Video: Romney Has Lots of Cars, but No Audience

If Romney gaffes in an empty stadium, did he make a sound?
Politics • Views: 29,194

Here’s Mitt Romney in Detroit, casually mentioning the many automobiles he and his wife own.

Maybe even more embarrassing: this CSPAN clip, that pans across the 65,000-seat stadium, with about 64,000 empty seats.

How much does it cost to rent a friggin' stadium? Was that a case of vastly overestimated attendance, or what?

According to CSPAN: "The event, hosted by the Detroit Economic Club, was scheduled to take place at a hotel conference room, but was moved to Ford Field to accommodate more people after it sold out."

Another legal challenge to Obama being on the ballot has been filed in Alaska.

[Link: obamaballotchallenge.com...]

Copy of the actual complaint:
[Link: www.turningleft.net...]

The relevant part of the complaint:

Barack Hussein Obama II, Aka Barack Hussein Obama, Aka Barack H. Obama has the race status of being a "Mulatto." Barack Obama's father (Barack Hussein Obama I) was a full blood Negro being born Nyang'oma Kogelo, Nyanza Province, Kenya and raised in the Colony of Kenya. Barack Obama's mother (Stanley Ann Dunham) was a white Caucasian woman being born in Wichita, Kansas on November 29, 1942 and raised in the state of Washington and in the State of Hawaii.

As stated above, for an Individual to be a Candidate for the Office of President of the United States, the Candidate must meet the qualifications set forth in the United States Constitution and one of those qualifications is that the Candidate shall be a "natural born Citizen" of the United States. As Barack Hussein Obama II is of the "Mulatto" race, his status of citizenship is founded upon the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. Before the [purported] ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment, the race of "Negro" or "Mulatto" had no standing to be citizens of the United States under the United States Constitution.

Sounds like something designed to be a combination fund raiser and PR event. I wonder what group(s) bought all the tickets.

Or, and possibly more likely it was simple overkill from trying to find a venue for 1,100 people.

Which makes for facepalm class visuals though. Someone did not think this through. As someone alluded to in another thread this footage is ideal for making a 99% vs 1% comparison ad.

Fischer: Attacking Santorum is insulting Jesus

His positions simply make good common and moral sense to the majority of Americans. For instance, they know that Jesus believed in the existence of Satan, and said more about him than any other figure in the Bible. They know perfectly well that if elites have a problem with Santorum's Satan talk, their problem is not with Santorum, it is with Jesus.

It's the elites who are too dull to recognize that by attacking Santorum on this issue they are insulting Jesus Christ himself. The message of the elites is thus that Jesus himself was also too stupid to understand that Satan is just a figment of a hyper-active imagination.

And they are also insulting anyone and everyone who sincerely believes in Jesus and believes he had some idea what he was talking about. If you are trying to knock Santorum into the next zip code, this is not a smart move.

Satan’s Indoctrination Camps.

Let’s just say for the sake of argument that Rick Santorum has “grown” in the last year or two that he’s been running for president. Let’s say he’s right in whining about media coverage of his campaign—that reporters should focus on his not-terribly-unique message of wanting to cut taxes and spending, instead of the vastly more interesting things he was saying about the metaphysical order of the universe and the direction of human history way, way back in 2008, in the virtual infancy of his political career.

But if that’s how Santorum wants to play it, why is he going onto Glenn Beck’s show for a whole hour and saying stuff like this:

HE'S ATTACKING JESUS!!!

I dunno. Maybe not such an easy call. Someone had to weigh turning away an audience vs. the potential for short term embarrassment over a potentially bad visual - although, they were probably counting on the blue Detroit Economic Club as the primary backdrop rather than a sea of empty seats.

Groovy. I finally debugged that regular expression for matching URLs in a comment, that I mentioned in the previous thread.

The problem occurred if you had an HTML-formatted link like this one, followed by a bare text link like this one:

[Link: www.theatlantic.com...]

Followed by another HTML-formatted link.

If it really is debugged all the links in this comment will work...

And this should also fix the problem several people have noticed where embedding MP3s in comments or Pages would sometimes just show the text of the URL instead of the MP3 player.

Aritst Shepard Fairey, who created the iconic "Hope" campaign poster featuring then-Sen. Barack Obama for the 2008 presidential campaign, pleaded guilty in Manhattan Federal Court on Friday to one count of criminal contempt for destroying documents, manufacturing evidence and other misconduct.

I don't understand what Shepherd was thinking. He filed this lawsuit. Both photographs, the actual one and the one he falsely alleged to have used were both AP photographs and were both taken by the same photographer. That photographer supported their use by Fairey. The only difference I can find is that the photograph Fairey falsely claimed he used is claimed to be the property of the friendly photographer while the actual photograph's rights were apparently transferred to the AP.

Why he didn't just say "Yeah, I used your shit, that's how I roll," is something I'll never understand. Instead of waiting for them to file he jumped the gun and perpetrated an elaborate, pointless hoax upon the court.

So disappointing.

If your venue is sold out and you're already losing in the polls because of your idiocy regarding the auto bailouts, the LAST thing you do is change venues. You go with the visual of people being turned away from a sold out speech instead of one where you're talking to a near-empty stadium. This is PR 101.

Israeli activist's university address turns violent

Darwish cast the Arab Spring in a bad light. She argued that democratic revolutions in the Middle East and North Africa, such as those in Egypt and Tunisia, would not succeed as long as Islamists controlled them.

A group of people, who were acting in solidarity with the Palestinian people, questioned Darwish’s fear-mongering and her unqualified support for Israel. They were shouted down by pro-Israel members in the audience, who assaulted a woman, pulled her hair, and forcibly pushed another person over a row of seats. A third person was punched in the face. Pro-Israel members also destroyed a phone that was used to record the assault.

I think you're missing the part where they can't be separated.

EXACTLY. There is no separating the two issues.

If I was handling Mitt Romney's PR (*shudder*) I would have kept whatever venue he had and gone with the visual of too many people showing up to see him speak. This would have given the Romney campaign the chance to say hey, the polls are wrong, look at how many people came to hear Mitt, people believe in our message, etc.

Instead, they tried to change venues in a city that's already pissed at him because of his idiocy on the auto bailouts and he ends up speaking to a near-empty stadium, making his campaign look pathetic as a result.

It's the same image disaster that John McCain had when he gave a speech in front of a lime green background the same night that Barack Obama was accepting the nomination in front of a stadium filled with thousands of cheering supporters.

Like it or not, staging matters. Visuals matter. This was a horrible decision by the Romney campaign.

Probably. I guess I am still amazed that Santorum of all the candidates has emerged as his biggest rival. Thought it would be Perry, Newt, or even Cain. So, no. They do not know how to live life nor how to have fun.

And they are gonna make sure no one else does neither.

I certainly don't want to see the Obama campaign get complacent - and I'm sure they won't.

Even if the corporate media and all its beltway blather-bots declared an Obama win inevitable, there's still the enormous effort required to retain the Senate and clean out the House. No room for complacency, not for a New York minute.

Funny that we insult guys by calling them pussies, especially considering how most guys feel about pussies. Being told they are flaccid should be a more pointed insult.

So WND has a list up of 2011's worst anti-christian movies. cached link.

I don't even recognize/recall the majority of them, but the description of the last one made me laugh.

"Worst Stoner Mockery of Quests". Ha!

It's hilarious how they list "Magical Thinking" as a problem with Happy Feet 2. Religion is FULL of magical thinking, especially WND's brand of Christianity.

It's more of an addiction really, of which obsession is a part.

I have a relative who refused to take 3 minutes out of their time to go down the road and drop me off at the auto parts store because she was on her way to church, for the third time that week, and did not want to be late. Definitely an addiction.

That sounds pretty accurate.

Nope. Romney needs to go full "rock star" at this point. Convince the public that acting haughty and above them is a necessary part of his stardom and superiority. And having sold-out shows means that they were too slow to offer the attention he deserves.

I'm trying to imagine him being slowly lowered onto the stage in a costume reminiscent of David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust or 70s KISS, with smoke and backlighting as the pyros go off all around him. He windmills a few A maj chords on his Gibson Explorer (with mirror pickguard) and sparks shoot out of the headstock. He gives the audience whatever the Mormon version is of the Ronnie James Dio "evil eye" gesture before launching into a Whitesnake-style power ballad about The Job Creators.

Not to be outdone, Santorum takes on an Evangelical Alice Cooper stage persona and handles snakes on stage while singing "Will The Fetus Be Aborted" to the tune of "Will The Circle Be Unbroken." He wears a black leather sweater vest with silver Catholic iconography all over it. Stage dancers dressed as Carmelite nuns writhe piously.

Ever the narcissist's narcissist, Gingrich goes David Lee Roth and takes to the stage shirtless and bedecked in rainbow spandex pants with the buttcheeks cut out. He rubs his nipples and sweats profusely while doing high jumps and endlessly talking about HOW FUCKING FANTASTIC he is.

As another prisoner of conventional wisdom once said in similar circumstances, “Please don’t throw me in that briar patch!”

I certainly don't want to see the Obama campaign get complacent - and I'm sure they won't. I'm just seeing the miles and miles of fodder that the last few months have provided them that make any Rep campaign, whether Romney or even moreso, Santorum, look like the out-of-control jackasses that they are. Obama knows how to campaign - we saw that in 2008. He will make mincemeat of them with their own grinder.

I gotta say that I am enthusiastically looking forward to it.

Remember that awesome video put out by OFA that showed Obama on a bike, cruising to the win. Then he crashes and McCain won?

Snapped us out of it, for sure.

When Lawmakers Don't "Get Lucky"

In one of the weirdest speeches you will ever see on the floor of a legislative body, Virginia Del. David Albo (R) spoke to his colleagues (and television cameras) about his failed attempt to seduce his wife as a result of the contentious abortion debate in the state.

Romney: "Ann drives a couple of Cadillacs." Now that's how you make an appeal to the common man. Good thing no one was in the audience, but the pundits and comedians will still have fun with this one.

Romney is just as robotic as usual. He'll probably get the nomination because even the GOP hates Gingrich now, and Santorum is going nowhere with the general populace (see his comments on "blah" people, pregnant rape victims, contraception, etc.)

So that leaves Romney who's very unlikely to excite in the general...his best hope is lots of bad news for Obama, especially in economic terms.

re: #205 ggt

How does one do that?

Well, I'd say that one should never mess with something on a computer if they are uncomfortable with doing so, but I see this more of a maintenance thing, so here goes.

First thing that I'd probably do is search spotlight for "console", go into it, and search for "i/o". If "i/o error" pops up, it could be a bad hard drive. If not...

Make sure you use time machine before you attempt this, but search spotlight for "disk utility", select your main Macintosh HD, and hit repair (not verify) disk permissions on the lefthand side. Then restart. If it persists, it may be a bad hard drive, in which case the backing up certainly helps. I use a utility called SMARTReporter that checks my internal drive for errors every once in a while, so I'd suggest this in case the permissions fix does not work.

If all else fails I would at least try to run some more hardware tests if you can find some tool out there for free (or go to your local computer shop and ask for a diagnosis). If you can rule out hardware, then it is half the battle, really. Software issues would just take some reinstallation or a run through with Disc Warrior.

I actually voted for the Mittster in the MI GOP Primary in the last election cycle. Yikes that was a loooong time ago. He might end up winning the meaningless primary here again this time, but even if he does he has zero chance of carrying the state in the General Election.
