, well, I was seeking familiar territory. I went into the back yard, dug a hole, and put him down there, wedging rocks above him to keep him safe.
My brother, afterwards, said that we should write that into the lease:
"We reserve the right to show up at any time and bury bodies. This is not a hypothetical."

Aw - I don't feel like such a freak now.
No, you are not a freak at all. I have had to "make the decision" many times with all the critters I've raised/rescued. The last time was my beloved Sheltie who was not my pet as much as a partner who held me together after my husband died. It was just him and me left to begin a new life adventure together and he was the reason I got out of bed in the morning. When he got ill and I had to make that decision, I lost it to the point the vet wouldn't let me leave. He planted me in his office until I could get it together enough to drive.
It's a terribly painful loss.

The most interesting part of that PPP poll is the how massively the Newt vote goes to Santorum if Newt exits the race.
The "Romney will be the nominee" talk has died down a bit this week. This is great news for the advertising industry. I think if Romney doesn't score well in Maine he may get desperate and dump 15 million dollars ensuring Arizona goes to him.
Santorum won't be phased by negative ads like Gingrich, surprisingly, was. In fact, Santorum may just stay positive and use Romney's negative ads against him. Reagan's 11th commandment and all that crap.

His lead with conservatives won't evaporate unless he makes a major gaffe. Romney's screwed himself by trying to out-right the likes of Gingrich and Santorum. His hope for continued success lies in the moderate Republican vote, and they're staying home so far as the campaigns are marketed for the knuckle-dragging tea baggers.

You must not have met some of the people I've known. I smoke weed on rare occasions but I don't buy into that whole "Holy Church of Marijuana" BS. It has different effects on different people.
I was Tommy Chong in my teen years. If someone ever asserts that it's possible to lethally OD on smoking weed, just point them to me as living proof that it can't be done, no matter how hard you try.
That said, a few years ago I met a woman (a tenured professor at Texas Wesleyan, as it goes) who decided we should get high together. I rolled a joint of her weed (she seemed to regard joint rolling as some kind of arcane Dragon Shout voodoo superpower) and before we had smoked half of it I was thoroughly incapacitated. I don't know if weed nowadays is just profoundly more potent than it was in the late 80s, or if I had just reset to lightweight settings, but... DAMN. It actually ended up ruining the whole evening for me because I was completely debilitated by something that should have been pleasurable.

I've had two cats with a similar wasting disease that eventually had to be put to sleep. One of them I kept hoping would get better and I kept almost force feeding/hydrating him with a dropper and mashed food (so he'd have more time to have that miraculously recovery). Eventually he could hardly get up anymore, breathed raggedly and had become so skeletal, I broke down and took him to the vet and they confirmed it was hopeless. I regret having made him suffer unnecessarily.

The grass we typically get down here allows for a nice mellow buzz after a couple of hits or so. When I was in California for a conference a few years ago, about 5 of us went outside for a toke and the guy produced this teeny, toothpick thin doobie that made me think, " you call THAT a joint?" Holy moly, two hits off that thing and I was sitting on a bench with my head down trying not to pass out. It was more potent than the hash back in the 60s. I did not like it.

Three cases.
On hire (full criminal/driving/drug)
If you apply for a promotion (full criminal/driving/drug)
If you are in an accident (drug)...
Guy I worked with got fired last year after 16 years (of exemplary service) with the company. Was in a very minor fender bender (no damage/injuries). But it happened while he was on the phone with the boss. Told the boss, "Damn! A lady just rear ended me." Boss said, "I wish you wouldn't have told me that."...

My best friend is probably even more chronic than I am; about a year ago he got a temporary position where he had to be tested.
Knowing he could never *legitimately* pass a test, he got a friend of ours to pee in a container for him, and taped it to his butt cheeks.
He passed the test because of this and started the job shortly after that.
So a thought occurred to me: maybe they're really not testing for drugs; maybe they're testing just to see whether you're smart enough to pass a drug test.

Guy I knew ages ago was an IT person, very good at it. Loved pot. He worked a long temp gig at some place, and they adored him, and wanted to hire him. When they arrived with the offer, they wanted to hire him that same day. Meaning a drug test that same day, so, drive over to this clinic, pee for them, and come back here for the paperwork.
He politely told them that he would not pass a drug test today, and offered them the option of offering him a permanent job in however long it takes for the stuff to clear your system. And they said, uh, well, shoot, no.
So he took a different job, somewhere else.
I really do not see how the company gained anything by this.

Don't know how accurate it is, but here's a list of drugs and the times it takes to exit your system:
Alcohol - 3-5 days in urine (eTg), up to 90 in hair and around 10 - 12 hours in blood.
Amphetamines - 1 to 3 days in urine, up to 90 in hair and around 12 hours in blood.
MDMA (Ecstasy) 3-4 days in urine, up to 90 in hair and 1 - 2 days in blood.
Barbiturates - 2 to 4 days in urine, up to 90 in hair and 1 to 2 days in blood.
Phenobarbital - 2 to 3 weeks in urine, up to 90 in hair and up to a week in blood.
Benzodiazapines - 3 to 6 weeks in urine, up to 90 in hair and 2 - 3 days in blood.
Marijuana - 7 to 30 days in urine, up to 90 days in hair, two weeks in blood.
Methamphetamine (crystal) - 3 to 6 days in urine, up 90 in hair, 24 - 72 hours in blood.Cocaine - 3 to 4 days in urine, up to 90 days in hair, 1 - 2 days in blood.
Codeine - 1 day in urine, up to 90 days in hair, 12 hours in blood.
Fentanyl - 1 day in urine, up to 90 days in hair, 4 hours in blood.
Morphine - 2 -3 days in urine, up to 90 in hair, 6 - 8 hours in blood.
Heroin - 3 to 4 days in urine, up to 90 in hair, up to 12 hours in blood.
LSD - 1 to 3 days in urine, up to 3 days in hair, 2 - 3 hours in blood.
Methadone - 3 - 4 days in urine, up to 90 in hair, 24 - 36 hours in blood.PCP - up to 30 days in urine, up to 90 days in hair, 2 - 4 days in blood.
Dilaudid - 2 to 3 days in urine, up to 90 days in hair, up to 22 hours in blood.
Suboxone - 2 - 5 days in urine, up to 90 days in hair, up to 3 days in blood.
It's certainly weird that the one purportedly the least harmful is one of the drugs that takes the longest time to exit.

Many years ago, my best friend and I were looking for work. There wasn't much to be had in our hometown, but there was a construction project going on and we'd heard a rumor than one of the contractors were hiring.
We went there three or four times over the course of a month, to no avail. Maybe they took pity on us, or maybe they got a new project in; finally they agreed to take us both on, pending the results of a successful piss test.
We couldn't even stay off the weed for two days, let alone a month or so. We even smoked the night before the test.
Being the two brainiacs that we were, we knew we had try and do something. Of course, this was about 30 years ago, and back then everybody we knew smoked.
So yours truly got the absolutely brilliant idea to spike the urine sample with...Clorox.
We each took a small container with us to the test, with the idea of mixing it with the urine in the bizarre hope that it would, I dunno, neutralize the THC content or at least screw up the results.
The minute -- hell, *seconds* after we walked into the clinic, the receptionist says "Hey, you guys smell like bleach."
It will likely come as no surprise that we remained unemployed.

I'd be tempted (not sure about the legality, but maybe this or something similar) to tell them that if they keep this up, local prosecutors will file RICO charges against some Catholic Churches that transferred pedophile priests. Based on the fact Church donations were used to thwart the prosecution of pedophile priests.
Then sit back and warm my hands in the inevitable heat that would follow.

In January 2009, Goeglein became the Vice President of External Relations for Focus on the Family. The Colorado-based organization said Goeglein will be its "eyes and ears in Washington" as it defends issues such as rejecting same-sex marriage and for banning abortion.
On June 10, 2009, Geoglein said this about his former boss: "George W. Bush was the instrument in God’s hand" who, upon being told of the September 11 attacks, "immediately...knew that this was war and that we were being attacked existentially by radical Islam." Geoglein went on to say that George W. Bush "is a great thinker" and that "with the benefit of time and space. . . historians will look back at those remarkable, incredibly eventful eight years, and say, you know, he made the right decisions"

I think this really plays into the Dems favor. Something like 98% of the population (including catholics, evangelicals, etc) uses contraception. The Church and the Republican candidates are all now on record opposing condoms and birth control pills. It's a very unpopular and stupid position for them to take.

Aw - I don't feel like such a freak now.
In my experience, sometimes it can be much easier to access grief over a pet than over humans. It's embarrassing. It seems as if it "shouldn't" be that way.
I think that the reality is that grief over pets is certainly very real in it's own right - the unconditional love I share with pets is very powerful - but the grief I experience with pets is also a way to access the grief I have felt in the past over human deaths (or other situations of loss in the intra-human relationship department) but perhaps had some trouble accessing.
Could be just me, might just be psycho-babble, and certainly it isn't the case for everyone else all the time, but I do think it might be something of a general phenomenon.

No one's going to be fooled by that stupid defense of the knicker joke.
I doubt the founding fathers even used the word to describe their knee-breeches, since it apparently didn't come into general use until 1866.
knickers
"short, loose-fitting undergarment," now usually for women but not originally so, 1866, shortening of knickerbockers (1859), said to be so called for their resemblance to the trousers of old-time Dutchmen in Cruikshank's illustrations for Washington Irving's "History of New York" [1809] (see knickerbocker).
[Link: www.etymonline.com...]
The word pantaloons entered the language in the 17th century as a term of ridicule for long pants. At the time, fashionable Englishmen were still wearing knee-breeches. (They were still wearing them in 1776; think U.S. Founding Fathers.)

The "artists'" own defense is going to be "the joke was satirizing the double standard of the rappers being allowed to say the n-word". They're not going to deny that the joke is deliberate.
The BJ defense is that there was no joke at all, and that's where this defense fails. Whether the FF's used the word is not the issue, IMHO.

This is one of the happiest days of my life. I’m starting to wonder what equality will be like. I know that straight people have equality and are perfectly capable of making a hash of their lives anyway. But, still — just the thought of the opportunities and security that have been denied to me as a lesbian all my life because I am a lesbian now opening up makes me feel like my body — and my future — are filled with light.

In this case "mental illness" is part of a social mal-adaptation disorder where people intentionally avoid reality and create for themselves a delusion into which escape is their goal.

Speaking of delusional:
George Lucas: Greedo always shot first
Despite the fact that millions of people saw the scene in theaters and no one ever had any doubt about what happened, Lucas is now saying that Greedo always shot first, and his edits were just making that more obvious.
“It had been done in all close-ups and it was confusing about who did what to whom,” Lucas told THR. “I put a little wider shot in there that made it clear that Greedo is the one who shot first, but everyone wanted to think that Han shot first, because they wanted to think that he actually just gunned him down.”
Because he did!
Lucas goes on to blame the rest of the world for wanting Han to be a “cold-blooded killer,” thus misinterpreting the film for decades.

Here for example is a Hannan piece in the Telegraph:
[...]
The answer depends on whether we include India. If we do, whites and Christians are a small minority of the Anglosphere population. So, do we?
Yes. India is a democracy, its army doesn't interfere in politics, it respects the separation of powers. But, more to the point, it is part of the Anglosphere culture. Passing through Delhi for the first time in seven years, I am struck by how much more Anglophone it is. Yes, of course a lot of Indians have always spoken English at home; but the attempts by previous governments to promote Hindi as a unifying language sent an entire generation down a linguistic cul-de-sac. The spread of call-centres and television and the internet have spread not only a language but a way of looking at the world. And while lakhs of villages may be wholly untouched (yes, lakhs: it's a two-way street, this Anglosphere business), the rapid embourgeoisement of India is profoundly altering her temper.
Ultimately, though, all these considerations are secondary. The Anglosphere is based on a common culture, a sense of unifying identity. Like almost all Britons, I feel such a sense in India in a way that I don't in Europe (except sometimes in Scandinavia). It can reside in a shared book, a shared joke, sometimes just a shared look, but it's there.
[...]
That's from 4 years ago. Whether he has grown harder on "whiteness" I do not know.
