What is even more hilarious, is that having taken down their own sites through total stupidity, they have doubled down by refusing to restore them using backups to return them to their previous condition until they figure out how to properly make the changes they wanted in the first place.

You guys were doing backups?

So, instead of restoring from backups and then making the changes when they figure out what went wrong, they're just going to leave things fucked up until they feel they've figured it out.

It's actually sad to think that Andy was the only thing keeping this "brain trust" running.

Will have to research that. I am not a web guru. My experience with running a Board has been limited to the the dial-up world of BBSing. I always made a weekly back up and anytime I made a software/hardware change to the setup just because, Shit Happens.

Perhaps it is different now a days.

Well, assuming The Blaze is being honest here, it seems that Limbaugh is fiddling as his show burns:

The Blaze: LIMBAUGH REJECTS COMPANY THAT SUSPENDED ADS FROM SHOW OVER FLUKE REMARKS

So a company tries to come back after only suspending its ads, but Rush's ego will not allow him to welcome them back into the fold.

Because these outrageous outrages don't last very long. In few weeks all the telephone spammers will be off in pursuit of the next shiny object. These ad deals take a while so by starting now they were planing for ads to start up again in a few weeks.

Defending Limbaugh's Right to His Despicable Speech

We liberals are supposed to be arch-supporters of First Amendment free expression -- the right of anyone, anywhere, to say anything he or she wants, at any time. That is America. If you don't like the speech, then counter it with more speech. Duke it out -- with words.

But when I hear liberal commentators calling for boycotting any business that advertises on the Limbaugh show, or calling on radio stations carrying the show to cancel it, I start to get nervous -- as a First Amendment liberal, that is.

I remember my dad telling me stories about the danger of Joe McCarthy in the 1950s -- when Sen. McCarthy would cause actors to be blacklisted, and executives to be fired, and boycotts of businesses to be organized, because he had labeled someone a "pinko" or, worse, a "liberal."

I remember the Tea Party shouters who wouldn't let their members of Congress speak about President Obama's healthcare plan, who shouted others down, prevented debate and discussion because they disagreed with the president's and liberal Democratic ideas.

I remember students at liberal universities shouting down conservative speakers with whom they disagreed -- taking over the podium and blocking controversial conservatives from speaking on campuses.

I remember seeing my friend, John Mackey, who wrote a column in the Wall Street Journal opposing President Obama's national health insurance legislation, as a thoughtful libertarian whose company, Whole Foods, pays for its employees' health insurance and is one of the most progressive companies in the nation -- and I remember liberals trying to organize a boycott of his stores because Mackey chose to exercise his First Amendment rights.

And I remember wondering at the time, how does it help the workers at Whole Foods, whom liberals are supposed to care about, by boycotting the stores because the CEO happens to express an opinion?

I worry about thought police, ideas police, people who decide they don't like your opinion and rather than making a counterargument and fighting it out in the "marketplace of ideas" -- as liberals have long believed the First Amendment is all about -- they try to get you fired, or boycott your business, or boycott those who do business with you, or those who do business with those who do business with you, etc.

A blog over at the LA Times is reporting the same thing, so while I've got the 24-Rule ticking on this, I'm giving it some credibility. If true, then Rush has just switched to a howitzer for the purposes of blowing off his feet.

And when we all get our own equivalent microphones to argue our ideas in the marketplace that will be great. In the meantime, our dollars and rights to speak up to those who pay to keep the hateful rhetoric on the air are the only "marketplace of ideas" we have to work with.

Freedom of speech does work both ways.

It's also funny how many people think freedom of speech doesn't come with any responsibilities to it, that propaganda isn't effective, and that if society tolerated all forms of hate speech we'd be better off.

It's a really obviously lunatic position, but some people manage to sucker themselves into it. It's a lot like modern libertarianism.

I think they do go to criminal court.

Misdemeanor Trial Process

A misdemeanor trial may be conducted as a "bench trial" where the judge alone will hear and decide the outcome in the case, or a jury trial, where a person's guilt or innocence is decided by a jury of 12. It is a constitutional right to be judged by a jury of one's peers, although the actual ethnic and gender make-up of the panel may not really be the same as the defendant. A jury is made up of people in a certain geographic area relative to the courthouse. The courthouse where the case is heard is in the same geographic area where the crime was committed.

A misdemeanor is still a crime and the criminal courts handle them. Civil courts are for lawsuits, divorces, etc.

You can read through this:

Sex, lies and a manila envelope
Lewd photos mailed to a local official set off a political brouhaha

Excerpts:

In early April, someone mailed envelopes to a handful of local public officials. In each was a set of five grainy pictures of two naked women kissing, fondling and having oral sex. Each envelope included a simple cover sheet consisting of the handwritten initials “M.L.” and the handwritten name “Belinda Ortiz.”

Though Ortiz is the Republican Party of Florida’s Hispanic outreach director and a perennial candidate for local political office, she wasn’t one of the recipients of the envelopes. But her contacts at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce were on the mailing list. And when Ortiz saw the pictures, she was understandably upset.

“The woman photographed is NOT me,” she says in a sworn April 9 statement to the Orlando Police Department, “as I do not wear my hair curly, do not wear acrylic nails, do not have breast implants and am not in as good of shape as the woman in the photos. For the record, I have never taken or allowed pornographic photos to be taken of me.”

and

On Aug. 4, after dropping all four counts of defamation by publication, the state attorney’s office brought four other counts of defamation – for violating state statute 836.04, “Whomever speaks of and concerning any woman, married or unmarried, falsely and maliciously imputing to her a want of chastity, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree” – and one far-reaching count of cyberstalking Ortiz between January 2007 and May 2009.

Florida statute 836.04 was enacted in 1883. The law, according to public defender Melissa Vickers, who assisted public defender Joseph Knape on this case, is not used much. In 1894, Holmes County resident Marion Burnham was convicted of defaming Lula Burnham by accusing her of having sex with her brother, Addie Hewett, prior to her marriage. An 1896 ruling by the Florida Supreme Court reversed the charges based on lack of evidence. Ten years later, the Supreme Court upheld charges against R.B. Stutts for slandering an unmarried woman; in that case, the court found that slander did not require that a defamatory insult be heard by a third person.

“When I read that statute, and I picture what the legislative intent behind it was, I would picture people in a public place chastising her, calling her something unpleasant,” says Joseph Knape. “The hardest thing is having a jury follow the law when they themselves can’t say that they probably haven’t violated the law. I’m sure that most of us have.”

I'm surprised to see the statute used so recently.

Reminds me of a (Foxworthy?) joke about climbing a water tower to defend his sister's honor.

Whatever happens, I'm pretty sure I don't want to see Rush go to jail. Way too much martyr potential there.

What do you think about Alan Dershowitz's anti-Rosenberg/anti-MM campaign?

I've said before that seeing him removed from the air is not my goal, only seeing him humbled before his listeners and made to take responsibility for his words and actions.

Don't even want him dropped from the taxpayer-supported Armed Forces Network. That should be left to the preferences of the troops.

I agree with that much. Is there something in place to actually determine what they want to listen to?

There are annual military family surveys, but the chiefs don't have to follow them. They pretty much try to keep the troops and families happy, especially in areas w/o English language broadcasting.
