New Poll Finds Republicans in ‘State of Collapse’

“A resurgence of unmarried women”
Politics • Views: 34,001

A new survey from Democracy Corps finds Republicans in deep trouble at almost all levels, and new voter enthusiasm among Democrats — especially among unmarried women, oddly enough.

A new Democracy Corps (D) survey finds the Republican brand “is in a state of collapse — over 50 percent of voters give the Republican Party a cool, negative rating. The presidential race and the congressional battles are interacting with each other to drive down their lead candidate, the party, and perceptions of the congressional Republicans.” …

Most interesting: Voters who gave Democrats their victories in 2006 and 2008 “have returned in a big way” led by “a resurgence and re-engagement of unmarried women.”

Democracy Corps is a non-profit founded by James Carville, so I’m sure they have a liberal agenda, but the poll seems to have been conducted professionally and scientifically; you can check out the questions and results here (PDF).

Cue the right wing attacks on the unmarried women.

There are seriously Freeper threads where they advocate taking the right to vote away from women.

That seems to be a reoccurring right wing theme. Take away the vote from groups who don't vote for us. I can tell you as a former student, they've always had hostility to us voting. Why? Because students vote Democratic mostly and in their fucked up mindset have "no responsibilities."

I have to admire the scale of this GOP-driven false flag effort to discredit itself. It's almost zen. "What is the sound of one party flailing?"

Why would they be collapsing when they have visionaries like Rick Santorum leading the party?

Perhaps they're unaware that women are born with trigger fingers too.

According to Bryan Fischer, they lack the strength to pull a trigger.

Sample comment:

It’s dangerous to make broad generalizations. But it is true. Women tend more to think emotionally than men do. And our government today would be much more conservative had women never been allowed to vote.

Then there was Ann Coulter:

If we took away women's right to vote, we'd never have to worry about another Democrat president. It's kind of a pipe dream, it's a personal fantasy of mine, but I don't think it's going to happen. And it is a good way of making the point that women are voting so stupidly, at least single women.

This quote tells you what a miserable person Ann Coulter is. She'd be willing to take a basic personal freedom from women simply because she hates Democrats that much.

For all the profound insanity of the GOP, and hooo-boy that there is some powerful stupid-crazy, the last month or three has left me pretty optimistic about the future of this country. This helps.

I'm pretty sure she believes everything she says. She became famous because she was a wingnut and remains a wingnut. It may seem contrived but she's the genuine article.

I just looked at the the Wikipedia article for the 19th Amendment. There's a section at the bottom of the article about how some guy took his case against it all the way to the Supreme Court. His argument... "Destroyed state autonomy"

There's that term again. Same as it ever was.

Well, Nixon was the most corrupt President in the History of the United States. Just because he did a few good things doesn't change that.

No surprise that many Republicans are wondering how they got to where they are now. Their entire focus has been on manufacturing lies about, and hating, one person: Barack Obama.

They couldn't care less about strengthening the economic recovery. Actually, many Republicans would be delighted to see a weak economy in 2012, since that would be bad for Obama.

They aren't interested in doing much of anything, except, as Mitch McConnell put it, making Obama a one-term president.

This is where the Republican Party has been psychologically for at least the past year. The sole yardstick by which they measure their presidential candidates is: can he beat Obama? They're just not real INTERESTED in anything else.

No wonder they're feeling demoralized.

Yeah, but that assumes that this hasn't been working well enough for them so far. Just enough in the short term is enough to justify their continued behavior.

37 teresa  Thu, Feb 16, 2012 3:56:44pm

This collapse isn't shocking though, in fact the reasons for the collapse were evident today during Daryl Issa's sham hearing on contraception. Most women, not just unmarried women can see exactly what is going on here, the Republican Party doesn't just lack respect overall for women, they believe we are children, we lack the capacity to make our own decisions about our lives.

What we are witnessing is the massive overreach for which these folks are famous. This is what they learned during Gingrich's tenure as Speaker. You'd think they would have learned after the humiliating defeat of Gingrich, but no, they have not just doubled-downed, they've dug in, and have taken the culture war to a new level, one where they've assured themselves of a loss in November. The only question is how big will they lose, will it be a 1964 style wipe-out? I know one thing for sure, I will enjoy immensely their defeat in the fall.
