Sarah Palin Hints That She Might Be Available, in a Pinch

Half-governor giddy with possibility

How much more awesome can one presidential campaign get?

Now Sarah Palin is hinting around that if, you know, it comes down to, like, a brokered convention or whatever? She might be available. That is, if nobody else is into it.

I’m all for it. Imagine the debates.

BOLLING: Governor, a lot of people are saying it can’t happen. I don’t necessarily agree with them. If one of the nominees, one of the GOPers, doesn’t get enough delegates, it could go the a brokered convention.

If it does get to that and someone said, Governor, would you be interested, would you be interested?

PALIN: Well, for one, I think that it could get to that. And I — you know, if it had to — if it had to be kind of closed up today, the whole nominating process, then we would be looking at a brokered convention.

I mean nobody is quite there yet. So I think that months from now, if that’s the case, then, you know, all bets are off as to who it will be willing to offer themselves up in the name of service to their country. I would — I would do whatever I could to help.

A Palin nomination would be like manna from heaven for Obama.

I definitely haven't been good enough to deserve Palin as the GOP presidential nominee.

the way things are going, the candidate that's surging by the time of the convention will either be millard fillmore or charlie the tuna

Getting the Base to accept Romney as the nominee has been like getting a kid to swallow a spoonful of castor oil.

OT Oddity: Megadeth frontman backs Rick Santorum

"You know, I think Santorum has some presidential qualities, and I'm hoping that if it does come down to it, we'll see a Republican in the White House... and that it's Rick Santorum."

I don't even...

None of us have, which is why we might have to settle for Santorum. He'd still be a hilariously bad candidate, but Caribou Barbie would reach new heights of incompetence if she was the nominee.

But that really would be the biggest joke of this year, wouldn't it? That Palin never had to campaign, never had to run against the rest of the Peanut Gallery, and would still get the nomination at the convention. The party's albatross crowned king for all to see.

No debates except for the multi-rehearsed, where she will not answer one question.

Really, this could be good.

Ego wins over basic (and I emphasize) basic intellect.

Their only chance is that Obama will step down and the Dems will somehow nominate Harry Reid. Given the 2010 results, I'm not sure about even that.

I think the phenomenon is much bigger than metal, rock stars in general have big personalities, big opinions, and are disconnected from normal life and normal struggles, so their politics tend to be wild and zany

I'm talking about the fans in general. I've gone to metal sites and message boards and seen plenty of wingnuts around there. They're largely of the "Lirbrulz wanna take mah gunz and mah job!" variety, but they exist.

If they got their wingnut queen, they sure couldn't blame the loss on her not being conservative enough.

43 Tigger2  Wed, Feb 15, 2012 6:13:20pm

She sank McCain when she was in the second seat, Just imagine how fast she would sink the GOP if she were the nomination.

44 Petero1818  Wed, Feb 15, 2012 6:32:51pm

I have been saying this all along. Palin knows that she could not compete effectively in a traditional primary. She could never go through that many debates and survive. Her only way in is maverick like. Parachute in at last minute on her so called laurels and conservative bona fides. Untested but with plenty of sound bites and enthusiasm. There is sufficient ambivalence towards all the other candidates that it could actually work. And if she failed to win the convention she has the ego protection to say that she was only answering the call and it was a long shot at best. Now competing against Obama, well that will make for great comedy.

45 Ming  Wed, Feb 15, 2012 7:32:06pm

Palin will run only if she can convince herself that as President, she would be able to suppress all journalism about her.

When Joe McGinniss' book came out last year, Palin got the message loud and clear: when you run for such a very, very high office, The Real Truth About The Real You is almost impossible to keep hidden.

I think she's positioning herself for what Newt Gingrich has already promised her: a big role in a Republican administration. Maybe Secretary of Energy, or Secretary of the Interior. "Drill Baby Drill": 1 slogan covers both cabinet positions! It's a sign from God.

This is one time when I really hope I'm right. I still find it very disturbing that she got 46% of the vote in 2008, and that wasn't for Vice President of her high school class.

46 SidewaysQuark  Wed, Feb 15, 2012 8:16:16pm

As hilarious as Sarah Palin being "brokered" into the nominee spot would be, it just ain't gonna happen.

I stand by my prediction that Romney will pull this off after a struggle. (Again, unless it doesn't happen, in which case I won't draw attention to the fact I predicted it, and will say 'look at the ones I got right'!)

47 Ojoe  Wed, Feb 15, 2012 8:24:29pm

re: #46 SidewaysQuark

IMHO it might just well happen, and she could be the next president.

You never know, and we'll see I guess.

Certainly nothing looks predictable to me at this point.

She actually could help. The Democrats. So yes, Sarah, please "do whatever" you "could to help."

50 labman57  Thu, Feb 16, 2012 6:34:06am

Palin has had plenty of opportunities to step up to the plate and declare her candidacy. But she lacks the intellect, the work ethic, and the intestinal fortitude for a serious campaign ... and she knows it.

But she's gotta keep up appearances, lest her foolish fan base come to their collective senses and recognize that Sarah only cares about the popular and financial success of Sarah.

So instead she has opted for the world of "make believe" where she can pretend that she is -- or might possibly, perhaps, one day officially become -- a candidate, and thereby rake in millions of dollars (via donations, book sales, and speaking engagements), bask in the media spotlight, give shallow, snarky speeches and interviews, and evade any true responsibilities.

Advice to Palinites -- get used to the disappointment.
