Seller of ‘Re-Nig’ Bumper Sticker: The N Word Isn’t Racist

If you’re a wingnut, nothing you do is racist - not even using the N word
Wingnuts • Views: 34,117

I’ve seen this kind of weird thinking before, but it’s still a little amazing to encounter people who blithely give themselves permission to use racial slurs, and then deny there’s anything racist about it: Exclusive: Seller of Controversial Anti-Obama Sticker Says It’s Not Racist.

Paula Smith of Hinesville, Georgia has a company called Stickatude.com. And they’re selling their own version of an anti-Obama bumper sticker that reads “Don’t Re-Nig 2012.” Ms. Smith told me in a telephone conversation on Saturday afternoon that the bumper sticker has been in their inventory since June 2010, but just in the last few days it’s started selling. The price is $3. Ms. Smith insisted that the bumper sticker is not racist. I asked her about the “N” word, for which “nig” is the shortened version. “According to the dictionary [the N word] does not mean black. It means a low down, lazy, sorry, low down person. That’s what the N word means.” …

Ms. Smith — who has an affable disposition and a hearty laugh–said she thought the website was “dead” and up until recently none of her bumper stickers was selling at all. Another site, called Stumpy’s Stickers, was originally credited with selling the Obama sticker. Ms. Smith says however she doesn’t own that site and didn’t know anything about it. She said Stumpy’s Stickers could have linked to their site, but she didn’t sell them any that they could have re-sold. Where did Ms. Smith find the sticker in the first place? “We just found it on the internet, and thought it was cute. It’s been up there since he’s been president.” …

The Smiths own a well known paint ball field in Hinesville — a town near Savannah. Mrs. Smith said customers come from all over the world. Ms. Smith said she is not racist, she just wants Obama out of office. She tells me she doesn’t have a preferred replacement candidate. “And besides Obama is not even black. He’s got a mixture of race. It’s his choice of what his nationality is. I’m a mixed breed. I call myself a Heinz 57,” she says, referring to an ancestry that’s part of French, Scottish, and German. …

I asked her if she thought the “N” Word was a bad word? “No,” she said, ” because I don’t use it.”

“I don’t use it?” No — she just sells racist merchandise that uses it.

Good grief. This is a mental illness.

“No,” she said, ” because I don’t use it.”

So you don't say it, you just print merchandise with that word prominantly on it.

According to dictionary.com, the standard definition of the N word is as follows:

noun
1.
Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive .
a.
a black person.
b.
a member of any dark-skinned people.
2.
Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive . a person of any race or origin regarded as contemptible, inferior, ignorant, etc.
3.
a victim of prejudice similar to that suffered by blacks; a person who is economically, politically, or socially disenfranchised.

Yeah. Sorry Mr. bumper sticker seller guy, the N word most DEFINITELY means "black".

10 erik_t  Mon, Mar 19, 2012 1:08:21pm

At some point, dishonesty becomes less horrifying than honesty.

There's no way that anybody actually believes that 'n***' has no racial component. I reject your reality and substitute my own.

11 Kragar  Mon, Mar 19, 2012 1:09:02pm
I’m a mixed breed. I call myself a Heinz 57,” she says, referring to an ancestry that’s part of French, Scottish, and German.

“I just want someone that’s going to help the United States and not give it other countries all the time. And stop giving the immigrants the benefits that most Americans inside their own states can’t even get because they’re giving it others who don’t even live here as an American.

If you're proud of being French, Scottish, and German, while saying you're an American, but have a problem with immigrants, then you could quite possibly be an ignorant racist twit.

If what she really means by this is that he gets to choose whether to call himself black or white, because his mother was white and his father was black, the answer is, "sorry lady, not in this country."

I don't understand this kind of cognitive dissonance.

Ann Coulter said recently that the conservative movement was more prone to embracing con artists and grifters then Democrats and the Left. What she left out it that the conservative movement is full of ignorant people who are willing to believe crazy shit about almost everything. This kind of cognitive dissonance makes them easy marks. If you don't believe that this bumper sticker is racist, you will believe anything.

How about we just try to level the playing field so the average non-white and/or female has the same opportunities as I do/did.

If you look at old footage from the Civil Rights era you see how prominent fears of miscegenation (of the black man/white woman kind) factored into their opposition to equal rights and integration. Every time those people look at Obama, they see what they were most afraid off: the offspring of such a union running the country.

Tennessee GOP lawmaker charged for domestic violence

Tennessee state Rep. David Hawk (R-Greenville), who supported a bill to allow guns in bars, was arrested on Sunday and charged with domestic assault on his wife.

The lawmaker was released from Greene County jail Monday morning on $500 bond after pleading “not guilty.”

“I am innocent and did not do what was alleged against me,” he told reporters. “I did not harm my wife. … I have faith that the courts will see the truth.”

Robison: Wealthy Capitalists are the Victims of a Dangerous 'Type of Racism'

Robison: Our economy is trembling, it's quaking. And we can correct it if we will come together and understand that the enemy is not the creator of wealth, it is not the free market capitalist crowd that do go out and create jobs, and opportunity, and investment. And we have really today biased the whole population against in them in a type of racism that is not only damaging but actually potentially very dangerous. There is an animosity and a hostility that you have to go all the way back to the horrible racism that you and I stood against along with Martin Luther King, that we detested. You have to look at that and see how dangerous it is.

Land: The 1980 election was the most important election for the Soviet Union, for the people of the Soviet Union, because it meant that they were going to be free. But the most important election for the United States since 1860 is this one because out future is at stake as America.

Robison: Right, and in 1980 you could see the enemy. It was quite obvious to most people we had a very serious threat. Today the enemy is within, it lurks in a very subtle and crafty way. And if we who know the truth do not point to the truth and stand for the truth and really get involved to turn back the tide, we are going to see in 3D the horrific collapse of the Untied States of America economically.

A Republican Jewish group is demanding an apology from senior Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod after he referred to Mitt Romney’s ad campaign in Illinois as “the Mittzkrieg.”

...

The Republican Jewish Coalition condemned the comparison of Romney’s effort to the blitzkrieg as casual and inappropriate use of Nazi imagery and demanded an apology.

Axelrod is himself Jewish.

“At a time when there is so much talk about the need for civility in political discourse, it is disturbing to see President Obama’s top campaign adviser casually throw Nazi imagery around in reference to a Republican candidate for president,” the group said in a statement. “Holocaust and Nazi imagery are always inappropriate in the political arena. Axelrod should apologize for his offensive language.”

Romney campaign spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom circulated the RJC statement, saying the group “slaps @davidaxelrod for ‘Mittzkrieg comment, saying ‘Holocaust and Nazi imagery’ inappropriate.”

Here are the Axelrod tweets:

I mean is the NFL trading in "Holocaust and Nazi imagery" by continuing to call a particular football play Blitzing? Was ESPN News doing the same with their show The Blitz? Maybe I'm missing something here, but I had always thought it was just another of the many military terms that have become common in modern English, and not something people take offence at.

Does Santorum have a Tony Perkins problem?

Nearly a hundred pastors from all over Louisiana and from as far away as Texas and Colorado accepted Family Research Council President Tony Perkins' invitation to hear a personal pitch Sunday from the former Pennsylvania senator, who met with them in a private briefing before he addressed the more than 1,400 faithful who crowded into the sanctuary at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church.

"What we need to do in this country is to rebuild that culture of life and rebuild that culture of marriage and families," Santorum said, standing in a small back room as the invited pastors gathered in an informal circle wearing handwritten name tags. "No one else talks about social issues."

...

Perkins, the head of the socially conservative Family Research Council, can't officially endorse a presidential candidate, but he made his personal feelings clear. "I'll tell you this," he said, "I wouldn't invite just anybody to my church."

Ironically, in 2008 Perkins was criticized for speaking too favorably of Romney and too critically of Mike Huckabee, who was then the preferred candidate of many in the Religious Right.

We have consistently documented Perkins’ extreme record:

said Islam is “evil”;

called gay rights activists “intolerant,” “hateful,” “vile,” “spiteful” and “pawns” of Satan and said that homosexuality is “man shaking his fist in the face of God”;

wrote that the anti-bullying “It Gets Better Project” is “immoral,” “disgusting,” and promotes “perversion”;

denied that there was a correlation between anti-gay bullying and depression and suicide, saying instead that gay and lesbian teens know they are “abnormal” and “have a higher propensity to depression or suicide because of that internal conflict";

wrote that senators would have "the blood of innocent soldiers on their hands" if they vote to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell and allowed gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military;

warned, “I don’t know if the country can survive” another Obama term and that the president’s reelection would “destroy this country”';

asserted that President Obama has a “disdain for Christianity” and his supporters must “repent”;

claimed “Islamists and the homosexuals work out of the same playbook”;

attacked the Girl Scouts and a Star Wars video game for including gay members and characters, respectively;

said governments are beginning the “promotion same-sex relations” as a means of “population control”;

believes gays and lesbians have “an emptiness within them” because of their “destructive path”

With views like that, it is no wonder that Perkins has become one of Santorum’s (unofficial) cheerleaders.

Summer in March for the Midwest

The ongoing March heat wave in the Midwest is one of the most extreme heat events in U.S. history. With so many records being shattered, it is difficult to cover in detail just how widespread, long-lasting, and extreme the event is, and I offer just a few highlights:
Winner, South Dakota hit 94°F yesterday, the earliest 90°+ reading ever recorded in the Northern Plains.
International Falls, Minnesota hit 79°F yesterday, the hottest March temperature on record in the Nation's Icebox.
Houghton, Michigan, near the frigid shores of Lake Superior, hit 76°F both Saturday and Sunday. It was the hottest March temperature on record, and an astonishing 44°F above the average high for the date.
Chicago, Illinois now has a string of five consecutive days of 80°+ temperatures, and the hottest temperature on record for so early in the year (82°F on Friday, and tied again on Saturday).

Ironically, some conservatives might also come to rue such a decision. After all, if it’s unconstitutional to compel contributions towards private health insurance, then surely it’s unconstitutional to compel contributions toward private investment accounts – which happens to be the idea many conservatives still have for replacing Social Security. As Simon Lazarus, counsel for the National Senior Citizens Law Center, noted last year in Slate, two of the conservative appellate judges who rejected these lawsuits cited that very possibility in their rulings.

Rush goes nuts over Cee-Lo Green

Why isn’t the media condemning Cee Lo Green for dropping F-bombs at a fundraiser for President Barack Obama? That’s what Rush Limbaugh wanted to know on his radio show Monday.

“[Cee Lo] showed up before Obama came out and spoke at this fundraiser and dropped the F-bomb in his song while Mr. Civility is backstage, waiting to go on I guess,” Limbaugh said on his afternoon radio program. “This is getting nowhere near the attention it should get in the media. Mr. Civility, Barack Obama, is not being asked about this at all.”

Green, star of the reality TV show “The Voice,” was performing at an Obama event in Atlanta, Ga., on Friday when he decided to belt out the not-safe-for-radio version of his hit song, “F—- You,” and even gave the audience the middle finger a few times for good measure.

Ah, unintentional comedy.

This is the guy who gave the invocation at a GOP national convention. It included this piece of non-Christian bullshit.

So I take his perspective with a big grain of salt.

re: #167 Brother Holy Cruise Missile of Mild Acceptance

Just heard the 9-1-1 tapes in the Trayvon Martin case. Pretty damning to me, don't know why they haven't arrested Zimmerman.

prosecutors may not be able to charge Zimmerman because of changes made to state law in 2005. Under the old law, people could use deadly force in self-defense only if they had tried to run away or otherwise avoid the danger. The changes removed that duty to retreat and gave Floridians, as the law is written, the right "to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force," if they felt threatened. The changes also meant people could not be prosecuted in such instances.

Thus far, Sanford police have said there is no evidence to contradict Zimmerman's claims.

something tells me if the races were reversed, they'd magically find a way to arrest the shooter

something tells me, I wonder what it could be

Yep. He's going to get away with murder because of it. The same changes also prevent his family from suing over the murder as well. The only justice that will ever happen is if the feds can make a case or when he faces the final judge.

naturally, all black teenagers are by their very existence threatening to floridian white guys, so it's a fantastic law for Florida! It means you can just shoot all the blacks you like!

Florida, whee!

Zimmerman's father has said his son is Hispanic and is not racist. Zimmerman has claimed self-defense

or if somebody kills him, that would be justice

not LAWFUL, but it'd be a form of justice

That doesn't specify whether he's white or not.

Florida really is America, a rich melting pot where everyone can agree on the right to kill black guys

I think that Smith, as well as anyone else who is trying to make the claims that she is making need to watch a certain comedy routine from about 25 years ago. It's still relevant.

Ms Smith's website appears to be broken. Checking this morning and this evening (China time is EST+12) brought up a directory listing for stickatude.com. Poking deeper into the directories, I found a generic OSCommerce main page and two StickaTude catalog pages, none of which contain the Re-N*g sticker.

The political sticker page (at ./store2) has this header:

We are not PRO republican, We are not PRO democrat.(definitely not pro-Obama) We are Americans! We enjoy free speech and the right to bear arms! We do not care if you are gay or straight. We are natural smartasses who enjoy our job and our freedoms as Americans! May God be with our troops and watch over them and keep them safe.

Most of the political stickers are anti-Obama. For the Christian sticker listing, there's the wisecrack "Christian based stickas! Yep, CHRISTIAN , not muslim!"

Under ./store, there is sticker:
Hide your change.

Not sure what it means, but the background image is identical to the one on the Re-N*g sticker.

Friedman says in the article that stumpysstickers.com redirects to stickatude.com. Now visiting stumpysstickers just gets a 404 Forbidden notice from the server. The registrant of the domain has been made private, so there's no easy way to verify Ms Smith's rather disingenuous contention that she has no really no idea why stumpys is linked to her site.

Personally, I suspect that Friedman, who says "I cover Hollywood and the business of celebrity," had the wool pulled over his eyes by a country girl having a little fun with the clueless city slicker reporter from Forbes.

Charles Johnson,

What this guy is saying is kind of like saying, "I hate black people, but I'm not a racist"
