In Possibly Most Ironic Thing Ever, Breitbart.com Claims Obama Harvard Tape ‘Selectively Edited’

Irony meter emits squealing noise, catches fire, explodes
Wingnuts • Views: 36,154

I guess if anyone would know about “selective editing,” it’s the shiny-faced mini-Breitbarts: THE VETTING: Ben Smith Releases Selectively Edited Obama Race Video.

“THE VETTING” refers to the last project bequeathed to them by their forefather; they’re “vetting” President Obama with BOMBSHELLS and EXCLUSIVES and video clips from his days at Harvard, hanging out with shocking angry black radicals associated with … gasp! … Jeremiah Wright, wearing a beret, and holding his cigarette like a Frenchman.

Tonight on Hannity — the BREITBARTOCALYPSE will not be stopped!

Earlier today, Buzzfeed’s Ben Smith announced on Twitter that video researcher Andrew Kaczynski had released “the mysterious Harvard/Obama/race video that the Breitbart folks have been talking about.”

The video, which Kaczynski says was “licensed from a Boston television station,” shows a young Barack Obama leading a protest at Harvard Law School on behalf of Prof. Derrick Bell, a radical academic tied to Jeremiah Wright—about whom we will be releasing significant information in the coming hours.

However, the video has been selectively edited—either by the Boston television station or by Buzzfeed itself. Over the course of the day, Breitbart.com will be releasing additional footage that has been hidden by Obama’s allies in the mainstream media and academia.

This is what I tweeted a little earlier - looks like I was right.

UPDATE at 3/7/12 1:46:58 pm

Ben Smith of Buzzfeed is peeved at the mini-Breitbarts, and says the video they released was not edited at all:

A professor with vaguely democratic ties is being branded a 'radical academic'.

Someone fucking fetch my smelling salts.

Breitbart's people crying about selective editing? Hahahahaha excuse me but hahhaha.

4 Gus  Wed, Mar 7, 2012 1:49:24pm

Lee Atwater all over again. Instead of using the n-word they're replacing "states rights" in this instance with "diversity." This has always been the case. It's another Southern Strategy. First it was ACRON. Then Shirley Sherrod and the NAACP. Now it's "diversity" and a black professor that helped champion diversity in the Harvard.

5 Charleston Chew  Wed, Mar 7, 2012 1:51:43pm

Maybe they have more footage of that guy eating a sandwich.

6 Renaissance_Man  Wed, Mar 7, 2012 1:52:36pm

It's absolutely hilarious and sad that the most radical extremists in the country, who want to dismantle the US government, erase all trace of the commons, and plunge the US into a neo-feudal, corporate dystopia, are so eager to label everyone else as 'radical'.

7 Charles Johnson  Wed, Mar 7, 2012 1:54:02pm

Can they really have thought this was going to be huge news?

Maybe it's just missing the old Andrew Breitbart snake oil showmanship. Maybe they'll never measure up to the standard he set. That would be a shame, wouldn't it?

So…we scooped Breitbart.com, & thus they’re attacking us.

The Breitlings are just pissed that they didn't have time to deceptively edit their copy and release it before the raw, unedited version hit the interwebs.

Other than cutting out the part where he called on the spirit of Che Guevara to bless the proceedings---oh, and that sentence about Marx being our guide or maybe god---what kind of editing do they think was done and how might it be misleading?

Ron Paul aides ponder ‘frustrating’ race

Paul may still emerge with a big chunk of delegates in the GOP nominating race, but the candidate’s much-hyped focus on caucus states has yet to yield an outright victory in any state.

This gap between dreams and reality came to a head during a Wednesday morning conference call for senior staff when the discussion turned to why the campaign keeps underperforming its own forecasts.

“They count the numbers and then they count the votes,” said Doug Wead, a Paul senior adviser who was on the call. “Did they get overconfident? … We’re digesting that.”

Fischer: The Left Hates Women

Fischer returned to the topic on his radio program again today, during a segment in which proclaimed that all the misogyny, hatred, and vulgar attacks on women almost always comes from the Left because the Right respects women and treats them with dignity. In fact, explained Fischer, there is really no difference between the Left and Islamic Radicals, who see women as "something less than human."

Then, after proclaiming that the Right always treats women respectfully, he then proceeded to again attack Fluke as a someone who is "sleeping with so many guys she can’t keep track [and] doing it three times a day" while wondering if President Obama would be proud if his daughters turned out like that:

Limbaugh, citing claims he had lost 28 sponsors, said that is “out of 18,000. That’s like losing a couple of french fries in the container when it’s delivered to you in the drive thru. You don’t even notice it.”

“We have three brand new sponsors that will be starting in the next two weeks. Wisconsin Republicans Complain Voter ID Judge Signed Walker Recall Petition

Wisconsin Republicans have filed a complaint about the judge who temporarily blocked a voter ID law from taking effect, arguing he couldn’t be a neutral arbitrator because he signed a petition calling for the recall of Gov. Scott Walker (R).

The complaint, filed with the Wisconsin Judicial Commission, said that Judge David Flanagan should have recused himself from the case or at least disclosed that he had signed the Walker recall petition. They pointed out that the group circulating the petition listed the voter ID law as one of the reasons to recall Walker.

So if a Judge doesn't agree with the GOP, he should recuse himself due to bias?

Revealed: Derrick Bell's HBO Sci-Fi Blaxploitation Flick

by Joel B. Pollak 14 minutes ago 0 post a comment
Derrick Bell, the man whose scholarship inspired Barack Obama, was the Jeremiah Wright of academia.

And a Hollywood cult hero.

Bell was one of the chief proponents of Critical Race Theory, a radical doctrine that holds that American legal institutions—including our civil rights laws—perpetuate white supremacy.

Bell’s ideas were not only radical, but bizarre. After leaving Harvard (he resigned in 1992), he wrote a racialist, antisemitic fictional essay entitled “The Space Traders,” which Ninth Circuit judge Alex Kozinski described in the New York Times with disgust:

[...]

161 Gus  Wed, Mar 7, 2012 3:34:31pm

Derrick Bell, First Tenured Black Professor at HLS, Dies

Excerpts:

• Once called the “Rosa Parks of legal education” by President Obama, Derrick A. Bell—the first tenured black professor at Harvard Law School—died Wednesday night. He was 80 years old.

• Bell went to work for the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Justice Department, resigning after being asked to rescind his membership in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

• Bell was then hired by the NAACP, working with Thurgood Marshall to develop a legal strategy to fight school segregation in the South.

Andrew Mitchell was quick to defend President Obama and Derrick Bell from the emerging story stemming from Breitbart.com's Harvard footage. In the video, a young Barack Obama is seen lavishing praise upon Derrick Bell, known as a campus radical, before a crowd of students.

"This is classic Obama," Mitchell gushed.

Speaking of the context in which Obama is seen:

Fischer loves Santorum

the American people love Santorum for it. His message is resonating with ordinary Americans who are ecstatic to have a public figure who fearlessly defends their values and has the character and integrity to back it up. He doesn't just talk a good game, he lives a good game.

NBC's Chuck Todd said last night that Santorum has the "silent majority" in his corner, and he's right. How else can you explain his steady climb toward the top of the pyramid? He's been outspent and out-organized, and yet there he is, running neck and neck with a candidate everyone concedes generates no enthusiasm in the Republican base.

Apparently Breibart readers are opposed to Obama speaking at a rally to end racism and exclusion of black men and women in the Harvard faculty.

I wonder why that is?

The breitbart video is darker, fuzzier, and of much lower quality. The BuzzFeed one is more clear, it's clearly been Photoshopped (snicker)!!!

Bill Maher: Dems Should Accept Limbaugh's Apology

The number of advertisers who are running away from Rush Limbaugh continues to climb, but the conservative talk show host found some support from an unlikely source this week: Bill Maher.

The late night comedian took to Twitter to tell his fellow liberals to accept Limbaugh's apology and move on: "Hate to defend #RushLimbaugh but he apologized, liberals looking bad not accepting. Also hate intimidation by sponsor pullout"

Of course, as CBS News reminds us, Maher is no stranger to controversy himself. Earlier this year the comedian faced a boycott for a controversial tweet about Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow.

EDIT: Forgot to add...

1. No one can accept an apology on behalf of the person that was apologized too. That's not how it works.

2. Limbaugh's statement was less of an apology, and more of an excuse to repeat the lies he'd been making regarding Ms. Fluke's testimony.

253 Lidane  Wed, Mar 7, 2012 4:25:18pm

re: #241 Gus

I still don't see the logic in condemning the whole concept of boycotts. It makes no sense.

We put financial pressure on people we don't agree with all the time. That's the whole point of a government using trade embargoes, sanctions, tariffs, freezing assets, etc. It's a way to get people to do what you want by squeezing their wallet, since it's something people readily understand.

Even boycotts that I think are made of fail, like the ones against JC Penney because of Ellen and against Archie comics for a gay character, have at least some sort of logic behind them. It's people expressing their opinion through economic pressure.

For those of us who are women or who aren't but give a fuck about them, it's not just "outrageous outrage," of course.

Once you adopt a world-view in which Women Simply Don't Matter, a lot of what KT is saying makes perfect sense. Those darn uppity liberals! OWS!

I can use my Beatles albums for kindling. Where's my copy of Huck Finn?

I suppose I could throw some of my old Lovecraft stuff on the bon fire, but that may come with unfathomable consequences.

Bill Maher: Dems Should Accept Limbaugh's Apology

EDIT: Forgot to add...

1. No one can accept an apology on behalf of the person that was apologized too. That's not how it works.

2. Limbaugh's statement was less of an apology, and more of an excuse to repeat the lies he'd been making regarding Ms. Fluke's testimony.

Two excellent points in your edit!

KT, at this point I'm beginning to conclude that you're engaging in the slowest flounce in LGF history. That or you really are this naive, I can't tell.

It feels much like when Cato was burning out. Different styles yet I can't help but feel it's like that.

Just having some fun. Rush's comments are not comparable at all to the Dixie Chicks, just referencing them in the context of boycotts.

I don't really give a shit who boycotts what. I don't see it as being terribly effective. The Dixie Chicks didn't disappear from the music industry, and neither will Rush disappear from talk radio.

I agree. These things work too often for my taste but it's not really a big deal. I am surprised that there is so little serious discussion about the boycotts in general but people here seem pretty universally attached to the idea.

I do boycott stuff on a personal basis, but it's usually based on a shitty, personal experience. Like getting a glass with lipstick on it at a restaurant. I stop going to that restaurant.

I just don't join boycotts on advertisers. Reminds me too much of my evangelical relatives in the 80's. Even knowing all I know about this Rush/Fluke thing, I'd still buy a SleepNumber bed even if they decided to continue to advertise on his show.

Public protests are a non-patriotic demonstration of unAmerican ideas by people who want to destroy society as we know it! *

* ... unless said protests are conducted by members of the tea party, in which case they're the ultimate display of democracy and patriotism against the evils of the establishment.

Most of the "Boycotters" are still buying products from Rush's advertisers too. It's all about spamming phone lines.

Which the advertisers know. But they know a percentage will actually switch. And moreover, they know that fewer people will apply there if it's seen as a place that promotes intolerance, and employees may quit over it.

Just like they know a lot of people are pissed off by this but aren't calling them.

The people who were pissed off and hated Rush yesterday are the same people who will hate Rush tomorrow. They will still spam the phone lines of companies if properly motivated. The number of people who aren't going to buy a mattress over this is pretty negligible.

If its of negligible importance you can stop posting about the boycott which doesn't matter.

Nope. By doing this, he's pissed off a lot of people that hadn't before, because this was a high-profile attack that lasted a long time, and it was so viciously mysogynistic.

Sure, he's said other things like this before, but by engaging in something that was already big news and by using specifically naked language, he put himself center stage and so a lot more people heard his statement than would otherwise. A lot of people who like him but find him 'over the top' found this even more over the top.

They will still spam the phone lines of companies if properly motivated. The number of people who aren't going to buy a mattress over this is pretty negligible.

Oh, so there is no actual economic pressure! Great, glad to know V5 of your argument directly undercuts V4 of your argument. Nice one.

I don't know how I feel about boycotting advertisers in general. Is it effective, are there any side effects, etc? I don't know. I personally boycott a large number of products and companies for a range of reasons, but advertising with a particular person/group isn't usually one of them.

However, I do think this boycott has had some good effects. Prior to Rush's disgusting comments the GOP was very carefully trying to sell their bill as a religious freedom bill rather than as a control your sexuality bill. Then Rush stands up, yells "slut" etc, and destroys all that careful spin. And in the scramble to protect Rush from the backlash, including the boycott, the entire GOP drops the religious freedom facade.

I have been watching Maddow's graphs on the percentages of high earners who vote for Romney.

I assume others have too, but I thought it would be a worthwhile topic for a thread. It is really quite revealing, and shows something fundamental about our society if true.

Either success has nothing to do with intelligence or it has nothing to do with morality; or both.

Sorry, no links researched.
